Basileon descended the stairs and soon disappeared completely from my sight.
Srrr…Tak.
After my legs gave out and I collapsed, I immediately released the possession.
“Ouch… My head hurts.”
Havel, freed from the possession, slowly regained his senses.
“Whoa! Scone! Madeleine! Éclair! Something delicious! Something delicious!”
Havel’s eyes sparkled as he looked at the remaining desserts from the afternoon tea set he was holding.
“Wow!”
I left Havel to his own devices and quietly followed behind Basileon.
When I caught up to him, Basileon was staggering down the corridor, one hand pressed to his forehead as if in pain.
‘He said we have to kill humans—did that happen because I didn’t listen to him…? …Well, anyway, since nobody got killed, that’s a good thing.’
Basileon’s fading figure left behind nothing but questions.

The first night passed, and morning came.
Along with a notification that I had met the entry conditions for 〈The Curse of the Ravenwood Family – True Ending〉, two new systems appeared: 〈Daytime〉 and 〈Survival Mode〉.
With Survival Mode now activated, the game had turned into an extreme endurance challenge—one where I had to survive through both day and night.
During the daytime, Basileon fell under a curse that put him into a deep sleep—so there was no chance he’d come chasing after anyone for a while.
Because the only time he was active… was during the night.
Tears of emotion welled up in my eyes—it had been so long since I last felt the warmth of sunlight.
Because in a world where only night kept repeating, there had never been a chance to see the sun.
Meanwhile, in a small cabin on the Ravenwood estate—
The survivors had banded together tightly, determined to join forces and stay alive.
“Hehe! Hey, guys!”
I poked my head out from between the four survivors huddled together.
“Kyaaaaak!”
Mary fell backward in surprise, Lilith shot me a glare, Evan stayed expressionless, and Havel… was completely absorbed in eating something.
“Get out of here!”
Lilith brandished a bottle filled with some kind of liquid, threateningly pointing it at me.
“Mhm? W, wait, don’t tell me that’s holy water?”
“Yeah. Don’t come any closer. We don’t need something like you around.”
Splash!
Lilith sprayed the liquid in the vial at me, but I quickly moved to dodge.
Holy water was one of the few items capable of harming both me and Basileon, the accursed spirits bound to this place.
[Lilith Garrett]
◇ Speed ★★★★★
◇ Agility ☆★★★★
◇ Mental Strength ☆☆★★★
◇ Endurance ☆☆☆★★
Among the four survivors, she was the fastest, most intelligent, and quickest to make decisions.
She was the only survivor who knew the weakness of an evil spirit like me.
In the end, I failed to join the survivors’ conversation and pretended to run away.
It might be a bit difficult to show myself openly because of Lilith.
Because after all, I’m not human—I’m an evil spirit.
First, I phased through the ground and poked just my ears out from the soil beneath their feet to eavesdrop on their conversation.
“The evil spirit is the second most dangerous being after the Duke of Ravenwood. And holy water is one of the few items that can harm both the evil spirit and the Duke.”
“…So that’s why you pretended ordinary water was holy water?”
In the conversation led by Lilith, I heard Evan’s voice.
Evan was a survivor with decent stats and a righteous heart.
‘…I’ve been tricked. That wasn’t holy water—it was just regular water.’
Peeking from the soil with just my eyes above ground, I caught sight of Evan’s platinum hair fluttering in the wind.
A handsome man with platinum hair and brown eyes.
Hmm… could it be that Basileon disliked me when I possessed him because of that appearance?
But that’s too much jealousy… right?
“No…”
As I was wondering whether Basileon would even have a reason to feel jealous, someone spoke up.
It was Havel’s voice.
“Havel. What’s wrong all of a sudden?”
“Nothing…”
“What do you mean, nothing?”
“There’s no soup. We’re out of food.”
“That goes for us too.”
Even though Evan replied firmly, Havel kept whining.
That guy… he’s whining for more food again over there. Ugh, what a troublesome glutton.
Because Survival Mode was added, the survivors also have to manage meals during the daytime. That’s why Havel is whining like that.
Meals had to be prepared using the ingredients available within the Ravenwood estate. Since supplies weren’t abundant, they had to make do and survive carefully.
“If you devour everything at once, there’ll be nothing left for tomorrow or the day after. Havel, control yourself.”
Evan responded firmly, cutting off Havel’s whining.
Then Havel slumped down, pouting dejectedly.
“Anyway, Miss Lilith, you mean that the evil spirit hates holy water, right?”
There are four playable survivors.
The one speaking now is Mary Crow, a maid of an unnamed noble. She had come here following her master, only to end up in this predicament.
Mary is a quirky, four-dimensional character with traits of a master of disguise and an inventor.
“Yes. As I mentioned earlier, the Holy Water is effective not only against spirits but also against Duke Ravenwood.”
Lilith answered.
“On a different note, that spirit actually looks easy to imitate. If you mess up its hair and cover its whole body in blood, it would be perfect. Havel, don’t you think it would look scary?”
Mary asked Havel, who was sadly staring at the empty soup bowl.
He’s already thinking of copying me just by looking at me!
Usually, when people think of an evil spirit, they’d shudder and try to avoid it—but Mary, surprisingly, isn’t exactly sane either.
In fact, aside from Evan, everyone else was crazy—in a different sense, of course.
“My soup…”
“Huh… Stop talking about soup! Who doesn’t want to eat more?”
Mary seemed angry at Havel for ignoring her.
Havel was also the second son of a respected marquis family, but in a situation like this, social status didn’t matter at all.
In fact, the maid Mary, who knew more than Havel, would probably be more useful.
Anyway, ever since the status window for the ‘True Ending’ appeared, my goal has been to keep every survivor alive.
Whether it’s Havel, Mary, or anyone else—no one must die. Not even the bald noble.
Except for these four playable characters, the rest of the survivors must be trapped in another space due to the curse.
The four chosen ones won’t be visible until they complete all the quests in the manor.
Since I know this game best, I have to persuade these four to help—but it’s really difficult.
Especially seeing how much Lilith dislikes me like that, it reminds me of what happened in the previous game.
An incident that gave me a glimpse into the relationship between Basileon and Evien.
* * *
Before the reset, in the previous game…
Lilith knew that I, being an evil spirit, was vulnerable to fire.
Lilith has a history of luring me into the Mirror Room to trap me.
“Burn to death.”
Swish—.
The object Lilith threw flew to the center of the Mirror Room, and in an instant, it caught fire.
Whoosh!
The center of the room held wooden furniture. Whether it was oiled or not, it caught fire very easily.
The raging flames reflected in all the mirrors surrounding the room.
Seeing the fire reflected in the mirrors, a creeping sense of anxiety and fear began to stir somewhere deep within me.
‘Why on earth?’
I’m an evil spirit, so I shouldn’t be able to burn to death or even feel the heat.
Perhaps fire was one of the weaknesses of an evil spirit.
The growing sense of fear began to torment me.
“Ugh…!”
My head throbbed as if it were splitting apart. I was clearly not human—just an evil spirit.
At that moment…
“Lady Montrose!”
‘This voice…’
“Lady Montrose!”
I started hallucinating.
“Are you there? Please… answer me.”
I’m even hallucinating.
What I saw in that hallucination was a familiar face.
That person, approaching me through the flames, was Basileon.
But why was Basileon wearing such a hollow expression, as if he had lost the entire world?
“No. Please…”
‘He’s tall and big, but his face looks so gentle… So why is he crying?’
Through the strands of hair partially covering his face, his right black eye watched me with an anxious gaze.
Was I still hallucinating? It was a moment of utter confusion.
In the illusion, Basileon reached out to embrace me, but the attempt was meaningless—his arms simply passed through my transparent body.
Had I gone mad, or was it all just a dream?
“Don’t cry. You’ll ruin that pretty face.”
The words escaped my lips.
At my words, Basileon’s eyes grew moist, and once again a single tear formed.
The right black eye, glistening with tears, looked like stars scattered across the night sky, while the left red eye shimmered like a glowing ruby.
His beautiful eyes looked unbearably sad. I wondered what could make him feel so sorrowful—and somehow, as if it were contagious, my own heart ached too.
“Sorry… for bringing back such unpleasant memories.”
Basileon looked at me and apologized.
Only then did I realize that the Basileon before me was real.
Just a moment ago, it had definitely been a hallucination—but before I knew it, I must have returned to reality.
At that moment, I began to understand—just a little.
I couldn’t tell the exact nature of their relationship, but it was clear that Evien Montrose had definitely burned to death. Basileon had tried to save her—but failed.
That was the scene I saw in my hallucination.
For some reason, Lilith didn’t run away, but sat blankly in the mirrored room.
Basileon wiped his tears, stood up, and walked toward Lilith.
Without hesitation, he pulled out his flemberge.
“Die….”
