Flash.
Evelyn’s eyes snapped open.
Her vision was blurry, and she lay still, blinking repeatedly.
Only after her sight cleared did she realize she was in the middle of the first-floor lobby.
Rubbing the aching back of her neck, she sat up.
‘……What just happened?’
She couldn’t understand the situation.
Right before losing consciousness, the system had definitely warned her that someone was targeting her life.
‘Did it show question marks because it was a demon I haven’t met yet?’
Or—
was it the same person who distorted space before?
A system window conveniently appeared before the confused Evelyn.
[You have fallen into ????’s clutches.]
[10 minutes remain until Holloway finds you.]
[Survive until then.]
Survive?
Why suddenly……
‘That wording clearly assumes I might die.’
A terrible chill wrapped around Evelyn.
Her already pale face turned even whiter.
She instinctively searched the floor for a weapon.
‘Where’s my Morning Star?’
Having both hands empty in a dangerous situation made Evelyn scan her surroundings anxiously.
Roll……
Something rolled toward her and bumped against her foot.
Her face immediately brightened.
“My Morning Star!”
Not knowing what might happen, she hurriedly picked it up.
“That little thing isn’t going to change whether you live or die.”
A confident, high-pitched female voice echoed throughout the lobby.
It wasn’t Moran or Cynthia.
The voice was unmistakably colder and sharper.
At the unfamiliar sound, Evelyn instinctively tightened her grip on the Morning Star.
Goosebumps rose around her neck.
‘If it’s another woman inside this abandoned hotel besides Cynthia and Moran, there’s no way I wouldn’t know who it is.’
Evelyn immediately tried leaving.
But the echo of high heels rang chaotically around the lobby.
Click, click.
Behind the steady clicking came heavy footsteps.
Those two—
were always together.
Thud.
Thud.
The sounds overlapped and drew steadily closer.
Evelyn whipped her head around.
Neither figure was visible.
Two demons who, unlike Suriel or Dilaf, never appeared separately.
Their identities immediately flashed through Evelyn’s mind.
Rather than wait for them, she decided to run.
The footsteps surrounded her from every direction, but they had to actually be approaching from only one place.
‘I’ve never been good at gambling, but……’
I can’t just stand here waiting for those two demons.
Perhaps they sensed her intention.
The heavy footsteps suddenly accelerated.
THUD.
THUD-THUD-THUD-THUD!
‘They’re trying to catch me!’
Gritting her teeth, Evelyn forced her fear-stiffened body to move and ran.
Her long hair streamed behind her.
She moved her arms and legs as widely as possible, trying to gain even the smallest amount of speed.
If she left the area, Holloway might miss her.
But remaining in the same place for ten minutes while fleeing from those two was impossible.
Ten seconds would be more than enough for them to kill a human.
‘I have to hide somehow!’
If those really were the two demons she suspected……
She was absolutely dead.
Blood gathered between her bitten lips.
“Extenron.”
A terrifyingly clear soprano sounded behind her.
At the same time, Evelyn sensed something enormous.
A huge, elongated black shadow easily swallowed her fleeing form.
Huff.
Huff.
A demon breathed harshly through a metal muzzle.
One massive hand instantly seized Evelyn’s thin arm.
“Ugh!”
The grip was powerful enough to snap her arm if he applied even slightly more force.
The demon showed no intention of loosening it.
Cloudy black eyes peeked through shaggy hair.
A huge muzzle sealed his mouth.
His height was similar to adult Holloway’s—
but his body was even larger.
[‘Demon of Sorrow’ Extenron has appeared.]
[Do not recklessly provoke sympathy in front of him.]
[You will be punished immediately.]
[ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ ♬ ♬ ♬ ♬]
And, naturally—
another demon appeared together with him.
“Hold her properly, Extenron.”
“Yeah.”
A woman leisurely emerged from behind his huge frame.
[‘Demon of Hatred’ Sellir has appeared.]
[Do whatever you want.]
[You may also do nothing.]
[You will die regardless.]
[ヘ(;´o`)ヘヘ(;´o`)ヘヘ(;´o`)ヘヘ(;´o`)ヘ]
Exactly as the system warned—
no matter what they did or didn’t do, any human who met Sellir died.
Of all the demons here, she had by far the highest number of kills.
With red lips pressed into a straight line, she offered no warning.
She immediately drove her nails into Evelyn’s stomach.
STAB!
Sellir twisted her hand inside the wound.
The unbearable pain tore a scream out of Evelyn.
“Aagh!”
“All this over one insignificant human. Pathetic!”
Sellir’s gray eyes were filled with contempt and hatred.
The blood-colored murderous aura seeping from her body was clearly even thicker and more violent than Suriel’s.
Sellir lost all self-control around humans.
Gritting her teeth, she kicked Evelyn in the stomach.
“Ugh!”
The pain spreading from Evelyn’s abdomen made even breathing difficult.
Sellir stared coldly as she writhed.
“Weak little human.”
“…….”
Extenron didn’t interfere.
He simply stood firmly behind Sellir.
Evelyn coughed up a mouthful of blood.
The pain was so severe she could barely move.
Even someone as optimistic as Evelyn—
though she rarely showed it externally—
had already been consumed by fear.
Her body barely obeyed her.
Still, gritting her teeth, Evelyn fought against all of it.
She staggered—
but forced strength into her legs and stood.
Her slender legs buckled like those of a newborn deer.
Even so, she refused to fall.
Cold sweat drenched her face.
Still, Evelyn forced a sneer toward Sellir.
‘No matter what I do, I’ll die here.’
‘Then I refuse to die quietly.’
Even half-dead, Evelyn’s eyes burned brighter.
Extenron couldn’t look away from those violet eyes.
Mysterious.
Beautiful.
Even with death right in front of her, the light inside them refused to wilt.
Extenron’s lips parted slightly.
Then closed again.
Evelyn gripped the weapon tightly.
“Must be nice being strong.”
“What?”
“Being strong……”
Evelyn aimed the Morning Star directly at Sellir.
“Must be fucking nice, you crazy bitch!”
She hurled the weapon with all her strength.
[Due to rage, Attack Power temporarily increases!]
[The empowered Morning Star flies toward Sellir!]
[Time Sellir can be restrained: 15 seconds.]
Fifteen seconds might sound short.
To Evelyn, it was more than enough.
‘These two aren’t the kind of bastards who’ll laugh because I grin and say something stupid.’
They were more likely to say, ‘How dare you try to entertain me?’ and tear her lips apart.
CLANG!
The Morning Star struck Sellir squarely in the ankle.
Grinding her teeth, Sellir stepped directly onto the weapon where it had fallen.
CRUNCH!
The iron weapon crumpled and shattered like paper.
“What a pathetic trick……! Extenron!”
“Yeah.”
What are you, a PoXmon trainer?!
Should I call Holloway too?
Then it’ll be three against one.
Of course, the ‘one’ is me.
I’ll keep my mouth shut.
Even in this situation, Evelyn’s mental state remained surprisingly strong.
Clutching her injured abdomen and sweating coldly, she ran.
Blood dripped behind her, leaving a trail.
THUD.
THUD.
THUD.
Extenron’s heavy footsteps followed.
Unable to endure the tightening fear, Evelyn suddenly shouted,
“Did you shove iron rods into your feet or something?!”
Ding.
[Extenron is dejected.]
Extenron stopped and let his massive body slump.
Evelyn unconsciously apologized.
“Sorry.”
“…….”
Sulking, Extenron turned his head away.
“Are you pouting?”
“…….”
“Fine.”
Nothing I can do.
I’ll just keep running.
As Evelyn sprinted away without looking back, Extenron hesitated.
“…….”
[Extenron blankly watches you flee.]
Why?
[He is considering cutting your back in half.]
Whoa!
Wait!
Still running, Evelyn turned only her head toward Extenron.
He was drawing the massive greatsword strapped across his back.
Evelyn raised one hand and shouted,
“Stop!”
Extenron reflexively froze.
Sellir, now looking perfectly fine, walked over and smacked his arm.
“Why are you stopping just because she tells you to?!”
“…….”
“Don’t bully him. He’s allowed to stop!”
Sellir stared in disbelief at Evelyn, who somehow kept talking while running.
Her lips were blue.
Blood streamed from her body.
She looked as though she might collapse at any second.
Yet her mouth was functioning perfectly.
“A kid? Who are you to call Extenron a kid?! Did you give birth to him?!”
“No!”
“……You!”
Sellir stammered at Evelyn’s shameless response.
Then she bit her lip hard.
Her eyes sharpened.
“So this is the kind of act you fooled the others with?”
Thoroughly enraged, Sellir violently ripped the greatsword from Extenron’s hand.
“Let me teach you something. I’m not merciful like those other bastards.”
“Yes. You’ve been demonstrating very clearly how different you are.”
Sellir twisted her mouth at Evelyn’s immediate retort.
“Aren’t you afraid of dying?”
“I am.”
I’m terrified.
Please.
I’m begging you.
Would you mind letting me live?
[Sellir finds you pathetic for having no pride.]
What use is pride here?
Evelyn let out a hollow, self-deprecating laugh.
“Enough games.”
Sellir sprinted forward as though determined not to give Evelyn time to try anything else.
Extenron followed.
He easily caught up.
Without hesitation, he seized Evelyn’s hand and yanked her backward.
THUD!
She fell.
Pain shot through her butt.
“Th-That’s mean……”
Evelyn looked tearfully up at Extenron.
He froze.
Her jewel-like eyes filled with tears.
For no reason, guilt made Extenron hesitate.
Evelyn immediately jumped upright and fled.
Sellir screamed furiously behind her.
“Extenron! She’s human! How long are you going to react to every little thing she does?! You spineless bastard!”
Sellir kicked off the wall and ran.
Her high heels repeatedly embedded into and released from the wall.
In an instant, she caught Evelyn.
Sellir leapt and landed lightly in front of her.
‘She was behind me a second ago……’
Evelyn backed away half a step.
But Extenron had already approached from behind and blocked her retreat.
Sellir advanced by the exact distance Evelyn had retreated.
She looked down at her.
Deep, long-standing hatred swirled inside her gray eyes.
“From this moment onward, I’m going to kill every single one of you.”
Evelyn staggered and asked through a bloodless face,
“……Am I first?”
Sellir answered by adjusting her grip on the greatsword.
Then she raised it.
Without hesitation, she swung downward.
Extenron was holding Evelyn in place.
She couldn’t evade.
SLASH!
The greatsword carved diagonally downward from Evelyn’s shoulder.
Blood sprayed from the wound.
Red system windows flashed like emergency lights.
[=͟͟͞͞=͟͟͞͞ヘ( ´Д`)ノ DANGER!!]
[=͟͟͞͞=͟͟͞͞ヘ( ´Д`)ノ DANGER!!]
[You were struck by an attack filled with Sellir’s murderous intent!]
[Death is approaching!]
“Ugh……”
When Extenron released her, Evelyn collapsed.
Pain ripped from her shoulder downward.
She could barely breathe.
She couldn’t even scream.
She couldn’t move so much as a finger.
“That was easy.”
Sellir wiped Evelyn’s blood from her face and looked down.
Evelyn’s condition was terrible.
She could do nothing except lie there coughing up blood.
Sellir watched with pleasure.
Then she gripped the enormous sword in both hands and raised it high.
A drop of Evelyn’s blood gathered on the sharp point.
Drip.
It landed on Evelyn’s cheek.
Warm.
Blood continued pouring from between Evelyn’s lips.
The pool beneath her slowly soaked into Sellir’s shoes.
The light in Evelyn’s once-bright eyes gradually faded.
Her gaze settled on the sword point aimed directly at her neck.
‘……I’m going to die like this.’
Cough.
She couldn’t imagine any way to survive.
‘I never thought this would be how I ended.’
Emergency alarms screamed.
Countless windows warned of danger.
Still—
‘There’s no way out……’
Through her blurring vision, Evelyn saw Sellir’s delighted smile.
“Goodbye.”
Sellir drove the sword downward.
Then—
CRUNCH―!
The light disappeared completely from Evelyn’s eyes.
