The Prince Seduces Me with His Body Chapter 129
“Your Highness, I apologize for disturbing you. Viscount Sudsfield is here to see you.”
Diana flinched at the sudden knock and then let out a small sigh. He has made up his mind.
Since Rebecca had already cut ties with Millard, Viscount Sudsfield had no reason to continue supporting her. However, it’s always best to have certainty in all matters. It was a relief that the viscount had decided to support Kayden.
“I’ll be out… ugh.”
As Diana tried to get up, a gentle hand pressed her back onto the pillow. When she looked up, blinking her blue-violet eyes, she saw Kayden’s face. Smiling, he patted her shoulder.
“I’ll go out. You should rest.”
“But…”
“You’re exhausted.”
Though he was the cause of that exhaustion, Diana didn’t bother to point it out. It was true that her entire body ached and felt heavy, making it hard to move. Eventually, Diana let out a sigh and relaxed. Leaning deeply into the pillow, she grabbed his hand resting on her shoulder.
“…You’ll tell me what happens, right?”
“Of course.” Kayden kissed her forehead and left the room.
Once he was gone, silence engulfed the room. For some reason, the space next to her felt unbearably cold. I’m so hopeless…
It hadn’t been long since she and Kayden had started spending so much time together. Was it really possible to feel this empty just because he had left the room for a moment? Diana chuckled softly at her own state, feeling her eyelids grow heavier.
“Sleepy…”
Just as she was about to drift into sleep, her body completely relaxed, she heard a small beeping sound. Ppiik! Ppik!
“…Huh?”
A faint tug on her hair pulled her from the edge of sleep, and she frowned in annoyance. Opening her eyes wide, she spotted a small black sphere on the bed, pulling at her pink hair. It was one of the creatures she had ordered to monitor the palace’s movements.
“Hillasa?”
Ppiiiik! Hillasa let out a sharp sound and jumped up and down on the bed as if irritated.
Diana quickly transferred a chunk of her mana to Hillasa and asked, “What’s wrong?”
But Hillasa, unusually, ignored the mana and placed both its hands on the tip of Diana’s finger. The things Hillasa had seen and heard flowed directly into Diana’s mind.
“…Ha! Get a hold of yourself!”
“How could this be….!”
“Right now… we need to…”
Diana gasped and instinctively pulled her hand back. The shock made her entire body stiffen.
Ppiiik! Hillasa trembled, pulling at the hem of Diana’s clothes to get her to move.
Shaken back to her senses, Diana jumped out of bed. It was fortunate, perhaps, that Viscount Sudsfield’s visit had caused Bella to dismiss the other servants, leaving her free to act.
“Bella! Mizel!”
Diana flung open the door to the adjacent room without knocking. It was the room Bella used when staying in the palace.
“Your Highness?”
“Guild Master?”
Bella and Mizel, who had been disguised as a servant, looked at her in confusion. The moment they saw the serious expression on Diana’s face, their own faces hardened.
Diana spoke rapidly with an uncharacteristically cold expression. “Both of you, gather any important documents or items from the Third Prince’s palace. Bring them to the parlor immediately.”
“Huh?”
“What is—”
“Hurry. There’s no time. I’ll explain on the way.”
Leaving those words, Diana swiftly turned and ran to the parlor. The hem of her light indoor dress and shawl rippled as she moved. A quick glance out the window showed a group of people approaching from a distance.
Already…!
Diana gritted her teeth, her blue-violet eyes filled with determination. She threw open the door to the parlor. Kayden and Viscount Sudsfield, seated on the sofa with a table between them, turned in surprise.
“Diana? Why aren’t you resting?” Kayden frowned in confusion.
Without a moment to spare, Diana spoke urgently. “Kayden, you need to flee.”
“What are you…”
“The emperor has been poisoned. It’s the same poison that affected Prince Elliot, and Duke Findlay is claiming that you, the one who discovered the poison, is the culprit.”
“…What?”
Both Kayden and Viscount Sudsfield jumped to their feet, their faces filled with shock. Their expressions mirrored how Diana had felt when she first heard the news through Hillasa.
“Guild Master!”
Just then, the sound of Bella and Mizel rushing in could be heard from behind. They, too, looked pale, having seen the commotion outside through the window.
“The First Prince and his wife are out there with soldiers. But what is this…”
“Is it true? Has the emperor really…”
Mizel bit her lip in frustration. She was the vice guild master of Wings, one of the most renowned information guilds in the empire. But even Wings couldn’t deliver news as quickly as Hillasa, who relayed the situation the moment it happened.
Diana looked around at the others with a grim expression. “We know that the poisoning of Prince Elliot was the duke’s doing, but others don’t. The accusation is too plausible…” Her voice wavered with guilt. If she had been able to reveal that her dark elemental attributes were what had allowed her to detect the poison, things wouldn’t have become so complicated.
At that moment, Kayden gripped her shoulders. Startled, Diana looked up into his steady eyes as he spoke.
“Diana. This isn’t your fault.”
“…”
“So don’t blame yourself. I’m truly grateful to you for saving my brother’s life.”
Kayden smiled slightly at the end of his words. Diana gave him a faint smile in return, unable to help it.
Kayden’s mind was racing. “If they’re claiming I’m guilty so quickly, they’ve probably already planted the poison somewhere in this palace. I won’t be executed with the empress and my brother supporting me, but if I’m caught now, it will be harder to uncover evidence before the duke covers his tracks…”
“Yes. So, we need to escape for now and gather evidence proving the duke’s guilt as quickly as possible. But where should we go…” Diana bit her lip in anxiety. She briefly considered fleeing to the Wings headquarters, but… There are too many eyes there. The guards come and go frequently…
The area around the Wings headquarters was notorious for criminal activity, but if a fugitive wanted by the imperial palace showed up there, there was no way the criminals would stay quiet. They needed somewhere with fewer people, but finding such a place quickly was difficult.
It was then that Viscount Sudsfield’s voice cut through her thoughts. “Come to my estate.”
“…Viscount?” Diana muttered in surprise, looking up at him.
Kayden pulled her closer, frowning. “But Viscount’s estate, Diana’s family home, will be the first place they search.”
“That’s exactly why it will work. It’s such an obvious choice that it will buy us time. And they won’t dare storm into a family that just lost its heir a few days ago.” Viscount Sudsfield, still dressed in mourning clothes, spoke calmly.
Diana instinctively looked at Kayden. He looked back at her. The viscount’s reasoning was sound, but Diana was concerned about asking for help from someone who had just lost a family member.
The viscount, sensing their hesitation, looked at them with sharp eyes. “The best way to defy the First Princess and her faction is to foil their plans. Please, allow me to help.”
With no further room for argument, both Kayden and Diana nodded grimly.
Kayden spoke in a heavy voice. “Let’s go to Viscount’s estate.”
