I Became The Wife Of The Cursed Grand Duke Chapter 108
“Yes, speak!”
Viktor shouted as he tore the neck and torso of the swarming skeleton apart in his merciless hands.
“Look up!”
Evelyn squinted at the ceiling; her eyes accustomed to the darkness.
A Nightmare, a mummy that feeds on human fear to grow in evil power, was fluttering through the air.
“That’s not a normal mummy.”
They’re basically weak attackers, but they’re incredibly annoying.
They wield huge axes and maces and have the mobility to float like ghosts.
The only saving grace is that, being undead, they are extremely weak to light.
“Do you want me to cover you?”
Evelyn, who understood the meaning immediately, took Viktor’s nod as a cue to unleash the offensive magic she had been practicing.
Pot, pajik-!
A beam of light stretched out from her hand, illuminating her vision in the darkness.
The holy bolts and sparks struck the Nightmare, and in a flash of light, it vanished without a trace.
The knights were able to focus a little better on the situation in front of them.
But despite their best efforts to blast the creatures away, the onslaught continued.
“Hmph, hmph…”
Wielding magic takes a lot of mental and physical energy.
Add to that the tension and physical limitations, and her breathing became increasingly ragged.
To prove it, blood began to trickle from Evelyn’s nose and mouth.
She couldn’t tell if it was her calmness disturbed by witnessing Dante’s death or if she had overdosed on her healing powers.
Her vision blurred.
“No, wake up!”
Behind her, Johansen’s people, including children and the elderly, cowered.
She strained her eyes, trying to stay awake.
[Giggles. Gotcha!]
Evelyn’s vision shifts in an instant as she hears someone whisper.
.
.
.
“What the hell is this… place?”
She was in the banquet hall just a moment ago, but now there were no people around her.
She closed and opened her eyes once, startled by someone’s whisper.
How could she just teleport somewhere without any warning, without realizing it?
‘Yes, maybe it’s an illusion. Like in the tabernacle.’
Perhaps there was a demon that distracted him.
‘Then I need to wake up even faster!’
Evelyn looked around urgently.
She was now standing at the end of a long corridor with an eerie atmosphere.
“Wait, I’ve seen this place before…?”
Evelyn looked around, and from her past life’s experience, she recognized the place she was standing in as Bellatra Dungeon.
“How could this be, traveling from the north to the south end of the world?”
She doesn’t know if this is a mere illusion or a trick of someone’s, but the original Bellatra Dungeon, despite its name as a dungeon, changes the terrain of the field and the monsters that appear each time.
This unpredictability caused Kalian to struggle whenever the time came for the dungeon to be cleansed.
The penalty for this is that you have to clear every floor of the dungeon from the night of the red moon until dawn the next day.
The only saving grace was that the corridor in front of her was familiar.
It was the second floor of the Dollhouse, a dungeon she’d defeated in her previous life.
The strategy is simple.
Search the rooms lining the long hallway to find and purify the dolls that want to take over a human body.
The problem is that each room is infested with demons, and the number of rooms is staggering.
“A doll that wants to take over a human body, that sounds like my situation.”
Evelyn recalled a familiar voice that had whispered in her ear just before she was transported to this place.
[Giggles. Gotcha!]
It was a voice she had heard in a dream once before.
As the black mass transformed into her form, it whispered…
“Did it mean that it was looking for my body?”
Evelyn felt like she finally understood the meaning of the dream.
“The women of the Lindbergh family are destined to regenerate someone, and the one with the largest vessel must sacrifice one hundred Primal Stones and give her body to the resurrected creature.”
If the largest vessel is referring to her, then there is a creature that needs to be resurrected with 100 Primal Stones.
“So… what the hell was it that brought me here?”
The number of women she’d seen in the temple’s processing chamber was around ten.
And from what Kalian had told her, all of Iblis’s horns had been destroyed.
With no medium to separate body and soul, there was no way they could have completed a hundred Primal Stones in such a short period of time.
“Is this how they plan to keep me imprisoned?”
Her speculation gradually turned to conviction as he remembered the High Priest’s words that all they needed to do was destroy the holy object and steal the girl who would be the final vessel.
It was then.
[Hide, hide, hide, I can see your hair].
A creepy voice came from somewhere.
“What, according to the original strategy, I’m supposed to find the doll?”
After being given a second chance at life, she had countless indescribable experiences.
However, no matter how much she got used to it, she couldn’t help but feel scared and shiver every time she encountered such phenomena.
“Whoa…”
As she took deep breaths to steady her rapidly beating heart, the voice calling for her grew closer and closer.
[Hee hee hee, if you don’t want to be torn to shreds, hide, hide!]
The shrill voice pierced her eardrums.
At the same time, a faint fog gathered inside the mansion.
‘There must be a lot of demons in this room, where the hell am I supposed to hide!’
Evelyn’s mind raced, and she quickened her pace.
But a sudden headache seized her by the ankles.
“Ugh!”
Evelyn dropped to her knees and wrapped her hands around her head.
“It feels like someone’s squeezing my head…”
Her heart raced and a cold sweat broke out.
All the while, something unidentifiable continued to search for her.
*Rustle, rustle, rustle! *
[Hehe, nothing?]
To make matters worse, puddles of blood began to form everywhere, from which the mysterious creature crawled out.
[Kweh!]
‘What the hell is that?’
She thought she was going to lose her mind.
‘Get your shit together and move! Come on!’
But Evelyn couldn’t move, her feet felt as heavy as if they were weights.
Meanwhile, a trickling puddle of blood soaked her pure white dress, engulfing her lower half.
‘At this rate, I’m going to get stuck.’
Evelyn unleashed an attack spell on the approaching creature.
Luckily, the light quickly shattered the creature, but the blood that threatened to consume her was still flowing.
“What the hell am I supposed to do!”
She bit her lip in despair.
A snap!
She heard a low gurgle and a snap of fingers, and then a strange sensation as if the air had stopped.
“Shh!”
Then someone stuck their arm between Evelyn’s armpits and yanked her out of the pool of blood.
Before she had time to ask who it was, Evelyn was swallowed up like she was being sucked through a doorway down the hall.
* * *
Meanwhile, that time.
Kalian, unfazed by the unusual appearance of the gate, unleashed a strong dark sword aura to clear the area around him.
[Grunt, grunt!]
“Tough bastards.”
However, no matter how powerful he was, he couldn’t instantly extinguish the undead-type demons.
There were simply too many of them for him to handle alone.
“We need to pacify them before we can close the gate.”
The undead crawled around like they didn’t even know they were dead.
As Kalian pondered this, he looked around frantically for Evelyn.
Her light powers seemed to help.
“Evelyn…!”
Calling out to Evelyn, Kalian froze.
She had suddenly vanished before his eyes.
And Kalian knew instinctively that she was trapped in the gate.
Whooooooo-!
“Your Highness, the gate is vanishing!”
“Whoa, thank goodness… Your Highness, what are you doing…”
At the same time as she evaporated, the gate lost its power and began to close.
Kalian knew instinctively that only by entering the gate could he save her.
“Your Majesty!”
There was no time to think.
Kalian leapt into the swirling pool of blood, ignoring Benjamin’s call.
.
.
.
Shoot!
His body, tossed aimlessly by the red waves like a wrecked ship adrift in a doomed ocean, sank slowly for a moment.
Dazed. Barely regaining consciousness, he shook his dizzy head and opened his eyes.
But no matter how he looked around, he saw nothing but darkness. It was as if he had fallen into a different dimension from Evelyn.
‘Evelyn, where am I?’
He muttered to himself, unable to move his mouth, when a familiar voice echoed across the vast space.
[Kyle, it’s me].
It wasn’t the voice he’d been waiting for.
It was unmistakably Daphne’s voice, the one that had appeared in his dream a few nights earlier, crying desperately.
‘Why are you suddenly here…?’
He followed the voice, and slowly his vision cleared.
It was a familiar place.
He was in the cabin where he had taken Daphne and fled with her after refusing the oracle, in the distant past.
For a moment, he panicked.
He caught sight of Daphne’s backside through a small window, walking away, and followed her.
Wha-
Daphne’s voice came from a short distance away, the humid mist enveloping her body.
[You promised to bring me back to life, and even if you failed, you would remember me forever…]
Her voice was tinged with emotion, whether it was resentment or sadness. She sighed and shook her head.
[But you didn’t.]
