Resurrection Chapter 93 - See You Again Then

Author: nicotine

Underneath the OSAMA Training Institute.

The beam of a flashlight swept across the empty, dark training ground.

The person holding the flashlight was a security guard on the night shift. He yawned as if his mouth would tear, as though suffering from chronic fatigue.

“Hwaaaaa… huh… ugh?”

The yawn ended in a bewildered groan, and he lost his strength, slumping to the floor. The person who hastily caught his falling body was none other than Yoon Younghyun.

Seeing the flashlight fall at the same time the security guard collapsed, he quickly reached out his hand.

“Gotcha.”

He snatched the flashlight in time, turned it off, and carefully laid the security guard in a corner of the hallway. Even though he was an Awakened hired by OSAMA, he was surely a contract worker, so he didn’t want to hurt him. A sort of consideration between people who are serious about the issue of making a living?

Yoon Younghyun straightened his back and glared uneasily at a CCTV camera mounted in a corner of the hallway. He glanced back at Min Gongchan, who was following behind, and spoke.

“That thing isn’t working, right?”

“It probably works, but what’s the use? There’s no one watching.”

Min Gongchan already had a clear grasp of the training institute’s structure, so as soon as they entered, he had found the security room. Although he’d “found” it, he hadn’t charged in directly; instead, he used a bizarre trick that only vampires would use.

The frigid energy that emanated from him knocked out everyone guarding the security room. Not only that, but the Awakened who were patrolling various parts of the training institute were also dealt with cleanly, without making a single sound.

Thanks to that, they entered the basement without any commotion. Now that they had taken care of the last remaining security guard, there was nothing more to hold them back.

“But isn’t this the end of the basement? We’ve already gone down to the 10th basement floor.”

“Shinrion is in a place that can’t be reached by elevator.”

After saying that, Min Gongchan walked on without hesitation. Following him, they came to a door at the end of the hallway. Opening it revealed a small room.

It was a space that seemed more like the end of the hallway had been partitioned off, the kind that would normally be used as a tool or supply room.

Min Gongchan, standing in the middle, felt around the tiled floor. Wondering if some secret passage was hidden there, he stared intently, and sure enough, a light suddenly flashed and a spark flew.

Crackle!

Startled by the sudden spark, Yoon Younghyun said.

“What was that?”

“A barrier. It’s set up so that only authorized personnel can enter.”

“What do we do now?”

“What do you mean, what do we do? We have to break it.”

“What?”

Turning to the flabbergasted Yoon Younghyun, Min Gongchan explained.

“There are layers of magic for identity verification, teleportation, and magic suppression. Unless you’re an exceptionally skilled mage, it’s difficult to dispel a multi-layered barrier like this. It’s better to just break it with physical force.”

“Do we just need to break the floor?”

“No. I told you. There’s teleportation magic on it. The place where Shinrion is located is much deeper underground. There’s no passage to get there. We either have to teleport or make a path.”

“Wait a minute, are you telling me to play mole right now?”

“Isn’t digging the ground a mutt’s instinct? Now, break it.”

Yoon Younghyun grumbled a complaint, but Min Gongchan didn’t even pretend to listen. Yoon Younghyun sighed and clenched his fists, while Min Gongchan took a simple measure to prevent the sound of the wall being broken from leaking out.

Soon, Yoon Younghyun, wearing knuckle dusters, swung his arm. A sound of tearing air, hard to believe came from just a single swing of an arm, echoed out. Where his fist struck, the floor didn’t just crack, the tiles shattered into smithereens.

“Whoa!”

Yoon Younghyun was startled by his own strength. Min Gongchan had nonchalantly said they should use physical force, but it was easier said than done; breaking magic with brute force was not an easy task. In the past, as an ordinary werewolf, he wouldn’t have been able to break it this easily. It was astonishing.

Once all the tiles were broken away, thick concrete was revealed in the sunken floor. It was a thickness that seemed impossible for a person to break with their bare fists, but Yoon Younghyun felt a mysterious power welling up along with his confidence.

He clenched his fists again, and with a creaking sound, his arms began to swell. His forearms, shoulders, and part of his back transformed into a beast’s, but unlike last time, the unfortunate incident of his clothes tearing did not occur. The gloves from the Otherworld Store expanded as his body grew, firmly supporting his joints and muscles.

Yoon Younghyun let out a spirited yell and threw a punch. An impact that felt like the entire OSAMA Training Institute building would collapse struck the floor.

For about an hour, Yoon Younghyun smashed all the concrete and dug out the dirt. After a feat nearly akin to an excavation project, concrete appeared again, and when he broke through it, the floor suddenly collapsed.

Yoon Younghyun, who fell down with the concrete fragments, landed in a space so vast it was hard to believe it was buried deep underground.

The first thing that caught his eye was the complex medical equipment situated in the middle of the room. A man was lying on the device, which looked like a combination of all existing magic, sorcery, and modern medicine.

Recognizing that man as Shinrion, he straightened his posture, but a sharp warning flew at him from behind.

“Be careful!”

As Yoon Younghyun flinched in surprise, a flashing light suddenly shot up from under his feet. It seemed to be a trap meant to eliminate intruders.

While his feet were ensnared by a binding spell, leaving him unable to move, weapons descended from the ceiling. Fully automatic crossbows took aim at Yoon Younghyun and fired not one, but several iron bolts, each nearly 3cm in diameter.

Whoosh!

The incoming iron bolts were hit by something and ricocheted off course. With his werewolf vision, Yoon Younghyun recognized them as bullets. When he looked back, Min Gongchan was standing there holding a portable railgun he had taken out of his dimension pocket. The electronic railgun, which used demonic energy, did not make an explosive sound like ordinary firearms.

As he reloaded the railgun and approached, a strange blue light trickled down from the corners of his eyes. Then, a frigid energy spread around, disabling all sorts of debuffs that were laid out on the floor like a carpet.

Yoon Younghyun was finally able to move, but he couldn’t help the way the hair all over his body stood on end as the urge to transform arose. He bared his teeth and glared at Min Gongchan with instinctive wariness.

Even seeing his eyes turning yellow, Min Gongchan paid no mind. He simply aimed the railgun forward and spoke plainly.

“Look ahead. It’s starting now.”

Yoon Younghyun snapped his head around and saw something that had been standing against the wall like a statue begin to walk forward. The hulking figures, armed with spears and swords, all looked identical and had no expressions.

A strange sense of foreignness emanated from their skin, and he knew what it was even without the guidance of the Awakened system.

“Dragon-tooth warriors.”

The dragon-tooth warriors, which had also appeared at the holy land of the Ulfheðinn, had a steadfast mission to protect something. He didn’t know how on earth they had managed to confine the dragon-tooth warriors here, but it was obvious what they had to protect.

As he looked troubled at the sight of ten dragon-tooth warriors, Min Gongchan opened his mouth.

“You take care of the dragon-tooth warriors.”

“What? By myself? What are you going to take on?”

“I have to get rid of that.”

Yoon Younghyun heard the sound of a jar shattering, along with something rising up with a low hum. It was not difficult to guess the identity of the sound, which was similar to a strong wind echoing through a narrow passage.

Yoon Younghyun saw countless insects pouring out from somewhere. Swarming and buzzing like bees, they were the size of moths and spun their wings like propellers.

They were not ordinary flying insects, but poisonous bugs that could only be seen in dungeons. One sting would be instantly fatal for most people!

Seeing them, the thought of the bugs that were likely inside his own stomach made him feel nauseous. If nothing else, the one who had confined these poisonous insects here was undoubtedly the team leader of Special Operations Unit Mugunghwa, Hwang Chi-hong.

Yoon Younghyun spouted curses instead of gagging, but Min Gongchan did not waste time like that.

His form dispersed like mist and transformed into dozens of bats. The bats and poisonous insects became entangled, covering the ceiling in black. During that time, the dragon-tooth warriors swung their weapons at Yoon Younghyun and charged.

Yoon Younghyun, with his incredible kinetic vision, dodged the dragon-tooth warriors’ attacks, which were too fast to be seen. Then, he swung his knuckle-duster-clad fists and began to strike the dragon-tooth warriors.

I was at the intersection leading to the OSAMA Training Institute, looking at the buildings shrouded in darkness.

The training institute was as quiet as a mouse, but it was certain that something was happening there. It wasn’t just because of what Park Gyu had said. Nor was it just because Heesoo hyung, who had gone to see Tae Yeongwoo, had contacted me to say that Yaksha would appear here.

They must have drastically strengthened security since Yaksha’s last attack, but I couldn’t detect any barrier reactions.

‘Who broke in? Was it Yaksha? Or Min Gongchan and Yoon Younghyun?’

I gnawed on my lip, wondering if I should contact Kang Cheoljun right now. However, if Min Gongchan’s goal was simply to stop Yaksha, he would have warned the Special Operations Unit about it long ago. The fact that he hadn’t, and had instead diverted Kang Cheoljun’s attention elsewhere to act independently, seemed to have a reason.

He might not trust the Special Operations Unit regarding Shinrion, so I couldn’t rashly contact Kang Cheoljun. The priority was to meet Min Gongchan before Yaksha appeared and find out what he was thinking.

‘Damn it, this is frustrating. I need to get inside quickly and see what’s going on.’

I nervously bit my lip, then looked around, wondering when Heesoo hyung would arrive.

It was late at night, so the empty road was deserted. I would be able to spot Heesoo hyung right away if he appeared, but it seemed he was running late. Should I have just met up with him in Sejong City and come together? But after passing through the sewer, my body reeked of a foul stench.
