Resurrection Chapter 137 - I’m Saying Let’s Date
Once Kim Yitae met Seo Heesoo, there was a limit to what he could do. Seo Heesoo, who had become Kim Yitae’s partner, was as good as immortal, and it was impossible to separate them, bound as they were by death and resurrection.
Come to think of it, the root of all evil was Seol Woochan. If he hadn’t given him the Record of Regression, he wouldn’t have had to blame himself for a future he couldn’t change, nor would he have had to suffer from repeatedly witnessing Kim Yitae’s death.
But Min Gongchan no longer had the words to resent him. Because he had blamed, cursed, and even killed him countless times.
“If you didn’t want to die, you should have just kept the Record of Regression. Why are you after Kim Yitae?”
At Min Gongchan’s question, Seol Woochan rose from his seat. He poured whiskey into an empty glass and retorted.
“As you say, if I simply didn’t want to die, the Record of Regression would have been enough. In fact, it might be more suitable for immortality than resurrection, since it lets one return to their younger days.”
Seol Woochan paused for a moment, then raised his glass and drank the whiskey. The dark brown alcohol sloshed, and Seol Woochan casually set the empty glass down and continued.
“But I am tired of repeating my life. As you already know, what I want to see is the future, not the past. The future that you will forge.”
Seol Woochan, who had obtained the Record of Regression, revised his life by dying and dying again, regressing and regressing again, whenever he faced trial and error. In the end, he got his hands on the Oleander Society, reigned as the master of the underworld, and obtained everything he desired. And in his ninetieth year, he no longer felt the need to regress. Instead, he handed the Record of Regression over to Min Gongchan as a twentieth birthday present.
He surmised that although Min Gongchan was insignificant now, he would eventually become strong by repeating his regressions. That was the future Seol Woochan desired. He wanted Min Gongchan, his only blood relative, to inherit the kingdom he had built through regression, by means of regression.
The thought that he was trying to fulfill even his last wish through him made his terrible greed nauseating. But that was a wish he could have only because he didn’t know the future after his ninetieth year, when he handed over the Record of Regression.
Of course, even if he didn’t know about the future where the world would be destroyed, it couldn’t be an excuse for giving him the Record of Regression. Seol Woochan, more than anyone else, would have known best that countless regressions were by no means a blessing.
Min Gongchan twisted his lips and spewed accusations instead of curses.
“You wouldn’t be saying that if I hadn’t become the Vampire Lord. You denied that I was your son, and you had no intention of making me your successor. When I groveled at your feet begging for your help, you insulted and scorned me, so what’s all this now? The future that I will forge?”
Seol Woochan drank his whiskey and laughed as if amused.
“So I’ve never acknowledged you as my successor before? Is this life the first?”
“Just answer me!”
As Min Gongchan shouted, unable to contain his anger, the whiskey bottle and glass on the desk shattered with a sharp sound. The pungent scent of alcohol rose from the spilled whiskey, and Min Gongchan glared at Seol Woochan, his eyes burning blue.
It was a murderous glare that would have made an ordinary person wet themselves and pass out. But a wily old tiger like Seol Woochan, even if he was terrified inside, would not show it on the outside.
Seol Woochan took off the bracelet on his wrist and placed it on the table, which was soiled with liquor and glass shards. The object, which looked more like a shackle than a bracelet, had a chain connected to it. Its end, just like the one on Kim Yitae’s neck, faded faintly into thin air.
“You were just a powerless brat, but regression has made you my successor. This is a gift I am giving to my successor.”
“A gift? You’re saying Kim Yitae is a gift?”
“I tried tirelessly, but this was my limit. In the end, I could not escape this underworld. But it would have been different if I had not only regression, but also resurrection in my hands. I would have brought all the Awoken in the world to their knees at my feet.”
Min Gongchan suddenly burst out laughing.
“Hahahahaha!”
As far as Min Gongchan knew, Seol Woochan was the only other regressor besides himself. And yet, from the moment he stopped regressing, he knew nothing of what would happen in the future.
After clutching his stomach and laughing like a madman for a while, Min Gongchan pointed at Seol Woochan and jeered scathingly.
“Do you know what your end is like? You die in a car accident. You die on your way to Elysium, trying to save your own skin, when a car comes flying and hits you.”
At those words, Seol Woochan’s relaxed expression, even in the face of Min Gongchan’s murderous intent, hardened. Min Gongchan continued, his sneer nearly turning into a sob.
“You don’t get a memorial service, let alone a funeral. How could something like that be possible when the world is going to shit? The future? What future is there when the world is coming to an end?”
Seol Woochan couldn’t say a word, his face frozen as if he had seen a ghost. Min Gongchan found it utterly ridiculous, yet at the same time, he was afraid.
No matter how much of a regressor one was, one could not know one’s own death. Because one could only die by giving up regression. In a way, there was only one manner of death for a regressor.
Suicide.
Because they could only die if they chose to kill themselves.
But a repeated life could not be considered a life. A life trapped in a regression like a hamster wheel, with no future, was nothing short of a living hell. So wasn’t that why even that greedy and hideous old man had quit regressing?
Min Gongchan slowly stopped laughing. The look in his expressionless eyes was terribly empty. He had still found no answer to the impending doom of the world. His own power was always feeble, and he couldn’t save even one person, Kim Yitae, let alone the world.
Min Gongchan snatched the shackle from the table and turned away. He didn’t say things like, “I’ll be taking this,” or “Today is the last day you’ll see my face.” Because he himself didn’t know if this regression would be the last.
Min Gongchan went out to the living room and shattered the reinforced glass blocking the open air. Then he threw himself into the darkness, which was so pitch-black it couldn’t even be called a night view.
Whoooooosh!
With a fierce wind, gravity pulled him down, and the thrill of a free fall set in. In the vast, distant void, Min Gongchan stretched his arm forward as if to grab someone’s hand.
‘If you can’t trust Heesoo hyung, trust yourself. If you can’t trust yourself, trust me!’
Kim Yitae, who had firmly believed that Seo Heesoo would save the world, had a strange confidence. He always denied the words that Seo Heesoo would destroy the world and did not believe in his betrayal. No matter how he tried to persuade him, just as Seo Heesoo always chose destruction in the end, Kim Yitae also chose Seo Heesoo.
He may have wavered, but he never once abandoned Seo Heesoo. In the end, he was always worried about Seo Heesoo.
‘Save Heesoo hyung.’
Min Gongchan inwardly shook his head. He shouldn’t trust either Kim Yitae or Seo Heesoo. Now that Kim Yitae was wavering over Seo Heesoo was his chance.
Thud!
Though he had jumped from a dizzyingly high place, his landing was gentle. Landing on the ground with only a light footstep, Min Gongchan swept back his hair, which had been ruffled by the wind. Then he looked at the shackle in his hand.
With this powerful restraint item, he could track Kim Yitae wherever he went. He could inflict pain on him, or even kill him if he wanted. Because the sealed Lævateinn couldn’t break this.
It was as good as holding Kim Yitae’s life in his hands. Using this, he might be able to do as he pleased with him.
For a fleeting moment, Min Gongchan felt tempted. To be honest, the temptation was incredibly strong. But Kim Yitae would never yield to this kind of threat. He had once oppressed him with methods worse than Yaksha’s, but it only had the opposite effect.
Still, just in case of a one-in-a-million situation… or perhaps just to console himself.
Lost in thought, Min Gongchan gave a bitter smile. He was making all sorts of excuses out of a desire not to lose his connection to Kim Yitae.
He was trying to prevent the world’s destruction and save Kim Yitae, and he had no other objective. He knew well that the moment he coveted something else, his already overwhelming life of regression would become even more miserable.
Min Gongchan decided to let go of his lingering attachment. He turned the shackle over. Light flowed out from it, and the chain began to break into pieces. Soon, the chained part disappeared completely, and the light faded. The chain around Kim Yitae’s neck had probably disappeared in the same way.
What remained in Min Gongchan’s hand was only the shackle, which looked like an ordinary lump of iron. Min Gongchan threw it away somewhere. Because if he kept it, he might want to use it again.
Amid a feeling of emptiness yet liberation, Min Gongchan thought of Kim Yitae, who must be feeling relieved now that he was free from the chain. With Do Jiheon by his side, he didn’t need to worry about his safety for the time being. Do Jiheon was the only card he could use with confidence, as far as Kim Yitae was concerned.
What he needed to do now was to take advantage of the doubt Kim Yitae harbored and eliminate Seo Heesoo. He couldn’t confirm his whereabouts after he disappeared into the dungeon, and if he reappeared, he would be stronger than before, but he was confident he could kill him now. It was worth a try, as long as Kim Yitae didn’t revive him.
This time for sure, he would end Seo Heesoo’s life without hesitation.
Min Gongchan solidified his resolve.
