Wedding Ending Chapter 9
Director Im pointed out a specific spot on the scan. Even if the frontal lobe suffers slight damage, language skills or consciousness are not affected. However, the section responsible for personality or morality also belonged here. In other words, he could potentially become indifferent to adapting to his environment, sophisticated judgment, or moral reasoning.
With a hardened face, Director Im calmly disclosed.
“Along with memory impairment, symptoms of hallucination may also appear.”
Min Jaeyoon wore an expression of deep contemplation over what kind of words he should choose. Indeed, people usually choose their words while watching the other person’s face.
However, no such appearance could be found in the Kang Seunghyun standing before Min Jaeyoon. Pulling his upper body forward slightly, Kang Seunghyun spoke.
“Oh~ I have a hyung too?”
Min Jaeyoon nodded his head.
“What about marriage?”
It was right at that moment of distress. The hospital room door opened and Kang Jion walked in. As if seeing a savior, Min Jaeyoon sprang up. Watching that happen, Kang Seunghyun looked up as if drawn by it, then turned his head back. With one arm resting on the back of the sofa, he stared at Kang Jion as he approached close. His precise features and an appearance that could serve as a model for others looked highly sophisticated.
Anxiety was smeared across Kang Jion’s sharp, blade-like bridge of the nose and fluent lips.
“Jaeyoon, how is your body?”
Kang Jion reached out his hand and stroked Min Jaeyoon’s back.
“Hyung….”
Min Jaeyoon extended both hands as if clinging to him. His mind is in turmoil. Kang Seunghyun’s condition… is extremely bad. Though he hadn’t heard any definitive words from Director Im, that much he could assert with certainty.
“You spoke informally to me though?”
Min Jaeyoon’s eyes shook anxiously. He looked at Kang Jion as if pinned to the spot. It was as though he were pleading for help.
Dressed in hospital gown, Kang Seunghyun stood up as if annoyed. He watched Kang Jion intently. The two were of similar height. A strange undercurrent flowed inside the hospital room. As if to seize the upper hand, Kang Seunghyun released pheromones from his body. His unpleasant mood revealed itself not just through his gaze, but through his entire body. Min Jaeyoon hurriedly called out.
“Kang Seunghyun!”
“You stay out of this. And call me hyung too.”
Caught between the two, Min Jaeyoon resented God. Wondering why he had to be so short, he was being treated like someone who didn’t even exist.
Having shut the door firmly behind him, Director Im held his graying temple with a face that realized a major slip-up. The very thing he had been worrying about was ultimately taking place.
As people grow, they learn how to adapt to a pack. They naturally acquire it from parents, from friends, and from society. In accordance with adapting to the environment, they drew a line between things they could do and things they shouldn’t do. However, Kang Seunghyun, whose reasoning at that boundary had become blurred, was an Alpha with only instincts remaining. He was prioritizing his emotions just like a child. The line between a child’s innocence and cruelty was paper-thin.
Kang Seunghyun was a Dominant Alpha. Likewise, Kang Jion was the same. Dominant Alphas belonged to the top 1 percent. They were a tiny minority even among Alphas. This was possible because the families of the two had preserved the bloodline for generations. The father had been a Dominant, and the mother was a Recessive.
From birth, the two possessed superior physiques, excellent perceptual abilities, handsome looks, and extraordinary brains. Their starting point is entirely different from a Beta, who is an ordinary person, or an Omega, who doesn’t even measure up to that.
Min Jaeyoon’s knees trembled faintly. He was a Recessive Omega, but right now, he could not handle Kang Seunghyun’s pheromones. It was because he was emitting explosive pheromones while laying bare his hostility as much as possible.
An Alpha and an Alpha are strictly polar opposites. They merely maintained a good relationship as their ranks were determined in accordance with the framework given by society.
Accordingly, concealing pheromones under social conventions was a unspoken agreement. It belonged to manners that showed consideration for the weak. While ordinary Betas couldn’t feel it, the Omegas, who were a small number, were affected directly. Their backsides would become damp and slick with lubrication, making daily life impossible.
However, Kang Seunghyun had long since thrown that kind of stuff to the dogs.
“Hey! Kang Seunghyun….”
Min Jaeyoon quickly reached out his hand. However, his legs shook, making him flail. Without taking his eyes off Kang Jion, as if provoking him, Kang Seunghyun replied.
“You should say hyung.”
Who cares about that!
“Conceal your pheromones quickly. I’m going to die here….”
When Alphas fight, the one who suffers is the Omega. They might as well just trade punches and fight. Reaching his limit, Min Jaeyoon cried out, his pulled-together thighs trembling violently.
“We… we’re married. So you should listen to me!”
The head of Kang Seunghyun, who had been staring straight ahead, snapped around. The savagely swirling pheromones gradually settled into quiet. Unsteadily, Min Jaeyoon collapsed onto the sofa while clutching his shaking knees. Kang Seunghyun looked down, then sat across from him to match his gaze. Lifting his fingertip, he pointed at Kang Jion.
“Then, who is this bastard?”
Min Jaeyoon twisted his lips as if chewing on them.
“Your hyung. Kang Jion.”
Who are you calling a bastard!
Min Jaeyoon lifted his head with a furrowed brow. He intended to check Kang Jion’s complexion. Min Jaeyoon, who had been clutching his knees over his hospital gown, faltered. This was because Kang Jion’s face, from which laughter had vanished, made his blood run cold. Since he was a person who always wore a smile, it was also an unfamiliar sight. Just the fact that the smile on his lips had disappeared made him different from his usual modest self.
Don’t tell me, is Jion hyung going to get angry here too? Did Director Im not say anything… If he came straight here, he might not know the whole story.
“Hyung! It’s because Seunghyun hurt his head and can’t recognize hyung. He doesn’t even know me right now.”
Min Jaeyoon briefly summarized what he had felt over the past few hours. Kang Jion slowly shifted his gaze and looked down at Min Jaeyoon.
“It looks that way to me too. He’s lost his sense of respect for elders as well.”
As if he had never been cold, he harbors a smile on his lips. Just by that alone, it felt as though the heavily piled snow was melting away cleanly.
“You should have just told me quickly then! So I wouldn’t waste my energy either.”
Kang Seunghyun blamed others. As if it were unfair, Min Jaeyoon replied instantly.
“When did you ever give me a chance to speak? You just let loose your pheromones without a word.”
“Tch!”
As if his pride were hurt, Kang Seunghyun crossed his arms and leaned back against the sofa.
Director Im, who was about to open the hospital room window as if to cool down the heat, flinched. Despite the late hour, he closed the curtains tightly against the full view of the reporters forming a long line. He walked over while fanning himself with his hand as if pushing away the hot air.
On the sofa, Kang Seunghyun and Min Jaeyoon sat facing each other, and Kang Jion merely stood looking at Kang Seunghyun, not saying much else.
However, as a fellow Alpha, Director Im could feel the flow of the altered undercurrent.
The struggle for survival(生存) competition(競爭).
The weak(弱) are devoured by the strong(强). It is an immutable law. There was only ‘one’ king who led the pack. Kang Seunghyun had recognized it instinctively the moment he saw Kang Jion. That he was no inferior compared to him. And also the fact that the one with power claims the female.
Director Im extended the pen he had been keeping in his pocket toward Kang Seunghyun. He uncrossed his arms which had been folded across each other. Though he thought he would ignore it, Kang Seunghyun accepted the ballpoint pen. Wondering what he wanted him to do, he stared at Director Im with his eyes and click. He pressed the tip of the pen. Shifting his gaze, Director Im explained toward Kang Jion.
“As you can see, there is absolutely no hindrance to his daily life. It is merely that things unfold as he fails to remember….”
Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click.
“Executive Director Kang, you may stop now.”
Director Im muttered politely and snatched the ballpoint pen from Kang Seunghyun’s grip. Min Jaeyoon opened the water bottle that was in front of him. His insides were burning up. Taking a sip of water, he furrowed his brow. He suddenly raised his body. Rather than the water that had turned lukewarm, he needed cold water to soothe his chest where heat was soaring.
Min Jaeyoon opened the refrigerator door. He scanned the apples, pears, strawberries, green grapes, orange juice, soy milk, and water bottles that someone had stocked up. Just then, a long hand reached out and pulled out a bottle of water.
Min Jaeyoon’s head turned to the side. Beyond the thin hospital gown, a chest built up through exercise rises and falls. Tilting his neck back fully, Kang Seunghyun gulped down the water. His sharp throat convulsed several times.
