It had been a godsend to have Jaeho’s experimental tools.

Yeon-young let out a long sigh of relief as she dragged her tired legs.

She’d pulled out the eraser in an attempt to hold on to, but she hadn’t expected it to work so well.

As she disappeared into the darkness, the Snarls panicked and failed to follow. The experimental tool had worked on the Snarls.

“Where are you?”

She had gotten away from the Snarl, but she was completely lost.

Jung Jaeho, who had told her not to let go of his hand, was nowhere to be seen.

She realized that it would be best to hide somewhere until the eraser wore off, or until the fog lifted.

“I don’t know the way at all.”

The energy was so toxic that it made her eyes sting.

Yeon-young closed her eyes and pressed her hands over them, searching for a way out.

She could see things more clearly with her eyes closed than with them open.

With her eyes closed, she could see colorful goblin fires in the distance ahead of her.

Just by looking at them, she felt a warm glow and her agitated mind gradually calmed down.

She focused on the colored fires. It was so different from the black aura that surrounded Robillo.

She didn’t have long to think about it.

“Okay, let’s go there.”

Using the eraser, Yeon-young erased her traces once more and walked towards the fire.

At first, she couldn’t see the fire from a distance.

But the further she walked, the more she felt a familiar sensation from the ghost fire.

It was a core of spirits. The multicolored cores meant that the spirits of Robillo Village were there.

After confirming that everyone was safe, Yeon-young relaxed.

“I don’t see Ryu Won.”

After scanning the lights of the cores for a while, Yeon-young felt puzzled: she couldn’t find him among the many cores.

She tried to calm her nerves and walked toward the center of the cores.

As she followed the light, she saw a high wall in front of her.

There was no visible entrance, but all the spirits seemed to be inside.

Yeon-young cautiously reached out and touched the wall lightly. The wall didn’t budge.

As she pressed her hand lightly against the unevenness, she muttered to herself.

“There has to be another way…”

No matter how she looked at the wall, she couldn’t see any way in.

She pressed her ear to the wall. She could hear the faintest sounds of the spirits inside.

There were definitely spirits in here.

“Kaaak!”

“Hmph.”

Then a piercing scream echoed from within the wall. Yeon-young, who had her ear pressed against the wall, was startled and moved away.

A short, one-word scream followed by a vibration within the wall.

Realizing something unusual had happened, Yeon-young knocked on the wall.

The colorful cores scattered in all directions as if fleeing something.

BANG!

There was another, louder vibration. And before she could figure out what was happening, a small section of the wall cracked.

Black smoke escaped through the cracks. It was big enough for her to crawl through if she wanted to.

Yeon-young bent down on her knees and peered through the hole in the wall.

“Snarl.”

A hideous deformed Snarl could be seen through the hole. It lurched forward to devour the souls that hadn’t yet escaped.

Through the hole, she could see Pawn flailing about on the ground with its legs attached.

Its legs were blackened, as if it had already been attacked by Snarl.

“He’s being Snarled, I need to get him out of there.”

She bit her lip and rolled her eyes at the urgency of the situation. If she was going to save Pawn, she needed to assess the situation correctly.

Concentrating, she checked the number of Snarls on the wall.

There was only one.

Pawn was biting his lip tightly, holding back the pain, and the Snarl standing before him was measuring the angle to devour him.

Yeon-young stepped quietly into the hole. The eraser’s effectiveness was such that Snarl didn’t even notice her.

“This is getting out of control.”

She wondered if it was a Snarl that could be purified with Sly’s powder, but it seemed to have already lost itself.

Yeon-Young aimed the gun at the Snarl’s right ankle, where the core was. She released the safety and pulled the trigger.

BANG!

The bullet landed squarely in the core. Snarl let out a grisly groan and disappeared without a trace.

Pawn looked around fiercely, even as his face crumpled in pain.

“Mr. Pawn!”

“I have blocked the entrance…. How did you get in here?”

Pawn’s eyelashes, red as a sunset, fluttered. He looked puzzled.

Yeon-young squatted down in front of him, carefully examining the condition of his leg.

“Where are the others? Are they okay?”

“We gathered here because it’s a refuge, but suddenly Snarl… I’m sure they’re all okay.”

“Except for Mr. Ryu Won.”

“Who’s that?”

“Oh, Ophir.”

“He’s…”

Pawn, who had been answering YeonYoung’s questions one after another, stopped talking, sensing something was wrong.

He realized that he hadn’t heard the answer to his question yet.

Pawn furrowed his brow and stared at Yeon-young.

“Why don’t you answer my questions? You spoiled little thing.”

“Drink.”

Unfazed by Pawn’s accusation, Yeon-young pulled a potion made from Sly’s powder from her pocket.

She unscrewed the cap and held it out in front of him.

Pawn shot her a suspicious glance and shoved the bottle toward her.

“I don’t want to drink it, get out of here.”

“You need to recover.”

Her rabbit-like eyes didn’t flinch at his rough behavior.

She pushed the potion closer and closer to Pawn’s face.

The potion passed back and forth.

Finally, it was Pawn who raised the white flag. He drank the potion, unable to break Yeon-young’s upright stance.

“What is this?”

“A potion made from Sly’s powder.”

“Is that even available these days?”

His pale complexion gradually improved. His legs also returned to their normal color as the blackness slowly faded away.

Satisfied that the situation was under control, Yeon-young looked inside the walls. True to its name, the shelter was a maze of rooms.

“Where did Ryu-, or rather, Mr. Ophir, say he went?”

“He went out to deal with the Snarls. He’ll know how to get in, and he’ll come when the time is right.”

Yeon-young fastened her bracelet with her hand, remembering the last time she had seen Ryu Won before they parted.

She was disoriented by the speed with which the black smoke had covered the village and the Snarls popping out of the ground.

“How did you get in? I don’t feel a thing.”

“Through the hole. The wall is broken.”

Yeon-young pointed to the entrance with her hand.

BANG!

The space where Pawn and Yeon-young were standing shook as if it were about to collapse. It felt like someone had artificially created the vibrations.

He quickly assessed the situation and looked for a way out. Pawn gestured in her direction.

But Yeon-young had already found another way, going deeper into the room.

“Hey! Why don’t you come back here? We have to get out now, you bastard!”

“I can’t! The other spirits are in danger, another Snarl has invaded.”

“You get out, I’ll go.”

It may not have been visible to Pawn’s eyes, but it was clear to Yeon-young’s. Several black cores and the colored lights attacking them.

Other Robillo spirits must be engaged in a battle with Snarl.

It would take a lot of time for the blind Pawn to find its way.

“Then we’re late.”

With that, Yeon-young ignored Pawn’s words and ran.

Frozen in place by her words, Pawn’s eyes widened, and he followed her.

Once they were deep enough to block out the light from the outside world, the stale air rushed back into their nostrils.

“One…, two, three…, four…, five… There are at least five Snarls.”

“You…”

Pawn made an odd face when he heard the number of Snarls. He looked more intrigued than worried by the situation.

Yeon-young put her hand on her belt and asked.

“Why are you looking at me like that? Do you want a gun or something?”

“I don’t need a gun.”

“Then go inside…”

Pawn didn’t bother to stop her this time, pulling Yeon-young’s uniform closer to him.

How such strength came from such a small body.

Yeon-young was pushed behind him. Pawn jerked its head in the direction of the black core.

He could see the spirits of the town of Robillo scattered into the other burrows.

They had picked up weapons from somewhere and were pounding away at the Snarl without extinguishing it.

“Bastards with rotten minds.”

“Ew, you bastards! That’s what you do with the souls the goddess gave you?”

“Hit me some more, eh? Eat, you bastards.”

Hearing the platitudes that accompanied the assault eased the tension in her shoulders. She wondered if she’d been too stubborn.

One by one, the village spirits consumed the Snarl. The Snarl turned to black ash and scattered.

It was only then, as it lay motionless on the ground, that Pawn caught its eye.

With a bizarre shriek, Snarl charged the unwary Pawn with great speed.

“Mr.Pawn, look out!”

It was faster for Snarl to attack Pawn than for Pawn to recognize Snarl.

Without realizing it, Yeon-young hugged Pawn’s head tightly. Pawn, who had the size of a small child, buried himself in her arms.

“Hey!”

Pawn’s short exclamation was accompanied by Snarl’s hand on Yeon-young’s head.

“Ugh!”

The crown of her head tingled and ached as if through static electricity.

Yeon-young opened her eyes slightly.

The spirits of Robillo were all wide-eyed and startled.

She pushed herself up and checked her hands, feet, and body. Nothing was wrong.

But why did they all look so surprised?

In front of her was the Snarl, whose hand had turned white after touching Yeon-Young.
