Possessor #2 Just Wants to Fangirl Chapter 155
“S-Sora… asleep?”
I heard Boram’s voice but didn’t open my eyes. Even when I sensed presence approaching, I kept making steady breathing sounds pretending to sleep.
“Ah… still hurt?”
“……”
“I-I’m bored… e-everyone’s so serious….”
“……”
“Th-the Han River view is pretty… sparkling in the s-sunlight….”
Boram lightly tugged my sleeve. She’s been trying to wake me timidly at 30-minute intervals. I don’t feel comfortable either, like ignoring a puppy begging to play.
“I-I’ll come back l-later.”
The moment I heard the door close, I snapped my eyes open and checked my DMs.
|Yeon Sora| When should I visit you, unnie?
A message I sent Researcher Cheon Ari at 7 AM. The time now is 3 PM. Already 8 hours have passed with no reply.
‘Don’t tell me she’s not keeping her promise?’
We made a deal.
I help steal the mastermind’s blood to the best of my ability. Unnie conducts various experiments with that blood, then provides information about the mastermind’s abilities and compatibility—that was the deal.
Researcher unnie is someone whose day-night cycle is reversed, so I’ve been waiting, but with no contact like this, suspicion starts creeping in.
I was debating whether to storm the medical wing directly when—
|Cheon Ari| Cadet Yeon Sora, your follow-up examination is Tuesday evening at 7 PM.
Finally a reply came. But the tone is quite different from usual. A tone drawing clear lines saying ‘we’re a doctor-patient relationship.’
Suspicion crept up again, but recalling this unnie is Ha Seonwoo’s best friend, all suspicion evaporated.
‘She’s being cautious.’
We stole the mastermind’s blood. In other words, we’re accomplices. And accomplices shouldn’t openly display their connection.
Therefore, that response should be interpreted as experimental results coming out on Tuesday.
“Waited for nothing.”
Since the fortune-teller was making a rare appearance, I’d waited hoping to fortune-tell the mastermind’s ability too….
Grrrrowl!
Maybe from skipping breakfast and lunch, my stomach was getting noisy. I lightly rubbed my hungry belly, then prepared to get up.
First, I vigorously rubbed both eyes and checked with a hand mirror that my eyes were properly bloodshot. Only after confirming they’d turned appropriately red did I pour artificial tears into my eyes.
Tears overflowed and ran down my cheeks, but I didn’t wipe them. Checking the final inspection in the mirror, not bad.
‘Details are important after all.’
When pretending to cry, tears alone aren’t enough. Eyes need to be red and slightly swollen for added realism.
This level passes.
I lay back down on the bed, then squeezed my eyes shut.
“N-nooooo!!!!”
I screamed like a shriek, then heard footsteps running this way. With my eyes still closed, I jerked my body.
“No…! M-must stop!”
“Yeon Sora! Wake up!”
“No, but… right now… n-no!”
“It’s a dream, a dream! Calm down.”
Someone gripped my shoulders firmly, and I bolted upright. But I flailed both hands in the air like hearing nothing, spouting nonsense.
‘This should be similar enough, right?’
Yeon Sora had real-time fortune-telling dreams twice. Both times I woke up crying and wasn’t in my right mind, so for consistency, I performed the same production.
After waiting briefly, Seong Hayul’s crisp voice rang out.
“First… let’s take her to the living room. When having nightmares, it’s better to clearly separate reality from dreams.”
I was transported to the living room, Seong Hayul ordered warm drinks, and Yeom Juwan conducted a basic physical examination.
The surprising part was that even Gyeon Junhwi and Ki Hyeonmin took care of me attentively.
Ki Hyeonmin brought a small blanket and draped it over my shoulders, while Gyeon Junhwi personally brewed warm tea.
“It’s ginger tea. Drinking it will help you calm down a bit.”
I wrapped both hands around the warm mug and sipped a few mouthfuls. I could feel the warmth spreading, but I can’t get too calm.
Because Yeon Sora just had a terrible nightmare.
“S-Sora… did you h-have another scary d-dream?”
“Don’t tell me it’s about what happened yesterday?”
“Was it about when you collapsed?”
While making the most frightened expression possible and trembling, questions poured from everywhere.
Instead of answering, I kept nodding, shaking my head, and trembling, when Yeom Juwan looked at me with serious eyes.
“If it’s hard, you don’t have to say it now.”
Eyes saying ‘Should I kick everyone out? Just say the word!’
Little Juwan radiated baby tiger dignity while emitting maximum cuteness, but I suppressed laughter and shook my head.
“N-no. I need to say it…. I-it feels like an important dream.”
I began the prophecy with a resolute voice.
Maybe because I’d set the atmosphere well, everyone fell silent and just watched my mouth.
“A strong force pulled me. When I came to, it was a pitch-black room. It looked like a courtroom, with about 10 white mannequins sitting in the jury box, and that was… pretty… really creepy, gave me goosebumps. My hands felt heavy, so I looked down to find handcuffs on them. There was a metal collar on my neck too, with sharp needles touching skin like….”
I methodically spilled the dream.
Everyone was concentrating on each word I spoke. No one interrupted mid-story.
“But suddenly a gavel sound rang and the ground vibrated. I looked up to see Bang Haeun’s father sitting in the judge’s seat glaring at me. Looking like he’d kill me… the pressure made it hard to breathe….”
Dream-Yeon Sora was a fragile girl standing alone in a frightening courtroom.
Terrified, when the mastermind began interrogation. He bullied her to answer questions, but Yeon Sora mustered courage to refuse. Then she was tortured.
“The handcuffs tightened. Needles inside the cuffs pierced through skin straight to bone… truly… the first time I’d felt such pain in my life… my pulse raced wildly… thought I’d die when the bracelet rang….”
I edited this part slightly. The edited sections are mainly three.
The part where I weaseled out of the truth oath, the part where I was threatened with summoning Yeom Juwan if I didn’t swear, and the part where I jogged in place.
‘Doesn’t fit the horror vibe.’
This dream’s purpose is conveying that Bang Haeun’s father is dangerous. Therefore, I removed all details that muddied the atmosphere.
Anyway, when Yeon Sora was tortured, the bracelet activated. The fragile, frightened Yeon Sora gained hope of rescue from despair.
“Won’t someone discover this signal and come rescue me…. So I dragged out time as much as possible. I answered questions but made them take as long as possible. I believed someone would definitely come rescue me.”
Editing ends here. The rest I told as fact.
The mastermind’s questions, my answers, mannequins lifting O/X boards after hearing answers, suddenly blowing wind, collapsing black walls, the bubble, even the shadow.
“The shadow seemed like it was trying to erase my memory, so when I pressed an Incapacitation bullet against it, it felt like it slipped away.”
Thus Yeon Sora’s adventure tale concluded.
“……”
“……”
“……”
Brief silence flowed.
It would be strange to readily believe such a dream at once.
They need digestion time. While waiting, I wrapped my arms around myself and trembled again.
“This is… a dream, right? It’s not something that actually happened, right?”
Forcing belief invites needless resistance. I strongly denied my own dream while looking at Seong Hayul.
As expected, Seong Hayul became a faithful collaborator.
“That dream, was it similar to other dreams you’ve had?”
Here I hesitated slightly, lips twitching.
“The dream you had about the twins. The dream about my ability… too. Were they similar to dreams you had then?”
“…I can’t explain it, but it being strangely vivid with living sensations is similar. But… it might not be. Just a nightmare.”
“……”
“……”
Ambiguous silence arrived. A vague reaction where they don’t believe it but feel uneasy dismissing it.
This level of reaction is perfect. Fortune-telling is like that anyway.
Regardless, the goal was achieved.
I’d safely conveyed the facts that Bang Haeun’s father is somehow unsettling and dangerous, and has abilities related to courtrooms and shadows.
“Do you remember how you were dragged to the black room?”
Then Gyeon Junhwi broke the silence with a question.
I wasn’t flustered since I’d anticipated this too.
“Yeah, I remember. A shadow dragged me.”
“A shadow?”
“Yeah. While Yeom Juwan and that uncle person were talking, a shadow rose from the floor and engulfed me.”
Gyeon Junhwi is trying to confirm I was summoned because of Yeom Juwan.
I’m saying it wasn’t my fault or Juwan’s fault—the mastermind targeted me from the start.
I’d debated telling Junhwi the truth privately… but our Junhwi has a tendency to remove people who don’t help from the team.
‘No need to pointlessly lower Juwan’s evaluation.’
Just this once, I decided on a white lie.
Lying to Gyeon Junhwi isn’t easy, but I know the criteria my baby uses to filter out lies.
“You’re sure the shadow rose from the floor?”
“Yeah, when I looked down, from legs to waist was pitch black.”
“Weren’t your legs hidden by the table so you couldn’t see?”
“Yeah, couldn’t see. But the parts the shadow touched felt incredibly cold. Starting from my toes, it was cold like frostbite… so I deduced the shadow rose from the floor.”
Liars confuse perspectives. They narrate from third-person perspective, not first-person.
So they make errors like describing blind spots that aren’t visible… but I managed to avoid all that.
“……”
Gyeon Junhwi finished his interrogation and closed his mouth.
He doesn’t entirely believe my words, but I did my best.
Having come this far, it’s time to move to the next step.
‘A fortune-teller doesn’t just tell the past.’
You can only be called a proper fortune-teller when you accurately predict the past like threading a needle and even point out future directions.
Now I need to deliver prophecy about the future.
“Actually, right after this I had another dream in succession. Junhwi, it’s a dream I’ve told you about before… you know, that strange altar dream.”
“…!”
Junhwi visibly flinched. The remaining team members showed curiosity.
“What dream?”
“An altar?”
“Is that also the same type of dream as this?”
I ignored all questions and looked straight only at Gyeon Junhwi.
“It’s a somewhat unsettling dream that I’ve had before. The continuation appeared.”
I’m currently requesting permission. If Gyeon Junhwi tells me not to, I’ll stop here; if he says proceed, I’ll continue.
Gyeon Junhwi wavered briefly but spoke first.
“The dream with 9 masked people?”
Permission granted.
I looked around at the remaining team members and explained the second dream.
“There were 9 masked people performing a strange ritual. It had this weird cult-like atmosphere, and those people were saying incomprehensible things like the Tower must collapse, we must stop the Tower’s Fate.”
To ordinary people, this is nonsense dreams. But Ki Hyeonmin’s lips formed the gungsuh font from surprise.
Well, I’m talking about masterminds.
“The masked people used strange powers. A bad-tempered red-haired woman flicked her finger and suddenly the ground split and lightning fell….”
Perfectly describing the mastermind’s appearance and abilities that Ki Hyeonmin had already experienced, Hyeonmin’s pupils began shaking.
‘Time to update a bit.’
Ki Hyeonmin knows masterminds exist. Junhwi and I know too, but Ki Hyeonmin doesn’t know we know.
I’m planning to make it so everyone knows.
“But suddenly wind blew and 2 masks among the 9 fell off. Those people were Bang Haeun’s father and uncle. The uncle was flipping a strange hourglass while spouting weird things about seeing the future.”
Roughly conveyed that Bang Haeun’s father and uncle are also masterminds. Plus the fact the uncle person is the prescient. And for the finish….
“Someone gave orders in an ominous voice to resolve it on the 10th floor.”
“……”
“……”
“……”
I finished the story but the reaction is ambiguous.
Yeom Juwan, Seong Hayul, and Han Boram seemed to struggle accepting the grandiose story about world destruction, Tower collapse, and 9 villains.
‘Still, this level is perfect.’
When we reach the 10th floor, they’ll be on guard. When the mastermind wielding shadows truly appears on the 10th floor, they’ll also trust the 9-villain and world-destruction theories.
Ki Hyeonmin looked confused, but… he’ll calm down and accept it soon, right? Then he and Junhwi can plan for the 10th floor together?
‘Those two working together is good!’
The reason our Junhwi suffers from overwork lately is trying to do everything alone. Investigating masterminds alone, 10th floor countermeasures alone, finding subordinates alone.
But through this dream, I’m hoping the other kids can cooperate too.
I was narrowing my eyes to read Ki Hyeonmin’s expression more closely when—
Grrrr— Grr— Grrrrowl!
My stomach rumbled noisily. Because I tried stopping it mid-way by tensing up, an even stranger sound emerged.
Yeom Juwan chuckled.
“Come to think of it Sora, you haven’t eaten anything yet, right?”
“Must be hungry. Should we go to the cafeteria?”
“No, it’s probably break time now?”
The tense atmosphere loosened. While everyone was suggesting menus, Gyeon Junhwi stood abruptly.
“I’ll buy something from the campus store. I’ll go, so Yeom Juwan, you watch Sora here.”
* * *
Before leaving, Gyeon Junhwi entered the kitchen. He took a sip from the teapot of tea he’d prepared earlier. The same tea he’d given Yeon Sora.
“I’ll be back?”
After leaving the room, Gyeon Junhwi turned his steps the moment he reached the first floor.
The exact opposite direction from the campus store.
He exited the building through the front entrance.
Whoooooosh—
A fierce wind assaulted him the moment he stepped outside. The wind was quite cold since spring hasn’t arrived yet. Gyeon Junhwi was weak to cold, but he endured the chill and wandered outside for quite a while.
Normally at this point his body would tremble slightly, but now there was no trembling at all.
‘The effect works.’
Inside the tea Gyeon Junhwi gave Yeon Sora, he’d mixed some tremor-prevention potion. A potion students mainly use before interviews—it prevents movements caused by unconscious fear or nervousness.
The potion works. But Yeon Sora kept trembling.
Meaning Yeon Sora’s trembling was entirely acting.
“As expected, she lied.”
Yeon Sora suddenly acted out headaches when questions about Yeom Juwan came up.
She bought time to prepare lies all night, and just now spilled that story.
That bothered him.
Gyeon Junhwi had a reason for persistently questioning Yeom Juwan’s guilt. Yeom Juwan was bait from the start.
Yeon Sora was dragged there instead of that bait, and now she’s lying.
Gyeon Junhwi unconsciously fidgeted with his lips.
“Don’t tell me… she caught on?”
