Resurrection Chapter 136 - I’m Saying Let’s Date

Author: nicotine

Min Gongchan turned his head away, as if that was all he had to say. And then he turned into a swarm of bats and disappeared from before my eyes. Left behind, I stood dazedly rooted to the spot. Now that my belief that Heesoo hyung would save the world was being shaken, the words of the regressor, Min Gongchan, were more powerful than ever.

He told me to kill Heesoo hyung when I have the chance.

Is that what I’m supposed to do?

As I stood there dumbfounded, Do Jiheon lightly pulled on me. He showed no particular sign of surprise even after hearing the whole story. Just as he knew Min Gongchan was a regressor, it seemed he also knew that Heesoo hyung would destroy the world.

“First, let’s go find out what happened in the den of monsters. It won’t be too late to judge Seo Heesoo after we know what happened there.”

Do Jiheon was right. I barely managed to recall the reason I’d come all this way and caused a scene, and I nodded my head.

Do Jiheon immediately took my hand. Then, he teleported through the blockade that Min Gongchan had broken down.

Min Gongchan flew as a swarm of bats through the dark, unlit Oleander Road. Just because he looked like bats didn’t mean he was a real bat; he had become a swarm, one of the powers of a vampire.

The feeling of his own form being split into many was extremely bizarre. An odd sense of liberation and a dangerous thrill coexisted. Min Gongchan thought that he might just shatter into countless pieces he couldn’t even count. With a sudden sense of crisis, he hurriedly returned to his original form.

When he landed somewhere, he found himself standing on the tallest building on Oleander Road. It was a hotel built for guests who wished to stay on Oleander Road for days on end and enjoy its pleasures.

Though it appeared so on the outside, in truth, this hotel was a place built for the master of Oleander Road to look down upon his world. In fact, the top floor of this hotel did not accept guests. That place was always kept empty for Seol Woochan.

Min Gongchan leaped down from the structure he was standing on, opened the rooftop door, and entered the building. After passing the emergency staircase and turning a few corners, a firmly locked door appeared. He smashed the door open with force and entered the hallway, where he saw the dogs Seol Woochan had let loose at the far end.

Those dogs, called attendants, were not flustered by Min Gongchan’s sudden appearance. They simply held their ground and quietly drew their weapons. Min Gongchan strode toward them and spat out.

“Move.”

He spread his Blood Line, but it could not pass through the door the attendants were blocking. The room where Seol Woochan was staying was equipped with every kind of defensive device in existence.

Min Gongchan scoffed and kicked off the ground, charging at the attendants. The weapons they held spewed fire, but they were no match for him, who had feasted on the blood of a vampire, not a human.

It’s an interesting thing, but there are few species that commit fratricide as often as vampires. That was one of the fatal reasons for the decline in the vampire population.

Vampires could drink the blood of other vampires and, at the same time, absorb their powers as well. From a vampire’s perspective, it was far better to drink the blood of another vampire than to drink the blood of an ordinary person who was legally protected.

What that meant was that if you became a vampire half-heartedly, you had to suppress your thirst for blood and have your abilities restricted, and on top of that, you could be preyed upon by other vampires. There weren’t many people who wanted to become a vampire despite these handicaps.

Of course, vampire society strictly forbade the drinking of a kinsman’s blood. This was to prevent a vampire who had drunk the blood of another vampire from growing stronger and challenging the authority of the Noble Vampires. The non-aggression pact signed by the six guild masters was also only to prevent bloodshed among them.

Well aware of this situation, Min Gongchan had intended to prey on other vampires and become the Vampire Lord from the moment he decided to become a Royal Vampire. He chose Unknown, the weakest of the vampire guilds, and devoured every vampire in its headquarters.

Having become even more powerful by ingesting the blood of the Unknown guild master, he could have satisfied his thirst by slaughtering every living vampire if he wished. But Min Gongchan did not. Instead, he revealed himself as a Royal Vampire, proved he was qualified to be the Lord, and shared his blood with the Noble Vampires.

By drinking Min Gongchan’s blood and receiving his power, they acknowledged him as their Lord and became his kin. He was nearly torn limb from limb during the process, but the plan succeeded anyway, and now Min Gongchan and the guild masters had become blood donors, sharing a common destiny.

Since everything they possessed had become Min Gongchan’s, he wasn’t actually desperate for what Seol Woochan had. It was different from the days of his past regressions when he had to become Seol Woochan’s successor to get his hands on the Oleander Society.

Nevertheless, the reason he came here was that he had noticed Seol Woochan was coveting Kim Yitae. It was inevitable that Kim Yitae’s Resurrection would become known to the world, but Seol Woochan aiming for Kim Yitae was unexpected.

In fact, in his numerous regressions, Seol Woochan had tried to use Kim Yitae, if anything, but had never once touched him directly. But why did he so openly want Kim Yitae this time?

Min Gongchan nudged the attendants sprawled at his feet with his foot, pushing them aside. They were all A-rank Awoken and were at a level where they could take down a decent monster on their own, but they were no match for Min Gongchan.

Having repeatedly learned martial arts through countless regressions, Min Gongchan was confident of victory in one-on-one combat. It might be different for monster hunting, which required overwhelming force, but if the opponent was a human, even an Awoken one, they were not difficult to deal with.

Withdrawing his useless Blood Line, he placed a hand on the door the attendants had been blocking. He thought it might be locked and he would have to break it, but surprisingly, the door opened easily.

Inside was a neatly decorated suite. The first thing he saw upon entering was a living room with a view overlooking all of Oleander Road.

There was no one there. Min Gongchan moved on and entered the drawing room next to the living room. And there, he came face to face with an old man relaxing in an armchair, enjoying a glass of liquor.

That old man, who looked gentle at first glance but was undoubtedly tiger-like, was Seol Woochan.

Many people thought he must be an Awoken, seeing his face that looked much younger than his age, his robust body and tireless stamina, the numerous Awoken he commanded, and the wealth and power that could be described as enormous. This was true even after he proved himself to be an ordinary person in order to run for mayor of Sejong City. Everyone thought he had manipulated the Awoken evaluation system, but he had never lied, at least about that fact.

Seol Woochan was truly an ordinary person.

A long, long time ago, when Min Gongchan was an ordinary person, he too had suspected that Seol Woochan was a hidden Awoken. Because he had been extremely curious as to how an ordinary person could possess such power. But now, he knew how it was possible.

Min Gongchan let out a barely audible sigh and plopped down across from Seol Woochan. Then he took the glass the man was drinking from and drained all the whiskey at the bottom. Setting the glass down with a thud, he glanced at the object visible beneath the man’s sleeve. The thing that looked like a thick metal bracelet at first glance was what was controlling the chain around Kim Yitae’s neck.

Min Gongchan eyed it and said.

“Have you gone senile in your old age? Don’t want to die now? What are you going to use Kim Yitae for?”

At the words that were blurted out without any greeting, Seol Woochan clicked his tongue, tch.

“…Which number is this?”

At Seol Woochan’s question, Min Gongchan’s face contorted.

There was only one reason why Seol Woochan, a mere ordinary person, could command Awoken who were loyal as dogs and reign as the lord of the criminal underworld.

It was because he was a regressor.

And the one who had made Min Gongchan a regressor was none other than Seol Woochan.

Min Gongchan twisted his lips and retorted.

“Do you think I can count them?”

“There must have been a lot of trial and error to get that strong in an ordinary person’s body.”

The words “trial and error” felt endlessly trivial, and it put him in a very foul mood.

Seol Woochan had regressed solely for his own glory, but Min Gongchan’s situation was different. Unlike Seol Woochan, who stopped regressing when he achieved what he wanted, he could not run away from the world’s destruction and Kim Yitae’s death. And that was because of the Record of Regression he had received from Seol Woochan.

Min Gongchan received the Record of Regression right after he became an adult. The timing was shitty, too. It would have been better if Seol Woochan had given him the Record of Regression a little earlier—at least before Kim Yitae acquired Resurrection, or before he was kidnapped by Yaksha and met the Golden Emperor, or before he entered the den of monsters to save Seo Heesoo.

The point at which Min Gongchan regressed was always after receiving the Record of Regression, and by then, Kim Yitae had already entered the den of monsters to save Seo Heesoo. He had to miss Kim Yitae by a hair’s breadth, so the timing of his regression was always late.
