Resurrection Chapter 57 - Terminal Concept Syndrome Patient
Seo Heesoo, who already knew that Yaksha was there, was extremely anxious.
When Yaksha, who was known to have gone into hiding, reappeared here, there could only be one purpose. None other than Kim Yitae and his Resurrection.
Yaksha was the first person to notice the existence of the revival skill. Since Kim Yitae had said he had never once tested Resurrection, how that man had noticed it was something of a mystery. When asked if he had any idea, Kim Yitae had touched his forehead and answered.
‘There’s only one thing I can think of. The fact that Yaksha is a spirit medium.’
In terms of dealing with the undead, a spirit medium was in the same vein as other necromancers. Usually, people thought they were one and the same.
But on closer inspection, they were completely different. A spirit medium dealt not with corpses, but with souls. They were capable of inserting the souls they had bound into objects or corpses. This was fundamentally different from a typical necromancer who dealt with decaying bodies.
Kim Yitae was speculating that Yaksha had sensed the existence of the revival skill because he was a spirit medium. In any case, the important thing was that Yaksha knew Kim Yitae’s secret.
He had caught Kim Yitae once and then lost him, so he had anticipated that Yaksha would show up again someday. But that moment was not now.
Not now.
Seo Heesoo knew he had to defeat the archdemon before him and escape the prison of fire to get to Kim Yitae as quickly as possible. It was also clear that he had to defeat the archdemon before it completed whatever unusual thing it was creating, so Seo Heesoo drew out all the power he had.
As he took his stance, the greatsword vibrated as if it would break. The gleam of the greatsword grew larger and larger, and it became difficult for Seo Heesoo to even hold onto the sword. Pouring out his immense power and condensing it into the blade, Seo Heesoo shouted the activation word when he judged that it had reached its limit.
“Great Annihilation Strike!”
As he thrust the sword aiming for the crown of the archdemon’s head, his vision momentarily went dark. It was because the energy that had been making the greatsword shine brilliantly seemed to have disappeared.
But that was a momentary phenomenon, like a precursor. The power that seemed to have temporarily weakened was amplified several times over and pierced the crown of the archdemon’s head. And then it vanished into the archdemon’s interior as if sucked in. Then, it burst out again from the inside.
KRA-KRA-KRA-KRA!
The archdemon’s body began to collapse here and there as if it had swallowed a bomb. But even as its form crumbled, the archdemon did not lose its posture. The wheel it was creating in the air only grew in power.
The fireball, which was distorting and turning black, was sucking in everything around it.
RUMBLE!
A fierce current arose, and Seo Heesoo hurriedly plunged his greatsword into the ground. If he didn’t, even he would be sucked into the fireball. Leaning on his greatsword, Seo Heesoo raised his eyes.
‘Even after using all my power for the Great Annihilation Strike, I couldn’t defeat the archdemon!’
He had no strength left to attack, but this was no time for despair. The pillar of fire that had been trapping him had been sucked into the fireball and disappeared. Now was his chance to get away from the archdemon and run to Kim Yitae.
Seo Heesoo pulled out the greatsword and began to run in the opposite direction of the torrent. He jumped up, stepping on the chunks of rock that remained here and there on the walls of the valley that was flowing with lava. With his astonishing physical ability to leap several meters even from a standstill, he escaped the bottom of the valley in an instant.
While leaping high above the valley, he saw that the ground was swarming with undead. The corpses that had burned to death were surrounding Min Gongchan, who was armed with mithril, in a black mass. It was only right that he should help him, but Seo Heesoo’s eyes searched only for Kim Yitae.
His body fell downward again, and Seo Heesoo landed on the ground with a BOOM!. The ground caved in from the impact, and the surrounding undead crumbled from the shockwave alone.
Seo Heesoo slowly rose to his feet. His height was close to two meters, similar to the werewolf Yoon Younghyun. Because he was naked, the muscles packed tightly all over his body were fully revealed. The density of the compressed muscles was almost at the level of a lump of iron.
If the situation weren’t so urgent, he might have savored the powerful evolution of his body, but now was not the time.
Seo Heesoo saw the crumbling ground and the black mass shooting up from it on the other side of the undead-swarming plain. It soon spread its cape in the air and revealed its form.
“Mr. Yitae!”
Seo Heesoo saw Kim Yitae trapped in Yaksha’s two arms. He was held captive by Yaksha like prey snatched by an eagle’s talons.
Kim Yitae resisted fiercely, ignoring the fact that they were in the air, but Yaksha did not remain still. He grabbed his neck with one hand and bit down hard on the nape.
“Aack!”
Hearing his scream, Seo Heesoo’s face flushed hot. His vision grew dim as if darkness was falling, and something fiery surged up from within him.
His whole body shriveled, and his chest twisted in a way that was painful. He felt himself being overcome by a kind of anger he had never felt before.
Seo Heesoo gritted his teeth.
He was tormented by the temptation of divine descent.
Even when he died painfully several times while fighting the archdemon, he did not think to call Ulfheðinn. Not only did his memory disappear while Ulfheðinn was in forced divine descent, but more importantly, Kim Yitae had shown signs of being uneasy about it.
Although he hadn’t mentioned specific details, from Min Gongchan’s tone, it seemed Ulfheðinn was doing something to Kim Yitae. Ulfheðinn’s words that he would grant what Seo Heesoo wanted felt ominous, so he had vowed to never again ask for his descent.
But seeing Yaksha toying with Kim Yitae before his eyes, that resolve was about to crumble.
Seo Heesoo saw Yaksha whispering into Kim Yitae’s ear. Unlike his usual self, Kim Yitae was terrified and trembling like a leaf.
They were so far away that he shouldn’t have been able to hear their conversation, but because his physical abilities had developed outstandingly due to his Berserker stats, Yaksha’s whisper came through with excessive clarity.
“Do you want to get fucked in front of Seo Heesoo?”
Seo Heesoo was startled. The cruel pleasure and vile glee in Yaksha’s voice stabbed into his chest. Along with that, the image of Kim Yitae, who had vaguely glossed over what happened when he was abducted by Yaksha, also came to mind.
He had only said that he was lucky enough to meet the Golden Emperor and be chosen, and avoided specific mentions. So he had vaguely thought that he must have gone through something terrible, but…
“Though that does sound like it would be enjoyable.”
Seo Heesoo knew that his mind was being consumed by a black, or rather, a dark red rage. His reason flew away, and an explosive energy took over his entire body.
He knew that Ulfheðinn was descending, but he did not resist. He surrendered himself to the surging fury.
👑
“Damn it!”
Min Gongchan was fighting a desperate battle against the pouring undead. He already knew that Yaksha had snatched Kim Yitae and was holding him in his arms, but there was nothing he could do. He was too busy just protecting himself from the undead rushing at him from all sides.
‘How am I supposed to protect Kim Yitae like this…!’
Min Gongchan wanted to cry from the seeping despair. He thought he had grown completely used to the fact that he was no longer an Awakened but a civilian, but whenever moments like this came, it always became resentful.
If only he were an Awakened, he might have been able to solve all the problems long ago, but as a civilian, there was a limit to what his weak body could do. There was no other way but to die and die again, to fail and fail again.
Why on earth was he not an Awakened?
Why did he, a mere ordinary person, have to become a regressor?
There was no answer to the question he had repeated hundreds, thousands of times. Min Gongchan shuddered as he beat down the undead.
‘I’m sick of this now!’
Min Gongchan blew away the jaw of an undead that was wailing “Guuuh” with its burnt black mouth. The half-burnt undead’s head shattered before his eyes with a foul smell, but more undead swarmed and clung to his back.
Min Gongchan threw them off with powerful kicks and punches, but it was only for a moment. Seeing that there were undead in every direction, his energy began to drain rapidly.
‘I’m tired, I want to quit everything!’
Min Gongchan cried out inwardly, but he couldn’t stop fighting. He didn’t want to meet the end of being eaten by undead just because he was sick and tired of it. Because even if he gave up in a place like this, he would just return to the starting point.
Changing the pre-determined future of ruin was the only way to break free from the repeating cycle.
But as he struggled like this, a question arose.
Was it the future he wanted to change, or was it Kim Yitae’s heart?
‘Save Heesoo hyung.’
Min Gongchan recalled the last words Kim Yitae had repeated countless times, and his face clouded over. Kim Yitae always left a last will that he could never grant. He had heard those words so many times that sometimes he even had the illusion that he was supposed to save Seo Heesoo, not kill him.
Of course, that was an arrogant thought. Seo Heesoo was just as uncontrollable as Kim Yitae. With his abilities, it was impossible to save him or kill him.
With the body of a civilian, he couldn’t control anyone as he pleased, not just Kim Yitae or Seo Heesoo. His role was just to dirty a small puddle in a great river that flowed in one direction. It was no use no matter how hard he tried.
“Uwaaaah!”
Min Gongchan let out a roar and crushed an undead’s face. He pierced chests, tore off arms, snapped waists, and broke legs.
After fighting like a madman for a while, the corpses of the undead around him formed a small mound. With some distance between him and the undead, Min Gongchan witnessed the full sight of Yaksha, floating in the air, toying with Kim Yitae.
