After leaving the Hunter Association, I stopped by a nearby bank and withdrew the money from my account.

3.02 million won—saved through skipped meals, old clothes, and juggling three part-time jobs.

Aside from the deposit on my rental, it was everything I had. Pulling it out left me feeling oddly relieved… and a little empty.

‘No, this is just pocket change now.’

I stuffed the thick wad of cash into my jacket and immediately flagged down a taxi in front of the bank.

“To Sillim-dong, please.”

I used to walk everywhere to save money, and I never understood why people splurged on taxis—but now I get it. They’re so much more comfortable than buses or subways.

I felt like a CEO. I couldn’t stop smiling.

“You can keep the change.”

I’d always wanted to say that line—just like the cool male leads in dramas.

* * *

When I got home, I opened the rusted metal gate and stepped into the semi-basement with a deep sense of satisfaction.

Without even taking off my shoes, I lifted the floor mat and pulled out the rental contract.

Just as I remembered, the lease ended exactly one month from today. Ever since I found out I was a god, luck really had been on my side.

With the contract in hand, I stepped back out—only to spot the landlady coming down from the second floor, probably on her way to the market.

“Ma’am.”

“I told you before, young man—if you keep making noise late at night—”

“Sorry about that. Actually, I just came to say I’ll be moving out. I’ve been too noisy, haven’t I?”

Her expression shifted, a flicker of confusion passing through her eyes. I chuckled inwardly.

She probably thought I was going to apologize again. That might’ve been true before—but not anymore.

“Moving? When?”

“Right now.”

“What? I don’t have the money ready! How can you just say you’re moving out like this? I need to find a new tenant!”

I knew it. No way she was going to return the deposit without a fight.

Even though I was about to become a millionaire, I still hated the idea of being pushed around—especially by someone who’d treated me like a nuisance for so long.

“I’ll need the deposit transferred by the lease end date.”

“You can’t just demand that! I need time to find another tenant! You’re still a kid—you don’t know how this stuff works…”

Although I’m on the verge of becoming a millionaire, I don’t really need that modest amount of 5 million won. However, I generally dislike the abuse of power, and I have no desire to do anything kind for a landlord who has been overly domineering.

“I’ll need the deposit transferred by the lease end date.”

“You can’t just demand that! I need time to find another tenant! You’re still a kid—you don’t know how this stuff works…”

I held out the contract and pointed.

“My lease ends next month. I checked—if I give notice a month in advance, I’m entitled to the full deposit back. I’ve already paid this month’s rent, so you’ll need to return it in full.”

“I—I don’t know anything about that! I can’t give it back until I find someone new!”

“Then I’ll have to sue for the return of the deposit.”

“What?! A lawsuit? Do you even have the money for that?!”

“I’ve awakened as a Hunter.”

‘Even if it’s just F-rank.’

No way she knew my rank, but I saw her pupils shake.

If I rank up to B or higher, my contract fees could soar into the millions. And if I joined a guild, lawsuits would be handled by their legal teams—everyone knew that.

“F-Fine! Just give me a month and a half!”

“No. The lease ends in a month. The deposit has to be returned by then. No exceptions.”

“Give me a break, will you? I just need a little more time…”

I knew she had plenty of money.

I shook my head. Her expression hardened.

“If I don’t get the deposit on the end date, I’ll sue immediately. I’ll text you my bank details.”

“What? I took you in out of pity because you were a poor orphan, and this is how you repay me?!”

Took me in out of pity?

What a joke.

Nothing good had ever come from living here.

She always acted like she was being generous—handing me expired leftovers and practically forcing me to eat them, which gave me stomach issues.

She neglected all maintenance. When the walls were molded, she threatened to kick me out unless I paid for new wallpaper—but she never replaced it, and in winter, the mold came back worse than ever.

She cut off the gas when the bill was high, and when the boiler broke, she blamed me and refused to fix it.

And despite all that, she had me doing all the heavy lifting around the property, claiming I should be grateful for the “cheap rent.”

‘This isn’t biting the hand that feeds you—it’s karma.’

Ignoring her shouting, I walked away.

The sun was setting, casting the sky in warm colors.

* * *

I caught another taxi on the main road and headed to a nearby hotel. In the lobby, a staff member greeted me.

“Do you have a reservation?”

“No. I’m planning to stay long-term.”

“How long would you like to stay?”

“For now, a week.”

I paid in cash and received my room key.

My first time staying at a hotel.

Maybe I was too excited. My heart was racing.

But then—

“…?”

As the elevator began to rise, my head suddenly spun, and my vision blurred. I clutched the handrail for support.

My palms were clammy, and a cold sweat broke out across my back.

‘What’s happening?’

– The doors are opening. –

As the elevator doors slid open, I thought to myself: I just need to get to my room and rest.

‘Maybe I caught a cold from the rain earlier? Why does my body feel…’

Each step grew heavier.

I finally made it to my room door, legs trembling with the effort.

Thump. Thump.

“Ugh.”

Pain radiated from my chest—it felt like my entire body was my heart. The pounding echoed through every inch of me.

My hand wouldn’t move to open the door, even though it was right in front of me.

‘What… What’s happening to me…?’

My knees buckled, and I collapsed on the spot.

A wave of nausea hit, and I instinctively covered my mouth—only to see blood trickling through my fingers and onto the floor.

‘Why… why am I coughing up blood…?’

Huh? Is Aether coughing up blood??

What the hell? Do humans just suddenly start coughing blood like that??

What happened?! I looked away for one second and everything’s a mess!

“Urgh…”

Another cough. More blood. The world spun around me.

☆Don’tDie has donated 100 Mana Stones.☆

Don’t die, Aether. You can’t die now.

‘Am I dying… again? Why… all of a sudden?’

“Ahh! Guest!”

I blacked out at the sound of a scream.

Everything faded to black.

‘I don’t want to die… Why is this happening to me?’

Just then, a blinding light and the voice of my brother echoed in my mind:

【Our Aether is such a fool. A human body can’t withstand divine power.】

Damn you, Corne. You could’ve told me that earlier…

* * *

When I opened my eyes, a strange white ceiling came into view.

An IV line was stuck into the back of my hand, connected to a clear bag of fluid dripping steadily.

My clothes were neatly folded on the side table—they’d changed me into a hospital gown.

‘Is this… a hospital?’

☆Don’tDie has donated 100 Mana Stones.☆

If you die, you’ll just regress again. I don’t want to start over.

☆ThoughtItWasKetchup has donated 100 Mana Stones.☆

You were coughing up so much blood, I thought it was ketchup, lol.

“Aaah…”

Even my voice was hoarse.

I forced myself upright and leaned against the wall for support.

The room was spacious—a private room, probably. I was alone.

I remembered Corne’s voice again: A human body can’t withstand divine power.

I stared at my pale palm.

I activated my divine power. A breeze stirred in my hand, and pain pierced through my chest like a knife.

“Damn…”

So it was true.

My body really couldn’t handle divine power.

“I’m screwed.”

I leaned my head back against the wall and shut my eyes.

The dream of living rich and easy—of turning Corne into a puppy after beating this ‘hero game’—had just gone up in smoke.

If I couldn’t fully harness godly power, I was just another ordinary hero trudging through suffering.

Unless… someone else fought in my place.

‘Wait a minute.’

I remembered the bet I made with my brother:

“Can a human with the power of a god prevent destruction?”

But nowhere did it say I had to do it alone.

In other words…

I could recruit ‘heroes’—A-rank or higher Hunters—and form a guild to stop the world’s end.

Unlike average people, A- and S-rank Hunters were already superhuman.

If I provided the gear and enough money, they’d want to join, right?

Besides, there were still plenty of unawakened people who’d eventually become A- or even S-rank Hunters.

‘If only I could figure out who those people were and bring them into my guild…’

The problem was identifying them before they awakened.

If I could, I could just drag them to the Awakening Center and get them started.

The Awakening Center helped potential Hunters awaken faster… but the actual odds of awakening were extremely low.

That’s why ordinary people rarely went—it cost a fortune, and the results weren’t guaranteed.

“I need to know who’s going to awaken… but how?”

Clairvoyance.

I didn’t expect it to actually show up in my skill window. I closed my eyes and began searching every corner of my soul.

Starting from the upper body, carefully…

Not in my head. Not in my torso. Not in my left hand. But then—there it was. A small bead of red light glowing at the tip of my right pinky finger.

‘That’s it—my Clairvoyance!’

I released the seal on my fingertip and gently drew the power into my soul. My originally blue soul began blending with red, turning a deep violet.

In the human world, Clairvoyance was usually known as the ability to see faraway things…

[Skill Clairvoyance has been unlocked.]

With Clairvoyance, identifying future Awakeners among ordinary people would be effortless.

Just then, the hospital room door slid open with a soft sound.

“Oh! You’re awake?”

A young woman stepped inside. She was petite, with long hair tied into twin braids, and smiled brightly, clearly relieved. I thought she might be a nurse—but she was wearing a hoodie and jeans.

“…Um, who are you?”

“I’m a room attendant from Le Mans Hotel. I was the one who found you when you collapsed. I called the ambulance and came with you to the hospital, so they listed me as your temporary guardian.”

“Ah… thank you so much.”

The woman—who had introduced herself as a room attendant—set down her small bag, took a bottle of water from the mini fridge, and handed it to me.

“They said nothing serious was wrong, but you were unconscious for three days after coughing up blood. I was really worried.”

“…Wait. Three days?”

She nodded calmly. “Yes. Today is the third day.”

I picked up my phone from the top of the fridge.

November 23rd. 2:00 PM.

The auction for my first loot—the Queen Ant’s necklace—had already started.

I carefully pulled the IV needle from my hand and forced myself up.

“Why are you getting out of bed?”

Ignoring her concern, I steadied myself on shaky legs and pushed through the pain. I reached into my folded pants and pulled out the auction ticket.

“Sir?!”

The woman sounded panicked, but I took a step forward—only for my legs to give out. I dropped to the floor.

I had to witness the moment the auction closed on my 400-billion-won investment—the foundation for building a top-tier guild of S- and A-rank Hunters. So why couldn’t I move?

“Sir, are you okay?”

The woman quickly grabbed my arm and helped me up.

If only I had a healer right now…

I activated Clairvoyance, hoping to find one nearby.

Just then, text flashed across my vision and quickly vanished:

[An Bom. 23 years old (Scheduled to Awaken as an A-rank Healer)]

Skills:

  • Whisper of Healing (A)
  • Touch of Comfort (A)
  • Poison Vanishing (B)
  • Recovery (S / Pending Acquisition)

‘A healer…? Seriously?’

Is this actually working? And a healer, of all people—here?
