Honey, Why Can’t We Get a Divorce? Chapter 165 - Side story 18
In fact, Largo’s appearance wasn’t an unexpected situation.
Since the Grand Duchess had ordered Largo to be summoned immediately, I had anticipated that he would appear soon.
However, I was still not mentally prepared.
So, while I had expected Largo to appear soon, I certainly didn’t anticipate him suddenly appearing and threatening me with a sword to my neck.
“I’m talking about me.”
Largo said, still holding his sword to my neck.
“It probably won’t happen, but just in case, I made a worst-case scenario assumption.”
His voice, which I hadn’t heard in a long time, was terribly horrible. It was painful to the ear, even though his pitch wasn’t that high.
“If I fail, what should I do?”
“….”
“I’ve been wondering what I should do if my plan to drive you all into hell fails, and instead, I end up falling into hell myself.”
He tilted his head toward me and smirked.
Even without turning my head to look at his face, it was obvious what kind of expression he must have had. He was probably wearing a damn annoying one.
“Hmm. I think I’m far more suited to be Emperor than that idiot Callian, considering all the plans I’ve made from various angles. That’s what I think, anyway.”
You’re talking nonsense. I clicked my tongue in response.
“A prince who tries to kill people just because he dislikes them doesn’t seem fit to be an emperor, does he?”
“Hmm. Even in times like this, your sharp tongue proves you’re definitely the Duchess of Ryzen. I like it.”
Should I take this as a compliment or an insult?
It was probably the latter, but now wasn’t the time to worry about such things. After all, the blade against my throat was sinking deeper with each passing second. If I wasn’t careful, my head might roll off.
“I understand now.”
So I prioritized changing the subject.
“You were planning to lure me out by spreading that ridiculous rumor about an affair with the Grand Duchess.”
“You know that now?”
Largo answered with a giggle.
“Logically, there’s no way I could have shared love with that thing.”
He pointed to the Grand Duchess who was trembling across from him and said. Anyway, he was just talking nonsense.
“The Grand Duchess has eyes, so I guess she would have rejected someone like Your Highness.”
The Grand Duchess may be awful, but she’s better than Largo. At least she isn’t the type to threaten to kill someone. When it comes to choosing between a dung cart and a funeral cart, the funeral cart is obviously the worse option.
“Still got that damn shameless tongue, huh?”
“It’s neck to neck.”
Largo burst into laughter once again and withdrew the sword from my neck. He then moved to sit next to the trembling Grand Duchess.
“Your husband is definitely the one who killed me, so you find it strange that I am alive?”
“Don’t speak so recklessly. My husband will be executed. Wait, since His Highness is still alive, maybe he won’t be executed after all?”
“You’re like a pair of crazy lunatics.”
Largo, still holding his sword in one hand, nodded.
“Think of them as doppelgangers.”
Doppelgangers?
One of the monsters in the Demon World?
I frowned.
“One of the magic circles I had was that. Surprisingly effective. Even your husband was fooled for a moment.”
Well,
Sylvester must have thought that Largo, who was cornered, couldn’t do anything. Even though a cornered mouse would bite a cat at least once.
Of course, he hadn’t bitten yet. It was just before he was bitten.
“Anyway, the answer to the question I mentioned earlier has been decided. Aren’t you curious?”
“Yes. I’m not curious.”
“But I’ll tell you anyway. It’s more fun that way.”
“….”
Why did you ask if that was the case?
I stared at Largo while holding a handkerchief to my bloody neck.
“If I fail, it means I won’t be able to inherit the throne…”
Largo folded his arms and frowned slightly.
“Then should I commit treason?”
This guy seemed like he could do it. That’s why Sylvester immediately took care of Largo.
“No. That would be too tiring. I’m not even sure I’ll win. And if I fail, I’ll really end up dead, and I don’t want that.”
He shrugged.
“I’m also scared of Father. I don’t think I can beat him.”
“I feel that way too. He seems like a crazy person.”
If he were sane, he wouldn’t stay silent among hundreds of birds. Even now, just thinking about him sends chills down my spine. He’s just too crazy.
“Can you say that in front of Father?”
“I absolutely can’t.”
“What if I tell him?”
“I’m going to tell him it’s a lie.”
Largo let out a mock laugh, as if amused. Taking advantage of the slightly relaxed atmosphere, I slowly began to gather my strength. In order to use black magic on Largo if necessary.
“Anyway, I value my life. That’s why I never dreamed of rebellion.”
But strangely, I couldn’t gather any power. Was something set up in this room? My eyes twitched in irritation. To think that the dark magic I trusted had betrayed me!
“So I thought about going into exile. If your husband kills my doppelgänger and holds a funeral for me, I would technically no longer exist, which would give me the freedom to leave without any ties.”
But I shouldn’t show my panic here. That would give Largo something to attack me.
So I responded with an indifferent expression.
“Then why didn’t you leave sooner? I’d recommend the Duchy. It’s a free city, after all.”
“Yeah. I thought so too.”
Largo chuckled quietly, leaning forward with his elbows on his thighs. His eyes, looking up at me, glimmered with a faint madness. That crazy b*stard…
“But it’s a shame to just leave.”
“You’ve already done everything you can do, so I don’t think you’ll have any regrets.”
“No, no. There’s something I regret.”
Largo widened his eyes so much that his pupils were barely visible, with the whites of his eyes showing above and below. Didn’t they say that people with strabismus are psychos? Is it that psychos have strabismus, or that strabismus makes someone a psycho…? Either way, the fact remains that Largo is a psycho.
“I was worried about leaving those two guys who failed me alone.”
“Sometimes it would be nice if you showed the aesthetic of leaving them alone.”
“Ugh, I don’t want to.”
Largo closed his eyes and smiled.
“Since you’ve interrupted me, wouldn’t it be fair for me to interrupt you in return?”
“I don’t think it would be good.”
“No. I like it.”
He held his sword and immediately aimed the tip at me.
“Ophelia Ryzen.”
Gulp. I swallowed dry saliva without realizing it. Even at this moment, I couldn’t gather my strength, so it was extremely frustrating.
“You die here.”
It was then.
