Wedding Ending Chapter 8
It was an accident where a car turning right at an intersection suddenly veered off the road and crashed into a building. No casualties occurred outside, but it could hardly be called a relief. This was because the people riding inside were rushed to the hospital, receiving heavy media coverage.

Articles speculating about the two ran rampant all day long. Kang Jion felt relieved after receiving news through Secretary Ha that Kang Seunghyun had woken up. Because there were so many urgent matters to handle as CEO, he couldn’t go straight to the hospital. Then, he received a report from Secretary Ha that Director Im was urgently requesting a visit. Kang Jion was finally making time to head to the hospital only after the sun had set.
A crowd of reporters gathered in front of Aram Hospital. Arriving in a black sedan, Secretary Ha stepped out. As he opened the back door, revealing Kang Jion dressed in a bright suit, flashes erupted from all directions. People rushed forward all at once.
“CEO Kang, just one word please!”
“What is Executive Director Kang Seunghyun’s current condition?”
“Is it true that Vice President Min is unconscious?”
“Please say something! Are they both even alive?”
Security guards coming out of the hospital cleared a path. Walking ahead, Secretary Ha pushed aside the reaching microphones. Kang Jion strode through them. Boarding the elevator to escape the surging crowd, Secretary Ha let out a long breath and pressed the button.
“The articles will be taken down soon. We are continuously requesting corrective reports.”
Kang Jion lightly brushed off his clothes. Meanwhile, the elevator doors opened as it reached the upper floor. Standing there with an anxious face, Director Im approached hurriedly.
“I have been waiting for you, CEO.”
“How is Seunghyun’s condition? I heard he regained consciousness. Where is he right now? I’d like to see him right away.”
“Well, you see… the Executive Director is currently….”
Director Im expressed difficulty, then waved his hands toward the doctors standing nearby.
“You all can go back to your work now. CEO Kang, could you step this way for a moment?”
The place Director Im was heading to—his very tone changing compared to when he dealt with the others—was not the hospital room.
“Have Secretary Ha wait here as well.”
Kang Jion looked at Director Im and then turned his head back. Secretary Ha discreetly stood by the door as if waiting. Director Im was someone who had assisted the family for a long time. In accordance with Chairman Kang’s orders, the safety and well-being of the Kang family was top priority.
Entering an examination room equipped with reading devices, he chased out the people sitting inside as well. Director Im showed a video where the brain enlarged and shrank. After watching, Kang Jion shifted his gaze, asking with his eyes for the point of what he wanted to say. Director Im opened his mouth.
“I won’t beat around the bush. Executive Director Kang remembers absolutely nothing right now.”
“You mean he forgot that the accident happened….”
“No, not just that, everything! He forgot it clean out. He doesn’t know who I am, doesn’t recognize his own son’s face, and he won’t be able to recognize you either, CEO.”
Kang Jion’s mouth tightened. However, he calmly maintained his usual tone of voice.
“Where is he right now? I’ll see him myself. Oh, and how is Jaeyoon? Is he hurt anywhere?”
Director Im nodded.
“Yes. Without a single scratch, he is perfectly fine.”
“Where are they both right now?”
As Kang Jion was about to turn around, Director Im held him back.
“There is… one more thing… I have to tell you….”
Director Im’s face bore a deep gray tint. He recalled the conversation he had exchanged with Kang Seunghyun during the day. Just by that alone, his face turned into a look as if he had tasted bile.
―Executive Director Kang, do you recognize me?
Kang Seunghyun, who had just regained consciousness, murmured. However, because he was wearing an oxygen respirator, only a wheezing breath leaked out. Director Im quickly removed the respirator and brought his ear close.
―Pardon? What did you say….
―Get your face out of my way.
That wasn’t all. When Director Im entered the hospital room after interpreting the brain scans, Kang Seunghyun was sitting up, leaning against the top of the bed. He was in the middle of staring at the thick blanket of the bed placed side-by-side with his.
―Are you awake, Executive Director?
Director Im had brought in only his son, Im Dongjin, to prepare for emergencies. He asked, as if blocking Kang Seunghyun’s field of vision.
―Who am I?
―Do I need to know?
Overwhelmed by his aura, Director Im faltered. His mood twisted, Kang Seunghyun stared at him with raw eyes.
―I don’t know. Don’t want to know either.
Director Im could not back down. Serving Chairman Kang, he absolutely had to grasp the truth of the matter.
―I will ask you once more. Who am I?
―….
―Who did you say I am?
―….
―Do you not recognize this face either?
Director Im anxiously pointed at the face of Im Dongjin, whom he had fathered as a spitting image of himself. However, there was no answer coming back. Kang Seunghyun locked his mouth shut as if he found it too tedious to deal with him any further.
💍
A delicious aroma softly spread inside the quiet hospital room. Min Jaeyoon, who was sitting across on the sofa eating a lunchbox that Im Dongjin had specially brought over, glanced ahead.
Inside the VIP hospital room, there was a sofa, a table, a refrigerator, and even a private shower room. Not to mention a TV, he could even see people walking back and forth in front via the active CCTV.
Kang Seunghyun, his head wrapped in bandages, moved his chopsticks a couple of times and then stopped his hand. It seemed the food didn’t suit his taste. Though Im Dongjin had bought it from outside knowing the hospital food would be tasteless, as expected, even this could not satisfy his picky palate.
“You only eat organic.”
Min Jaeyoon said, maneuvering his chopsticks. Kang Seunghyun’s gaze pinned down precisely. Min Jaeyoon shifted his eyes and looked at his lunchbox. It was the same menu. He scanned the thistle rice, seaweed soup, beef bulgogi, grilled ribs, royal glass noodles, pickled perilla leaves, and citron salad. Kang Seunghyun did not eat food with strong fragrances.
Even if it were Im Dongjin, who knew Kang Seunghyun better than anyone else, it was difficult to know his peculiarly fastidious eating habits. Because Kang Seunghyun never showed a look of dislike or a look of liking in front of others. He simply kept his distance.
“You know a lot about me.”
Showing curiosity, Kang Seunghyun tossed the bothersome chopsticks forward. At the same time, he leaned his back against the sofa, acting arrogant.
“How old am I?”
“Twenty-nine. You’ll be thirty next year.”
“How old are you then?”
Min Jaeyoon scooped up and ate the seaweed soup placed before him.
“I asked how old you are? What’s your name?”
Kang Seunghyun urged, unable to wait even a bit. Min Jaeyoon exhaled a deep, hot breath rising from below his abdomen. Somehow, he felt like he could understand Director Im’s feelings from earlier.
“Phew… Min Jaeyoon. Twenty-eight years old.”
“You’ll be twenty-nine next year then.”
“Yeah… I guess….”
“But why are you speaking informally?”
“….”
Min Jaeyoon’s lips parted sourly. At first, he didn’t know they were one year apart. When he found out later, he didn’t want to call him like he treated Jion hyung. So he put on a shameless face and spoke informally. However, Kang Seunghyun neither corrected it nor expressed dissatisfaction.
As if evading the answer, Min Jaeyoon picked up a rib with his chopsticks. Kang Seunghyun smacked the back of his hand.
“Stop eating, and just tell me. Why am I here?”
“Because there was an accident….”
Min Jaeyoon looked down at the rib that had fallen on the table. It wasn’t because he thought it was a waste. Even if it might look like hypocrisy in front of others, Kang Seunghyun maintained manners. It wasn’t that he was actively engaging with a smile like Kang Jion, but still, he didn’t behave without consideration.
“What kind of accident?”
“A traffic… accident….”
And he is not of a personality to pour out questions endlessly like this, nor to talk much. Min Jaeyoon lifted his head and stared ahead.
“I see. I don’t remember a single thing.”
Kang Seunghyun scratched his forehead over the bandage.
“Did I drive? Were you riding along too? Is that why we’re lying down together?”
Min Jaeyoon placed the chopsticks he had been holding loosely on top of the lunchbox. He blankly stared at Kang Seunghyun, who was rattling on by himself.
💍
“…As you will see when you go in, Executive Director Kang suffered brain damage as he struck his temple.”
