The feelings the Spherom twins held toward Arellin could not be defined with a single word.

A stranger who had boldly stepped into the world shared only between the two of them—born on the same day, at the same time—and then vanished without a trace.

Calling her merely a childhood acquaintance, a fleeting friend from their early years, did not do justice to the impact she had left on them.

“Noel, did you take some medicine and start hallucinating or something?”

Siel couldn’t understand Noel, who was suddenly spouting nonsense about Arellin having appeared out of nowhere.

“Why would Arellin come up all of a sudden here?”

“Because I think I saw Arellin.”

“So when did you see her?”

Noel explained about the person he had run into while passing through the VIP corridor of the auction house, right in the middle of the auction.

“Do you really think that makes sense?”

Siel let out a hollow laugh.

They hadn’t become half-wrecks like Pession, but the twins had gone through their own difficult times as well.

The incident had been what forced the twins—who once feared nothing in the world—to grow up in their own way, and it was also what finally eased the Duke of Spherom’s constant worries about the next generation.

“Then let me ask you this, Siel. Has your ability ever malfunctioned?”

“That was only with Arellin—”

“Exactly. Only Arellin.”

There were plenty of unusual people.

The Duke of Halbern, whose value changed every time you met him.
Young Lord Cheyen, whose number stubbornly displayed only zero.
Chloe, whose number increased each time you encountered her.

People who shattered the assumption that a fixed value never changed.
But none of them showed abnormalities quite like Arellin did.

“…Then maybe someone like Arellin showed up again.”

At Siel’s defensive response, Noel couldn’t hold back his frustration and thumped his chest.

“Siel, do you think I’m an idiot? That I can’t tell whether someone’s Arellin or not?”

“……”

“This won’t do. I’m going to El Sionel.”

“Why there, all of a sudden?”

“Why do you think? If the real Arellin is back, Mehen must know something.”

Siel thought of Mehen—whom he hadn’t crossed paths with even once since the day Arellin disappeared from the twins’ lives, each of them deliberately avoiding her.

“Fine. Do whatever you want.”

“Yeah. I’m going.”

Watching Noel disappear toward the Mage Tower, saying he’d take a gate to get there faster, Siel let out a sigh as his thoughts grew tangled.

‘Arellin…….’

Whenever fake Arellins appeared, the twins were always the first to realize they were impostors.

The reason they hid their disappointment and approached the fakes kindly was entirely calculated.

Rather than exposing them as fakes from the start, it was more entertaining to give them hope—and then snatch it away.

They’d stopped doing that once they realized such behavior only provided more information, leading to even more perfect fakes the next time.

“Boss, where to now?”

“Hah… yeah. The schedule’s a mess. Let’s just go back to the hotel.”

“Yes.”

Gazing out the window, Siel thought,

‘Another impersonator must have shown up.’

That explanation was far more convincing.

Siel half wanted to believe Noel’s words—and half desperately did not.

He didn’t want to be disappointed again.

He didn’t want more exhausting, bitter memories tied to Arellin piling up like this.

‘Why doesn’t Halbern manage this sort of thing properly?’

Swallowing a flicker of irritation, Siel stepped out of the carriage.

Spherom Hotel, Branch No. 1.

Though hotels had now been built in every major location in Albrecht, and the brand was thriving with overseas branches, this first hotel was still Siel’s favorite.

“Shall I show you the list of VIPs currently staying at the hotel?”

“Yeah.”

Out of habit, Siel checked the list—and then froze for a moment.
Mehen’s name was on it, marked as a long-term guest.

‘Mehen is still here?’

Up until now, she’d stayed three days at most—five if it was long—before disappearing quickly. He’d never expected to run into her like this.

‘Then that means in El Sionel right now…….’

Realizing that Noel had gone on a wild goose chase, Siel smiled bitterly.

And then—

“Huh?”

It was only a brief moment, passing each other at a short distance.

But there was no way he could fail to recognize her.

“Boss? Boss, where are you going?!”

In a moment when it felt like the entire world slowed down, Siel unconsciously rushed forward and grabbed a slender wrist.

At last, their gazes met at close range.

Golden eyes—irrefutable proof—trembled faintly before him.

Faced with her puzzled stare, Siel barely managed to open his mouth.

“Arellin?”

****

“……”

As I shoveled ice cream into my mouth, the stare pressing against my cheek grew noticeably sharp.

When I looked up, the culprit who’d bought the ice cream was staring at me without even blinking.

“Want some too?”

“No.”

What is it now?

“Then why are you staring like that?”

“It’s fascinating.”

I found it fascinating too.

I still clearly remembered the small devil twins who used to cause nothing but trouble, yet now they’d grown up into tall, proper, handsome young men.

‘Though the part about being proper is probably just their outer shell.’

Siel had looked like an angel even as a kid, and now, grown up, he still looked like one.

Even knowing his core was pure devil, if he asked me to vouch for him with that face, I’d probably stamp my seal without thinking.

“By any chance, does Spherom also run loan shark businesses?”

“We only run banks?”

“That’s a relief.”

“…?”

Siel tilted his head, then pressed his lips together.

“……So what Noel said was true.”

“Huh?”

At that moment, the tightly shut door burst open, and another one came charging in.

“Arellin—!”

With a booming shout, Noel ran straight at me.

“It’s really Arellin?!”

“Do I look like a fake Arellin to you?”

Maybe he’d run all the way here—Noel was breathing hard. I considered pushing him away, but since it’d been so long, I let him be.

“Arell, Arell…….”

“You still do that even after growing up?”

“I missed you sooo much…….”

Noel whimpered as he hugged me tightly. When we were kids, I hadn’t noticed because our sizes weren’t that different, but now that we were grown, I could barely breathe.

As Noel clung to me and sniffled, Siel—who still looked like he couldn’t believe this was real—finally approached.

“Soft.”

“Warm.”

“She’s alive.”

“She’s breathing.”

These little—seriously.

“Am I dead right now? Is it that shocking that I’m alive?”

“We thought you were dead.”

“We had no idea how much—”

Muttering, Noel suddenly hugged me again.

He’s huge now—why is he acting like a toddler?

“I really, really missed you.”

“Yeah. Me too.”

“Really?”

Both of them looked at me with eyes full of disbelief.

Why don’t they believe me?

“I missed you after Mehen, Pession, and Dad.”

“That’s cold. Wow, yeah, this is really Arellin.”

“?”

“Even as a courtesy, you won’t say we’re the ones you missed most. Yeah, definitely Arellin.”

“??”

I couldn’t tell if they were admiring the authenticity or mocking me.

Judging by their expressions, though, they didn’t seem upset.

“So what happened to you all this time?”

“A lot happened. Just think of it as—I got sick, almost died, then got treated properly and came back.”

“If you were alive, you could’ve contacted us at least once.”

At Siel’s complaint, I smiled faintly.

“I was barely alive back then. I really couldn’t.”

“What do you mean by that?”

“Exactly what it sounds like?”

I could laugh about it now because I’d survived, but it had been treatment dangerous enough that dying at any moment wouldn’t have been strange.

What I’d needed was a body with a rank high enough to withstand my own power.

There were two ways to obtain a higher rank.

Either be born with it—

—or destroy the rank you had and build a new one.

My master’s treatment had been the latter: giving me what I lacked by sharing his own rank.

‘That’s why he didn’t just cut away the rotten parts and regenerate them.’

A supreme-tier spell that regenerated my body with the power of an elixir while letting my master’s rank seep into me as well.

Maybe because of that, I’d become something like his retainer, and even the Demon of Laplace had bugged out.

I really needed to fix that soon too……

My all-purpose status window, please come back.

“But can you back off a bit now? Up to this point I let it slide as a ‘return celebration service,’ but it’s getting annoying.”

“So cold!”

“Yeah. I’ve always been cold.”

“Definitely Arellin.”

Despite their grumbling, the twins wore expressions full of longing.

Unbelievable.

“Yuni too—why is everyone confirming it’s me with nonsense like that?”

“Because you were always irritated, Arellin?”

“That’s because I had a trash body that got me out of breath after ten steps! You think I wouldn’t be irritated?! I guarantee it—if you woke up in a body like that overnight, you’d live like I did too! Sick people can’t have nice personalities.”

“Mm-hmm.”

“You’re not even listening, are you?”

No matter what I said, the twins just nodded like everything was fine.

“Want to vouch for me?”

“Mm-hmm.”

“Want to give me all your assets?”

“Mm-hmm.”

“Are you even hearing what I’m saying right now?”

“Mm-hmm.”

I let out a deep sigh as the twins clung to me despite me telling them to back off, when Siel suddenly asked,

“Arellin, have you met Pession?”
