“I want to go to an amusement park.”

Ji Yun-seo said it cautiously, almost as if she were afraid to hope.

For a child who had grown up in a musty orphanage, a glittering amusement park must have seemed like something out of a dream. She was still just a little girl—how much must she have longed to go?

Although Ji Yun-seo was always cheerful and lively, she struggled to voice the things she truly wanted. At her age, there had to be plenty of things she wished she could have or do, yet she never said them out loud.

It was only natural—she had never lived in an environment where she could. Before the regression, Ji Yun-seo had been used by others, never once able to enjoy something as simple as this.

Maybe that’s why, whenever I looked at her, I couldn’t help but see my own past self reflected in her—and it made my heart ache.

“How about we go to an amusement park, then?”

“Really?”

“Of course. If Yun-seo wants to go, then we should.”

What’s that? I’m curious!

It’s a place where people scream in terror yet somehow enjoy themselves.

☆ What Is That? has donated 100 Mana Stones. ☆

Sounds scary…

Trying to calm the excited Ji Yun-seo—who was now hopping up and down with joy—I hailed a cab and headed straight for the amusement park. Come to think of it, this was my first time going, too.

Before the regression, my circumstances had never allowed it, and afterward, I had been too busy trying to stop the world from collapsing.

Now that I could finally breathe a little, I was determined to enjoy it to the fullest.

As soon as we arrived, I bought two all-day passes—one for her, one for me. Today was going to be all about Ji Yun-seo.

“You can’t get in without this.”

Her eyes sparkled as the paper wristband was fastened around her wrist.

The amusement park wasn’t just big—it was enormous.

Her head darted left and right, taking in the dragon-headed Viking ship and roller coasters filled with screaming riders.

“If you come to an amusement park, you have to start with this.”

I took her hand and led her into the gift shop.

From what I’d seen on TV, everyone here wore headbands with animal ears.

‘What kind of headband would suit Yun-seo best?’

Rabbit ears would be cute. Fox ears, too.

While I was lost in thought, she was already captivated by something else—the character-shaped balloons floating high in the air.

Noticing the way she watched another child go by holding one, I bought two headbands—rabbit ears and bear ears—and a balloon.

“Here, Yun-seo.”

“Huh? Wow!”

Placing the balloon into her hands, I carefully set the rabbit-ear headband on her head. Her pale skin made the ears stand out perfectly.

And with today’s outfit—a white hoodie and a plaid skirt—she really could have passed for a little rabbit-girl.

“You look beautiful, Yun-seo.”

She’s so cute! Too adorable! I’ll make my next world full of rabbit-people!

Even after the compliment, Ji Yun-seo’s gaze stayed fixed on the balloon.

“Do you want another one?”

“Uh… huh? N-no, no!”

She shook her head, but her eyes never left it. Smiling, I picked out a puppy-shaped balloon and placed it in her hand.

“This one’s yours—the puppy balloon!”

“Huh? No, really! I don’t need another one!”

Despite her protests, I ignored them and picked up another headband.

“How about this one? Do you think it would suit Uncle?”

“Uncle, I already have a balloon…”

“Or maybe I should wear rabbit ears to match you?”

Bear ears! Bear ears! Yun-seo, grant my wish—bear ears!

☆ Rabbit Too has donated 100 Mana Stones. ☆

Rabbit’s fine, but still… bear ears! I vote bear ears!

“Hmm…”

As expected of a child, the moment I changed the subject, her attention shifted completely. After some serious thought, she finally pointed to one.

The bear ears.

“How do I look?”

“Good!”

‘The gods really aren’t in their right minds today…’

Clicking my tongue inwardly, I took Ji Yun-seo’s free hand—the one not holding the balloon.

“Alright then, shall we really get started?”

She couldn’t take her eyes off the balloon, clearly delighted by it. Gently coaxing her along, I headed toward the Viking ride.

After all, when you think of amusement parks, it’s all about Viking ships and roller coasters.

While waiting in line, I bought churros from a nearby stand and slipped one into Ji Yun-seo’s mouth. Her already round eyes grew even wider.

“Good, isn’t it?”

“Yeah!”

We’d bought only one, so we shared it between us while watching the Viking swing back and forth.

Some people came out looking pale as ghosts, others had screamed their voices raw, and some, still buzzing with excitement, jumped right back into line.

So that’s what they meant. How can anyone enjoy something that feels like dying?

They call it thrill-seeking. Supposedly, when terror overwhelms you, it feels exciting.

While we watched the crowd, the line quickly shortened.

“Let’s check the kid’s height first.”

“Yes?”

At the entrance, the staff checked our tickets, then guided Ji Yun-seo to the height chart by the gate. She was clearly shorter than the red line marking 110 cm. The staff member shook their head.

“She needs to be at least 110cm tall to ride.”

“There’s a rule like that?”

“Yes, it’s a safety regulation.”

“She’s seven years old—doesn’t that count for anything?”

“No. Regardless of age, it’s height that matters.”

After all that waiting, we were turned away. I knew Ji Yun-seo was small, but I hadn’t realized she was this small—too small even for rides that younger kids were getting on without trouble.

When I first met her, I’d thought she just looked thin, but it hadn’t crossed my mind that she might’ve been underfed to the point her growth was stunted.

☆ She’s Really Tiny has donated 100 Mana Stones. ☆

Didn’t notice from up above, but she’s not even 110cm tall… way too small.

As I stood there feeling guilty, Ji Yun-seo tugged at my hand.

“I’ll wait here. Uncle, you can go ride.”

“But Uncle wants to ride with Yun-seo. Why don’t we find something we can go on together?”

I led her toward other rides, but most of them also had height restrictions. The only ones she could take were toddler rides.

“I wanted to ride with Uncle…”

“There’ll be something we can ride together. Let’s try that one first.”

I set her onto the mini Viking ship and pulled out my phone.

It was her first ride, and she was riding alone, so nervousness was written all over her face.

That expression was so adorable I couldn’t help but snap a photo. When I called her name, she turned to me—

And just then, the mini Viking started moving.

Even though it was “mini,” the angle looked a bit steep, and I worried for a moment—but her face quickly lit up.

She screamed with delight, laughing as the ride swung back and forth, and before I knew it, I was smiling too, snapping photo after photo and recording video.

‘So this is what people mean when they say raising a daughter is fun… She’s just too cute.’

☆ Too Cuteeee has donated 100 Mana Stones. ☆

Good heavens, that smile! What am I supposed to do with it? She’s killing me with cuteness.

☆ Aether has donated 100 Mana Stones. ☆

That grin’s about to split your face. You’re dying from how cute she is. Funny—didn’t care for your own world, but you’re head over heels for her.

‘Yeah, that’s true. I don’t care for the world I created—but Yun-seo is adorable.’

“That was so much fun!”

“Really?”

“Yeah, yeah!”

With her nodding enthusiastically, I took her next to the mini roller coaster. Whether because she was a Hunter or just naturally brave, she rode it without a hint of fear.

After smoothing down her windblown hair, I handed her a drink I’d bought earlier. Her throat must have been parched from all the shouting, because she gulped it down eagerly. Then she pointed toward the bumper cars.

“Uncle, let’s ride that one!”

This time, it was a ride she could go on with an adult. With her sitting in my lap, I steered the bumper car.

As we dashed around and collided with others, Ji Yun-seo burst into laughter.

Even when I wasn’t aiming at anyone, other cars rammed into us, and every time they did, she laughed like it was the funniest thing in the world.

Most rides we tried only once, but bumper cars? We ended up riding them five times. Ji Yun-seo was completely enchanted.

* * *

I don’t know how long we’d been playing when an announcement came over the speakers: the parade was about to begin.

I took Ji Yun-seo to the very front where it would start, securing a good spot. Without noticing, the sky had already darkened.

“Aren’t you hungry?”

“I’m hungry.”

A proper meal seemed difficult here, so I bought her a hot dog just to tide her over. Right then, the parade began.

The parade, themed around flowers, filled the air with swirling petals and booming music.

Performers dressed as flowers handed out blossoms, did tumbling tricks, and spun gracefully through the crowd.

“Wow.”

Completely absorbed, Ji Yun-seo munched her hot dog without ever taking her eyes off the parade—ketchup smeared all over her lips.

I pulled out a handkerchief and wiped her mouth just as one of the performers handed her a flower.

“Have fun!”

She nodded vigorously, accepting the flower, her cheeks flushing pink. The sight of her happiness made my chest tighten.

“Uncle, I got a flower!”

Beaming, she proudly showed it off. She looked so radiant that I couldn’t tell which one was the real flower.

I hugged her a little tighter, thinking—

She could smile this sweetly all along.

But when I remembered the Ji Yun-seo from before my regression—always expressionless, always shut off from the world—the ache in my heart returned.

“You’re pretty, Yun-seo.”

* * *

By the time the parade ended, the sun had already set.

Nutritious meals are important for a growing child, but sleep is even more vital, so we left the amusement park before it got too late.

“Next time, when you’re taller, we’ll ride everything!”

“Yeah! I’m going to grow really big!”

In her tiny hands, Ji Yun-seo clutched both a balloon and a flower. The balloon would eventually deflate, but I planned to dry and preserve the flower, so she could always have something to remember this day by.

“Alright, let’s head home, wash up, eat dinner, and get a good night’s sleep.”

“Okay. But Uncle, I need the restroom.”

Now that I thought about it, she had downed plenty of water and soda throughout the day but hadn’t gone once.

I brought her to a nearby public restroom and set her down.

“I’ll be right here. Go ahead.”

“Mmhm!”

Handing me the balloon and the flower, she dashed inside with quick little steps, clearly in a hurry. I chuckled and leaned back against the wall—

And then the ground shook.

“Huh?”

It happened in an instant.

Before I could even react, the ground beneath the restroom collapsed. Right before my eyes, a familiar light erupted.

“…A Gate.”
