The Jelly Alien Will Save You! Chapter 53
When I kept landing two more hits, Mimic Jelly roughly grabbed my ears and shook them.
Hey!
I grabbed its ears as well and shook them back.
Mimic Jelly must have decided it couldn’t win, because it started to run away.
Where do you think you’re going! I clung tightly onto its ears, refusing to let go. I was going to use this opportunity to firmly etch into its mind exactly who the master was.
Drag, drag, drag…
As Mimic Jelly moved while dragging me along, Brother looked terribly conflicted and rippled his tentacles.
“Let go! Let go!”
Mimic Jelly shouted.
In the midst of the commotion, Bora Unnie stepped outside, only to gape at the sight of us.
“Camera, camera…”
Whether she wanted to preserve this moment or not, Bora Unnie’s hands shook as she looked for a camera.
Cha Haeeon and Captain Gong Juwon, who came out belatedly, had expressions of intense interest.
“…”
“…”
Mimic Jelly and I fell silent for a moment as we looked at the spectators.
To maintain my dignity, I finally let go of Mimic Jelly’s ears.
“Hmph! Now do you know who the master is?”
I crossed my arms and looked down at Mimic Jelly.
“~~~~!”
Mimic Jelly stomped its non-existent feet, looking incredibly resentful.
After huffing and puffing for a while, Mimic Jelly’s body suddenly began to swell significantly.
The surface of Mimic Jelly fluctuated. Its form collapsed and reshaped itself repeatedly.
‘W-What is it?’
Startled, I stepped back.
‘…Don’t tell me it’s a rampage?’
Bora Unnie and Cha Haeeon instinctively approached and pulled me back. They had also sensed an unusual omen from Mimic Jelly.
‘It shouldn’t rampage!’
I watched Mimic Jelly anxiously.
A rampaging Mimic Jelly uses all its strength to transform into the strongest entity among those it has ever mimicked.
‘It might become an incredibly strong Calamity!’
Just as I shuddered at the chilling premonition, Mimic Jelly’s form was finalized.
“…!”
Everyone’s eyes widened in surprise upon seeing Mimic Jelly’s change.
The same went for me.
Sssss—
A man with a low breath that echoed like a cave, a tall stature with a well-trained body, and features that looked as if they were finely carved.
My heart sank at the sight of that incredibly familiar face.
We knew this person all too well.
He was none other than Quasar’s Vice Guild Master, Yoo Seongwoo.
“Seongwoo Oppa?”
The name burst out of my mouth first.
His eyes looked hollow, and his parched lips didn’t even flicker.
“Seongwoo…?”
The moment Bora Unnie reached out her hand to approach.
His form blurred.
“…!”
The shoulder line dropped, and the body became thinner.
But once again, it was a familiar face.
“Sihyeon?”
Because she was also a member of Quasar.
Mimic Jelly’s appearance continued to change.
Seongwoo Oppa, Sihyeon Unnie, Jaehee Oppa…
Faces of other Hunters were seen as well as those from Quasar.
“Just what is this…”
Bora Unnie murmured lowly.
Just then, Captain Gong Juwon said with a furrowed brow.
“…These are all individuals listed on the missing persons report.”
“Then you mean they were all alive, and Mimic Jelly finished them off?!”
At my cry, Bora Unnie’s eyes snapped open in shock, and then she glared fiercely at Mimic Jelly.
Sensing she might lunge at Mimic Jelly at any moment, Cha Haeeon blocked the way in front of Bora Unnie with his arm.
Crackle! Spark!
Sparks flew from Unnie’s body.
“Haeeon, move.”
“Hunter Kwon Bora, please calm down,”
Cha Haeeon said stiffly.
However, Bora Unnie stepped forward, agitated.
“Calm down? You want me to calm down when that thing killed all our guild members?!”
At those words, I squeezed my eyes shut.
The death of Quasar.
It felt as though an event I didn’t even want to imagine was unfolding before my eyes.
Just then, Mimic Jelly, startled by the prickly atmosphere, screamed.
“No!”
Mimic Jelly, who had been continuously shifting forms, returned to its original slime appearance with a deflating sound.
It seemed it had stopped the rampage out of fear of Bora Unnie’s momentum.
“I don’t kill! The rule is to scare them and drive them away!”
Mimic Jelly, with tears brimming in its eyes, suddenly swelled its body once more.
The largely swollen body transformed into a yellow hazmat suit.
“This one brought them, and took them away again.”
“…!”
In an instant, goosebumps broke out over my skin.
* * *
We gathered in a circle in Cha Haeeon’s room, just as we had when we brought Bora Unnie home.
Captain Gong Juwon explained about the yellow hazmat suits.
It wasn’t much different from what I had heard last time.
That they were a group attempting to manage the anomalies.
Throughout the story, Bora Unnie kept her head bowed.
After making eye contact with Brother, I asked Captain Gong Juwon.
“Then were all the missing people taken by the yellow hazmat suit side?”
“It’s just my personal opinion… but seeing as it said they were brought and then taken away again, they might be conducting some kind of experiment.”
“It won’t be a small-scale operation.”
At Cha Haeeon’s words, Captain Gong Juwon nodded in response.
“To begin with, they have to be able to bring high-priced equipment that works even in contaminated zones. Obtaining such equipment is difficult in itself.”
Captain Gong Juwon, who had been silent for a moment, raised his gaze and continued.
“If necessary, I can contact my unit to find out more about the yellow hazmat suits.”
However, it was then that Bora Unnie spoke up.
“Are you certain the government isn’t involved?”
“Pardon?”
Unnie rolled her eyes nervously before carefully carrying on with her words.
“You said all your comrades were taken by the yellow hazmat suits. They were likely all part of the special forces. Even so, I can’t help but feel the government’s response is far too lukewarm.”
Captain Gong Juwon said, slightly taking offense.
“That incident is naturally under investigation……!”
“Captain Gong.”
Cha Haeeon stopped Captain Gong Juwon.
Captain Gong Juwon let out a long breath.
“…If you don’t trust the government, then I have no other choice either.”
“….”
Unnie remained lost in thought, merely fidgeting with my hand.
Looking at her expression, it seemed she thought another route for information gathering was needed. Brother appeared to be thinking the same.
I stepped out of the room where silence had descended into a stalemate.
Squeak-squeak-squeak-squeak.
It was because I felt there might be something I could do myself.
I looked for the TV in the warehouse.
It was to check the vending machine that the yellow hazmat suits were reportedly managing.
Pew!
As I injected energy, the screen appeared.
Base #2.
The square in front of Yongsan Station was empty, and the vending machine stood there all alone.
‘Hmm.’
Was it because rumors were circulating that the yellow hazmat suits were managing it? Unlike the area in front of Hanseong Hospital, which was bustling with people, it was utterly desolate.
Is there no harvest today either?
Just as I was about to be disappointed.
Flap, flap.
A very light sound came through the screen.
Something was slowly descending from the edge of the screen.
Huh? What’s that?
I brought my face close to the screen.
‘…A hamster?’
A round body with palm-sized wings, possessing an impossibly cute appearance.
The hamster was cautiously flying toward the vending machine.
Whenever the wind blew, its body tilted slightly, but it quickly regained its balance and found its place again.
The hamster looked around nervously, on edge.
As if it knew this place was dangerous.
Then, arriving in front of the vending machine, it circled once slowly.
Soon, the hamster folded its flapping wings and lightly landed on top of the vending machine.
‘So cute…!’
It looks like a Planetmon.
I couldn’t take my eyes off it.
The hamster wiggled and pulled a tablet out of the bag on its back.
Text was written on the tablet like an electronic display board.
