Dain said Hyeya would soon bring back monsters that lay eggs or hatch eggs so they could try raising them.

The day before yesterday, she said they should taste different eggs first, so she brought many kinds of monster eggs.

There were very large eggs with very hard shells, normal-looking eggs, and eggs with strange colors.

Ye-eun cleaned them carefully and boiled all of them.

Hyeya used tools to check that they were not poisonous, so she said it was safe. But most people still couldn’t easily eat them.

Only Dain, Ye-eun, and a few adults who were not picky ate them.

‘Crocodile eggs were surprisingly delicious.’

Of course, the other eggs also had their own taste, but Dain liked crocodile eggs the most.

The meat was good, the skin was useful, and even the eggs were delicious. Crocodiles were very useful creatures!

They also found edible plants and moved them to grow in their base.

Everyone had become very busy because they wanted to finish everything before winter.

The children were told to eat well, play well, and learn well. But when they helped move things or clean in their free time, they felt proud.

It was also nice that Hyeya made a snack basket, so there were chocolates every day. It was also nice that the medicine room shelves slowly became full. Most of all, everyone smiled more often now.

And it was fun to listen to Hyeya’s stories during dinner.

There were cute peaches with faces, playful fairies, and mermaids with beautiful singing voices…

They learned that not all monsters in gates were scary.

The most exciting story was when Hyeya almost died after being eaten by a dragon.

Even before sleeping, listening to her stories was fun.

Before Hyeya came, everything was quiet and a little unstable.

They were just trying to survive, without much hope, worrying about each day.

Even if today was okay, tomorrow might not be. Even if tomorrow was okay, the next day might not be.

Even though Dain was young, she could still feel that fear in this harsh world.

‘Anyway, noona said she would train us later!’

Hyeya said Dain and Juwon had enough talent to become espers.

Right now, fixing the base was more important. But later, when things were stable, she would teach them how to fight monsters.

Dain was very excited for that day.

Time skip

“Cha Eun-hwi was really smart.”

It had been exactly 37 days since she returned to this ruined world.

After breakfast, I came to Room 202 with the director and looked at the nearly finished plan.

It was a sudden compliment, but the director smiled like he understood.

“Eun-hwi was very good at studying. He read many books. I remember how, even when you skipped classes with Do-kyung and Shin-ra, he kept studying alone. He used to say, ‘I’ll learn well and teach the kids.’”

“…Anyway, he left behind a lot of useful materials.”

That was why I suddenly said Eun-hwi was smart. It was because of the materials he left before leaving the base.

When I talked about future plans last month, the director said Eun-hwi had similar ideas.

So I searched the house, and I really found many things.

He had already made maps of the environment and sketched building layouts.

He also sorted edible and poisonous plants using books from the base library. He even wrote down monster weaknesses carefully.

It was clear he had prepared everything for survival.

‘If nothing had gone wrong, this place would have been much more stable.’

Thanks to his notes, I was able to improve the base in about 30 days.

My bag also helped a lot.

I found out that every day at 8 AM, my bag resets to its original state.

Even if it gets torn or dirty.

That “original state” means the condition when I first entered the “Liar Fairy Forest.”

We made a theory together with the director.

The time flow inside the gate was strange, and the repeated collapsing and resetting of space might have affected this.

‘Even clothes became clean again after time passed.’

The bag reset at one time, and clothes at another. But if I deliberately dirtied them, they still returned to normal the next day.

All items worked the same way.

Even my phone battery would recharge by the next day.

Messages and notes would disappear, and new notifications would pile up again. That was a problem, but also very strange.

The only thing that did NOT reset was my body.

I even tried cutting my hair and making small cuts on my hand. Those did not return to normal.

But it didn’t matter much. The fact that I could gather supplies every day from the bag was very reassuring.

Also, the director was doing much better now.

‘Daily guiding really worked.’

A month ago, his face looked tired and dark. Now he looked much healthier and calmer.

I looked at him for a moment, then spoke.

“Sir, I’ll be out today.”

“…Are you going to the operation room?”

“Yes. Like I said before, I need to find them. But going without information would be crazy. You said they sometimes went to the operation room before they left, right?”

Maybe there was a clue there.

If not, I would have to do something reckless.

There were two reasons I hadn’t gone there yet.

First, the director said there would probably be nothing.

Second, when I got close, I felt a strong danger—like instinct warning me not to enter.

It felt like the pressure I felt in A and B-grade gates.

So I was sure something dangerous was inside.

“I’ve gotten stronger from fighting monsters. I went near it yesterday, and it was fine. So please tell me what’s inside now.”

The director knew I didn’t act recklessly.

So he finally nodded.

“There is a Basilisk.”

“The monster that made your leg like that?”

“Yes.”

“And it came after they left, right?”

The Basilisk was a dangerous monster. Even normal people or retired espers couldn’t easily fight it.

“Did it also break the building in half?”

“No, that was Do-kyung.”

“…I see.”

I also remembered something like insect egg sacs I saw before.

“Those might have been Basilisk eggs.”

“Did you see many?”

“Yes. If they all hatch, it could become a serious problem for the ecosystem.”

The Basilisk can turn anything to stone just by eye contact.

Even if it is calm now, its children will need food when they hatch.

It could become dangerous for the safe base area.

“I’ll burn all the eggs while I’m there. Or maybe bring them back and cook them. Snake eggs are edible, right?”

“…Every day, I think this, Hyeya. You’ve become very… reliable.”

Maybe he was impressed that I always turned everything into food.

I shrugged and smiled.
