The gray sky grows distant. This means the ground is getting closer. My mind was hazy.

I couldn’t tell if it was due to the wound in my side or the pressure from the devil. Only the fading sky and the devil’s red gaze looking down at me from above remained clear.

How bad was the wound in my side? That was the first thought that came to mind as soon as I regained consciousness amidst the confusion.

The world that had turned black and white regained its color. After the blue sky and sunlight, my breathing returned.

I instinctively took a deep breath. Two sensations rushed over me at once.

More intense than the pain of the wound in my side was the chill filling my lungs.

“Cough!”

The cold made me cough. The pain in my side intensified. I immediately surrounded my body with winds.

I expelled the cold while stopping the bleeding.

The hole in my side was about the size of a fist. A large wound, but not as bad as I had feared. Of course, this situation was still the worst.

Oh no.

I tried to turn and fly away, but the ground was right below me. I hurriedly supported myself with winds. Still, it felt almost like falling.

With the sensation of something touching my back, leaves entered my field of vision. I had fallen onto a tree. My vision blurred.

Rustling sounds of leaves shaking came from all around. As I hit the ground, leaves showered down on top of me.

‘At least I avoided instant death.’

It was fortunate that I had regained control of my winds, albeit belatedly. If not for that, wouldn’t I have died from the fall?

Conscious of what was above, I quickly reached into my pocket.

After roughly applying what little hemostatic agent I had left to the wound, I wrapped a bandage around my waist, applying pressure to the injured area.

It wasn’t something that could be stopped with such simple treatment. But there was nothing more I could do.

I stood up, holding Tsukva’s Scythe. The devil was descending from the sky. Slowly, as if savoring this moment.

‘Devil of domination.’

It was the one I had encountered before. Not directly, but through a magical tool searching for Devil’s Blood.

At that time, I never imagined I would meet it like this, in this moment.

It landed near me, looking down as if at captured prey. Its red eyes above black sclera seemed emotionless.

But the pressure was beyond imagination. It was worse than facing a serious Rudehrn. My breathing was rapid and my body trembled.

Even so, I couldn’t show weakness. I gritted my teeth and glared at it. Silence fell.

Unlike me, it was calmly observing me with a composed face.

“Carl Schurtafen.”

A calm statement. I didn’t bother to respond.

“And Carlyn.”

It was natural for it to know my name. There were traitors within Haisen after all.

“It was all you.”

“What was all me?”

“You should know better than anyone how you’ve been interfering with our grand plan.”

Well, true. In fact, it was hard to count everything.

Was it since I first left the duke? I found traces of them in the north and informed Haisen about the existence of devil worshippers.

Then I went to the empire, protected Erendil, and crushed their plan to bloom the devil’s seeds.

As a result, I revealed their identity to the continent, weeded out their agents within the empire and Haisen, and dealt with the expedition searching for Devil’s Blood.

I prevented terrorism in the empire and thwarted their plan to aim for the emperor’s throne.

I also dealt with a high-ranking executor, stole Tsukva’s Scythe, and even sent a devilish dragon to the afterlife.

Hmm. I guess I can’t say I’ve completely stolen Tsukva’s Scythe yet. But even without that, it’s still an enormous list. These were just the major incidents.

Thinking about it that way, its expression looked different. Latent anger peeked through its composure.

“I don’t understand. How do you know so much about us?”

“Well, I’m not sure myself.”

One funny thing was that even though it was a devil, it didn’t know that I was a person who had entered the game.

Honestly, I was a bit afraid too. When I encountered the devil, I wondered if it would see through my inner self.

But it wasn’t like that. Well, if it didn’t know that, it must have been bewildered. How does this guy know and thwart our plans? I couldn’t help but smile.

“Why are you laughing?”

“That’s none of your business.”

“You’ve been short with your words from the start.”

“What do you want? Do you want me to say ‘I’m sorry for interfering with you’?”

To be honest, having this conversation was a stroke of luck for me. If it had tried to kill me right after the surprise attack, I would have been a corpse long ago.

I wouldn’t have even been able to use the glowstone. While pretending to be calm and responding, I was racking my brains at full power.

Wondering if there was any way for me to survive. But no such method came to mind. Even using the glowstone would end in my death anyway.

Honestly, I’m not sure. I had some regrets too, like maybe I should have just thrown away the scythe.

I’ve been trying to survive in this world since I came here. I lived every waking moment for that goal.

Education and training go without saying. I experienced mana and even killed people.

It was hardship and experiences I had never had in my entire life. Of course, it wasn’t something I wanted to do either.

‘No matter how I think about it, there’s no other way.’

That’s why I spoke provocatively to it while racking my brains. I couldn’t see a way to survive.

How should I put it? When you give up on everything, you gain a kind of confidence.

The attachment to life is desperate, but there’s no way out. Fighting is impossible, and so is escape.

“Irreverent, ever irreverent blood. Not bowing your head before your master, you resemble Sagnat across the ages.”

Sagnat. The second time I heard that name. It was the family the emperor suspected I belonged to.

Well. Is it true?

I’m not sure if this guy is just guessing or if it knows something from seeing my blood.

Well, it doesn’t matter.

Actually, if you think about it, since Sagnat was the first Devil’s Blood-borne, I would be that person’s descendant anyway.

Now that the situation has come to this, useless thoughts keep coming to mind. Somehow the world looks different too.

It’s a moment when my life is hanging by a thread, but somehow this situation feels incredibly peaceful.

I kept involuntarily smiling. Seeing my expression, it pulled up the corners of its mouth sardonically. Of course, it wasn’t really smiling, but expressing anger.

“Kneel.”

That was its command. Instantly, the blood in my body began to react. It was Devil’s Blood manifesting.

I could tell right away because I had experienced it before.

Maybe it was trying to use the blood flowing in my body to give orders.

“You weren’t around in the founding emperor’s time, were you?”

But the manifested blood didn’t obey its will. The reacting blood grows hot.

The mana flowing in my body becomes clear, and I feel invigorated despite the hole in my side.

“Seeing how this blood listens to your words and becomes stronger, that is.”

Well, if the first Devil’s Blood had obeyed the devils, Sagnat wouldn’t have left his name in history.

That aside, I had a question.

As far as I knew, Devil’s Blood manifests based on one’s desires.

Right now, I didn’t particularly have a desire to live. There was lingering attachment, but no possibility.

Hmm. Maybe this Devil’s Blood thing also manifests when facing a devil or resisting its power.

“You!”

My thoughts couldn’t continue. It roared and charged. It was just an afterimage in an instant.

If it weren’t for Devil’s Blood, I wouldn’t have even known it had charged.

I barely managed to block with the scythe, but the impact was considerable. I flew through the air.

Before I could close and open my eyes, a shock ran through my whole body with a thud. My body slid across the ground. Something touched my back. The impact was big.

I felt leaves falling all around. When I opened my eyes, it was a different space. It was clearly a forest before, but now there was a clearing in front of me.

It seems I flew from the forest on the opposite side of the clearing, but how far did I fly? It walked out of the forest. Its eyes were full of anger, as if properly irritated by my provocation.

“I’ll summon father with your blood right here.”

Well, my blood and Tsukva’s Scythe were like a pile of treasure right in front of it.

I wondered if I should have fled even if it meant abandoning the scythe, but it was too late for regrets now.

Is this the end? I started using mana to wrap around the glowstone in my pocket.

‘Since I’m going to die anyway, what does it matter what happens afterwards.’

When I first came to this world, I vowed to do anything to survive. I’ve actually lived pretty close to that.

But being human, I still have lingering attachments. If I’m going to die anyway, it would be better to go properly to where those I’m connected to are.

In reality, if I took care of this guy, this world would become much safer.

In addition to what I’ve been doing so far, now they’ll only have one newly summoned devil left.

Erendil will soon stabilize the empire. If Tsukva’s Scythe and the devil of domination disappear, the remaining remnants will be easy to deal with.

I felt a bit resentful, like I’d cooked the meal only for the dog to eat it, but still, I should do my duty.

‘Oh no.’

When I tried to get up, strength wouldn’t enter my body. In addition to the wound in my side, the recent impact seemed quite severe.

I gripped the scythe tightly while leaning against a tree trunk. And I moved mana inconspicuously.

My throat was hot. Whether due to the recent impact or not, warm blood filled my mouth and flowed down my chin.

It was walking towards me slowly. I had no intention of showing the glowstone. It might have some method to deal with it.

‘I thought about using this to threaten it, but.’

I considered telling it to back off if neither of us wanted to die, using the glowstone as leverage. Of course, it would be meaningless.

My physical condition was at its worst, so I couldn’t escape anyway. It would only raise its guard.

Now the distance between it and me was about 30 meters. Within the blast radius, but I planned to wait.

My opponent was a devil.

I couldn’t be 100% certain that this glowstone could kill it. I’ll detonate it when it comes right in front.

I didn’t need to calculate the time precisely. Back then I was thinking about bombing, so I only slightly disrupted the flow. That’s why it took 20 seconds.

If I intervene internally, prepared to die myself, I can detonate it immediately.

Maybe because of the blood I’ve lost, my vision is gradually becoming blurry. The devil’s image appeared as two or three. I substituted my sense of distance with my winds.

20m, 15m, 10m…

It approached slowly with a sardonic smile. It seems to have taken about 20 seconds, but it felt like more than 30 minutes had passed.

This should be about right. Should I do it right in front? Maybe because of the blood loss, my thoughts weren’t connecting well.

It can’t be helped. Let’s just detonate it. Just as I was about to move my mana, it happened.

“…?”

The approaching devil suddenly turned its gaze to the sky.

-Screech!

At the same time, a high and sharp dragon’s cry echoed through the sky. At the end of my gaze following it was light.

And that light pierced through the sky in an instant, plunging towards it. The devil hastily retreated.

It was a close call. A spear stuck into the place where the devil had been. Elegant white, it was Teme’s Spear.

Raising my gaze to the sky again, two Sword Energies were crossing the sky. So, in the sky was a dragon, that is, a dragon rider.

“…Erendil? How?”
