His Breeding Obsession Chapter 142 - Human Butchers
Taylor, whose species’ superior intelligence specialized in crime, shook his head.
“Every thug in this neighborhood has a leg up on them. We’ll fight them, we’ll lose, but there’ll be a ruckus. We’re outnumbered, and I doubt they’re aware of us.”
“Still… they’re slave traders, so they’ll have plenty to eat.”
At Anaconda’s words, the rest of the companions’ eyes grew greedy. Taylor flinched.
It was about as difficult to ignore the presence of prey when the bandits were around, as it was for a hungry mouse to ignore good cheese.
After a moment of hesitation, Taylor shook his head firmly.
“Still, not now. If the slave traders see us, they’ll put everything else aside and come after us.”
Slave traders who bought and sold humans and the Human Butchers, the Vindicators, could not exist under the same sky.
Taylor’s logical argument was met with disappointment, but not vomit.
Following Taylor’s words would make their prey safer. He was their brake, and without him as their leader, the Butchers would quickly go from bad to worse.
“Hmm. We’ll have to think about that later. Let’s enjoy our little feast.”
The chimpanzee’s words were a bit of a cop-out.
Everyone nodded in agreement, even though it was only three days after the previous hunt.
The previous kill was a family of humans who had grown tired of being robbed and had taken up residence in an underground bunker.
It was a nice, tasty meal, but the number of prey was a vague seven, not quite right, and they’d lost two of them in the fight to eat each other.
“A shame, even now. Today we’re going to eat the bunch, and to do that we’re going to have to be stealthy. Sneak in, snap their necks first, take them down without a fuss, then the feast. Okay?”
“Okay.”
They exchanged a glance, then donned masks that allowed them to blend into the darkness, and pinned a blood-soaked gold patch to their chests.
It was the hunting mark of the Vindicators.
For their size, their feet were swift and their movements silent.
The five hideous shadows soon melted into the school of humans.
💫
Blink—
Mirania opened her eyes in the darkness, a tingling sensation pricking her skin.
It was similar to the sensation she’d felt when Malandor of the Black Realm had been near, but far more foul and unpleasant.
‘Something evil has entered.’
Mirania glanced around the room without rising. She was currently sharing a room with Wigenia and Minella.
They claimed it was to save on candles and other supplies, but it was really to keep an eye on her.
Mirania had been a solitary woman all her life, and this sudden roommate was strange.
On the bed against the opposite wall, someone stirred. It was Minella. Her demeanor was cautious, as if she, too, had realized the intruder’s identity.
I could feel her gaze. A troubled look.
She woke Wigenia first, then approached Mirania. Her voice was harsh.
“Wake up, there’s an intruder.”
Mirania turned her head to stare at Minella. Her hands were on the scabbard at her waist, her eyes were sharp.
Even her whisper was wary.
“An intruder at this very moment. Isn’t that a bit of a coincidence?”
“It is.”
Mirania agreed meekly. Minella raised an eyebrow.
“Ha! Come in front of me, my suspicions about you have not been allayed.”
“Are you trying to use me as a shield?”
“That depends on your behavior. If you’re innocent, I’ll protect you.”
‘I need to assess the situation first.’
Mirania stood up obediently. Minella walked ahead of her and cautiously opened the door.
The candle-lit hallway was dark, but eerie, as if something lurked in the presence of the intruder.
Mirania glanced behind her. Minella’s eyes were sharp, and Wigenia, weaker than her, was struggling to keep her composure.
“Let’s go.”
Minella grabbed Mirania by the collar and pulled her away, quietly but firmly.
“Just so you know, don’t get any ideas, I can subdue someone of your stature with a single hand.”
“You’re already treating me like a sinner.”
Mirania muttered something absurd, but Minella ignored her and focused on navigating ahead.
Soon they stopped in front of the room where the children were staying.
Holding her breath, Minella cautiously put her ear to the door.
💫
After hiding in the school, the Vindicators break into a room by opening a window.
With a hundred members, they’ve decided to each take room for efficiency, which they say sounds like a plan, but it’s really just greed to get more prey than the others.
Taylor shouted ‘Lucky’ to the sounds of young breath all around him. It was a hit.
‘Five breaths I can feel.’
There were five kids in this room.
His hands were shaking. He brandished a dagger. The blade of death fell upon the children huddled on the small bed.
Blood!
Blood spurted as the arrow sliced through the flesh.
The scent of blood. That thick, intoxicating smell. Taylor wrinkled her nose.
His heart pounded in his throat. His head was swimming, and his heart was racing like a mad cow.
‘Ehehe! That’s awesome. Kill, kill!’
Twenty of the original vindicators died in the rampage, their blood in their veins, unable to control their need to kill.
Taylor was rational compared to them, but he was still controlled by the need to kill.
Hands were shaking. His breathing was ragged.
That was his mistake.
Evil!
“…!”
A thick knife sliced into Taylor’s shoulder as he spun around.
If he hadn’t realized it in time, he would have been decapitated.
Cold water poured down on his murderous heart. Taylor’s eyes sharpened as he regained his senses. His shoulder throbbed with pain. Nerves flared.
There was a broad-shouldered man in a room he’d thought was full of children.
Before Taylor could think, the knife swung.
It seemed like a random swing, but the blade was optimized for turning someone upside down.
Taylor barely stepped back to avoid the blade.
“You son of a b–!”
Kanit raged. He gritted his teeth at the smell of blood wafting into his nostrils as he pulled Taylor away from the children.
The death of a precious child who had survived this ordeal.
Despite his rage, Kanit tried to keep his cool.
The intruder’s muscles were too much like a weapon to simply lunge.
‘He’s well-trained.’
Taylor and Kanit glared at each other, both expecting an attack.
“Ah, at this rate, we’re going to be late to the other room.”
A simple bully wouldn’t have gotten away with it, but Kanit’s momentum was too much for Taylor.
“I’ll take that bet.”
Kanit’s ears perked up as he muttered, intent on provoking his opponent.
“You mean there are more intruders besides you?”
“Well, if you’re wondering…”
Taylor’s mouth opened wide.
“Kill me and find out!”
A massive body lunged at Kanit.
Swords clashed.
Bam!
“Ugh!”
Kanit groaned, unable to dodge due to the children behind him.
The first strike was enough.
‘This is too much power.’
The power of the sword was more than he had imagined. At another time, he would have been confident.
No matter how strong the opponent was, the teachers at the school were no pushovers.
They were the representatives of humans against the territorial beasts.
But the situation was bad. They couldn’t duck and take advantage of the opportunity.
‘The moment we leave, the children behind us are in danger.’
The smell of the man’s blood stiffened Kanit’s body. The smell of death stirred the instinct to live.
Taylor wasted no time in lunging for him.
Bam!
Kanit’s body was instantly pockmarked with several scabbards.
As if releasing the scabbard for the flavor of the meat, Taylor sliced through the creature’s body, barely dodging out of the way.
“Ouch.”
“Oh, boy, you’ve gotten a little carried away with your play, I’m going to have to finish you off.”
Taylor’s lips were torn open in a long slit as his tongue licked the blood from the blade of the dagger.
His head dizzy from all the blood loss and strain, Kanit pressed hard against his forehead.
‘I’ll die at this rate. If I die, the children must live.’
Taylor lunged at him. Kanit screamed.
At that moment, the door burst open.
“Minella!”
The color drained from Kanit’s face.
‘You noticed and came to the rescue!’
Meanwhile, contrary to Kanit’s expectations, Minella was frozen. Her gaze was glued to Mirania’s back.
‘What is she doing here, being so confident?’
When she first noticed the intruder, she tensed.
Kanit and her skills were evenly matched, so the intruder she was struggling with must not be of a low level.
Just as she was about to steel her resolve and increase her combat power, the door burst open.
“…!”
Minella jumped at the sight from inside.
The culprit was Mirania, who was holding her hostage.
“No, this woman is crazy!”
“He’s filthy and gives me the creeps, and I’ll deal with him.”
A gruff voice reached her ears.
‘Nonsense. A fragile greenhouse plant that couldn’t twist a chicken’s head!’
I was about to lash out when the woman snapped her fingers.
‘What are you doing?’
The answer was soon apparent. The intruder’s gaunt face was enveloped in a giant water droplet.
“Huh?”
Minella blinked, clutching her sword.
“Oof, uh, urgh!”
‘What the hell!’
Taylor was the one who panicked more than anyone else.
