“Look this way, please.”

When the prescient snapped his fingers and brought up a hologram window, Astaroth’s eyes turned cold.

‘Here we go again.’

Every time the prescient experienced failure, he pulled out a new metaphor to prove his worth.

As failures accumulated, the metaphors piled up too, and now it had reached the point where remembering them all was difficult.

“Suppose there’s a ship sailing the sea.”

Today, the screen displayed a wooden sailing ship from the Age of Exploration cutting through the waves and advancing forward.

Astaroth wore an openly unenthusiastic expression, but the prescient stubbornly continued.

“I can read this ship’s destination and route with my prescience. I can know in advance whether there’s a war zone along the way or areas where pirates appear. The results of a collision are uncertain, but knowing both sides’ combat power, I can predict the outcome with fairly high probability. However!”

Grrrrrumble!

Suddenly thunder and lightning struck the screen.

Merciless driving rain and wind. A violently rocking hull. Sailors desperately clinging to the deck with their lives on the line.

Amid the Hollywood-level action unfolding, the prescient’s eyes glittered as he shouted.

“Yeon Sora is a typhoon!”

His speech quickened.

“Destination? War? Pirates? The typhoon doesn’t give a damn about any of that! It just rages however it pleases! This ship’s fate can no longer be divined! It might reach its destination faster with the wind’s help, might suddenly end up at the North Pole, or might be shipwrecked.”

This is… an analogy that hits home in one shot.

‘He’s improved.’

Astaroth briefly admired this, but soon after propped his chin on his hand and fell into thought.

‘If only he were this devoted to his actual work.’

What he needed wasn’t a literary boy.

After waiting for the prescient’s excitement to settle, Astaroth coldly stated his position.

“According to this theory, you’ll continue to be useless going forward. You’re saying you still can’t see the future.”

“That’s correct. The moment Yeon Sora gets involved, the future becomes meaningless.”

The prescient readily admitted the facts. Going one step further, he even wore a confident smile, which meant there was something more.

After a brief wait, the prescient curled his lips upward and continued.

“I can’t know this ship’s destination or route. But… I can issue a typhoon warning.”

“……!”

“The moment Yeon Sora interferes with your plan! I can give you a warning.”

‘That’s… not bad.’

Prevention wasn’t possible, but real-time response was.

It meant that no matter what sabotage Yeon Sora attempted, they could catch it in real-time and nullify it.

After pondering a bit longer, Astaroth spoke again.

“There’s no way you’re helping me for free. What do you want in exchange for cooperation?”

“How about we test it and then decide the price?”

Rather than selling his ability cheap when severely undervalued, he intended to prove its effectiveness through a test run and then charge a high price.

“You seem quite confident.”

“You’ve planted a shadow, haven’t you?”

“Do you need to ask?”

Astaroth could use others’ bodies like puppets through shadows. It was the same ability he’d used to induce his own daughter Bang Haeun’s suicide.

“Connect to it. I’ll send you a signal.”

The prescient had already pulled out his pendant and closed his eyes. It was confidence and composure he hadn’t shown in a long time.

‘Either way, there’s no loss on this side.’

They could test it in advance and discard the prescient if they didn’t like it. Having decided thus, Astaroth also closed his eyes.

Bzzzzzz—

His consciousness melted and pooled in the shadow beneath his feet. Concentrating his energy once more through that shadow as a medium, whoooosh— a new space revealed itself.

A giant spider web. Hundreds of insects bound in the web. These were all souls Astaroth had infected and potential puppets.

‘Found it.’

Having found the puppet he needed, Astaroth immediately began his sprint.

Zzzzzzzt—

The insect that sensed danger struggled desperately. It was a trace of the original body’s mind resisting. But crushing this level of resistance was nothing.

Thunk!

He drove his sharpened fangs deep into the insect’s neck and it quickly fell silent. When Astaroth opened his eyes again, he saw the waiting room scenery.

‘Made it.’

Astaroth was currently occupying the body of one of the security guards. Right in front, numerous cadets were murmuring noisily.

Just as he was about to search for Yeon Sora,

“Hey, doesn’t the atmosphere feel kinda strange?”

A cheerful voice rang out from behind.

Turning around, an arrogant-smiling beauty with pink hair was scattering contempt in all directions.

“This is totally a ‘bean’ sprout field! Can’t breathe.”

That moment.

[Now! You must find Yeon Sora right away! Right this moment, she’s interfering with your operation!]

The typhoon warning sounded in his ear.

* * *

‘Why’s it so ominous?’

The 10th floor waiting room is also full of people in SWAT team outfits. Nominally they’re security personnel assigned to protect us, but in reality they’re the mastermind’s subordinates.

“Hey, doesn’t the atmosphere feel kinda strange?”

“What?”

It feels like playing the hostage role in a hostage situation….

It feels like one of those black helmets could drag me in front of a camera at any moment. ‘If you don’t meet our demands, we’ll kill one per hour! Snip!’ While I’m having such thoughts, beep!

The alarm went off.

Hastily checking the radar, a red dot was lodged inside the smallest circle. It meant there was pure mana within a 10-meter radius.

‘It can’t be treasure….’

No matter how much of a luck stat believer I am, I’m not deluded enough to spin the happiness circuit thinking a Lost Treasure would walk up to me on its own feet.

Besides treasure, what other existence is made of pure mana?

Only the mastermind.

‘I need to tell the kids!’

But right now the mastermind is eavesdropping within 10 meters. I need to convey this information in a way that won’t get caught. Fortunately, this wasn’t difficult.

“This is totally a ‘bean’ sprout field! Can’t breathe.”

I’ve already told the kids about my ‘hot-bean’ function! When the mastermind enters within 100 meters, ‘hot’! Within 10 meters, ‘bean’!

Looking at my team members’ eyes, they all understood the message. Then from now on I need to enter detailed explanation mode.

“I feel kinda weird! Earlier there wasn’t a single ‘click’ vein, but now there’s one? My heart’s suddenly beating ‘snap-snap’ too!”

To others it’s nonsense, but deep meaning is embedded within.

‘There was nothing on the 100-meter radar but suddenly the mastermind appeared at 10 meters! They suddenly popped up, see? Isn’t that strange?’

Junhwi, Hyeonmin, Juwan… no, all the team members skillfully separated the wheat from the chaff in my nonsense.

Junhwi wore a complicated expression briefly, but soon opened his mouth with a warm smile.

“Anyone who needs the bathroom, go now. Once we’re inside, there won’t be a chance for a while.”

Meaning Seong Hayul and I should hurry and transform.

‘Can I really go? What about the mastermind’s blip-blip?’

Numerous questions swam dizzily in my head, but I captured them all and locked them in a box, then covered it with a lid.

This is homework for Junhwi to solve. I just need to do as I’m told and transform.

“Let’s go!”

Linking arms with Boram and Seong Hayul to move, Juwan and Hyeonmin followed from behind.

Originally we planned to secretly go just us girls, but before I knew it the operation changed to my babies providing escort.

‘We’ve gotten farther away by now, right?’

Sneaking a glance at the radar, the red dot was still within the 10-meter radius. We just crossed the great hall but the distance didn’t increase at all.

‘They’re tailing us!’

I absolutely must not look back. If I do, the other side will also realize I noticed. But even knowing this, don’t you want to look when you know?

Just as I couldn’t resist that temptation and was about to turn my head, Hyeonmin’s voice stopped me.

“Look ahead.”

“Okay!”

Just like before, I slapped a lid over the impulse and stored it in a corner of my brain.

‘Right, tailing isn’t my specialty!’

This is Hyeonmin’s homework. I just need to hurry and transform. I need to quickly swap fake-Hayul for Yeon Sora.

“We’ll be here, go ahead.”

Juwan and Hyeonmin stood at the narrow corridor entrance, volunteering as sentries.

Meanwhile, Boram, Seong Hayul, and I rushed into the women’s bathroom, locked the door, and set up various security items. After assigning Boram to guard the entrance,

“Hurry! You have to drink it all at once!”

Seong Hayul and I entered the furthest stall and downed the Changeling Potion in one shot. After forcing the horrible grass-flavored potion down my throat, I checked the radar again….

“It got farther!”

The red dot was in the third circle. The mastermind had retreated to within a 30-meter radius. We caught our breath, but that didn’t make the anxiety disappear.

“This potion takes exactly 15 minutes, right? Plus or minus how many minutes?”

No answer came. Seong Hayul had her eyes closed and was making a ‘shush’ gesture with her finger against her lips.

‘Ah, right. I can’t talk?’

Talking during transformation could make the muscles twist strangely. I also squeezed my eyes shut and counted numbers in my head… but even after counting to 150, I didn’t feel any particular change in my body.

‘Should I go out and check a mirror?’

Just as I was thinking such things and cracking my eyes open,

“!!!!!!!!”

I almost screamed. Because the face of Seong Hayul standing before me was changing.

The problem was that the process was quite grotesque. Her skin texture cracked and each piece writhed separately—it looked exactly like a maggot-infested corpse.

I hastily lowered my eye shutters.

‘This isn’t something you should watch in 3D!!!!’

It’s different from seeing it in movies. This isn’t a situation beyond a safe screen. But shortly after, my skin also started itching.

‘There are no maggots… maggots don’t exist in this world… there’s no such thing as existence in this world… emptiness of mind!’

While diligently hypnotizing myself,

Beep! Beep! … Beep!

The mastermind diligently kept watch.

This meant they were going in and out of the 10-meter radius.

‘You rotten mackerel bastard! Don’t come!’

If the mastermind bursts through the door right now? They’ll discover me and Seong Hayul with maggots overflowing on our faces. Then game over.

I’ll be killed, Hyeonmin will revive me with the pill, and I’ll begin my third life as zombie Sora…

‘I don’t want that yet! Please! Stop them! Junhwi! Juwan! Hyeonmin!’

Did my prayers work?

For whatever reason, fortunately the mastermind didn’t barge in.

“T-time’s up! C-come out!”

Boram announced the transformation was complete.

Checking the radar, the mastermind was inside the fifth circle. Distance from me: 50 meters.

But they could jump in at any moment, so let’s hurry!

‘First I need to confirm whether the transformation succeeded!’

I kicked the door open and went outside to look in the mirror.

Blonde hair, sturdy amber eyes, pretty features.

A perfect fake-Hayul greeted me.

“Whoa! It’s identical!”

When I felt my face, the fake-Hayul in the mirror moved her hands with the same motion. Even to my eyes that see Seong Hayul every day, I can’t tell the difference—it’s a perfect transformation. At this level, fooling the mastermind is nothing!

‘As expected of a made-by-Junhwi potion!’

If the fake-Hayul quality is this good, fake-Sora should be worth looking forward to too!

But she’s uncharacteristically hesitating.

“Hey! Seong Hayul! Why aren’t you coming out?”

“H-hurry out! I-I want to see!”

“I’m coming….”

At our urging, Seong Hayul finally walked out late.

And the moment I saw her,

“……!”

“……!”

My mouth wouldn’t close.
