Now This Family Belongs to My Mother Chapter 110
“Count, hurry and get in.” The person inside the carriage spoke. His face was concealed by a mask.
“W-Who are you…!”
It was then that Gale noticed the crest of Marquis Mateng’s family embroidered on the masked figure’s clothing. Marquis Mateng must have viewed the marriage proposal I sent positively! That’s why he sent someone to help me! Thinking that, he hurriedly climbed into the carriage.
The carriage, now carrying Gale, sped off in a hurry. Only then did Gale let out a sigh of relief.
“Count, are you alright?”
“Do I look alright to you, you fool!” Gale snapped angrily, true to his temper.
“My apologies. I wanted to come sooner, but my master had to wait for the right moment.” The masked figure replied politely. Only then did Gale realize that the man was a close aide of Marquis Mateng.
“Well, I guess that could be the case,” Gale spoke as if he were being generous.
The carriage soon stopped in front of some kind of door. Gale stepped out of the carriage and looked around. The place felt oddly familiar. “Where is this…?”
“We might get caught, so please hurry inside.”
The close aide of Marquis Mateng urgently pushed Gale through the door. Behind the door was a dark passageway. It seemed to be the path leading to a hideout.
“Please go ahead. The inside is a safe place.”
The aide, holding a lantern, led Gale forward. After walking for quite a while, they finally saw light at the end of the passage.
“By any chance, is Marquis Mateng waiting in this hideout as well?”
“…”
“If he’s planning to come later, please let him know that I am deeply grateful. And, if it’s not too much trouble, I would appreciate it if he could help me reclaim my position as soon as possible…”
It was then that Gale heard a mocking laugh from behind him.
“I think you might be misunderstanding something. Marquis Mateng isn’t coming.”
“What? Then how are we supposed to proceed with the plan?”
“Well, why don’t you ask Marquis Mateng directly? If that’s even possible, that is.” His tone was as if he were speaking about someone else’s business.
A sense of unease spread through Gale’s heart. “What are you talking about? Aren’t you one of Marquis Mateng’s people? Why are you being so indifferent…!” He demanded in a trembling voice.
“I never said I was from Marquis Mateng’s household, did I?” He responded with a mocking smirk, as if to say Gale was free to misunderstand all he wanted.
“W-What did you just say?”
At that moment, the person behind him pressed close to Gale’s back. “If you were planning to kill someone, you should be paying a price, not asking for help.”
“!”
The cold whisper sent chills down Gale’s neck.
“N-No way, y-you’re the one who’s been blackmailing me all this time…”
Then the figure behind shoved Gale forcefully into the light.
“Ugh!” With a short scream, Gale was thrown somewhere. Behind him, he heard the sound of a door closing and locking. “N-No! Open the door!”
Banging on the locked door, Gale suddenly felt something strange and looked around. The place he had been thrown into was a long, wide space bathed in dim light. The ceiling was high, and thick curtains hung at both ends of the room.
“What the? Where am I?”
It was when Gale was just about to get up and open the curtains.
“I’ll check one more time and come back.”
A familiar voice came from the other side.
“It’s fine. I’ll go check by myself, so just rest.”
This voice… Epirosa? Gale’s eyes widened as if they were about to pop out.
Soon, Epirosa leisurely walked out from the other side, her figure reflected in his dilated pupils.
Was it Epirosa who brought me here?
The voice that had whispered behind his back came to mind.
“If you were planning to kill someone, you should be paying a price, not asking for help.”
That’s it! It has to be Epirosa’s doing! From the button to the clothes, and even the kidnapping! That vile Epirosa was definitely trying to torment him again. As Gale’s face turned red with anger, it happened.
“Uncle?” Epirosa, who had been walking toward him, seemed to notice Gale and stopped in her tracks. Her face was innocent, as if she knew nothing at all. “Why are you here? No, how did you even get here? You need to leave right now. This place is—”
“You wretched b*tch!” Gale, consumed by rage, lunged at Epirosa.
Startled, Epirosa fell backward before Gale could even touch her. At the same time, something fell from Epirosa. It was the button Gale had lost on the day he tried to kill Epirosa.
“Y-You… had this all along!” Gale’s face twisted into a grotesque expression of fury.
Epirosa looked up at him, her face pale with fear. “T-This was sent to me anonymously today.”
“Anonymously? Someone sent you my button? The one I lost on the day I tried to kill you? Do you even hear how ridiculous that sounds?”
“Uncle tried to kill me?” Epirosa’s face turned ghostly white. Her reaction only seemed to mock him further.
Gale’s eyes spun with madness. “You brought me here, didn’t you? Just to blackmail me again!”
“Blackmail…?”
“But I’m done letting you toy with me today!” Gale snatched up the button and swallowed it whole.
Epirosa stared at him in horror, her eyes wide with disbelief.
“With no evidence and no witnesses, there’s nothing left to hold me back.” Gale, his eyes glinting with insanity, approached the fallen Epirosa. “If you, the one everyone placed their hopes on, disappear, Father will cancel sending me to Hepas! There’ll be no one left worthy of becoming heir except me!” He then reached out his hand toward Epirosa.
Epirosa hurriedly grabbed both of Gale’s arms. “E-Even if I die, my mother is still alive! So please, don’t do something foolish…”
“Haha! Are you talking about your insane mother? But did you know this?”
Gale tightened his grip on Epirosa’s hands. She then let out a painful scream.
“I’m the one who drove your mother insane! Hahaha!” Gale finally grabbed Epirosa’s neck with both hands. Just as he, laughing like a madman, was about to apply force to his hands—
Clatter. The sound of something massive moving echoed. Gale looked up. The dazzling light of a chandelier shone down on the face of the cruel murderer. The sudden brightness made him squint. Then, the sound of waves crashing reached his ears. The sound of countless droplets colliding made Gale open his eyes wide. As he gradually adjusted to the bright light, his face twisted in shock.
“T-This can’t be!”
“Oh my god, what should we do!”
It wasn’t the sound of waves. It was the sound of countless tongues clashing. The sound of countless spectators whispering all at once.
H-How did this happen…?
“Gale Hubert is trying to kill someone!”
“Drag that b*stard out of there!”
The sudden shouts snapped Gale back to his senses. A sea of spectators stretched out before his eyes. Curtains drawn open on both sides. And the all-too-familiar interior of a theater.
This is… the Blanche Theater! The door he had rushed through was the rarely used back entrance of the Blanche Theater. And that back door led directly onto the stage!
In other words, this was a meticulously planned setup. On that stage, Gale had confessed to trying to kill Epirosa and had attempted to kill her again! The moment he realized this, his eyes locked with someone else’s. Eyes burning with murderous intent, red and piercing. It was none other than Hubert Blanche.
“Uh, uuaah!”
Gale’s hands, which had been strangling Epirosa, faltered. He then stumbled backward. The theater staff, who had rushed onto the stage, grabbed hold of him.
“N-No! Let me go!”
Dragged away by the staff, Gale was met with the audience’s disgusted gazes.
“To think he tried to kill his nephew twice!”
“And even driving his younger sister insane.”
“He’s a cruel and stupid b*stard! Unable to control his temper, he confessed in front of all these people!”
As he disappeared, Britlyn hurried over and helped Epirosa up. “Milady, are you alright? Let’s get you inside.”
“Wait.” Before stepping backstage, Epirosa turned to the audience and addressed them. “I apologize for causing a disturbance. The play we intended to show before the opera must unfortunately be canceled. However, the opera will proceed as scheduled, so please enjoy yourselves.” Despite the chaos, she spoke calmly. The audience responded with applause.
Leaving the applause behind, Epirosa descended from the stage. She whispered to Britlyn. “Keep Gale restrained, and when the opera ends and the audience begins leaving, hand him over to the public security soldiers.”
“So he’ll be dragged away by soldiers, tightly bound, in front of everyone?”
Epirosa nodded. The surprise play I prepared has successfully come to an end. As if she had never been frightened at all, she smiled with deep satisfaction.
