Arellin woke up right away.

“Does anything hurt?”

She had been lying down for half a year, so it seemed natural that something would hurt.

“It doesn’t hurt…?”

Arellin tilted her head, then stared closely at empty space.

As if there were something there.

Mehen looked as well, but he couldn’t see anything.

Was she seeing things after waking up?
Side effects, maybe?

Mehen immediately called in the medical staff and had them examine Arellin.

But—

“Huh…? Why is she fine?”

The doctors were flustered.

“This doesn’t make sense.”

Arellin’s condition, which had been steadily getting worse, had improved. Faced with this miracle, all they could do was scratch their heads in confusion.

“I will grant you time to say goodbye.”

Only then did Mehen understand what the Archmage’s words meant.

“Mehen?”

Time to spend together, just for them.

No matter what would happen next, the fact that Arellin was looking up at him again with clear, bright eyes made Mehen’s chest swell with emotion.

From early morning, the Halbern Estate was overflowing with excitement.

“She’s walking!”

“She’s talking!”

“She’s eating!”

“She’s breathing!”

“You idiot, if she wasn’t breathing, she’d be dead!”

Everything was moving—walking, eating thin porridge, talking, smiling, even breathing—and all of it felt miraculous.

The childcare group, who had secretly accepted they might never see this again, were all sniffling and crying.

Arellin, eating her meal, looked confused as she watched them cry while staring at her.

“Mehen.”

“Yes?”

“Do I look pitiful when I eat?”

Mehen raised an eyebrow.

“Who would dare say such nonsense?”

“Then why is everyone crying…?”

For the first time, Mehen’s gaze shifted away from Arellin and toward the others.

Spotting the embarrassing childcare group, he let out a tired sigh and dismissed them shortly.

“Please ignore those foolish people.”

“Mm…”

“You should eat more.”

“O-okay.”

Watching Arellin eat her porridge properly, Mehen felt the ice around his heart slowly begin to melt after six long months.

‘How should I tell her?’

While she was asleep, he had made the decision on his own to accept the Archmage’s treatment. But now that Arellin was awake, a new worry hit him hard.

Would she want to go through such painful treatment?

He had to tell her—but he didn’t know how to begin.

“Mom.”

“Yes?”

“I’m okay.”

Suddenly, Arellin smiled.

It was such a clear, bright smile that it made him wonder when she had learned to smile like that.

He knew she smiled beautifully—but had she always been capable of a smile that softened people’s hearts this much?

Mehen, who remembered more of her fragile and sorrowful smiles, felt unfamiliar with this refreshed, gentle one.

“I’ll get the treatment, and I’ll definitely recover and come back.”

At her brave voice, Mehen’s expression crumbled completely.

He covered his face with both hands and rubbed it roughly. His throat tightened so much that no words came out.

What was he supposed to do with an angel like this?

She was far more precious than he deserved.

The cold, heartless time that had passed felt nothing but regretful.

He should have done better.

“I…”

Forcing out his tightly pressed voice, Mehen looked at Arellin with tear-filled eyes.

“Please… allow me to raise you longer.”

Had he ever felt this small and pathetic before?

Mehen lowered his head weakly—but then small hands suddenly grabbed his cheeks and lifted his face. Arellin leaned forward and bumped her forehead lightly against his.

“Mehen will always be my mom.”

Her voice held no doubt at all—steady and firm.

Mehen choked up as emotions he couldn’t put into words surged inside him.

In the same way, Arellin hugged Mehen tightly, hoping her feelings would reach him even if words couldn’t.

“Dad might be a little dangerous, but mom is only Mehen, okay?”

At her bold words, Mehen let out a small laugh without realizing it.

“Is Valer really that dangerous?”

“Dad keeps wandering outside. He doesn’t show his face, no one knows where he is, and he just makes his only daughter worry.”

Even Mehen had to admit—she wasn’t wrong.

“Well, since I have a real father somewhere else anyway, maybe changing dads wouldn’t be so bad.”

“Right?”

They seriously discussed it like they were plotting something, then burst into quiet laughter together.

How long had it been since they last laughed like this?

Holding back the mix of joy and sadness, Mehen asked,

“Is there anything you want to do before you go?”

With a thinner face than six months ago, Arellin smiled brightly.

“I want to see everyone.”

She said she hadn’t been able to say a proper goodbye.

“I’m going far away now, so… I want to say goodbye.”

Faced with Arellin’s pure wish, Mehen had no choice but to agree.

The first person I met was Chloe. This lovely original female lead came running the moment I sent someone to call for her.

“Arellin—!”

“Hi, Chloe.”

“Are you okay now?”

I just nodded.

There was no need to worry her more than necessary.

The reason I met the heroine first was because there was something I wanted to say to her.

“You’re really kind and a good kid, so always live the way you are.”

Seeing her in person stirred a lot of feelings, but Chloe was precious to me too. Chloe smiled shyly.

Next came Harun and the twins.

I had planned to see Harun first, but—

“Why are you only meeting Harun? We’re friends too!”

“That’s right, that’s unfair!”

“Seriously, these little devils.”

I felt bad for Harun, who was suffering as usual under the twins’ mischief, but at the same time it made me laugh because it was so like them.

They hadn’t changed at all.

It felt strange that they were the same even after half a year had passed. They were all a year older too.

“Arell, Arell, are you really not sick anymore?”

“Don’t get sick again….”

The twins carefully came up and hugged me. Harun hesitated, then joined in too.

“When did you become so clingy?”

“Calling us clingy!”

“Just say we’re affectionate!”

“Mom-mom says affectionate guys are popular.”

“She said affectionate men are loved.”

It seemed the Duchess of Spherom, who had gone to the Spherom territory to recover from raising these little devils, had returned to the capital estate.

“Mom-mom said all the music Arell gave her was really good.”

“She said she wants to hear you play because you’re good.”

“Okay, I’ll play for you someday if I get the chance.”

Since it was the last time, I was generous and made a promise, and the twins lit up.

Ciel especially looked happy—he really did seem to love music.

“You promised, Arell!”

“Yeah.”

“You swore!”

“I didn’t swear.”

“Waaah!”

“Okay, I swear.”

“Yes!”

The twins cheered after squeezing a promise out of me at last.

After finally peeling off the now relatively calmer twins, I looked at Harun, who was usually quiet.

“…?”

When our eyes met, I could feel him tense up.

Chloe and Harun would have looked good together too.

It was a little sad that I couldn’t help Chloe’s crush, and that I wouldn’t be able to see what became of them.

“Thanks for waiting.”

“…!”

When I finally said my belated goodbye from Sagret, Harun’s eyes widened.

Maybe because his expressions were usually similar, seeing him make a different face like this made me strangely proud.

“Take care… of your health.”

“!”

Did Harun just nag me?

It felt surprising and oddly fresh.

Wow, I never thought I’d live to see the day Harun nagged me.

Seeing Harun blush like an overripe tomato after saying just that one line made me want to tease him badly—but I barely held back.

And finally, the last stop.

“It’s been a while since I came to the Imperial Palace.”

The Imperial Palace, to see Pession.

Since I knew he had always come to visit me when I was sick, I really wanted to come myself.

“Lady Arellin, please wait here.”

The garden of the Crown Prince’s palace.

Watching the place where the kids used to run around, and where I used to hide among the bushes, made me smile.

Right. That happened too.

There was a time when I first met Pession here and felt completely flustered.

Lost in memories, I saw the person I was waiting for in the distance.

“Arell—!”

Seeing Pession run toward me with a bright smile, his face lighting up when he saw me, I was about to run toward him too—

Thud.

Suddenly, it felt like my heart dropped, and something inside me went out of alignment.

Huh?

My vision flickered. Something hot surged up all at once, and as I bent over, I coughed up blood.

I still hadn’t… said goodbye.

“Arell?!”

Through my broken vision, I vaguely saw Pession frozen in panic—

Before I could say anything, my sight went completely dark.
