The Only Woman in a Zombie Apocalypse Vol. 2 Chapter 56 - Battle with Humans (1)

Author: Nikss

At least, they were the ones who would complete this novel.

Perhaps it was because she thought of herself as nothing more than an extra passing through.

“Alright, let’s move in. I’ll take the blue building you see over there. Hayun oppa, you take the yellow building next to it. Dodam, you take the gray building on the right. Let’s surround them and take care of it.”

“What about us? What should we do?”

“Once we start shooting, they’ll have nowhere to go except forward, so they’ll run out toward the front of the building. Aim down both alleys here, and if they come out that way, pull the trigger. Can you do it?”

“Of course!!”

Dayoung hoped, as much as possible, that they wouldn’t have to shoot at people.

Shooting zombies that were no longer human and shooting living people were two different things.

Dayoung had to spend several sleepless nights after killing that leader over there. She hoped her companions wouldn’t have to go through such an experience.

Even in this dog-eat-dog world, life was still worth living.

Rather than fostering resentment toward living people, she hoped they could welcome and embrace them, just as they did now.

Others might see it as naive, but she believed it was their strength.

Helping those in need. Sharing a part of their shelter. Welcoming and cherishing others as they did for each other.

Dayoung, who wished for the few remaining living people to help and cherish one another as they built a new world, looked at her companions with a heavy heart.

Misinterpreting Dayoung’s expression, her companions crouched low and gathered close, calling out to her. They surrounded Dayoung, who was sitting in the middle, and gently embraced her. Even Hayun and Dodam.

“Noona, don’t worry about us. Hayun hyung and Dodam, come here to the middle too.”

At Kim Dohun’s words, Hayun and Dodam hesitated, then crouched down next to Dayoung.

“We’re safe here, but the three of you have to go outside. Please don’t get hurt. And let’s not blame ourselves for killing them. Okay? The survivors have to keep living, no matter what. So we’re fighting them to survive. They started this fight, so they brought this on themselves. Understood?”

“Yeah…”

“What’s with this atmosphere?”

“Just go with it. Dodam, you’ve been out on operations and have even shot people before, but this is our first time. Got it? Okay. Now, shall we do a quiet cheer?”

The group’s hands gathered in the center.

They lowered their palms to the ground in unison and shouted ‘fighting’ in quiet voices. Dayoung and Hayun handed the guns with scopes attached to Jiseok and Minshik, then took rifles and magazines and headed downstairs.

“You attached the silencers, right? The eastern barricade is tough, so we’ll break through the zombies to the southeast. Move as quietly as possible, and when you reach the second floor of the building, radio in.”

“What if they start shooting? Won’t the zombies swarm them?”

“They fired a shot over there earlier. The zombies didn’t swarm. They probably cleared the area. So we need to be careful too. We don’t know how many there are, so we have to keep a close eye on our surroundings. More than half of them were active-duty soldiers. They’ll be different from civilians. I thought they’d scatter after their sergeant leader died, but I didn’t expect them to come like this.”

“They’re bringing shame to all soldiers. Let’s take care of them all today.”

The three of them bumped their fists together and exited through the shopping mall’s back door. They walked toward the southern barricade, then crossed over it and headed east.

The group on the rooftop used binoculars to confirm the three’s position and checked the nearby area.

“Noona Dayoung, be careful of the zombie on your right. It looks like there are people behind the two buildings ahead.”

―Okay.

Dayoung moved cautiously in response to Ian’s radio message.

For close-range targets, a pistol was faster than a rifle, so Dayoung drew the pistol holstered at her waist. She loaded the suppressed pistol and advanced toward the building Ian had indicated, one careful step at a time, before leaning against a wall to catch her breath.

She peeked out slightly to confirm the man. Fortunately, he was standing with his back turned, and Dayoung pulled the trigger without hesitation.

Bang—

The sound of the gunshot, muffled by the suppressor, rang in her ears. The man fell with the gunshot, and Dayoung quickly moved on to the next destination.

“Hayun, zombie on your right. Dodam went behind the building on the left with people.”

―Copy.

―Okay.

Thanks to Ian and Jiseok on the rooftop keeping an eye on the area, the three were able to advance quickly and comfortably.

It was a bit of a detour, but since their destination wasn’t far, it didn’t take long for the three to arrive nearby.

Their building came into view, and the three were able to pass by them and head to the buildings further back. They each entered their respective buildings and settled on the second floor.

Dayoung looked out the window at them.

The two men who were chased out of the shopping mall and the ones who had the real Dayoung and even had a plaything with them.

Three people killed on the way here. So the remaining number is eight.

Dayoung checked the men and sent a radio message to the shopping mall side.

“We’re here. There are 8 currently. If we shoot, they’ll definitely run out. Aim well. Understood?”

―Okay!

Dayoung took a deep breath and pointed the muzzle toward the men.

After aiming was done, Dayoung spoke quietly,“Tango aim complete.”

―Complete.

―Complete!

“Hit on three. Take out the closest tangos first.”

―Okay.

―Wilco.

“One. Two. Three.”

Pwing— Pwing— Pwing—

The sound of cutting through the wind flowed from the silencer, and the men began to fall one by one.

As the person standing next to them fell bleeding, the men quickly raised their guns, but the three people’s guns were faster.

Two men in the corner ran toward the front of the building.

Dayoung confirmed that all the men at the back of the building had fallen and counted the number.

‘Six…’

Six men had fallen. Shortly after, a radio message came from the shopping mall.

―Two came out next to the building? Took care of both.

“Right. Two went out. Just in case, keep watch around for about 10 minutes. There might be people hiding.”

―Okay.

At Dayoung’s words, the group on the rooftop used all the telescopes on the rooftop to check the surroundings.

“Noona. There’s a person with a gun on the rooftop of the building diagonally to the right toward the shopping mall. Looks like they’re watching toward Dodam’s building. Dodam, don’t stick your face out the window, stay hidden.”

―Building height?

“Noona, your building is taller.”

―Okay.

―On my side?

“Yeah. The window you’re at seems to be the most visible from that building.”

At Dohun’s words, Dayoung quickly went up to the building’s rooftop. She was out of breath up to her neck, but with the thought that she had to catch the man before he disappeared, she gasped for air and carefully opened the rooftop door.

Approaching the railing and peeking her head out, she saw a man aiming his gun toward the building where Dodam was.

Dayoung quickly grabbed her gun, took her stance, and steadied her breathing.

It seemed her aim was off because of her breathing, so Dayoung held her breath and pulled the trigger.

Pwing—

The man fell, and a radio message came through to Dohun.

―Seems like he’s gone now.

“Got it. It seems like there are more than the usual number of people. Dohun, keep a little more watch around the perimeter.”

―Okay.

With the message that everything was clear, the three of them exited the building.

Dayoung, looking at the fallen men, let out a sigh and spoke, “We have plenty of guns, so let’s just take the magazines. I have a feeling we’re going to run short on ammo.”

“Yeah.”

The three collected the magazines from the guns of the men lying bleeding on the ground, as well as the magazines from their pockets.

Dayoung looked at the faces of the fallen men.

Seeing the familiar faces, the real Dayoung’s memories automatically surfaced.

— ‘Sergeant! We brought back some food today!’

— ‘Oh. Well done. Then, as a reward, I’ll borrow Dayoung for the day.’

— ‘Thank you, Captain!’

The four men slung a resisting Dayoung over their shoulders like a piece of luggage and headed to their quarters.

A place where nine people lived together.

They set her down not in a corner but right in the middle, and stripped off her clothes. The men slapped Dayoung’s face as she struggled and said no, tied her hands and feet forcibly, and left her naked.

Tears streamed from Dayoung’s eyes at the men’s glistening gazes, but they paid her no mind and were merciless.

A man shoved his cock into her without even untying her.

Another pressed the muzzle of a gun to her head and into her mouth.

Other men watched her and masturbated.

Dayoung wanted to die, but she also wanted to live. All she could do was close her eyes and let her body be shaken by their movements.

“How disgusting.”

Even though it wasn’t something she had experienced herself, the memory that occupied a corner of her mind was so filthy and painful it made her nauseous.

Dayoung drew the pistol tucked at her waist again and aimed the muzzle at the men’s faces.

Pew—pew—pew—

Only when the men’s faces were shot and became unrecognizable did Dayoung feel her rage subside.
