Honey, Why Can’t We Get a Divorce? Chapter 164 - Side story 17

Author: rolypoly

I arrived at the mansion where the Grand Duchess was staying and followed the footman’s guidance inside.

I heard that she was in the middle of a divorce suit and had lost both her money and her house… How could she have rented a mansion in the city? And even hired a footman?

‘She might have gotten the money from somewhere else.’

For example, Largo, or Largo, or maybe Largo.

Of course, Largo’s assets were confiscated after his crimes were confirmed, but could it be that he doesn’t have any hidden money? Maybe he had much more money than he was known to have.

“So it’s only reasonable for me to suspect the Grand Duchess,” I muttered to myself as I sat quietly in the drawing room, waiting for her.

‘I’ve been waiting for quite some time.’

Seeing that she still hadn’t appeared, I couldn’t help but think, Is this some sort of uninvited guest ritual?

She was giving me the hint to leave without directly saying it, as she clearly didn’t have the courage to say it outright.

But.

‘So what?’

I have a lot of time on my hands.

There was no morning sickness, and my body felt fine, so I could wait for hours without issue.

What if she still doesn’t show up after a few hours?

‘I’ll have to use Sylvester Chance.’

If Duke Ryzen comes in person, the Grand Duchess will have no choice but to show her face.

‘Since she’s in the middle of a divorce lawsuit with the Grand Duke, this kind of threat will probably work on her.’

Wouldn’t it be smart to seize the opportunity when it comes?

Having made up my mind up to this point, I leisurely sipped my tea and began reading the books I had prepared.

Thinking that I should wait until dinner at least.

But to my surprise, not long after, the Grand Duchess suddenly swung open the door to the drawing room.

“Wouldn’t it be better to go to the cafeteria if you want to have some tea?”

She strode toward me without even saying hello.

“Didn’t you know that I meant to tell you to go home after keeping you waiting for two hours? If you’re stupid and say you didn’t know, I’ll understand.”

People who fart are the ones who get angry.

After wronging me in the trial, how can she be this shameless?

But if I get angry here, I will be a loser.

I leisurely took another sip of my tea before raising my eyes.

“Well, I suppose the real fool is the one who forgot about the trial from just a month ago, isn’t it?”

“W, what did you say?”

“If you were a smart person, you would have brought it up and apologized by now… The reason you haven’t is one of two things.”

I deliberately raised my eyes to look at the Grand Duchess, who was flustered. When I glare, my face looks even more intimidating.

“Either you’re really stupid, or you have a backer you trust.”

“Ophelia Ryzen! Shut your mouth right now…!”

“Well, even if I don’t look into it, the backer is obviously His Highness Prince Largo.”

I calmly spoke to the Grand Duchess, who was screaming. Her face, turning red and purple, was quite a sight.

“That’s why, Grand Duchess.”

I leaned forward and glared at her, who was still standing.

“Are you two really in that kind of relationship?”

The Grand Duchess crumpled her face in frustration before quickly fanning herself with the fan she had been holding. It seemed unlikely that it would cool her down, but… that wasn’t my concern, so I remained silent.

“Let me make this clear first.”

The Grand Duchess said as she sat down.

“His Highness and I are not in that kind of relationship.”

“I thought so too.”

I shrugged my shoulders.

“First of all, the Grand Duchess is not a romantic person who can be swayed by feelings like love.”

“Is that a compliment?”

“If that’s what you want to think, then by all means.”

The Grand Duchess’ eyes narrowed. She glared at me, biting her molars.

“I think I finally understand why you’re the Duke’s match. Every time I look at you, I feel like I’m about to explode with frustration.”

“Be glad I’m here. If my husband had been around… well, let’s just say you’d probably have fallen backwards by now, Madam.”

Seeing the Grand Duchess’s face turn red again, I decided to stop teasing her. It was time to get to the point quickly.

“Anyway, I judged that a realistic person like you wouldn’t choose His Highness Prince Largo, who is already in a fallen state. Of course, I don’t know if it were true love.”

“Absolutely not.”

The Grand Duchess shook her head with an expression of apparent disgust.

“There’s no way I could love a guy like that.”

“Oh my. Are you really saying this after almost having me killed because of that man?”

“So, there was a reason for all of that! He was threatening to kill everyone, how could I…!”

“I’m not curious about the reason.”

I cut off the Grand Duchess’s attempt to continue her excuses.

Let’s just look at the facts.

The Grand Duchess betrayed me.

As a result, I faced a great crisis at the temple trial, and I almost got executed.

If I hadn’t prepared for the unlikely scenario back then, I might have been dragged to the execution ground.

Of course, the Grand Duchess is not a bad person by nature, so the choice that drove me to death was ‘inevitable.’

But I was the one who nearly died—should I really be the one to understand her ‘inevitable choice’?

I’m not that kind of a good person.

I don’t want to live like that.

“I didn’t come here to hear some lame excuses.”

“So? Did you come just to drink tea, or did you come to get on my nerves?”

“I wanted to hear where His Highness Largo is.”

The Grand Duchess’ face began to harden. As expected, my guess that she would know information about Largo was correct.

“He’s dead…”

“Madam. I didn’t come here to hear lies. Are you really going to make me angry?”

“….”

At my cold rebuke, the Grand Duchess pressed her lips tightly together. She didn’t speak for a long while, as if realizing that no excuses would work now. Instead, she chose to respond with silence.

Hmm. What should I do?

“By the way, Madam. Did you buy this house with a loan from the bank?”

“N, no. It’s a rental…W, why is that?”

I quickly smiled and lifted my chin.

“These days, I have anger management issues. When I get mad, I end up using black magic without even realizing it. Last time, I accidentally destroyed an entire annex. Ah, suddenly I feel the power…!”

“Stop this crazy thing! Stop!”

“My power…!”

“I’ll tell you! I’ll tell you!”

The Grand Duchess shouted urgently, as if the threat of destroying the house had worked.

“He’s alive! He’s alive!”

“Yes, you should answer like that.”

I smiled and withdrew my strength. The Grand Duchess continued.

“But I really don’t know where he is. I can only meet him when he comes to find me, so I’ve never gone to look for him… No, seriously, stop it! I’m telling the truth!”

She rushed toward me, shouting in desperation as I was about to release my power again. I gave a slight tilt of my chin.

“Then make him come.”

“…What?”

“Set fire to the house, scream at the top of your lungs, or use someone to bring him here.”

“How is that possible…!”

“Madam.”

This time, I stood up. Looking down at her from above, I calmly spoke.

“I think I’m going to get really angry.”

Was it because I spoke with an unusually firm face?

The Grand Duchess trembled as she stepped back. Then, she mumbled something under her breath, but when she realized I wasn’t going to back down, she sighed in resignation and pulled something out of her pocket.

It was a magic circle.

“You had a way to call him all along, yet you kept lying until the end… You’re truly wicked, Madam.”

“This was only meant to be used in an emergency!”

“Then I guess it’s not an emergency right now. Should I make it urgent for you?”

“Okay! I will call him!”

The Grand Duchess gritted her teeth and unfolded a magic circle. It seemed like a basic summoning circle capable of summoning someone, but it looked different from the demonic summoning circle that Largo had used.

‘Well, I wouldn’t entrust something so precious to the Grand Duchess.’

Watching the Grand Duchess stutter and recite the spell on the magic circle, I sat down on the sofa again. No, I tried to make her sit down.

“Oh my, Grand Duchess.”

The cool sensation on my neck woke me up. I turned my body slightly and felt pain at the back of my neck. It was the sharp blade touching me.

“If the Duchess had come, you should have told me that she had come. Then I would have come sooner.”

The murmur of voices allowed me to guess who the speaker was without even trying to figure out who it was.

“Anyway, thank you.”

None other than…

“For giving me a great gift after coming back from hell to kill the Duchess.”

It was Largo.
