“I was disappointed too.”

Basileon let out a dry cough.

“But there might be another opportunity like this next time. So, let’s not be disappointed.”

“….”

Perhaps due to the lingering aftereffects of a moment ago, Basileon didn’t look back at me.

‘…Was he that disappointed?’

I was also unnecessarily fidgeting with my hands out of disappointment.

“Eve. I have a favor to ask of you.”

“What is it?”

“It’s about the music box the survivors took. I can’t go, so I was hoping you could keep an eye on it for me…”

“Ah. Are you worried that music box might deceive the survivors?”

“Yes. I hope it’s just my groundless fear, and it would be wonderful if it truly was my sister inside… but unfortunately, the possibility of that is almost zero.”

‘No way.’

If the thing inside was an illusion created by the evil god… that would be too shocking. Still, I understand why Basileon is worried. Because he said it was the evil god who brainwashed him using the illusion of Chera.

“Okay. I understand.”

“And…”

Basileon slowly turned around just now. Even so, whatever was making him so shy caused him to avert his gaze as soon as our eyes met.

“It was nice to be able to feel your warmth, even for a moment.”

“Ah…”

As I grew a bit flustered, Basileon also couldn’t hide his awkwardness.

“I didn’t mean it in a strange way, I mean….”

“I didn’t say anything.”

“….”

I smiled playfully.

“I know what you mean. I also know it doesn’t mean that. I liked it too. Next time there’s an opportunity like that, let’s… yeah.”

I left Basileon standing there bewildered and flew up. Glancing at the window, it seemed like it was almost time for the sun to rise.

‘It’s almost time for Basileon to fall asleep…’

“Then I’m going!”

I left the place to do Basileon’s favor. His reaction of not knowing what to do with himself was cute and amusing. We were almost like a boy and a girl just getting to know the opposite sex for the first time. The feeling of that skin and the cozy warmth I felt earlier were so nice.

“….”

I unnecessarily fidgeted with my palms.

*   *   *

“…I-I was the one who pushed her.”

‘Huh?’

I checked the survivors’ location on the map and flew to them, but the atmosphere was bad. I first hid myself to eavesdrop on their conversation. The four survivors were talking about what happened in the passage.

“Lilith. I’m the one who pushed you in the passage.”

Mary confessed to her action. She was trembling all over, afraid of something.

“But Mary. You were definitely at the very back, weren’t you?”

“You saw… wrong. I pushed you. I did.”

“…”

Lilith raised an eyebrow, finding Mary’s claim doubtful. Moreover, Mary still didn’t seem in her right mind. Evan, who had been rarely seen, was standing in the corner with his arms crossed. Havel was sitting out of Evan’s sight, eating something. It was a total mess. The relationship among the survivors had gone bad.

“Mary. You say you pushed me, but I find that very hard to believe.”

“I pushed you! I’m telling you I pushed you!”

Mary got angry at Lilith, who didn’t believe her words. Lilith’s expression hardened, unable to understand that attitude at all.

“Then why did you push me?”

“Because I was scared. It was a selfish thought. That if someone is sacrificed, maybe I would be safe…”

Then Evan, who had been quietly watching the situation from the corner, uncrossed his arms and slowly stepped forward.

“….”

Havel, who had been quietly chewing on bread or something, also jumped up when he saw Evan move. And he stepped ahead of Evan and stood tall in front of Lilith.

‘Since when does that slow guy move so fast?’

“It’s not Mary. The one who pushed Lilith was Evan.”

Havel pointed his finger at Evan. Then he stuffed the bread he was holding in his other hand back into his mouth and started chewing on it. It was a very resolute attitude.

“You shut up for a moment!”

Evan cursed at Havel in a voice that sounded utterly sick and tired.

“You pushed her, Evan. While smiling. It was chilling.”

“You just ate all day, and now has your appetite taken over your brain so your thinking has stopped? Why would I push Lilith? You’re the one who pushed her. I saw it clearly with my two eyes.”

Lilith looked back and forth between Evan and Havel, who were pointing at each other, leaving aside the person claiming to be the perpetrator. She was definitely feeling betrayed. Regardless of who the culprit was, she must not want to believe the fact that she was pushed.

“….”

Her gaze, which had been alternating between the two, eventually settled on Evan.

“Why… Why me…”

Evan let out a shallow laugh as if he absolutely couldn’t believe Lilith’s choice.

“Ha. Why are you suspecting me? Why on earth?”

‘Well… obviously because you’re more suspicious than Havel, Evan.’

Wouldn’t Lilith’s feelings be similar to mine?

“Evan. Why… did you do such a thing?”

“I didn’t do it!”

“Don’t tell me you’ve been carrying out Its orders… No, or maybe that was your purpose from the beginning.”

“…How can you judge me after only hearing such fragmentary information, Lilith?”

Evan clenched his fist tightly. And he stared at Havel standing right next to him.

“Why do I have to be misunderstood like this because of one stupid person like you who only knows how to eat?”

Evan shot a glare full of hatred at Havel, not hiding his feeling of disgust.

“Or are you… is this all really an act?”

Evan looked devastated, like someone who had truly been deceived.

“Tell me. What was your motive for pushing Lilith? Tell me that you have a hideous side masked by stupidity and a peculiar appetite.”

But Havel gave no answer. He just focused on the act of chewing what was in his mouth. Evan gnashed his teeth, shuddering with disgust now.

‘Could it be, is it real?’

If Evan is related to the evil god, he’s a god of acting. If not… The behavior he was showing now was the reaction of a truly falsely accused person.

“I must have only been that much of a person to you.”

“…!”

Evan no longer made any effort to persuade Lilith. It was a reaction that seemed to show all his remaining affection had fallen away. Lilith opened and closed her mouth as if to say something.

‘Since she’s been harboring an unrequited love for Evan all this time, I suppose…’

However, Lilith couldn’t bring herself to speak in the end.

“Act. He’s acting. Evan, you’re too much.”

Evan glared at Havel, who was grating on his nerves beside him, and stood in front of the door to leave the room.

“…Let’s see how well you do without me. With a person like that traitor by your side.”

And after leaving these words as his last, he left the room. Lilith stood in front of the door as if to follow Evan. But she hesitated as if to touch the doorknob, and eventually stepped back without a word. Did reason precede emotion? She wouldn’t be able to discard her feelings for Evan immediately, but she couldn’t trust someone suspected because of it. Lilith standing in front of the door with a complex expression. Havel chewing on food blankly without a thought. Mary trembling all over, seemingly anxious. Evan left, and these three people remained in the room.

“…”

Only an unpleasant silence ensued. The music box was placed neatly in one corner of the room. There didn’t seem to be any particular problem.

‘For now, I need to follow Evan.’

Swoosh—.

I flew back up into the sky.

*   *   *

I carefully followed Evan from behind without being noticed.

‘Where is he going?’

Just because he looked a little falsely accused didn’t mean I could withdraw all suspicion. His back looked lonely and pitiful. Evan let out heavy sighs as he headed somewhere. And he kept looking back as if to check if anyone was following him. Fortunately, I was able to avoid being caught by flying high up where I couldn’t be seen. A moment later, the place he arrived at was the main hall of the Duke’s castle. It was a place with spiral staircases on both sides, and a giant statue situated in the center.

‘…Why here?’

Evan finally checked if anyone was following him, then stood in front of the statue situated in the center. It reminded me of the statue I saw in the basement of the Dark Forest while chasing Ella.

In the center of the main hall, a statue of a beautiful woman, exactly like the one I saw then, was placed. It didn’t feel holy at all. Rather than that, it was definitely beautiful but had a gloomy and dark feel. Evan stood in front of it and admired the statue.

“….”

At that moment.

‘What’s that. He’s smiling, right?’

I definitely saw the corners of Evan’s mouth go up a little. Evan walked to the back of the statue. And he carefully examined the heel of the statue, then wiped it with his sleeve.

‘It’s too far.’

I passed through the wall so as not to be caught and went around far, far away, then poked my head out from behind Evan.

Anmin

Letters were engraved on the heel of the statue.
