“…”

Roxanne stared blankly up at Rebecca, as if she had been struck on the head, then slowly collapsed onto the floor.

Seeing that the defiance had disappeared from Roxanne’s face, Rebecca jerked her chin at a servant. “Help her to the carriage.”

“Yes, understood.”

At Rebecca’s low command, the servant bowed respectfully and helped Roxanne to her feet. Normally, Roxanne would have yelled at anyone who dared to touch her, but now she quietly allowed herself to be led away.

“…”

Rebecca gazed silently at Roxanne’s retreating, staggering back, and suddenly fell into thought. Just before parting with Diana, as she had vaguely hinted, Rebecca had regained her memories from before the regression. However, she didn’t reveal everything.

“Lady… Rebecca, is it?”

It was before her regression. Duke Findlay had pushed forward with his experiments, even using Diana’s heart, but in the end, his experiment failed. Because of that, Rebecca, who had turned against the duke, was dragged down from the throne by his scheming and confined to a monastery. It was around that time, as Rebecca spent her days like a living corpse in her room, that a priestess secretly came to her.

“Who are you?”

“I’m Priestess Christina. I came to Lady Rebeca because I have something urgent to tell you.”

The priestess, introducing herself as ‘Christina,’ revealed an unbelievable story.

“What are you talking about…”

“I know it’s hard to believe. But… I’ve experienced the same thing twice. I don’t think it can be dismissed as a coincidence or illusion.”

According to Christina, she had received divine revelations twice during prayer. The message was as follows:

“If you wish to undo your mistake, find someone who also wishes to undo the same kind of mistake, and give your lives together.”

A mistake. Ironically, as soon as she heard that word, Diana’s face flashed through Rebecca’s mind. She instinctively furrowed her brow.

But it was too far-fetched to believe right away. From the start, Rebecca was the type to trust herself more than any god. Moreover, even an official priest would be lucky to receive a divine revelation once in their life—what were the chances that this priestess had received two? It made more sense to see it as a fabrication.

Although Rebecca didn’t voice it, perhaps Christina sensed her suspicion, because she quietly added.

“I heard that ever since Lady Rebecca lost your position as empress, more precisely, since you lost that close maid, Diana, you have shown no enthusiasm for anything.”

“…”

“So, if you feel the same way as I do… please, come find me anytime. I’m also staying at this monastery.”

Rebecca’s fingertips trembled unconsciously. She then clenched her fist tightly. As if venting her frustration at having her inner feelings exposed, she called out to Christina, who was about to leave the room.

“What is your relationship with Dian?”

Christina paused as she was about to leave, her back stiffening slightly. In a quiet voice, she replied,

“…It’s a relationship that no longer holds any meaning.”

“…”

Rebecca narrowed her eyes and watched the priestess’s retreating figure. She couldn’t see clearly under the veil, but there was something about her that overlapped strangely with Diana.

“Undo a mistake? What nonsense.”

Rebecca muttered aloud, as if to admonish herself. But even doing so was proof that she wanted to believe Christina’s words.

“…Ha.

Rebecca let out a faint, incredulous laugh at herself for wanting to lean on such nonsense. Yet, in the end, she couldn’t ignore Christina’s proposal.

What Rebecca and Christina wished for, even at the cost of their own lives, was to turn Diana back to the past. Yet for some reason, it was Rebecca who recovered her memories through fragments of dreams.

I still don’t know why I regained my memories as well… But at least one thing was certain. Rebecca was never going to reveal this truth to Diana, ever. Because this too was a burden of guilt she had to carry. And…

At least in this life, I hope she can be truly happy, without any worries.

It may have taken a long and winding road, but in the end, Kayden and Diana were able to have a safe wedding, presided over by Dona—or rather, Christina.

“…And so, may eternal blessing and peace be upon these two who have pledged themselves before God’s servant.”

With Christina’s soft voice, the ceremony came to an end. It was a simple, modest wedding with no guests, but there was no regret because the sincerity within it was deep and genuine.

“Once you sign the marriage register, the process will be complete.”

With a gentle smile, Christina led Kayden and Diana to the records room. Each temple recorded the names of those married there. Since Kayden and Diana were using false identities prepared by Mizel, they followed Christina without concern.

The priest in charge of the records greeted them warmly. “Oh! You’ve had the ceremony. That’s wonderful.”

“It’s all thanks to your prayers. Thank you.”

Kayden replied with a smile. The priest smiled back and busily retrieved a thick ledger. It was so heavy that when he set it on the table, it landed with a resounding thud.

“Please sign here.” The priest handed quill pens to Kayden and Diana. As he absentmindedly watched them sign, he suddenly let out a sound of surprise. “Your names are the same as the emperor and empress? How fascinating.”

“Right? We found it funny, too.” Diana answered smoothly without flinching, smiling brightly. Thanks to that, the records-keeper never even imagined that the couple before him could actually be the emperor and empress.

“People must have mistaken you two quite a lot. Speaking of which, while organizing records the other day, I found the name of the first empress, Daisy Bluebell, and the one known as the first elementalist of dark, Lombard. Isn’t that an odd combination?”

“…What?” At those words, Diana’s eyes widened without realizing it. Kayden also turned to her in surprise.

Daisy and Lombard. Amrien, the spirit king, had said they were never able to meet again. That Daisy never came, even until Lombard’s last breath. But on the other hand, it meant that after the moment Lombard’s life faded and his connection with Amrien was severed, even the spirit king wouldn’t know what happened.

Diana and Kayden both murmured at the same time. “No way…”

<What? That’s impossible…>

Right after returning to the inn from the temple, Kayden and Diana called Amrien and told it what happened. Naturally, it looked disbelieving.

“Still, you never know. Let’s check.”

Persuaded by Diana and Kayden, they snuck into the temple records room late at night. Kayden took out the book and opened it on the table.

“Here it is.” He quickly flipped through the pages and pointed to the names ‘Daisy’ and ‘Lombard’ mentioned by the priest.

Amrien, still skeptical, moved closer to check for itself.

<It’s true…>

Amrien’s form, a sphere, seemed to waver for a moment, and an uncharacteristically trembling voice filled the air.

<It’s really Daisy and Lombard’s… energy.>
