How to Live the Life of a Demon Chapter 7 - Lucius Kendrick (7)

Author: CleiZz Editor: Aker and Kz

Before they knew it, the day had ended and the fading glow of the sunset fell on the Earth. The white exterior wall of the academy slowly turned red.

Lennox stared at the sight of dusk falling over the greenery of the garden for a moment, then looked at Lucius, who was about a step ahead.

‘Are you a new student?’

It wasn’t just because he looked beautiful.

He seemed confident and relaxed in his gait, actions, and tone of voice.

This doesn’t come from practice.

This is only possible if his confidence manifests as naturally as breathing.

The unique mysterious atmosphere was enough to attract the interest of others.

Lennox was anxious about this bright new student.

He didn’t like the idea of him getting caught up in complicated rumors while walking with him. In addition, he didn’t like getting any more attention than usual while walking alongside a new student who attracted such attention.

Lennox interrupted his enjoyment of the scenery.

“Lucius, I’m guessing you don’t know anything because you’re still a freshman…”

“If you are in beta class, how many years have you been in school?”

Just as he opened his mouth, Lucius cut Lennox off and asked.

Lennox’s eyes shook greatly at Lucius’ question.

“What do you want to know?”

How many years have I been here? Or how many years does it take to advance to beta class?

Why are you being so annoying?

Do I look strong?

Because I’m in beta class?

Or … .

Lennox frowned without realizing it. Because he couldn’t figure out the other person’s intentions.

“That’s literally it. I know that how quickly you get promoted depends on your skills. I wonder how long it took you to reach beta class.”

“It’s been 5 years now.”

Lennox did not want others to suffer because of him.

So he wanted to keep his distance from this new student.

“I want to go to the library, can you give me directions? I don’t know the way.”

“I’m busy so please excuse me.”

Lennox deliberately refused in an annoyed tone.

But at that moment.

A small murmur was heard next to him.

“Ha, looks like you’ve already found a partner.”

Lennox’s steps naturally stopped because of one word.

His eyes landed on the tie.

Three red diagonal lines. Proof that he’s a new student.

‘Does this mean you’re interested in partnering with me?’

Lennox’s mind became confused.

Anyway, if you attend Cyrus, a partner is essential.

In that case, the new student in front of him is not a bad choice.

“Can I ask what you mean?”

“Before that, I think I asked you to show me around the library?”

Lucius raised the corners of his mouth and asked back.

The eyes of the two people clashed, but in the end, one person had no choice but to give in.

“Follow me. I’ll guide you.”

Lennox began to lead the way to the library.

There were so many books lined up in the library that it was hard to fathom how many there were at a glance. Considering that many books had been lost due to the numerous conflicts and wars that had occurred in the Demon World, the collection was quite large.

Lucius looked very satisfied as he looked around the bookshelves.

“It’s pretty good. I can find a lot of good books.”

Lucius’s mood visibly softened, with a subtle smile on his lips.

Lennox quietly observed the scene.

‘He seems like a completely different demon.’

Just a moment ago, he looked like an old snake, but now he looked like an ordinary student.

‘What? What is this sense of discomfort?’

Lennox, who was in the lead in the library, suddenly felt strange.

As he looked around, he saw several students whispering around him.

However, only fear and contempt were visible in their eyes, and there was no wonder or curiosity.

He suddenly realized the identity of this discomfort.

No one talks about Lucius.

He clearly has a great presence both in appearance and aura, even when he is next to him.

“Thank you. Now I want to go to the gym, can you guide me there?”

Lennox quietly looked at Lucius, who was smiling peacefully.

Only then did he realize that Lucius’ presence was very faint.

Lennox bit his lip.

Lucius has this much skill, but can’t he hear the people next to him whispering about Lennox?

No way. He’s pretending he doesn’t know.

If he knew everything, why did he bring up the topic about his partner? Was this an intentional approach from the beginning?

For what reason?

His mind became complicated. For whatever reason, the feeling wasn’t very pleasant.

“I have to go back.”

“Why all of a sudden?”

Lucius asked naturally with an innocent expression.

“… I’m going to go.”

“Okay, shall we stop here for today? Thank you for the guidance.”

Contrary to his expectation, Lucius easily let go of Lennox.

Although the words ‘today’ did bother him a bit, he quickly turned away.

Lucius’ gaze on his back was extremely stinging, but Lennox felt like he shouldn’t turn back.

Meanwhile, Lucius was organizing step by step what he had observed about Lennox today.

‘Of all the students I’ve seen so far, his skills are the most worthy of attention.’

Lucius went to the library and used the reagent made from Sechu stem again.

Lucius wanted to check the level of other students as he moved around, and he didn’t want to cause a fuss by getting involved with Lennox, who had not yet been selected as a partner.

And more than anything, he was curious about how Lennox would react to the reagent.

The results were quite satisfactory.

It seemed like he couldn’t figure out the cause, but at some point Lennox felt uncomfortable and began to have doubts.

‘Not only do you have good senses, but you also have good observation skills. He’s quick to judge the situation.’

Lennox’s expression and tone were very blunt and sharp, but they were not rude or disrespectful.

Even though it may have been sudden, he gained more than he lost considering that he was guided to the library as he requested.

“It doesn’t seem like he would intentionally kill his partner.”

The information received from the academy did not detail the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Lucius tried to investigate separately, but it was difficult to obtain meaningful information because there were no students who really knew about the matter.

“I’ll have to wait and see.”

He needed to hear the whole story from Lennox himself, not from research data or rumors.

He was also curious about what kind of thoughts and actions he had been taking until now.

In any case, the bad rumors that followed Lennox could be an opportunity.

Lucius decided to take advantage of the rumors.

* * *

Arnold, who was in charge of Epsilon’s fourth class, was lost in thought as he leaned against the wall in the Gamma Class hallway.

He heard from the dean that the level of Epsilon this year was higher than previous years.

That was the reason why he was put in charge of Epsilon rather than Alpha.

However, whenever the Gustav Festival was held, the dean would make a special comment, saying that the students’ abilities were high, so they would expect good grades.

But the result was always the same.

Third place.

The other academies such as Kiara and Aaron were a wall that could not be overcome.

Torben academy is an exception as it is focused on research.

Therefore, Arnold did not have high expectations from these students.

One reason was that they did not want to burden the children with the petty circumstances of adults, whether it was a festival or a performance.

However, there was one student who completely derailed Arnold’s thoughts.

“Lucius Kendrick.”

When he received the list of incoming students in advance, there was one student who particularly stood out.

It was Lucius.

The reason why Lucius stood out when he first saw the list was simply because it was the same as the name of Fifth Elder.

Damn it, he lost his spot in the top 100 less than 30 minutes after achieving it.

It was because of the birth of a new elder.

At that time, he was curious about the new elder and requested an investigation through various information sources.

There were limits to the investigation because the Demon King had issued a silence order, but they were able to obtain the name of the Fifth Elder and the information that he was the person responsible for subduing the Thousand Year Demon Beast eight years ago.

‘If you are a demon who can suppress the ferocity of Ephialtes, it is natural to become an elder.’

After Arnold heard that story, he stopped researching the Fifth Elder. At the same time, he was convinced that his skill level was originally ranked 101st.

He was a student who had the same name, but he thought Lucius, who he saw in person, far exceeded the level of the other students.

In order not to be discovered by Lugain, Lucius approached with perfect student-level stealth skills and gradually relaxed his energy.

It’s as if he’s testing how quickly Lugain notices him.

As Lugain felt the gaze and looked around, Lucius naturally concealed himself in the crowd, which impressed Arnold.

While Arnold played along as Vince, Lugain blamed his guard being down on his mood.

“Could he be the Fifth Elder?”

Arnold thought so for a while.

“That can’t be possible.”

Since it was an absurd guess, he was able to quickly shake it off.

Did a dryad, who was known to be weak, rise to the rank of elder? If that were really the case, there would have been a lot of rumors in the demon world.

“It’ll be soon.”

The corners of his eyes were squinted from the sunlight coming in at an angle.

The sun had set and before he knew it, it was time for the bell to ring.

So far, only 3 out of 20 students had found him and submitted their assignments.

Whether a student found a partner or not, they had to come to him and submit the assignment.

Arnold was very curious about Lucius’ results.

“Hello, Mr. Arnold.”

Arnold slowly turned around when he heard a voice coming from behind him.

“I came to submit my assignment.”

A person who has been causing him distress.

It was Lucius.

“How did you find me?”

“I didn’t think you would give the freshmen a difficult task from the first day. So I looked for you here because I thought you would be near the class.”

It seemed like a smooth answer at first glance, but it didn’t sound like that to Arnold, so he furrowed his brow.

“Good. Change the question. How did you know this body was me? I look like a student right now?”

Lucius must have realized that he was asking again because he was suspicious, but he remained calm.

“The shadows were short. Doppelgangers change their appearance using shadows. That’s why your shadow is shorter than others.”

There are no gaps.

It was such an exemplary and standard answer that even Arnold found it difficult to refute.

However, something felt uncomfortable.

“It’s amazing that you figured it out in such a short amount of time.”

“I was lucky.”

Despite Lucius’ bright smile, Arnold’s frown did not straighten.

Clearly, Lucius only stayed at that place for a short time, and his goal was not Arnold, but Lugain.

But, Lucius even sensed his presence in that short period of time?

“Teacher, I would like to submit my assignment now.”

Lucius held out the paper once again.

There is not much time left before the bell rings.

In other words, if Arnold does not take his paper, he does not submit it on time.

But Arnold still continued the conversation without receiving the paper.

“Didn’t you find a partner?”

There were only two signatures on the paper: Rayel and Kian.

Arnold’s expression changed as he checked the empty partner signature line.

Considering Lucius’ skill and keen eye, it would be rare for someone to turn down an offer to be his partner.

“Is there a problem? The rules say you don’t necessarily have to get one.”

“It’s not like that. However, it is best to find a partner yourself. Temporary partners are assigned anyway. I will try to find the right person first.”

Who deserves it?

It must be someone who matches Lucius’ talent to some degree.

“Then, can I please specify the person I have in mind?”

“Hmm? What does that mean? You have someone in mind, but why didn’t you get your partner’s signature?”

“He was a bit difficult to approach.”

Arnold shook his head.

So, it seems they declined his offer.

If that’s the case, it must be a challenging issue, even for someone like Lucius.

“Even if I am a teacher, I cannot force it. Unless the other person wants it. First, I want to hear who it is.”

“It’s Lennox.”

“… Who?”

“Lennox from the beta class. I want to have him as my partner.”
