I stepped back with a slightly sullen expression. Only then did Basileon relax and move his body.

“Don’t tell me you dressing up these days is because of me too, right?”

“…It is because of you. And getting tired of wearing the same clothes every time.”

“Did you pick them out yourself?”

“Just… with a passing servant.”

“It suits you well. You look cool.”

The dark navy uniform wrapped around his broad shoulders, and the epaulettes decorated with gold thread shone softly. Without realizing it, I couldn’t take my eyes off him. As I slowly admired Basileon, the hair covering his right eye caught my attention.

“Why are you staring at me like that?”

“Basileon. About your right eye. Why do you always cover it with your hair?”

It was the moment I asked that question. Basileon’s atmosphere froze instantly. I saw his pupils waver slightly, but he soon looked down at me with a face that had regained its composure.

“Just because. It’s more comfortable.”

He answered as if it was no big deal, but it was in a cold tone. His reaction was completely unexpected, so I ended up flustered. I felt a cold air current different from usual, but I couldn’t figure out the reason. However, I didn’t want to back down for no reason, so I asked once more.

“Your eye… is pretty. I was just wondering why you cover it up.”

I saw his body stiffen momentarily once again.

“…Not at all.”

Basileon let out a quiet sigh.

‘…Should I not have asked?’

I felt self-conscious, sensing that I had made some sort of mistake.

“It’s something you don’t need to know.”

His voice grew lower, and the atmosphere became even colder. Basileon didn’t seem to want to continue this topic anymore.

“The survivors might come, so I’ll get going.”

“….”

As if this situation was uncomfortable for him, Basileon quietly left the place.

‘Is the work in the ducal castle finally coming to an end?’

Just as Lilith had said, everything proceeded smoothly. Because the survivors were no longer hindered by Basileon or me, the evil spirit. Right, it’s definitely a good thing. And yet, I became inexplicably depressed as the days went by. It was because our relationship had become awkward since I asked Basileon about his right eye last time.

“Phew…”

“Tsk. A young fellow sighing like the ground’s going to cave in, honestly.”

Adolf, apparently displeased by my sighing, approached and picked a fight.

“What does being young matter? I’m already dead.”

“You said you were going around looking for your corpse. Why have you been stuck here making such a fuss lately…”

‘If it’s Adolf, he probably knows why Basileon is acting like that.’

Actually, I had wanted to ask him for a few days, but Adolf also seemed quite on edge. So I held back. But I definitely have to ask today.

“Adolf.”

“Yeah, are you leaving now? I guess I won’t have to see you sighing for a while.”

“No, it’s not that. Can I ask you something? About Basileon.”

“…Look at this? You definitely fought with the Young Master, didn’t you?”

‘What a quick-witted old man.’

I feigned ignorance and asked the question.

“We didn’t fight. Actually, last time I asked him about his eye. Because he always seems to cover his right eye.”

“Good heavens. You asked the young master that?”

Adolf reacted as if he couldn’t believe it at all.

“Yeah. He just said I didn’t need to know and left…”

“Consider yourself lucky it ended there, evil spirit. If it were anyone else, their head would have flown off. If it were a regular ghost, they would have been annihilated.”

Adolf clicked his tongue as if it were a horrific thought.

“Why on earth did you bring up that sensitive topic in front of the Young Master?”

“That eye, I’ve seen it a few times and it was pretty and sparkly. I just brought it up because it was a shame he keeps covering it.”

“Tsk. If the Young Master heard that, he would be furious. The Young Master loathes it so much he wants to pluck that right eye out.”

My heart sank at those words.

“What did you say?”

“If you had any sense, you wouldn’t have asked such a question.”

“Of course I didn’t think it would be to that extent…”

Adolf sighed as if frustrated.

“You see, the Young Master. He suffered numerous persecutions in the family because of that one eye.”

“Persecutions? Why would they do that to the person who will become the next family head…”

“The bloodline of the Ravenwood family all have red eyes. To survive in the family, one had to be born with at least that much as a basic requirement.”

“It’s not like you can choose to have that?”

Adolf nodded as if agreeing with my words.

“Right. That’s exactly the problem. It’s just something innate, but the people of this rigid and crazy family wouldn’t even acknowledge that.”

“….”

Come to think of it, I remembered that Basileon had been unable to enter the Hall of Mirrors for a long time.

“Don’t tell me that’s why he hates mirrors?”

“It’s quite impressive that you’ve managed to stay ignorant of it until now.”

Hearing the whole story, I was filled with guilt.

“I… I crossed the line, didn’t I?”

“Yeah. Don’t make a fuss for nothing and just stay still.”

“But this isn’t something I can just brush off. I triggered his trauma.”

Since I, too, possessed such severe trauma.

“Anyway, you did it without knowing, so the Young Master probably won’t think much of it either. He might have regained his peace of mind in those few days.”

“Hmm… You’re saying I shouldn’t go see him first?”

“Yeah. I’m sure he’ll come find you again when he feels at ease.”

“I understand.”

After that, I spent boring days again. Actually, it wasn’t that boring, but not being able to see Basileon felt boring in itself.

“A key…”

Among the four survivors, Havel was the one to find the final clue.

“I found it! The key!”

Mary and Lilith ran over, surprised by the good news.

“Did you finally find it?”

“Good job, Havel.”

The final mission in the ducal castle was already over. Now it was time to head outside.  Everyone rejoiced. Except for Evan. Evan was grinding his teeth alone from afar. He seemed angry that Havel had found the most important ‘key’. An expression that seemed to say, ‘Why that human of all people.’ Even if he remembers everything, the locations of the clues change every game, so it can’t be helped. I was in the middle of observing this scene with my eyes peeking out from the ceiling.

‘Is Evan still in a situation where he’s suspected by everyone?’

I was worried about Evan, who was grinding his teeth alone, detached from the others, even though everyone was rejoicing. So I appeared where the other survivors couldn’t see me and called him.

“Evan.”

Upon discovering me, his face instantly brightened. He approached me with a smile on his face.

“Evien. Long time no see.”

“How are things going?”

“…Havel just found the key.”

Evan quietly pointed at Havel in the distance.

“I see. Now you have to go rescue the other survivors.”

“Yeah… I have to go…”

“Why are you so gloomy? It’s unlike you.”

Evan had dark circles under his eyes, as if he had been struggling mentally.

“Actually, I want to act alone now.”

How could he be fine in a situation where everyone suspects him? Naturally, he would hate it.

“Once you save the other survivors, you don’t have to stick together anymore.”

Once activities started outdoors, it was mostly individual play.

“Right. I’m waiting for that too.”

I saw Havel, Mary, and Lilith from afar. They were preparing to move to the next area.

“Who do you think is the culprit who pushed Lilith?”

“Havel Akron.”

“You said you saw it yourself, right?”

“It was definitely not Mary. I’m certain.”

Evan was confident in his words.

“Because I don’t know the situation. Anyway, your words are the most trustworthy.”

“Thank you, Evien…”

“If it’s true that Havel pushed Lilith, why do you think Mary is lying?”

“Threats are the most likely reason.”

‘That stupid guy blackmailed Mary?’

“I absolutely can’t imagine it. Unless he threatened her with his sheer size…”

Evan glared at Havel as if to kill him.

“Everyone thinks he’s just a stupid glutton.”

‘Well, he’s always been like that…’

Evan spoke through gritted teeth.

“That’s because they don’t know his true nature. I observed him, and that human, his entire atmosphere changes when it’s just the two of us.”

“No way.”
