His Breeding Obsession Chapter 145 - Without Anyone Knowing.

Author: Nikss

Grecan opened his mouth. He was infuriated, but his ‘reason’ told him he shouldn’t kill them.

The desire to tear their frail throats with his teeth and bathe in their foul blood consumed him. His mouth opened wide.

Growl—!

A stream of shadows shot toward the sky.

Plop, plop, plop—

Alarmed birds flew from all over the mountain.

The roar that rose from the bottom of its chest stirred the primal fear in its instincts.

“Ugh!”

The beast’s warriors, transformed into full human form, covered their ears with their hands.

Some turned on their backs and ran into the forest.

The humans, less physically capable than them, hugged each other and hoped the horror would pass.

“Hmph…”

Grecan breathed raggedly. His heart raced, and the blood rushed through his veins as he let out a single shout.

“Ah, argh…”

One by one, the humans raised their heads in the still air, their eyes fluttering wildly.

Hakan, wrapped in uprooted wings, peeked his head out.

No longer in his grotesque form, Grecan had shifted into his normal human form, but the menace in the air was the same.

“Help me, please do not harm us.”

Completely surrendered, the villager sank to the ground, his body almost in tatters.

“I’ll tell you all I know, sir… He, Mr. Granger, said he was in the capital, but other than that, I don’t know, I really don’t. I swear, truly…”

Hakan looked around him. The men and women, human and otherwise, trembled at Grecan’s power.

Hakan had been no different from them, but the sight of them sent a faint thrill of pleasure through his throbbing chest.

The humans cowered before him like frightened mice.

A look of pride flashed across his face.

“Hakan.”

“Yes, High Lord.”

A subtle twist of the corners of Grecan’s lips twitched as he watched Hakan’s bravado.

It wasn’t that he didn’t know Hakan, but he was irritated by the man’s use of authority.

“We’re going back.”

“Yes, ba… Yes? We’re heading back?”

Hakan’s eyes narrowed.

“Is there a problem?”

“Leave these humans as they are…”

Hakan, who had casually pointed at the submissive humans, quickly changed his demeanor when he saw Grecan’s grim expression.

“I will prepare to return immediately.”

Grecan whirled around.

“Thank you, thank you.”

A shaky voice drifted into his ear, and he frowned.

Goosebumps broke out all over his body.

Don’t thank me. I wasn’t trying to save you.

I was trying to kill you all. If it weren’t for the image of Mirania’s fury.

[How arrogant of you. This is why you’re nothing more than a fool!]

Her rant echoed in my head.

Grecan’s expressionless eyes subtly narrowed.

Mirania taught magic at the school.

At first, the children were eager to learn the mysterious power of magic.

There were twelve children, including Donny, who wanted to learn magic, all of them coming to school, but after three days, there were only three left.

[I don’t know how to do the letters, so I can’t start learning right now.]

[It’s too hard, I think I’m more of a swordsman.]

It was an unexpected problem.

Smith watched Mirania perform her magic with great admiration, then frowned.

[I know how to use my own magic, but yours isn’t exactly human magic.]

[My magic is not the same as yours.] [At this rate, no one will ever learn magic.]

[That’s… hmm, undeniable.]

Unlike the witches.

As such, they were expected to have a difficult time learning the sorcery of the witches’ shared spells or the natural magic of the High Witch.

But whoever she was. Mirania was a thousand years old.

She had accumulated a great deal of experience and knowledge.

Human magic was one of many.

[I have studied your magic. You gather your magic near your heart, and the circuitry for your magic is carved into an object, such as a wand, or your body, and you manifest it by a method called casting.]

[That’s right, look at this wrist. That’s my magic energy in there. If I store spells, I can cast them much faster, but that’s something you can’t do unless you’re a very good wizard…]

[Heh, don’t worry about it. The only thing you need to worry about is if there’s a talented child here. If it’s a kid who can’t feel magic and has a poor brain, the magic circuitry will be useless.]

For that reason, only three people have come forward to learn magic from her so far.

Among them was Donnie, who was bright enough to read and understand most of the books in the library the Resistance had assembled from their travels around the world.

Characters were left out of the equation. He had no problem writing and reading casting.

Donnie frowned and stared at the dry wood.

Mirania, sitting in the chair across from him, crossed her arms and watched him.

Sweat broke out on his forehead, and Donnie spoke, “I give thee the heat that originated with me, blazing fire.”

Swish, a thin wisp of smoke rose from the dry wood.

Disappointment crossed Donnie’s face.

It was short-lived, and he quickly glanced at the book open beside him.

“From what the witch said, the wood should catch fire, and from what I’ve seen in this book, it should produce as much fire as a match flame.”

“…”

“There was smoke, and I could feel the magic draining from my heart. If the magic was manifested and the result was this, could it be a lack of magic that caused the failure?”

A thin smile formed at the corners of Mirania’s expressionless mouth.

Suddenly, the room lit up like a candle on a dark night. Donnie bit his tongue in surprise.

“You are correct.”

Donnie blushed, embarrassed to have lost his train of thought. The tip of his tongue tingled.

Regardless of his reaction, Mirania lifted a long finger and pointed to the smoldering wood chips.

“You said you wanted as much light as a match, so don’t make fun of a small fire. Compare the movement of your heart’s magic to the flame.”

“Ah!”

Donnie’s face widened in serious thought.

“There must be twice as much magic power as I just used, no, at least three times as much!”

“Correct. Unlike witches, who are born with it, the quality of a human wizard is a constant quest, so you are correct in that regard as well. Now, look.”

Mirania snapped her fingers. The wood chips burst into flames.

A piece of wood engulfed in a roaring fire. Donnie’s mouth dropped open.

“If you humans had two circles of magic, you could do this.”

“Wow.”

“You don’t have a full circle yet, so you’ll have to concentrate on gathering energy for now.”

“Okay.”

“The thing to remember is that magic is a product of will. The same is true of your powers. You have the gift of feeling magic, but if your will is weak, it will never stay with you.”

“I will keep that in mind.”

Mirania glanced at the window.

It was wrapped tightly in blackout cloth, so no light was leaking through, but she could feel the rays of sunlight crouching outside the window.

“What’s the mermaid child doing?”

“Master Donaty has gone to a gang of thugs. He’s been acting a little naughty lately, so they’ve been calling him around a lot.”

At the mention of Donaty, Donnie’s face quickly turned worried.

“I’d go with him, but I don’t like bullies, and if I go, I won’t be able to help…”

Donnie muttered in frustration, then looked up.

“Now that I’m done studying, do you mind if I go out? I need to catch some fish, and I’m catching better now that I’m using the method the witch taught me.”

“Go ahead.”

Mirania waved goodbye and Donnie strode away.

Someone sat down where Donnie had left. The air smelled of fresh water.

Wigenia set a steaming cup of tea down in front of Mirania.

“How’s Donnie doing?”

“Well, not bad.”

Nazic glanced at the smiling Wigenia.

“To tell you the truth, Donnie’s the only one here who can engrave magic circuits.”

Wigenia was not disappointed by Mirania’s dismissive remark.

“It’s a good thing Donnie has the talent, because the others need to learn alchemy or swordsmanship or something else, because they don’t even know what they’re good at yet.”

Mirania sipped her tea and stared at her.

A half-mermaid/half-human, raised by a professor as a child and now a teacher at a Resistance school, Wigenia was warm and positive by nature.

In this harsh world, where people don’t trust others, she’s the one who made children open their hearts to school.

“I was a dull child, but I learned so much under her, and I’m so happy and grateful to be able to give back what I learned.”

Rolling her eyes at the smiling Wigenia, Mirania tilted her teacup, the warmth pleasing.

“I’m glad to have someone like you here.”

Mirania had met a lot of humans, and she knew that people like Wigenia were the spiritual center of the pack.
