Flower Fiancé Chapter 66

“…I apologize.”

Lee Hyunjoon was at a loss for words upon seeing Secretary Jung Doowon, who appeared with casts on his arm and leg. He had heard his finger bones had been crushed, and the white cast that wrapped from his hand all the way up his entire right arm was an eyesore. Moreover, the numerous small scars covering his face spoke for what he had endured.

“We had not anticipated that Managing Director Choi would go this far either.”

Jung Doowon, who had been speaking with his head bowed, stole a glance at Lee Hyunjoon and then bent his waist as if he had no face to show. Lee Hyunjoon’s eyes, scanning Jung Doowon, slowly filled with fury.

It wasn’t anger at the fact that Jung Doowon, a close subordinate who handled his affairs, had been injured. To be precise, this was a matter of pride.

Sending his secretary back so battered was clearly a warning. Considering the conversation they’d had on the phone previously, it was something he could fully piece together. He could have wrecked him even more severely, but sending him back with damage just enough to still walk—that was a display of arrogance, as if to say he could catch and deal with him anytime, and a demonstration that he would do the same to him someday.

“That thug bastard handles things exactly like himself.”

Lee Hyunjoon, who had been loosening his neck by tilting his head left and right, let out a deflating breath and laughed. If that was a declaration of war, he fully intended to accept.

“Yeah, let’s see you try it.”

Muttering, Lee Hyunjoon ground his teeth until a grinding sound was heard.

Perhaps because he had blocked his number, after that one call got through, he hadn’t been answering his phone lately. Ha, how shall I cook Choi Moohyuk and Ji Yeonwoo. Lee Hyunjoon, his expression deeply furrowed, suddenly tossed out a question.

“What is Ji Yeonwoo doing.”

Jung Doowon froze on the spot. His gaze, naturally lowered, wavered dizzily. Noticing that, Lee Hyunjoon narrowed his brow.

“Why is there no answer.”

“The thing is… these days, he’s spending most of the week at Managing Director Choi’s home.”

Hearing those words, Lee Hyunjoon shot up from his seat and raised his voice.

“What? You’re saying they’ve set up house together?”

“The apartment where Managing Director Choi lives is such a thoroughly secured place that we couldn’t learn the details, but it’s said that he repeatedly enters the house with Ji Yeonwoo in the passenger seat and comes out when day breaks…”

Lee Hyunjoon, who had been listening with his face turning red and blue, eventually hurled the wine glass in his hand. The wine glass flew past Jung Doowon’s face, struck the glass cabinet in the study, and shattered to pieces.

Crash!

The thunderous noise that started from the study silenced even the faint sounds of everyday life that had been drifting in.

Before long, a knock was heard—tap tap. Lee Hyunjoon and Jung Doowon’s gazes turned toward the door.

The study door opened, and a female omega with long straight hair entered. Delicately made up, she was dressed in a black mini dress with a luxury brand logo stamped on the center of her chest. She was not dressed as someone who had just come in from going out, but as someone heading out now. Scanning her appearance, Lee Hyunjoon let out an empty breath as if dumbfounded.

She was the omega Lee Hyunjoon had recently remarried. The precious only daughter of Assemblyman Seo, outwardly packaged as being on good terms, but the reality was not so.

As Jung Doowon, who had been reading the mood, gave a greeting and exited outside, she, who stood with her arms crossed, opened her mouth.

“Ha, can’t you fix that habit of throwing things? At this rate, there’ll be nothing left of the household.”

Anyone who heard that would think she was quite the domestic person. Worrying about the household when she didn’t lift a finger for housework.

Lee Hyunjoon, who had been acting as if he hadn’t even heard her, took out a cigarette from the drawer and put it in his mouth. The moment she saw this, she, who had been standing at the door, strode over, snatched the cigarette away, snapped it with her hand, and flung it to the floor.

“And, even if he is your secretary, isn’t calling him to the house late at night a bit much?”

Because she lunged at him like someone who had made up her mind to fight, Lee Hyunjoon sighed as if fed up.

“You’re one to talk. Isn’t it a bit rich coming from someone going out in suggestive clothes at this hour?”

Lee Hyunjoon, who had glanced at the cigarette she had snapped and thrown away, paid no mind and took out one more, placing it in his mouth. Seeing Lee Hyunjoon do this, she gave a hollow laugh and swept her hair up as if annoyed.

“Something’s odd about your words. Are you trying to play the husband now?”

“Can I not? Your legal husband on the family register is me.”

Lee Hyunjoon raised one eye and stubbornly lit the end of the cigarette. And then, as if to show her, he blew cigarette smoke toward her—whoosh. She furrowed her brow and turned her head away from the smoke.

“Ridiculous. You haven’t already forgotten the contract made when both families approved this marriage, have you?”

“Yeah, yeah, I know. Thanks to that contract, my father gained political connections through my father-in-law’s introductions, and you returned to the arms of that lover you’d die without.”

Lee Hyunjoon, having sucked in a few more puffs of the filter, stubbed out the cigarette—not even half burned—in the ashtray. Slowly rising from his seat, Lee Hyunjoon stood face to face with her, close.

“But, the thing is, I’m the one who actually got married, and there’s nothing coming into my hands. From my standpoint, isn’t this a deal where I’m taking a huge loss?”

“Why is there nothing? Your trust with your father, which had fallen to rock bottom, went back up, didn’t it. You thought I didn’t know that you were exiled to America because they were afraid things would get noisy after you made a wreck of that omega?”

At her increasingly overstepping words and actions, Lee Hyunjoon’s previously relaxed expression also began to harden.

“And don’t measure me with the same yardstick as you. Do you think we’re in the same position?”

“Hey.”

“Yeah. As you said, I gained the person I love, but you gained nothing except a company title. Do you really not know what that means?”

Standing close, she pressed her finger firmly into Lee Hyunjoon’s chest.

“Your parents sold you off for the family’s interests. It means they no longer care what becomes of your life. Do you get it now?”

“Won’t you shut that mouth?”

“Hearing you talk, it seems you still can’t forget that divorced omega of yours. Wake up. Unless you want to lose even what little you still hold in your hands.”

Undeterred by Lee Hyunjoon’s warning, she finished saying her piece, and nonchalantly answered the phone vibrating in her hand.

“Yes. It’s me. I’m on my way out now. Already? Alright. Yes. I’ll be right there.”

She spoke on the phone with a smile in her eyes, looking straight at Lee Hyunjoon’s face. With a voice incomparably lighter and coquettish compared to when she had been speaking with Lee Hyunjoon moments before, she turned around, picked up the bag and coat she had placed on the sofa, and walked out.

What snapped Lee Hyunjoon, standing frozen in place and unable to hide his rage, out of it was the sound notifying him of an incoming message. Lee Hyunjoon, who had idly raised his hand and looked at his phone, let out a hollow breath—huh.

Inside the message were photos of Choi Moohyuk and Ji Yeonwoo kissing inside a car that appeared to be owned by Choi Moohyuk.

It seemed almost as if it was mocking Lee Hyunjoon, trapped in the past.

“Fuck, you think I can’t touch you just because of that?”

Lee Hyunjoon, who had been clenching his phone until his hands trembled, hurled the phone at the study’s glass window. Crash—watching the glass window shatter with a deafening noise, Lee Hyunjoon turned and left the house.

It was the moment his twisted obsession finally crossed the limit.

“Ah!”

Ji Yeonwoo, who had been blankly drinking water in front of the water purifier, dropped the cup he was holding. Without a chance to do anything, the glass cup struck the floor and shattered into fragments that scattered in all directions.

“Ugh.”

Even though he had done it himself, the startled Ji Yeonwoo stepped backward. He couldn’t even take one full step before he flinched and shrank his body. Along with a stinging sensation on the sole of his foot, he felt something flowing. When he lowered his gaze to look, dark red blood was already dripping—drip, drip—onto the floor. It seemed he had stepped on a glass shard.

“Mr. Yeonwoo, what…!”

Choi Moohyuk, who had been getting ready for work, came to the kitchen upon hearing the breaking sound. Seeing Ji Yeonwoo standing awkwardly with his glass-embedded foot slightly lifted, he frowned.

“I’m sorry. I accidentally broke the cup.”

The kitchen floor was a mess with broken cup fragments and spilled water.

“Don’t move and stay still. There might be glass shards.”
