Empress’ Game: Make-up Master Chapter 22 - Shamelessly Acting Cute

Author: Piki

Wu Hantian watched Xin Zhi leave and cursed angrily, “That scoundrel! He truly is… truly is…”

Wu Liuyun had talked away the trouble and earned merit. She sat back down gracefully and did not forget to glare at Wu Sheyue. It was all this fool’s fault for dragging me in.

Even after being glared at, Wu Sheyue continued to hold back a smile. If there’s going to be trouble, then everyone can share it. I won’t leave out a single person.

The Old Madam rubbed her temples. “Enough! This commotion has given me a headache. The emperor may not necessarily support the Eighth Prince. Who does not know what kind of person he is? Still, you must make some preparations. He is, after all, a prince.”

Wu Hantian took a deep breath. “Your son understands.”

The Old Madam turned her gaze to Wu Sheyue. “Yue’er—”

“Yes, Grandmother.” Wu Sheyue sensed they were preparing to deal with her, so she quickly widened her eyes and blinked at the Old Madam. In my view, this old lady is a decent backer. For now, I should lean on her for a while. The Third Miss’s face is truly excellent; it will definitely be useful for acting cute.

The Old Madam looked at Wu Sheyue gazing at her with bright, delighted eyes, and the words she had been about to say stuck in her throat. This child… such a beautiful appearance and so charmingly sweet. As long as there are no other problems, she will certainly be useful. So the Old Madam softened her gaze and said insincerely, “What happened today cannot be blamed entirely on you, but you still need to reflect on yourself.”

“Yes, Yue’er understands.” Wu Sheyue’s eyes held a trace of grievance. “It’s just that when Yue’er woke up and opened her eyes, she remembered that her concubine mother was gone… and she did not know who killed her. Yue’er was truly afraid. Grandmother, please don’t let Yue’er leave with the Eighth Prince…”

“Hmph.” Wu Lixiang, who had been wronged on the other side, exhaled heavily through her nose. She felt that Wu Sheyue’s current behavior looked even more disgusting than Wu Liuyun’s. She turned to look at Wu Liuyun, only to see that Wu Liuyun—usually calm as ice—was actually showing a look of… irritation?

The Old Madam’s expression darkened a little. It seems this third granddaughter of mine does not know the old matters anymore. That will save trouble. The Old Madam turned to Wu Hantian. “Sigh, the child’s mind has only just cleared. Chancellor, what do you think…”

Wu Hantian had nowhere to vent his anger, so he waved his hand casually. “Let us first see what else the Eighth Prince intends to do. I will go to the palace first, to avoid…” He left angrily before finishing.

The First Madam looked at Wu Sheyue’s face and forced herself not to follow Wu Hantian out.

The Old Madam patted Wu Sheyue’s hand. “It is good that you have recovered. Let this matter stand for now. Have your mother choose a few clever maids to send over. You have only one person in your courtyard now, correct?”

The First Madam quickly cut in. “Yes. Yue’er’s emotions were unstable before, so having too many people around was unsuitable.”

Unsuitable? So they let one fool and one maid fend for themselves? Wu Sheyue stared at her, but the First Madam did not look at her.

The Old Madam did not pursue the matter either. She simply pointed meaningfully at Wu Sheyue’s head. “Send more people there in the future and take good care of her. Also have the house physician examine Yue’er’s…”

Everyone in the room could tell the Old Madam wanted to know whether Wu Sheyue would go mad again.

The First Madam smiled and nodded. “Your daughter-in-law understands.”

The Old Madam sighed. “Good. As long as you understand. Do not delay her marriage in a few years. As for Yin, bury her properly. From now on, Yue’er will be under your instruction as well. Teach her proper etiquette.”

The First Madam nodded repeatedly.

A wave of extreme nausea surged up from Wu Sheyue’s stomach. It was more disgusting than watching Wu Jinghua vomit in the mourning hall. What is wrong with this old woman? Is this body not her granddaughter? She looks as though she does not care at all about the situation I was in before.

Wu Sheyue took a deep breath and told herself: Maybe… maybe this is just the old preference for sons over daughters. Ancient people are all like this. It should be normal.

The Old Madam narrowed her eyes and asked Wu Sheyue, “How is your courtyard? Shall we move you somewhere larger?”

“No, no need. Yue’er likes it there very much. It only needs a little tidying.” Wu Sheyue hurriedly refused. What a joke. I don’t believe Yin Qiuming didn’t hide other good things.

“Mm.” The Old Madam seemed tired and waved her hand. “Very well. All of you may leave. You have watched quite a show here. It is time to disperse.”

Madam Liu had wanted to say a few flattering words, but seeing Wu Lixiang’s unconvinced expression, she was the first to pull her daughter away and take her leave.

Wu Sheyue copied Wu Lixiang’s bow. As she was about to leave, she heard the Old Madam say, “Qingxue, stay and sit with me for a while.”

Wu Sheyue turned back for a glance. The First Madam was nodding in agreement. Wu Liuyun, meanwhile, walked out on her own.

And so Wu Sheyue and Wu Liuyun walked one after the other along the path in the courtyard. Wu Sheyue did not understand ancient rules very well and did not know how to face this so-called eldest sister, so she pretended not to know and strode forward briskly.

But Wu Liuyun did not intend to let it end there. She called from behind, “Stop.”

Wu Sheyue stopped and turned back to look at her. “What now?”
