“So… Team Leader Go Jaepil from the East Sea Guild wants to recruit me?”

“Yeah.”

“And because Kang Jaegyu is the only one who has any connection with the Blank Guild, he had him contact me?”

“Exactly! Damn it, what have you been listening to this whole time?!”

Fuming, Kang Jaegyu finally lost his temper and hurled the cap he was holding onto the floor.

“I call you over and over, and you never answer! Then I come all the way to Seoul to meet you, and this is what I end up with!”

From Kang Jaegyu’s perspective, it really was a bolt from the blue.

Even so, watching him rage didn’t make Jiwoo feel the slightest bit sorry for him.

‘You brought this on yourself.’

Seriously, he should’ve tried being a nicer person once in a while.

If he had, she probably would’ve answered his calls, and he wouldn’t have gotten trapped in a dungeon like this.

She wanted to mock him, but she held herself back.

Or rather, she tried to.

“God, damn it. There’s seriously not one thing about you that’s likable. You even look clueless.”

That lasted right up until Kang Jaegyu started poking her forehead with his index finger.

Normally, she’d have just thought, ‘There goes another barking dog,’ and ignored him.

But something strange happened.

In an instant, it was as though sparks exploded before her eyes, and anger surged through her.

Jiwoo bared her teeth at the pale hand in front of her.

Then—

CHOMP!

“Don’d toud my heab! (Don’t touch my head!)”

“AAAAAAAGH!”

A furious bite to the back of his hand!

It looked like something straight out of a sitcom.

The result, however, was anything but funny.

Jiwoo bit down with every ounce of strength she had.

“Have you lost your mind?! Hey! Hey!! You crazy—!”

Displaying superhuman patience, Kang Jaegyu endured the attack.

Instead, he grabbed a fistful of Jiwoo’s curly hair and yanked her backward.

“Mmph!”

After biting him to her satisfaction, Jiwoo stumbled backward and spat onto the floor.

Only then did she come back to her senses.

‘W-What did I just do?’

It wasn’t like she’d never wanted to teach Kang Jaegyu a lesson.

But to bite him like a dog…

Why did I do that?

Jiwoo stood there blankly, replaying what had just happened.

Meanwhile, Kang Jaegyu clutched the back of his hand and shouted at the top of his lungs.

“Are you seriously insane? Are you possessed or something?!”

“Uh… I-I’m sorry.”

“If you’re sorry, then heal me!”

Jiwoo quickly cast a healing spell on the groaning Kang Jaegyu.

More than guilt, she felt bewildered.

‘It didn’t even feel like myself.’

The anger had flared up so suddenly that she couldn’t control herself.

“It’s not even summer. Did the heat fry your brain? Why the hell are you biting people like some rabid mutt?”

Even while she healed him, Kang Jaegyu continued grumbling and cursing.

At first Jiwoo only apologized.

But eventually she puffed out her cheeks.

‘Serves you right. Maybe don’t smack other people’s heads whenever you feel like it.’

“Serves you right. Maybe don’t smack other people’s heads whenever you feel like it.”

“What?”

“…Huh? Did I just say that out loud?”

What’s wrong with me?

Jiwoo’s eyes widened.

She’d only thought it in her head.

Yet somehow the words had slipped right out.

‘Oh no… With Kang Jaegyu’s personality, he’s going to throw another fit.’

“Oh no… With Kang Jaegyu’s personality, he’s going to throw another fit.”

“What?”

“Eeeek! Again!”

Jiwoo clamped both hands over her mouth in panic.

Contrary to her expectations, Kang Jaegyu didn’t explode.

Instead, he frowned.

“Have you seriously gone crazy?”

“Huh?”

“You suddenly jump someone and bite them, then you’re the one freaking out afterward. Did you eat something weird? Are you sick?”

“Um… Are you… worried about me?”

“Worried? Don’t be ridiculous.”

“Then why…”

“Because I’m about to tell Team Leader Go Jaepil that you’re mentally unstable and he should rethink recruiting you! That’s why!”

Kang Jaegyu barked.

Then, almost immediately, he looked at her expectantly.

“Seriously though. You’re not actually hurt anywhere, right? Especially your head?”

“Unfortunately, I’m perfectly fine.”

“Think carefully. Maybe you hit your head recently or ate something spoiled.”

“Geez, I said none of that’s true! Are you interested in me or something? Why have you been so persistent ever since— Eeek.”

Jiwoo abruptly stopped talking and took a step backward.

She couldn’t believe what had just come out of her mouth.

‘Am I seriously losing my mind?’

Why were all the thoughts inside her head spilling out?

Like a water purifier with no filter, just pouring everything out?

Jiwoo’s eyes trembled.

Just then, a loud shout erupted behind them.

“Have you lost your damn mind, woman?!”

“Yeah, I have! And whose fault is that? Yours!”

“What did I ever do?!”

“What have you ever done for us? You even stole our only daughter’s college tuition and gambled it away!”

“Why are you bringing that up now?!”

A married couple suddenly erupted into a full-blown argument.

And they weren’t the only ones.

“Hey! Why do you keep copying me?”

“When did I ever copy you?”

“Last month you bought the same bag, the same shoes! Even your phone charm—and you copied my profile picture too!”

“What nonsense! You’re just paranoid! Besides, you clearly don’t know this, but your style is ugly as hell. I wouldn’t copy it even if you begged me!”

“What?! Say that again!”

Students who had been getting along moments ago were now grabbing each other by the hair.

“What were you doing last night that you never answered?”

“I told you. I went to bed early.”

“Then why were you online on social media at dawn?”

“That was…”

“So you were drinking all night again?”

“No, it’s not like that…”

“I’m sick of your lies. We’re done!”

Arguments erupted everywhere.

It was as though a broken dam had unleashed all the emotions people had bottled up.

“What the hell? Did everyone take crazy pills together?”

“Could you try speaking a little more politely? Every time you open your mouth it’s just… ugh.”

Jiwoo bit her lip and slowly stepped back.

Just like everyone else, she kept blurting out thoughts she would normally never say aloud.

A suspicion crossed her mind.

She immediately activated a skill.

Her target was the middle-aged woman still shaking her husband by the collar.

“[Holy Eyes!]”

‘The Demon Race’s Curse.’

Those five words made Jiwoo’s eyes shake violently.

The mysterious curse was affecting everyone in the starting area.

She had relaxed because there were no monsters.

‘This place isn’t safe either.’

As her headache worsened, Jiwoo pressed her fingers against her temple.

The only person who seemed completely unaffected was Kang Jaegyu, who stood nearby with his usual crooked posture.

The reason was obvious.

‘He says everything on his mind normally, so even if he’s cursed… nothing changes.’

She didn’t like it, but right now Kang Jaegyu was the only person she could rely on.

“Mr. Kang Jaegyu, we have to evacuate everyone before this gets worse.”

“Why? This is getting interesting.”

“What kind of brain do you have to say something like… No, that’s not the point.”

Shaking her head, Jiwoo continued.

“You said Team Leader Go Jaepil wanted to recruit me, right? If I keep avoiding his calls, you’re the one who’s going to be stuck in the middle.”

“Are you threatening me?”

“Let’s just cooperate peacefully.”

“Tch. How boring.”

He looked dissatisfied, but he decided to go along with her.

That didn’t mean his attitude became any better.

“What are you doing? Go.”

“Huh?”

“I said go. We need to find out if the second floor has a safe area.”

“By myself?”

“If I go too, who’s going to keep these idiots under control?”

Kang Jaegyu jerked his chin toward the arguing crowd.

By now, the verbal fights had escalated into shoving matches.

Someone needed to stop things from getting worse.

Besides, there were still unconscious people—including Onara—who needed someone watching over them.

“Wait a second. Wouldn’t it make more sense if I stayed here? You go upstairs while I—”

“Hey, Do Jiwoo. Aren’t you supposed to be the high-ranking hunter here? Then you should be the one going up. Why should a measly B-rank like me take the dangerous job?”
