Zone 2 is the ‘Cursed Village.’

A village where approximately 600 households once lived, but the oasis dried up due to unknown circumstances and all residents died within a week.

At first, the villagers buried each person separately in carefully made graves, but after three days the bodies became too numerous, so they conducted mass burials.

Eventually, people collapsed in the streets, transforming the entire village into a field of corpses.

The optimal environment for a necromancer.

Sure enough, attacks commenced the moment we entered the village.

“Aaaaah!”

A rotting arm burst from the ground and grabbed my left ankle.

The instant I screamed, Ki Hyeonmin severed the arm, but the one-armed mummy is desperately clawing its way out of the earth with its remaining hand.

Ki Hyeonmin raised his sword high like an executioner.

“Wait! Hold on!”

Gyeon Junhwi stepped in front of the mummy, blocking the sword’s trajectory, and Ki Hyeonmin’s eyes narrowed.

Whoooosh—

The sword descended anyway.

The blade grazed subtly past Gyeon Junhwi’s side.

I think a few strands of my baby’s hair got sliced off… that was clearly a warning.

Right now, Ki Hyeonmin can’t kill anyone except villains.

‘Wait, is he still suspicious of Junhwi?’

This is probably a misunderstanding.

From Ki Hyeonmin’s perspective, it could look like Junhwi took the mummy’s side as it attacked Yeon Sora.

This level of misunderstanding is something I can interpret and clear up.

“Junhwi, don’t tell me… you’re going to experiment like earlier?”

Gyeon Junhwi looked at me with a smooth smile.

A smile with vitamin mode deactivated.

Not the refreshing, pure smile of a young boy, but a high-stimulation smile deliberately designed to charm every human being.

A sneak attack at this timing…!

“Right, I think it’s best to verify bugs from the start.”

While I clutched my heart, Gyeon Junhwi continued his explanation. In summary, he was asking us to capture a few mummies alive.

Securing mummies wasn’t particularly difficult.

When Yeom Juwan or Ki Hyeonmin walked around, none appeared, but once I joined them for a stroll, twenty lined up and approached from the distance.

Honestly, at this point… isn’t it too obvious?

When I glared at the twins, they responded by twitching their lips upward.

This is oddly deflating.

‘In the novel they were ice-cold and cunning, but why are they so emotional?’

When I meet the mastermind someday, I’ll have to interrogate them about how they educated their subordinates.

Disappointing, truly.

“Shall we begin then?”

Gyeon Junhwi conducted various experiments on the mummies, just like earlier.

Sprinkled holy water, tried silver bullets, attempted decapitation, incineration, had Han Boram cast curses…

The conclusions drawn were twofold.

“One, over half the extermination methods in textbooks don’t work. To kill them, you need flame magic, or you have to dismember their limbs. Boram’s ability doesn’t work either.”

“These aren’t normal mummies?”

“It’s a bug.”

“Nothing but bugs.”

“How is there not a single zone without bugs?”

Having experienced bizarre phenomena since earlier, the team members readily accepted bugs. The twins also seem to be skipping the tedious procedure of manipulating bugs.

Am I the only one who finds this strange?

“Two, this is more important…”

When Gyeon Junhwi extended his hand over the corpse, a flash of light erupted, but no items materialized.

“These mummies have no manastones.”

Manastones are the power source that moves monsters.

Their complete absence is actually quite chilling.

In other words…

It’s like prying open a noisy doll’s battery compartment only to find it completely empty—that kind of horrifying moment!

…And this is being casually accepted.

“It’s a bug.”

“…Another bug?”

“Ah, is this different from earlier?”

“It’s the same thing.”

“No, the Deathworm moved after the manastone was removed, and this moves without one.”

“Both are equally absent from records.”

“According to records, the only bug on the 1st floor is unverifiable experience points.”

“Well, we’ve experienced it more than once or twice. A bug is a bug.”

“Right, it’s a bug.”

Now I’m starting to worry about my babies’ amazing adaptability.

Kids, did you know that new bugs are actually rare?

I know it’s because of the necromancer, but you’re all accepting this as common sense right now…

“If there are no manastones, there’s a high probability other important things are also missing. Yeom Juwan, Ki Hyeonmin.”

This time, Gyeon Junhwi pulled a small measuring device from his pocket.

On the 1st floor, you need a device to view experience logs—he was instructing them to check the experience gained from killing the mummies.

“Nothing.”

“Me neither.”

Gyeon Junhwi nodded and provided the final summary.

“It’s a bug where you can’t obtain manastones or gain experience from killing monsters… how about we just pass through quickly?”

“Agreed!”

“There’s really no need to fight.”

“I agree too!”

This requires a reaction cut!

I hurriedly rotated the Drone Eye to capture the TAs’ faces in full frame.

As expected, their expressions are terrible.

“I don’t recommend skipping an entire zone. There are reasons for passing through various zones before reaching the boss room.”

“We can’t obtain any of those benefits because of the bug.”

“You shouldn’t make that judgment after killing just a few at the entrance.”

“All twenty out of the first twenty mummies we encountered showed the same symptoms.”

“……”

“Moreover, this village is entirely a field of corpses. If hundreds or thousands of abnormal mummies attack with sheer numbers, it will be difficult to handle. Taking on such a huge risk… yet we can’t obtain manastones or experience. If we’re making normal situational judgments, isn’t avoiding this the correct choice? We even confirmed a 100% probability at the entrance?”

This is… getting bitten in the foot by your trusted bug!

The TAs dug a perfect trap and waited thinking ‘We can just use the bug excuse,’ but Gyeon Junhwi is reversing it by using the bug excuse to refuse to fall into that trap!

What’s more, the cause of the villains’ failure is their own greed.

Why would you send 100% suspicious mummies?

If you’d mixed in a few normal monsters, the justification would have been on your side!

‘My Junhwi, this is why I love you!!!!!’

Unfortunately, he’s so pretty that nobody believes me, but… the decisive reason Gyeon Junhwi is my bias isn’t his face.

He’s too good at screwing people over with a smile!!!! I’m also crazy about this kind of thing!!!

Left alone, he goes a bit too far and becomes extremely polarizing, but that’s when Ki Hyeonmin steps in to stop him.

Rather than stopping him… it’s more accurate to say that because Ki Hyeonmin is an absolute good regressor who needs to be utilized, it’s impossible to cross the line even if you wanted to.

If Ki Hyeonmin were alone, no matter how incredible his physical abilities, he’d be all sweet potatoes—but thanks to Gyeon Junhwi, problems get resolved refreshingly! Conversely, when Gyeon Junhwi crosses the line, Ki Hyeonmin delivers a conscience attack!

This relationship where they complement each other’s weaknesses and maximize each other’s strengths! How wonderful is that!?

“Then I’ll try mapping out a route. These two zones are obviously graveyards, so we’ll avoid them, this area is good for mass burials so we’ll avoid it… the first place bodies would be transported is the clinic so we’ll avoid that too… the town hall is dangerous… we should rest around here.”

Gyeon Junhwi began swiftly marking a safe route on the map.

But Ki Hyeonmin, seeing that route, stopped dead in his tracks.

The temple Gyeon Junhwi marked happens to be the zone with the hidden piece.

Even in the midst of this, my baby is methodically collecting hidden pieces—I love it!

…No, now it’s time for me to work.

‘What’s different?’

I pulled my concentration to full capacity and began nano observation.

I need to find the decisive clue on Ki Hyeonmin’s face.

Not just surprise, but the hint of ‘What’s up with this guy?’

I discovered that clue surprisingly quickly.

‘The lips are different!’

Ki Hyeonmin’s upper and lower lips meet at a boundary line that’s remarkably neat.

I once marveled at how even my baby’s lips are upright—but right now, both ends of that neat line are slightly thicker.

In other words… the usually clear gothic font ‘—’ lip line has become old-style font ‘—’!

From now on, I can understand my baby’s heart by observing this!

“Well then, shall we get going?”

Gyeon Junhwi announced our departure with another smooth smile.

By the way, that high-stimulation smile also has a hidden meaning.

Earlier I had to behave obediently, but now I can reveal my true nature!

‘Only I can know this!’

I’m oddly proud of discovering a new talent.

I once heard that becoming an expert requires 10,000 hours of effort. But the time I spent in my previous life analyzing and obsessing over every tiny gesture, movement, and glance easily exceeds 30,000 hours.

Turns out that was nano observation training!

It wasn’t wasted time!

As expected, I was destined to possess into this place!

* * *

Thanks to Gyeon Junhwi mapping out the safest possible route, the start was smooth.

Whoooosh! Bang! Bang!

When Yeom Juwan struck the ground with his flame whip, mummies hiding in the sand crawled out. Once they all emerged, he wrapped them again with the whip—whoosh—and they turned to ash and disappeared.

We just walk the secured path.

The twins’ necromancy requires corpses that are already dead, and since Gyeon Junhwi roughly grasped the corpse locations, we’re currently walking only the paths with the fewest monster appearances.

We’re not even going near areas where mass attacks are possible.

But the villains didn’t just sit idle either.

“They’re really starting to multiply?”

“Right, it’s like they’re deliberately targeting us.”

“Are mummies deliberately targeting us?”

“It’s a bug.”

“It’s a bug.”

“Another bug?”

Kids, try being a bit more suspicious….

Desert mummies only react to prey within a 1-meter radius, you know?

Right now the TAs are pulling corpses from mass burial sites and dispatching them here.

Because we’re accepting bugs so naturally, they’re also boldly pushing forward.

The problem is… Han Boram’s ability doesn’t work on these mummies.

Since they’re both curse-type, we’re speculating that it’s because my baby’s level is still low.

“Will Juwan be okay?”

“I-I wish I could fight too….”

“Against these numbers, there’s no answer, this is a bit…”

“This bug has no conscience.”

The combat personnel are only Yeom Juwan and Ki Hyeonmin.

But Ki Hyeonmin is guarding the sacrifice and won’t leave our side.

This situation places the burden entirely on Yeom Juwan, who’s securing our front.

Fwoooosh!

Before I knew it, the black flame whip had turned red.

The length also shortened, and since it only sets the mummies on fire when it touches them, the whipping has to be more violent.

Eventually, Gyeon Junhwi pointed to a house ahead.

“Let’s go inside there and rest for a moment.”

“Why?”

“See that palm decoration with an eye carved on it? It’s a charm to ward off evil spirits. It should work as a resting place.”

I wondered if that could really stop mummies, but the mummies truly didn’t enter the house.

They just surrounded it in layers, forming an encirclement.

“Huff, huff….”

Our Juwan is drenched in sweat with tremors in his hands.

He worked hard in the desert earlier, so his mana must be depleted too….

I pulled out a potion, uncorked it, and handed it to Juwan.

“Juwan, drink this. Mana potion.”

“Isn’t this expensive?”

“It’s fine, I have lots of spares.”

I procured a whopping 32 bottles through upper-year part-timers. But when Yeom Juwan drank it, he tilted his head.

“Only 10 mana?”

“Not enough?”

“Ah, no. I should be able to last 30 minutes.”

As expected, Juwan’s mana capacity is much larger than mine.

Seeing how he’s continuously used skills from earlier until now and only just hit energy depletion, his fuel efficiency is good too.

‘This is kind of enviable.’

For reference, Yeon Sora’s body showed zero increase in mana capacity even with training.

I’ve already given up on this body.

Thanks to mastering the aesthetics of giving up, that wasn’t difficult either.

“They keep multiplying?”

“Eliminating those will be pretty tough….”

“Ki Hyeonmin, how about you go out and clear them once?”

“I also agree with that.”

There are a rather unconscionable number of mummies outside.

Wouldn’t Ki Hyeonmin be fine? Seong Hayul suggested this, and even Gyeon Junhwi supported it, but Ki Hyeonmin’s gaze was fixed on the TA.

“I refuse.”

Protecting the sacrifice comes first.

Then that means repeating the same thing after Yeom Juwan recovers….

‘That’s too unacceptable.’

No experience or manastones, just labor work.

I can’t assign such a grueling position to my baby.

What should I do—I was contemplating when…

“Yeon Sora, you’re not falling over in here.”

One of the twins spat at me in a sharp tone.

“The ground is solid.”

“Then now you can engage in combat-class activities, can’t you?”

“…I suppose?”

Obviously plotting for me to go out and become a sacrifice, but…

It was unexpectedly helpful advice.

Earlier I had lots to do and was focused just on walking so observation was my default mode, but now it’s different.

Gyeon Junhwi also deactivated vitamin mode.

He even asked Ki Hyeonmin to go out and clear things.

Right now is the signal that it’s okay to act up a bit.

In other words…

It’s okay for Yeon Sora to step up now?
