In this world, there is an evil force that has cursed the Ravenwood family. This force is called the “Evil God,” but the game was so unfriendly that even I couldn’t learn any more information about it.

‘So, maybe…’

Could it be that one of the four survivors is connected to the “Evil God”? If the Evil God can’t directly intervene in everything, using humans wouldn’t be strange. Then, perhaps the person who imprisoned Adolf last time is also connected to the Evil God.

“…Enough with the thanks. Take care of Lillith. You don’t know where she is, do you?”

For now, I casually spoke to Evan and then went outside to look for Lillith.

‘I have no idea.’

Except for Havel, who was fast asleep, everyone was looking at me with innocent eyes, as if they knew nothing.

‘No way… it can’t be. If it is, that would mean they’re pretending to have that expression.’

At that moment, I heard someone crying.

“Sob…”

Oh, it’s Lilith!

“Sob…”

Lillith was hiding in a corner, crying where no one could see her. I went back to Evan.

“Lillith is behind the wall, so you handle comforting her.”

After guiding Evan to Lillith, I suddenly felt a wave of exhaustion and returned to my task-oriented form. I had never felt tired before, but today, for some reason, I was extremely fatigued. I had worked hard helping the survivors, and all I got in return was a warning message. I couldn’t believe that there might be someone among them connected to the Evil God

‘Ah… maybe I shouldn’t have helped.’

My moment of lament was brief, as I suddenly thought of Basileon, who was in an even worse situation than me. It was an impulsive decision, but I flew into his bedroom. Fortunately, Vasilion was Basileon with a calm expression. Seeing that, I felt, for the first time in a while, the desire to sleep by myself.

But can an evil spirit really sleep? I wasn’t sure if I could truly sleep in my spirit form…I crouched under the bed. Before I knew it, I had fallen asleep.

*   *   *

A faint bluish-silver flickering across my eyelids.

“Hmm…”

It was moonlight. Has it already become night?

“No! What about the survivors?”

I woke up with a start. What if someone had died while I was asleep? I quickly opened the map in the status window.

[Map]

! Basileon Ravenwood: 〈4th Floor〉 Bedroom

! Mary Crow: 〈3rd Floor〉 Hallway

! Havel Acron: 〈5th Floor〉 Vault

! Lillith Garrett: 〈2nd Floor〉 Food Storage

! Evan Martinez: 〈1st Floor〉 Main Hall

The survivors were managing the game well on their own… Wait. Basileon Ravenwood is in the bedroom? I spun around in surprise, but Basileon was still lying comfortably on the bed.

[Basileon Ravenwood]

◇ Intimacy: ???

◇ Anger: ???

I’d never seen Basileon sleep ‘at night’ before.

“What on earth…”

I wondered if he might be pretending, so I took a closer look—but he was genuinely asleep, breathing softly.

‘I need to go check on Adolf.’

All the cursed beings in this castle serve the master, Basileon.

‘Adolf serves Basileon too, and he might even know more than I do.’

I flew to Adolf, who was in the armory, to get some advice. I kept an eye on the map at all times in case Basileon moved again, so there was no problem.

“Adolf!”

“What… Evil Spirit. Why have you come?”

Seeing me flying over, Adolf greeted me coldly.

“Wait. Weren’t we supposed to be friends? Why are you so cold?”

“…Ahem.”

“Don’t be like that, Adolf. Your master is acting strange. It’s night, and he’s just lying there asleep without moving!”

“…Young Master?”

Adolf suddenly rolled over on his side upon hearing that. Perhaps because it was a shield, he rolled over easily.

“Huh? What’s with the sudden rolling over?”

“Just a habit.”

“…”

I couldn’t help but let out a short laugh. For now, I was curious why Adolf called him “young master.”

“But hey… ‘young master’? Basileon is the head of the Ravenwood family, isn’t he?”

“Well, I used to play with him a lot when he was little. To me, he’s still the young master. He was really fond of me, you know.”

“You? How did you play with him?”

“I let him run around freely here in the armory, played hide-and-seek, and even acted as his swordsmanship teacher.”

“Oh, I see. Then we’ll be close.”

Adolf fell into thought, reminiscing about old memories in response to my question.

“I’ve been trapped here for so long that I haven’t seen the young master in ages. Why is he just sleeping?”

“I don’t know either. Lately, the atmosphere has been really dark. Maybe it’s because he’s been having nightmares all the time.”

“Hmm…”

After a moment of thought, Adolf summoned the weapons.

“Everyone, come here for a moment. You—don’t listen. Cover your ears, Evil Spirit.”

“What? You’re talking secrets without me? Let me in! Come on, let me in too!”

I tried to cling on and listen, but they huddled tightly together, making sure I couldn’t butt in.

‘These guys must’ve forgotten I’m an evil spirit!’

I lightly phased through them and leaned in to listen to Adolf, but it seemed the conversation had already ended.

‘Huh.’

“Enough.”

“What? What happened?”

“You bring the young master to the banquet hall. We’ll be waiting there.”

“Huh? Didn’t you say we had to guard the armory at night!”

“Rapier!”

Swish—.

At Adolf’s command, several rapiers flew through the air.

“While I’m gone, you’ll guard this place. Can you manage that?”

The rapiers nodded.

“Alright. If anything happens, have one of you fly to the banquet hall.”

“Such a plan… What on earth are you planning to do at the banquet hall?”

“Stop talking and just bring the young master. You noisy evil spirit…”

“How am I supposed to bring him? He’s sleeping right now.”

“That’s for you to handle with your own abilities, Evil Spirit.”

What an unfriendly shield. I glared at Adolf once and flew back to Basileon’s bedroom.

“….”

Basileon was still sleeping peacefully. Didn’t he have nightmares at night? I called out to him cautiously.

“Ba…Basileon.”

“Um…”

Basileon tossed and turned slightly.

“Basileon Ravenwood!”

When I shouted loudly, Basileon opened his eyes and suddenly sat up, looking out the window.

“Moon…”

He checked his watch and frowned.

“Have I been asleep all this time?”

“Mhm.”

“Evien. You knew about this—so why did you wake me only now?”

It felt like he was blaming me. He was the one who had slept comfortably, so why…Feeling a bit hurt, I pouted without realizing it.

“What do you mean, ‘only now’? Do you think I’m your servant or something?”

“….”

“And besides, you looked so comfortable sleeping that I just couldn’t bring myself to wake you.”

Basileon stared at me with an expressionless gaze.

“I… can’t sleep comfortably. I mustn’t.”

I frowned without realizing it. His words felt as if he were punishing himself.

“Why?”

“All of this is something I must bear. The fact that you became an evil spirit, that we no longer follow our purpose… all of it.”

I couldn’t quite understand what Basileon meant. But it felt as though he was trying to shoulder everything all by himself.

“But…!”

I wanted to say something that might help, but it didn’t feel right to speak carelessly when I didn’t even understand the situation. So for now…it seemed better to offer comfort through action rather than words.

“Basileon. There’s something I want to show you first… will you come with me?”

If Adolf was Basileon’s swordsmanship teacher when he was young, they must have been very close. If they hadn’t seen each other in a long time, wouldn’t Basileon be really happy?

“…Yeah.”

Basileon answered listlessly.

* * *

I successfully woke Basileon and led him to the banquet hall.

‘Old man Adolf, you must be feeling great. He seems to like Basileon quite a lot.’

Basileon, who was following me, asked.

“Where are you going?”

“It’ll be boring if I tell you now! Ugh!”

Alright, first I need to check who’s around—just in case.

[Map]

! Basileon Ravenwood: 〈4th Floor〉 Staircase going down

! Havel Acron: 〈3rd Floor〉 Hallway

Havel was nearby.

‘Phew. That useless Havel…’

When we reached the 3rd floor, I whistled beside Basileon to deliberately catch his attention. Thanks to that, we managed to go down without Havel being noticed. Basileon seemed much happier than before.

[Basileon Ravenwood]

◇ Intimacy: 44%

◇ Anger: 67%

‘Oh! I can finally see it!’

For some reason, both the intimacy and anger levels had increased since last time. The anger level shows how filled with rage Basileon currently is. Intimacy represents his closeness with me, but the anger level is different. It likely meant that Basileon had been under a lot of stress for several days. I wasn’t sure why the value had shown up as a question mark before, though.

“We’re almost there!”

I guided Basileon to the banquet hall on the 1st floor.

‘What on earth did Adolf call me here for?’

Just in case, I pressed my ear against the banquet hall door, but I couldn’t hear a sound.

“Hmm. Let’s go in!”

Basileon opened the door for me. But the banquet hall was completely dark, and I couldn’t see anything.

“Why here?”

And the moment Basileon took a step forward, we were met with a completely unexpected sight.
