Resurrection Chapter 43 - I Do Not Remember
“……”
I closed my eyes, and silence fell.
It was a strange stillness, unfitting for such an urgent situation.
Feeling a strange sensation, I opened my eyes and tried to pull my head back. Before I could, an arm wrapped firmly around my waist. Heesoo hyung… no, Ulfheðinn, leaned his weight into me. Because of that, my back arched automatically, and my lips parted wide.
With my eyes wide open, I could see Ulfheðinn’s narrow eyes right in front of mine. Faced with a gaze as hot as a blazing fire and a thick breath, I had no choice but to close my eyes again.
“Mmph… Heut…!”
It was a considerable amount of time later that his lips left mine. Only after completely rummaging through my insides and leaving me in disarray did Ulfheðinn let me go.
I staggered back, and by then, Min Gongchan was already sprawled on the swamp floor. His neck, which had been on the verge of breaking, was half-submerged in the swamp, and he was unconscious.
I hastily turned and approached him to check his pulse. It was faint, so I hurriedly emptied a potion into his mouth and poured some on his profusely bleeding neck.
After dragging his mud-covered body out of the swamp and propping him up against a rock, anger finally began to boil inside me.
I whipped my head around. There, in Heesoo hyung’s form, stood Ulfheðinn, looking completely at ease. I did not hide my anger and burst out shouting.
“What is the meaning of this! Heesoo hyung did not even ask for your descent, so why did you possess him!”
Even though I dared to yell at a god, he did not seem to care. He wore a languid and suggestive smile that Heesoo hyung would never make, and stuck out his tongue to lick his wet lips.
“You have a knack for soothing my mood, don’t you?”
My face flushed red.
The moment I realized my opponent was Ulfheðinn, I had judged that it would be better to use my mouth rather than physical force.
In the end, it was the right decision, but it was not something I could be happy about. I was so embarrassed that I wanted to dive under a blanket right away and kick it.
But this was no time to be feeling embarrassed. I shouted, determined to figure out Ulfheðinn’s intentions.
“Why do you keep appearing? What is your purpose?”
Ulfheðinn strode towards me, sloshing through the swamp. I wanted to step back, but I did not want to lose to his momentum. As I stood there with my legs firmly planted and glaring, he reached out and caressed the tip of my chin.
“My purpose is only one, and that is you.”
I could not understand it at all.
When has he ever seen me?
A transcendent being’s purpose is a mere human like me. Even after hearing the answer to my question, I do not understand what it means. I was just confused, but despite that, my heart was pounding violently. The claim that Heesoo hyung would destroy the world suddenly gained credibility, and I had a foreboding premonition.
Heesoo hyung is the kind of person who would sacrifice himself for the world, not destroy it. But the transcendent being in front of me is different. The thought that he could do it without any hesitation made it difficult to breathe.
Seeing me gasping for breath, Ulfheðinn’s smile deepened. He wiped my still-wet lips for me and said.
“I wanted to think it was nothing special, but it felt good. What is this mere lip, that my anger subsided in an instant. I am surprised at myself.”
I panted and said.
“With Heesoo hyung’s… with Heesoo hyung’s body, you just did as you pleased……”
“It felt like my whole body was melting. How can such a small piece of flesh be so sweet?”
“Do not act as you please! This, this is Heesoo hyung’s body, it is Heesoo hyung’s lifespan! Get out now……. Get the hell out of here!”
As I slapped his hand away and screamed, his smile softened. Seemingly offended, Ulfheðinn withdrew his hand with a slightly cold expression and said.
“I will return satisfied with your lips for today, but next time, it would be better for you to show more courtesy.”
“Courtesy, my foot……. Screw off and get lost!”
As I was screaming my head off, Heesoo hyung suddenly closed his eyes and collapsed to the side like a scarecrow. I hurried over and caught his body, but having gone through so much just a few minutes after entering the dungeon, I had no energy left.
I barely managed to sit Heesoo hyung down next to Min Gongchan. As soon as I did that, I also completely collapsed next to them. I was so drained, as if I had just fought a fierce battle with a monster, that I could not even lift a single finger.
I lay down like someone who had been severely injured and closed my eyes.
“I do not remember.”
I was flabbergasted by what the awakened Heesoo hyung said.
Min Gongchan was still unconscious. It would take time for his wounds to heal, so I left him for now and woke up Heesoo hyung first to ask for the details of what had happened, but the answer I got was that he did not remember.
It could not be a lie. I could tell that Heesoo hyung’s words were true just by looking at his expression when I woke him up.
He seemed flustered, not knowing how he had fainted. Seeing Min Gongchan collapsed, he was even more surprised and asked if a monster had appeared.
Just in case, I asked again.
“Did you ask Ulfheðinn to descend upon you, hyung?”
“No. At least, not in my memory.”
“If that is not it, then why did a divine possession happen?”
“I am not sure about that either……. What on earth happened?”
“What do you mean what happened! Min Gongchan, to me…!”
I trailed off, hesitating. I was about to say that after seeing the kissing scene, you, hyung, got pissed off or something, and a divine possession happened and all hell broke loose, but it was incredibly embarrassing. It was even more so because it seemed like he did not remember the scene itself.
I asked cautiously.
“What is the last thing you remember, hyung?”
“My memory just cut off while I was talking with Mr. Min Gongchan.”
“Where exactly?”
“I have no memory from after the handshake.”
As expected, he did not remember from the point where Min Gongchan clung to me and pretended to kiss me. That means Ulfheðinn’s possession had nothing to do with Heesoo hyung’s will.
I had never seen a god descend upon an awakened one without their consent before, but it was not an entirely implausible story. Regardless of whether it was true or not, there were many rumors, both online and offline, about a god descending and helping in a moment of crisis.
I asked the Golden Emperor a direct question.
‘Your Majesty, is it possible to descend upon a human without being requested, like Ulfheðinn?’
An answer came back immediately.
—The Golden Emperor replies that of course it is possible if it is an apostle he has personally chosen. However, he says that he has no reason to do so and does not wish to do so.
It was only natural. Transcendent beings did not have physical bodies. Their essence is power, itself.
Strictly speaking, even the Golden Emperor I was communicating with could not be called the real one. They were just a kind of avatar, separated to understand humans.
Even this avatar was excessively powerful, so it was hard to see a mere animal-like human body as comfortable. Even if it was not as painful as what humans feel, it was obvious that it would be awkward and uncomfortable.
If so, it means that Ulfheðinn had a reason to endure the discomfort and possess Heesoo hyung.
Ulfheðinn had replied that the reason was me. It was something I could not understand at all, and my head was about to explode.
I asked one more question.
‘Could it be that Your Majesty has some connection with Ulfheðinn? And that is why he is interested in me, Your Majesty’s apostle…….’
—The Golden Emperor is greatly enraged.
A loud roar, similar to the sound of a thunderstorm, echoed in my head with a “Rumble.” The Golden Emperor was undoubtedly angered by my question, so I could not ask any further.
Judging by his reaction, he seemed to think that being associated with Ulfheðinn itself was insulting. If there was no relationship at all, would there be any reason to be angry?
It was at that moment. A low groan was heard, and a voice cut in.
“……That’s a lie.”
I quickly turned my head and saw Min Gongchan, who I had propped up against a rock, with his eyes drowsily open. He rubbed his neck, which had almost been broken, and said in a voice that was hoarse from being choked.
“Do not believe him, that is all a lie……. Ahem.”
Seeing Min Gongchan, who had to stop talking because his throat was choked up, I clicked my tongue.
“It will take a little longer for you to recover. Stop talking nonsense and shut your mouth.”
“……It is because it is not nonsense. You do not remember? Do not make me laugh.”
Min Gongchan glared at Heesoo hyung with terrifying eyes. Faced with a gaze mixed with anger, resentment, loathing, and reproach, Heesoo hyung looked at a loss for what to do.
Having lived his entire life as a paladin, had he ever received such a look from someone he barely knew? It seemed he was flustered just by being accused of lying.
Heesoo hyung opened his mouth in bewilderment.
“It is true that I do not remember. I do not know why you are calling it a lie.”
“You piece of trash, you were always like that. Pretending not to know anything, pretending it was a mistake, pretending it was not your intention, pretending to be in pain……. But it was all what you wanted. Why do you think Ulfheðinn possessed you and attacked me of all people?”
Heesoo hyung’s eyes widened. I had not told him that it was he… no, Ulfheðinn, who had beaten Min Gongchan to a pulp.
It was not on purpose; I just did not get the chance.
“I attacked Mr. Min Gongchan?”
As Heesoo hyung turned to me and asked, Min Gongchan shouted furiously.
“If not you, then who did it! You almost killed me just because I kissed Kim Yitae!”
“Hey! You son of a bitch, can’t you shut up?”
