An esper’s side effects are as severe as their supernatural abilities are great enough to save a nation. If they fail to receive guiding in time and go into a rampage, not only the esper who rampaged but also their surroundings will be swept up in high-concentration energy. An esper’s rampage was, in a word, a catastrophe. The duty of a guide, the duty of Baek Heeheon, was to prevent such a great disaster from occurring.

“If I can’t guide you, the proper procedure is to call for an emergency guide to take my place. That’s just an extremely natural principle. So what are you going to do?”

“…”

“Should I call them? Then I’ll go rest, too.”

At that, as if he could no longer hold back, Cha Moogyul’s expression changed.

“Ha.”

His eyes, blazing with scorching indignation and rage, were like two suns. Burning with a white-hot incandescence, he likewise kicked back his chair, stood up, and cornered the anxious Heeheon against the wall. His large, muscular frame descended upon Heeheon, trapping him against a dead-end wall.

“So, hyung. Are you telling me to call some guide I don’t even know and have him rub up against me, is that what you mean…?”

He criticized him violently, as if the idea were preposterous. Of course, that was not what Heeheon meant.

“No. I’m saying I’ll fulfill my responsibility and complete my duty, so don’t stop me.”

“Fuck, you’re just dripping with cold sweat. A lot of good you’ll do, looking like a sick puppy. Baek Heeheon. Cut it out and listen to me.”

“Please… I’m telling you, I’ll do it. I’ll guide you!”

Pinned against the wall, Heeheon struck Cha Moogyul’s chest with his clenched fist. This son of a bitch, it was impossible to know if he was genuinely concerned for Baek Heeheon or just trying to stir up his resentment. The frustration rising to his throat was enough to make him sick with anger.

“Why are you being like this? You, Cha Moogyul, you told me to live. You just told me to live with you… Then shouldn’t you at least let me live in a way that I can?”

As it was, Heeheon was already in a precarious situation. His mind and body were exhausted to their limits, the situation had been pushed to an extreme, and Cha Moogyul was still Cha Moogyul. But in this state, if he couldn’t even guide him properly and had to back down like this, then Baek Heeheon would truly become nothing.

“If I collapse while guiding you, then I’m fine with that. It doesn’t matter at all. But, if I just play the role of your breeding mare all night and then can’t even do my guiding properly, then what am I?”

After experiencing a major failure as a guide once, he had resolved never to get swept up like that again.

“You told me I wasn’t a toilet… Then what am I… I’m your guide. I want to guide you.”

The things that had swelled up like soap bubbles. Heeheon’s resolutions, wishes, hopes, things like that came to mind. Although they were empty promises with no real effect, and although Baek Heeheon had achieved nothing by Cha Moogyul’s side, and although he had been so desperate as to try to take his own life, if Heeheon was really going to struggle and confront him somehow, he felt he had to start right here, right now.

“National hero, what’s all that about? Those people in the general district, why do they welcome us like that! I, honestly, am no different from a puppet just coasting along on the stage you’ve set, but still, I don’t want to just sit back, play dumb, receive the hero treatment, and then wipe my mouth clean…!”

Heeheon once again struck his chest with his clenched fist. With his limp, strength-drained arm, he couldn’t even push him away. Heeheon was truly going crazy. The guiding wasn’t going his way, Cha Moogyul wasn’t going his way, it just felt like this world, his mother, the people, the Center and the Ministry of Defense, everything was deviating and straying from Baek Heeheon’s wishes.

And yet he had been trying to pull himself together and make an effort.

Because Cha Moogyul said he would accept it, he had been about to try to struggle.

Because Cha Moogyul said he had fallen for him, he thought they were of the same mind.

‘Honey, darling, am I the only one you want to do? Huh? You bastard, the likes of whom this world has never seen!’

Heeheon continued to hit him with his cotton-puff fists, then, annoyed, he grabbed him by the collar. He even made a vow that next time, after his body had recovered, he would beat Cha Moogyul up. It felt like only a refreshing slap across his handsome face could relieve this sorrow.

“So, if I’m going to keep on living and not die, I really have to guide you, Cha Moogyul, properly… and devote myself to training… and risk my life to go to the battlefield and fight creatures…! I have to live as an awakened being, do you understand?”

Heeheon’s breaths came out in rapid bursts, and his eyes were bloodshot with a mixture of anger and hurt. The back pressed against the hard wall was cold, but their locked gazes were fierce and hot. And just a few centimeters away lay Cha Moogyul’s flushed face. The cry, which was no different from a scream, became a hollow echo, resounding in the valley carved between the two of them.

As expected, once you peel back a layer, you see a chasm of emotion this dizzyingly deep. It was uncertain if they could ever fill such a terrible and wretched cliff. They were polar opposites, stimulants who caused harm to the other by their mere existence.

“…”

“…”

Cha Moogyul gave no answer to Heeheon’s outcry. In the restrained silence, what the two needed to share at that moment was not conversation, but action.

In a fateful moment, an invisible spark instantly ignited between the two.

Their lips closed the distance and collided, without either being able to say who was first, and they continued the guiding with a kiss so fierce it felt almost like a crash. It was an urgent and non-negotiable, desperate struggle. And it was an explosion of suppressed passion and obsession for the other.

Teeth clashed, lips were bruised, and they tangled their tongues, mixing indignation and desire. Their chests trembled violently as their cores connected, and they pushed the guiding to its limit while becoming one. Due to his completely depleted core, Heeheon felt extreme pain, but he did not stop the kiss.

He brazenly completed the guiding to the very end and reached out his arms to hold Cha Moogyul. It was the same for him. He wrapped both arms around Heeheon’s waist to keep him from collapsing, and Heeheon, too, hugged his broad back with all his might.

At the same time, the intensity of their rough contact slowly began to change.

The arms clutching each other gradually loosened, and the kiss, which had been as savage as a raging storm at sea, softened somewhat.

What had begun with quarrels and clashes, anger and explosions, now led to a reunion as the guiding ended.

“Hah, mmm.”

“Hoo…”

The kiss deepened, growing more intense. Heated breaths began to leak out as their entangled bodies pressed closer, and their touches also changed. Cha Moogyul swept a hand down Heeheon’s waist and caressed his neck and cheek with the other. The thumb brushing his earlobe was hot. The wall that had been pressing against Heeheon’s back no longer felt cold.

‘Was Cha Moogyul really worried about my well-being?’

Purely, just because Baek Heeheon looked like he was struggling…?

‘Still. I really…’

Rather than becoming someone Cha Moogyul had to worry about and take care of, Heeheon wanted to be a partner who was acknowledged for doing his job to the very end.

At any time, he could do his part, he could be proud as a guide, Cha Moogyul could entrust his back to him, this was Baek Heeheon—he wanted to show him that clearly.

Heeheon pulled his head back, panting breathlessly. He held Cha Moogyul so fully he seemed to overflow in his arms and looked into his eyes, which were filled with an absolute desire and worship for the guiding.

“Hh, see…”

And he smiled a faint, gentle smile, like the moonlight on the last night of the lunar month.

“I told you I could handle it.”

His heart pounded with a fierce beat.

At the end of the emotional waves that had relentlessly risen and fallen, a deep sense of relief washed over his entire body. It had been an arduous journey, but the accomplishment he finally grasped was sweet, and so, even with his battered body, he was soaked in pride and felt content. Along with a sense of liberation whose origin he couldn’t identify, a quiet joy even arose.

“Yeah.”

Cha Moogyul replied brusquely as their lips overlapped once more. The two people, standing on the edge of different kinds of cliffs, coveted each other again. Tongues intertwined and lips were bitten, with neither being the first. It was as if they couldn’t be separated for even a moment, even if they were to fall, entangled like this.

Breaths mingled and intense gazes were exchanged, and in their hearts flowed an undercurrent of desire and unresolved emotions far greater than what was visible on the surface. Though they had only pressed their lips together, the ecstasy that reached its peak was beyond words.

Disharmony. Absurdity. Discord. Two polar opposites who did not suit each other, but the solid connection and union felt now was an undeniable truth. There were only the two of them.

After kissing endlessly, ceaselessly like that, their panting subsided, and they leaned against each other with their foreheads touching. Heeheon, whose blurry eyes were wide open, tilted his head back to look at him. A dark shadow was cast gloomily over his head, but perhaps because his vision had adjusted, the view ahead seemed a little brighter than before.

For some reason, it felt like they were seeing each other for the first time.

It seemed they were truly facing one another.
