Subscriber of the Gods Chapter 453 - Subscriber of the Gods (3)

Author: Dawn

The imperial palace of the Holy Empire.

Numerous officials dressed in court attire were lined up in front of a massive platform.

Today was a very important day for the Holy Empire.

“Princess Evangeline is entering.”

It was the day of the coronation ceremony for the 12th Emperor.

Under the guidance of the previous emperor, Cairodias Sacred, Evangeline, who was to become the new emperor, walked in slowly.

“Princess Evangeline, come forth!”

At Emperor Cairodias’s command, Evangeline walked towards the emperor with gentle steps.

The emperor slowly removed his crown.

“I have been in this position for quite a long time. But now that I’m old, I’ve decided to pass it on to a new wave. If anyone objects, speak now. I will hear your opinion.”

The officials remained silent at the emperor’s declaration.

“Then I’ll assume everyone is congratulating.”

The 11th Emperor Cairodias Sacred handed the imperial crown to his daughter, Evangeline Sacred.

“Evangeline, Your Majesty, the new emperor. I entrust the Holy Empire to you.”

“Yes.”

Evangeline bowed her head with a determined expression.

As the crown was placed on her head, the official conducting the coronation ceremony shouted loudly.

“We solemnly declare that Her Majesty Princess Evangeline Sacred has ascended to the throne as the 12th Emperor!”

With this, Evangeline Sacred officially ascended to the throne as the 12th Emperor.

The numerous officials of the Holy Empire bowed their heads.

All of the 11th Emperor Cairodias’s children, who once fought for succession, participated in this coronation ceremony.

Normally, those who lost the succession battle cannot attend the coronation ceremony.

However, since Evangeline had overwhelmingly won this succession battle, she could show mercy.

“We have no choice but to acknowledge it.”

“This might be better. If we had been at similar levels, there might not have been many of us left alive.”

The 11th Emperor Cairodias Sacred embraced Evangeline.

“It’ll be tough, daughter.”

The emperor, having put down all the burdens on his shoulders, looked quite pleased in many ways.

Cairodias, who always looked bored.

Seeing the former emperor smile after a long time, Evangeline found herself smiling along without realizing it.

“It feels like it’s been so long since I’ve seen you smile, Father.”

“You’ll be the same when you’re in that position. Smile a lot while you can.”

After the grand imperial coronation ceremony ended like that.

Evangeline, wearing the imperial crown, came down from the platform.

Black Sword, who had been waiting, approached her.

“Congratulations, Your Imperial Majesty.”

“Congratulations!”

“This is all thanks to you. Thank you so much for not giving up on me when I was suffering from an incurable disease and for following me.”

Evangeline, who was usually quite rational, couldn’t control her emotions during the coronation ceremony.

Although her talent was outstanding, she had been essentially eliminated from the succession battle due to an incurable disease.

Even though Evangeline was out of the power structure, Black Sword and the Black Sword Squad stood by her side until the end.

Evangeline was so grateful for that.

“Now it’s time for you to receive your reward.”

“We are satisfied just to be able to serve Your Imperial Majesty.”

“Your ascension to the throne is the reward we’ve received!”

“You’re good with words.”

Evangeline said with a laugh.

“Now that the coronation ceremony is over, may I ask what is the first thing you’d like to do?”

Black Sword asked the now 12th Emperor Evangeline with an overwhelmed face.

“The first thing to do is.”

Emperor Evangeline smiled brightly.

“To go to a festival.”

“…Pardon?”

“The Extinction Recovery Festival.”

“…Pardon?”

Black Sword asked like a fool twice.

“Why am I able to be here like this? It’s because my incurable disease was cured, right? Then who cured my incurable disease? It was Count Ethan, wasn’t it? I’m thinking of going there to bestow a title.”

“Your Imperial Majesty! Such things shouldn’t be decided hastily…!”

“Then I’ll go enjoy the festival first and think about it. Let’s go to Whiskers territory. Going to Whiskers territory will be my first act as emperor.”

Emperor Evangeline said with a light laugh.

“Come on, let’s all go to Whiskers territory right now! Prepare grandly! Count Ethan, who cured my disease, has recovered! We can’t just sit back and watch this, can we?”

***

During the month-long festival period, all those invited by Ethan arrived one by one.

Elves, dwarves, dark elves.

People came from the desert and from underwater cities.

Many bird-folk from the sky city also attended.

“W-What!?”

“Angels…?”

“They are bird-folk from the sky city. Please don’t be too surprised.”

The king himself came from the sky city.

“To just leave abruptly like that. We bird-folk always repay our debts.”

He personally participated in the festival to express great gratitude to Ethan for handling the chaos in the holy land.

“But… hmm, this should be a city of humans. Why are there so many other races?”

The numerous different races who arrived in Whiskers territory were all thinking the same thing as they looked at each other.

“Wow, look at those wings.”

The dwarves who live underground were amazed at the bird-folk who live in the sky, and the desert warriors were surprised at the merfolk who live in the sea.

Of course, with the northern Gaister Desert gone, they were no longer called desert warriors, but their skin was still somewhat dry.

“How can they be so moist?”

That’s why they were quite envious of the merfolk’s moist skin.

“Wow…”

“How far does Young Master Ethan’s network extend?”

“At this rate, it seems like he went around the entire continent making connections with each race, but… is that even possible?”

But their surprise didn’t end there.

Rumble-!

With a thunderous sound, a massive dragon appeared.

“I have come at the invitation of Ethan Whiskers.”

“Ah, no… you even invited a dragon?”

“This is unbelievable. Just how far does Young Master Ethan’s network…”

Most of the affairs in Whiskers territory were handled by Ethan.

Of course, Count Whiskers and his talented subordinates took charge of the implementation, but it was all Ethan who created the overall framework and recruited the talents.

Especially the market and workshops, which could be called the symbols of Whiskers territory, were all touched by Ethan’s hand.

For a year, he formed the market and workshops, recruited talents, and even acted as a teacher at the academy at the same time.

And it wasn’t just acting as a teacher.

He was so devoted to academy life that he even earned the title of Master.

“…He even attended the academy. He even earned the title of Master teacher.”

“It seems impossible even with ten bodies.”

But that wasn’t the end.

Now it was the turn of the nobles.

Numerous nobles who had formed connections with Ethan were entering Whiskers territory without pause.

“The head of the Ramsdale family has arrived!”

“The Sword Saint has arrived!”

The heads of the Twelve Families, including the Sword Saint, began to gather one after another.

“Surely this must be the end now…?”

But this was just the beginning.

“The Pope of the Holylight Order has arrived!”

“The Saintess of the Holylight Order has also arrived!”

The Pope and Saintess of the Holylight Order.

When the rarely seen Saintess made her appearance, many bowed deeply at her holiness.

And the finale was the emperor.

“The, the new emperor has arrived!”

“!”

“The, the emperor has arrived?”

The final boss had appeared.

“We really need to be careful today…”

“If we make a mistake caught up in the atmosphere… ugh!”

Something terrible might happen.

***

Not only the heads of the Twelve Families but also their successors came to this festival.

“I arrived first…”

Ciron Ramsdale greeted Count Whiskers cheerfully, but there was already someone else beside him.

“Hohoho, Young Lord Ciron has arrived. Thank you for coming to the Extinction Recovery Festival! Young Lord!”

However, Ciron was making eye contact with the person next to Count Whiskers.

“…Hello, teacher.”

It was Mason Yellowd, Ethan’s favorite disciple and a candidate to succeed the Yellowd family.

“The Hyde family has also arrived!”

Claudie Hyde and the people from the academy arrived.

“I arrived first, right?”

“…No, you didn’t.”

“Eh, I came as soon as I received the message. No, when did everyone else arrive? Did Teacher Ciron arrive first?”

Iris shook her head with a frustrated expression.

“No, I wasn’t the first to arrive.”

“Then who?”

“It was Roanna.”

It was Mason who answered Iris’s question.

“Roanna arrived first, teacher.”

“…?”

“She lives in this territory now.”

“What?”

“I heard she set up a workshop here and is in charge of running it. It’s an official workshop run by the Prochet family.”

Mason gritted his teeth.

“I’m also going to ask the family head to set up an academy in Whiskers territory. I was just talking to Count Whiskers about it.”

“…”

Iris shook her head.

“Where is the teacher?”

Count Whiskers pointed inside in response to Ciron’s question.

It’s been just over a year. During that time, truly dreamlike things have happened.

“He’s inside. He’ll be resting now, so it would be better if we all meet later. I’ll let him know first. Don’t worry. I’ll tell him that everyone has come.”

Count Whiskers said.

“He’ll be really grateful.”

“Of course we had to come. Teacher Ethan has recovered!”

Count Whiskers was very grateful for such feelings.

***

Inside room.

Ethan and his two guards, Schudlen and Yerica, were sitting side by side drinking alcohol.

“I thought this day would come someday, but I didn’t expect it to come so quickly.”

“Now that you’re healthy, it’s so great that you can drink alcohol too.”

Schudlen and Yerica had very cheerful expressions.

These two had been watching Ethan from the beginning.

From the time when it seemed like he would collapse if pushed slightly, to his current healthy state.

That’s why Ethan’s recovery resonated more deeply with them.

“Yeah, I had actually forgotten what it feels like to be healthy.”

He had cured that terrifying Extinction.

“But Lord Ethan… I heard that the princess, no, Her Imperial Majesty is coming. Why is she suddenly coming when she just had her coronation ceremony? She must have a lot of work to do. Considering the handover, it seems like she’d be busy with work for a full year even if she focused solely on it.”

“She’s coming to see me, of course.”

“…Why?”

“Well.”

Ethan just smiled and touched his face.

The implication was, can’t you see?

“You certainly have added a healthy glow. But I preferred how you looked before.”

“I think you look much better now! Ah! That’s not to say your previous face wasn’t good…”

Schudlen waved his hands in embarrassment.

Ethan looked at the two of them and drank his alcohol.

“Lord Ethan, I’m sorry to interrupt your rest, but many guests have arrived.”

“Has everyone come?”

“Yes, everyone who received the letter has responded, and they’ve all arrived now.”

“Then tell them to come in. Let’s start the banquet.”

“Yes!”

“Shall we get up then?”

“Let’s go drink some more.”

Schudlen and Yerica stood up.

Ethan followed them out to the corridor.

There were many arrivals in the corridor.

Ethan looked at the faces of those who had arrived.

“Thank you all for coming!”

When Ethan shouted loudly, congratulatory voices erupted that seemed to shake the corridor.

Ethan smiled contentedly.

“It’s good to be alive.”

People are unwise, so they only realize how precious something is when they lose it.

Ethan had lost his health, so he keenly realized how important that health was.

“I must cherish it.”

This time, he would never let it go.

Because the Subscriber of the Gods had survived as Ethan Whiskers.

< Translator’s Afterword >

That is it for the Subscriber of the Gods!

Phew, what a long journey this one was. Subscriber of the Gods, for me was the first Korean novel that I started to translate, coming from JP Web Novel.

I’ve grown a lot while translating this novel. From my English to translating Korean to English (I’m using MTL I know, but even if I used MTL, it’s still hard to just make every chapter at least readable and not destroying the flow of the story) Of course, it’s still far from being perfect and I feel like there are a lot of parts that are making you, readers, “uncomfortable” by my translation. For that, I can only apologize and I’ll do my best for the novel that I’d picked up next.

Anyway, as the author said, I must thank you, you readers, the one that left comments/reactions, or the one who just reads quietly. Thank you, really!

Also don’t forget to write a review on the NU page plus, if you can, somehow, show support for the Author, I’ll be forever grateful.

Ah and lastly, thank god I don’t need to change the Demon Empire to Magic Empire LOL

Aight, bye bye~

  1. Thank you for translating this Dawn. It’s taken me quite a while to finish reading it due to money troubles, but I’m happy to say I enjoyed it (and I hope it helped you a bit). I must say I felt the last 30 chapters or so felt somewhat rushed, but nonetheless it was a good story, and I don’t regret paying to read it. Hope you have a nice day.

    1. Hey! I just saw your comment!! Thank you very very much, it certainly helped a lot! Honestly, I feel the same reading some of the last chapters. I feel like the story can be explored more. It’s probably due to pressure, but who knows. Really, I appreciate your continued support!
