I Live With My Villain Uncle Chapter 2
“Where is the man who looks like Mom?”
“Aika, that man is Cassel. He’s your one and only uncle.”
“My uncle?”
“Yes. Your uncle.”
“Then…… I want to see Uncle!”
I only found out later that my uncle wasn’t called the Mad Dog for no reason.
His track record was astonishingly extensive and terrifyingly impressive in all the wrong ways.
Of course, his personality and character, which seemed to be broken in several places, played a part in that too.
I heard there had even been incidents where a family nearly disappeared because they incurred my uncle’s wrath, and there were families that actually disappeared altogether.
Apparently, the man who proposed to my mother was never seen again after that, either. I have no idea what happened to him, though.
Ironically, despite having such a cruel and hot-tempered nature, apparently he was still among the top three most popular men among noble ladies. Well, whatever.
On top of that, according to my grandfather, my uncle had an incredible nose for money and played a significant role in increasing the family’s wealth.
Then why did I end up living with this good-for-nothing uncle of mine……?
There were several reasons.
First, because he was my mother’s only sibling.
Second, because Grandfather sent me to him on the condition that my uncle accept the title of Marquess.
In truth, my uncle had said he had no intention of accepting some marquessate, but Grandfather forcibly passed the title on to him—and sent me along with it.
I knew this because I overheard the conversation between Grandfather and my uncle.
“If you want the title of Marquess, take Aika with you.”
“Has the old man lost his mind? Give the title to a dog, for all I care.”
“You good-for-nothing bastard! I’m saying this because Aika might be in danger! How many people do you think are after the family?”
“……”
“No matter how crazy you may be to everyone else, you’ll protect your niece properly, won’t you?”
And that was how I came to live with my uncle, Cassel de Vallier—the brother of my mother and the only remaining child of the Duke of Vallier.
Now, of course, he had accepted the title of Marquess and became Cassel de Reguier.
Hmm. As you can see, Uncle hates me.
He seems to hate me very, very much.
I didn’t exactly like that kind of uncle either.
Even so, there was one final reason for coming to him, even going so far as to stubbornly insist that I at least be allowed to see his face.
And that reason was the most important of all.
To save my uncle.
That day, when the carriage accident happened, Mom gave me a special ability before I lost consciousness.
Even though blood was flowing from her head, Mom suddenly forced a red jewel no bigger than my pinky fingernail into my mouth and said,
“Aika, my beloved daughter…… I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you until the very end.”
“Mom, no. Sob. Don’t die.”
“Aika will now have special eyes. No matter what you see or come to know in the future, never be surprised. This will save the precious people in your life.”
“Special, sob, eyes……?”
“You mustn’t tell anyone. It’s a secret only Mom and Aika know, okay?”
After promising that I would never tell anyone, I woke up to find that Mom was gone.
Even after her funeral was over, I didn’t understand what Mom had meant.
But from that day onward, I began having dreams that were more vivid than reality, and when the scenes I had seen in my dreams appeared exactly as they were before my eyes, I finally understood.
I had gained the ability to see the future.
It was an ability that allowed me to sense danger involving people connected to me in advance.
Considering that I had even dreamed about the closest maid working at Grandfather’s house, it didn’t seem like a power limited to blood relatives.
And later on, it wasn’t only in dreams. Sometimes, even while I was awake, visions like hallucinations would suddenly appear before my eyes.
Very rarely, though.
Then, once I became accustomed to my ability and was able to naturally prevent accidents from happening to the maids as well……
I had that dream.
“Uncle! No!”
A dream in which my uncle became involved in something even more dangerous than what had happened to Mom and met his death.
On the day I gained my special ability.
Even as I was losing consciousness, I faintly heard the voices of unfamiliar people talking.
“Find the necklace first. What’s inside is important.”
“I found it, but it’s empty inside.”
“Tsk. He must have gotten rid of it somewhere. We’ll leave before those bastards come barging in. You’ll stay hidden and continue searching later.”
“Understood.”
I don’t know why I can’t remember anything else and only that part remains in my memory, but those voices were still vivid even now.
“We have to find it and return, no matter what.”
The necklace Mom had torn off, and the jewel she had hurriedly made me swallow.
The people searching for something were definitely dangerous people.
“Aika, you must not let anyone discover this special power. ……You have to be careful of them.”
If I didn’t find those people and have them locked up, Uncle would be in danger too.
No matter how many times I tried to stop it.
“Aika, someday I’ll let you meet your uncle. He may be a Mad Dog…… or rather, he’s more like a puppy, but you’ll like him when you see him. He’s actually warmer-hearted than anyone.”
Mom always said that.
She said that even though she couldn’t see her younger brother often, he was her one and only precious little brother.
And that even though I didn’t know what he looked like, all the toys I played with had been bought by Uncle.
I couldn’t just stand by and watch that uncle of mine die.
‘Uncle and I…… I’ll protect both of us.’
Because Mom said I was her most precious treasure.
I would definitely grow up healthy and become a wonderful adult.
And so, although I couldn’t protect Mom, I decided that I would protect my uncle.
Because he was the only person who looked like Mom.
That was why I had come all this way, despite how difficult it was, only for Uncle to stubbornly reject me and treat me like some Peanut.
Tch. He doesn’t even know how I feel.
If Uncle hadn’t been Mom’s younger brother, I wouldn’t have even looked at him.
If he didn’t look even a little like Mom, I wouldn’t have liked him either.
Except for his handsome face, his personality was completely eccentric and nothing like Mom’s anyway.
“There’s nothing I can do.”
I’m a good seven-year-old, so I’ll endure it. I’ll endure it.
I put down my doll and stood up, dusting off my skirt.
I couldn’t let the dress the maids had so prettily dressed me in since morning get ruined.
“Oh, it’s wrinkled.”
I smoothed out the crumpled dress as much as I could.
Even if I was being treated like this, I absolutely had to stop Uncle from going out today. No matter what.
Mom used to say so.
You should never underestimate even the tiniest spark.
No matter how small a spark was, if you left it alone, it could grow uncontrollably into a massive blaze that would devour everything.
Mom said that if you spotted the spark that would become dangerous and put it out first, you could call yourself a hero.
And so, I decided to become a little hero.
As soon as I opened the door and stepped outside, a maid came rushing over.
“Young lady, is there anything you need?”
It was Zenda, who had taken care of me since the very first day I arrived here.
She must have been waiting beside the door until I came out.
She had apparently worked here for more than three years, and what she was best at was embroidery and sewing.
As if to prove her skill, Zenda had even embroidered a sunflower in full bloom on the left sleeve of my dress.
And she knew Uncle’s personality very well.
Well, it seemed that not only Zenda, but nearly all the servants here knew about Uncle’s nasty temper.
“Where’s Uncle? Where did Uncle go?”
Unlike Uncle, I asked the kind Zenda while looking up at her.
“The master? The master went to get ready to go out. He probably went to the dressing room.”
“Then I’m going to Uncle.”
At that, Zenda’s face darkened like a storm cloud.
She already looked full of worry.
“More importantly, it will soon be snack time. How about having your snack in your room? I’ll make you some delicious cocoa. Forgive me for saying this, but when the master is busy, it’s better not to go near him……”
She probably thought I was going to get scolded by Uncle again.
I smiled sweetly and shook my head.
“It’s okay! I have to hurry before it’s too late.”
“Understood. I’ll escort you there.”
Since I kept insisting that I was going to Uncle, Zenda eventually led me to the front of Uncle’s dressing room with a face that looked like she was about to cry.
Worried that Zenda might get scolded, I sent her away and began pounding on the firmly closed door.
“Uncle!”
As expected, there was no answer.
I know you’re in there, Uncle!
I cupped my hands around my mouth like a megaphone, brought them close to the door, and shouted again at the top of my lungs.
“Uncle! Uncle! Uncleeee!”
Then I heard a rather rough sound from inside, and the door suddenly flew open.
My uncle, who had taken off his shirt in the meantime, glared down at me with a terrifying expression.
“I clearly told you not to make yourself noticeable……”
I ignored the sound of his teeth grinding and smiled brightly at him.
“Uncle! Let’s play house!”
Sorry, Uncle, but you absolutely cannot go out today.
