The Crow who had been conducting the test took off his mask.

That meant the test was over.

“This guy is really something, huh?”

Gisela Lott also took off her mask after her senior and let out a dry laugh.

“This kid really has no filter.”

An orphan with nothing to lose.

Dimark Shuren looked at Rookie with complicated eyes, then gestured toward the back.

Noah Benton, who had been waiting impatiently while bouncing on his feet, quickly came running over with the antidote.

“What? What the hell are you, saying? If you’re going crazy, huff, at least go crazy, quietly, ngh!”

“Now, now, it’s medicine. Hurry up and drink it, Rookie.”

Noah Benton opened Rookie’s mouth and shoved the bottle inside.

He also remembered to pinch his nicely shaped nose.

“Mmph!”

When something suddenly went into his mouth, Rookie struggled, but once he could not breathe, he had no choice but to gulp down the potion.

“Pwah! What the hell did you give me…… Huh?”

The antidote worked quickly.

That was why it had been made in liquid form on purpose.

“Benton…… sir? Lo, Lott-nim?”

“Looks like your vision came back first! Can you recognize me, Rookie?”

“Yes……. No, but what on earth is this……. Where are we, Benton-nim?”

“The underground prison! I borrowed a cell for a little while!”

“Runelk Eins.”

When Dimark Shuren called his name, Rookie looked up at him with eyes that had finally regained their focus.

He was obviously very confused, but there was still a clear sense of caution in his eyes toward the unfamiliar man.

Now that the effects of the drug had faded, his face looked even younger, and the way he had just put himself down overlapped with that face, leaving a bitter feeling in Dimark Shuren’s mouth.

Dimark Shuren swallowed a sigh and spoke to Rookie.

“I hereby inform you that you have passed the final test to become a Crow.”

“……What?”

“Congratulations on becoming a true member of the Nest.”

“Wooo!”

Noah Benton threw the antidote bottle aside and raised both hands in celebration.

“That’s great! Welcome, Rookie!”

“The test…… was a test?”

“It’s like the final hurdle to becoming a true Crow.”

At Gisela Lott’s answer, Rookie tightly shut his mouth.

Then, after staying silent for a moment, he muttered in an annoyed voice.

“So I’m a Crow from now on, even though I already was a week ago.”

“Do you think I enjoyed torturing you?!”

She jumped at him and shouted angrily, just as much from guilt as anything else.

Her hand nervously rubbed the sweaty face beneath her mask.

“You passed! If you passed, that’s all that matters!”

“What would have happened if I couldn’t take it anymore and told you about the Crows?”

“What do you need to know that for?!”

Even while shouting, Gisela Lott turned her head to avoid his eyes.

She could not bring herself to tell him that he would have been destined to be “disposed of” right there.

The one who changed the subject was Dimark Shuren, who pulled out a dagger and approached Rookie.

“Are you going to stay tied up?”

“Oh, uh, thank you.”

After the ropes were quickly cut away, Rookie rubbed his numb wrists before belatedly asking,

“But who are you?”

“A Crow who works in the Punishment Department, Dimark Shuren. Come find me if you need anything.”

After cutting the ropes around Rookie’s ankles as well, Dimark Shuren put the dagger back into the sheath strapped to his thigh and stood up.

“There’s one thing I want to tell you.”

“Yes, sir.”

“The Crows will never abandon you, Runelk Eins.”

His rough, calloused hand lightly patted Rookie’s wet hair.

“No matter what you become, you will still be a member of the Nest.”

“…….”

Rookie tightly shut his mouth once again.

Then, without answering, he simply nodded.

He did stagger a little and frown along the way, though.

“You’re still pretty dizzy, right, Rookie?”

“A little.”

“You must be sensitive to the drug. We’ve never had anyone have trouble breathing because of it before. It must have been hard, so drink this and get some good rest.”

Noah Benton took another bottle of medicine from his pocket and handed it to him.

“What medicine is this?”

“It’s just something to help you sleep well.”

“I feel like I’ve taken way too much medicine today…….”

Rookie muttered with a sullen expression, but soon opened the cap and swallowed the medicine.

And when the others finished roughly cleaning up the inside of the prison and turned around, Rookie was already asleep.

Seeing him completely passed out with his head against the back of a chair, Gisela Lott gave Noah Benton an order.

“Take him to the sleeping room in the Nest.”

“Me?”

“Then should I do it? Or should Senior Demi do it?”

Noah Benton looked back and forth between Gisela and Dimark, then let out a deep sigh and answered,

“……Yeees, I’ll do it.”

“Take him there and get ready to write the report. Don’t get sidetracked somewhere else.”

“Yeees.”

Noah rolled up his sleeves and, with a formal grunt of “Heave-ho,” easily picked Rookie up.

No matter how small Rookie was, he was still an adult who had passed the age of twenty.

And he was completely limp, passed out like a drunk person.

Noah was taller than Rookie, but he was just as thin.

If anything, the muscles showing on him were even more lacking.

Still, no one was surprised to see him lift Rookie so easily.

Dimark glanced at them and even gave Noah a little lecture.

“Noah, his head is falling. Support it properly.”

“Yes!”

Following his senior’s words, Noah made Rookie rest his head against his shoulder and answered loudly before leaving the prison.

Noah walked lightly toward the Nest, humming as if he had never been gloomy before.

“Heheh, I’ve got a junior now, too.”

The blanket against my skin was incredibly soft and light as a cloud.

The bedding provided to the action squad was not cheap, but it was not exactly luxurious either.

The unfamiliar feeling pushed my desire to sleep far away.

When I suddenly opened my eyes, everything around me was pitch-black.

“……Where am I now?”

What my eyes, which worked especially well in the dark, saw were empty beds.

There were six beds in total, including the one I was lying in, and the air in the room was comfortably warm.

The second place I had woken up in after falling asleep because of some unknown medicine was quite comfortable.

Out of habit, I moved the hand holding my necklace and checked that it was still hanging properly around my neck, when I heard voices.

“Senior Gisel, I’m hungry. Can’t we eat something before we do this?”

“Didn’t you just eat a bunch of beef jerky?”

“That was a snack.”

“Where do you put all the food you eat? I’m not hungry, so do whatever you want.”

“Noah, buy me something, too.”

“Yeees. Would three sandwiches be enough, Senior Demi?”

“Four.”

They were voices I had become quite familiar with by now.

‘So I’m inside the Nest.’

Now that I knew I was somewhere safe, I thought I could relax a little more.

‘First, I should check my injuries.’

I moved the hand that had been holding my necklace and felt around every part of my body.

Unlike how I had been suffering for so long, my body was perfectly fine.

There were no places wrapped in bandages, and there were no stitched wounds either.

‘Whatever it was, that cookie sure was something.’

I had definitely been tied to a chair and stabbed in various places.

I had not had the chance to check how much I was bleeding, but the pain had definitely been real.

Even I, who had experienced all kinds of things, found some moments almost impossible to endure.

But now that I thought about it, it seemed that all of it had been caused by the drug.

I pulled open my collar and looked down at the shoulder that had been stabbed last. There was nothing left but a faint bruise.

‘Still, they really didn’t torture me.’

In an organization where secrecy was essential, testing whether someone had the mental strength to keep those secrets was nothing unusual.

There had also been several signs.

Gisela Lott had prevented her beloved junior, Noah Benton, from becoming too attached to me, while also refusing to give me proper training.

Her strange attitude had been the biggest clue.

It seemed like she was holding back emotional and time investments until she was certain about something.

And the second sign was Graf Müller from the Intelligence Department.

Had he really visited the action squad purely of his own will?

And at such a late hour, past midnight?

Could someone have told him about how Dupon had summoned me separately and deliberately provoked him?

Of course, there was also the maid who had acted strangely, saying that she had come to give me cookies but I had been absent from my room.

There was no doubt about her.

Her questions that day had been far too persistent and probing.

‘……She said her name was Rine Berg, and she works in the kitchen, right?’
