Hiss— hiss—

Crunch.

The yellow hazmat suit stepped on crushed stone.

Seeing pickaxes used for mining magic stones and luggage strewn about here and there, it seemed everyone had moved in a hurry.

He looked around and stepped inside the church.

Creeeeak—

The interior he entered was silent.

He searched thoroughly, but not a single rat remained.

Hiss— hiss—

There was only one conclusion to be drawn.

They had fled.

It is certain that the Scavengers possess the inheritance.

Stepping out of the church, the yellow hazmat suit scanned the surroundings intently, then suddenly began leaping up toward the church steeple.

As if unaffected by gravity, he sprang up, treading on stone walls and railings with effortless thuds, until he stood balanced atop the cross.

Looking down from the high vantage point, the tail end of the Scavenger horde was visible.

‘Where is the leader?’

The leader, who would be wearing a loud suit, was not visible, likely positioned at the front.

He turned his gaze toward Woo Jaehee, who had leaped up onto the church roof.

“We track them.”

The yellow hazmat suit’s hand pointed in one direction.

“You go left and find the inheritance.”

If Jino was leading from the very front, the side circling around the collapsed building would be a dead end.

The yellow hazmat suit turned his body to the right.

Then, as if flaunting that he was no ordinary human, he began to run at an incredible speed.

* * *

“Dammit, my shoes got filthy!”

Jino, chewing on curses, came to an abrupt halt.

“…Something keeps bothering me.”

It was strange. He felt certain he was missing something.

The yellow hazmat suit who had agreed to the deal immediately….

The two split processions….

He knew this unpleasant sensation well.

It was the feeling of being herded by someone.

Unable to endure the discomfort, Jino raised his arms and snapped his fingers sharply.

“Wait. Stop, everyone stop!”

“Why are you doing this?”

The procession began to halt.

“Sigh…. It looks like I’ve been played.”

What were they after? The magic stone deposit?

Jino rolled his eyes, clutching the marbles he pulled from his pocket. The lingering unease simply wouldn’t dissipate.

It was then.

Something approaching like a bolt of lightning caught the edge of his vision.

“…!”

It was the figure of a yellow hazmat suit.

‘He followed us?’

Without waiting for the ones who had the inheritance?

Something was definitely wrong. Jino did not hesitate.

He threw one marble behind him and one in front.

The yellow hazmat suit barely made it inside the range of the marble thrown forward.

[Activating skill ‘Neutral Zone Declaration’.]

A circle was drawn with the two marbles acting as the endpoints of its diameter.

Jino smiled as the yellow hazmat suit, who had been running at high speed, came to a dead stop.

This area was now declared a Neutral Zone.

Even a being with an overwhelming difference in martial power would be nothing more than an ordinary man inside here.

“What brings you all the way here? Didn’t we reach a good understanding earlier?”

“Earlier?”

Hiss— hiss—

The yellow hazmat suit asked back, as if having no idea what he was talking about.

“Our story should be starting right now, shouldn’t it?”

The voice was different from earlier.

At this, Jino’s face contorted.

“We were played!”

As Jino screamed while ruffling his hair in frustration, the yellow hazmat suit strode toward him.

“Where is the inheritance?”

The yellow hazmat suit was pointing a gun at him.

Jino laughed hollowly at the sight of the gun. Right. Guns weren’t affected by the Neutral Zone….

However.

“Inheritance? You absolute moron! I said we were played!”

“…?”

The yellow hazmat suit faltered.

The reaction was too vivid to be considered a mere excuse.

His face flushed red, Jino huffed and puffed.

“Clean out your ears and listen well! It’s not me! There’s no inheritance in my hands! Think about it! Why would anyone go through all this tedious trouble otherwise? The stakes right now aren’t the inheritance! Those bastards are after something else!”

The moment Woo Jaehee kicked off the ground, concrete shattered.

‘Find the inheritance.’

Following the input command, he moved toward the side where the Scavenger remnants were.

It was just as he was traversing the buildings by running along the outer walls.

A figure holding a gas mask blocked his path.

Both the figure and Jaehee stood horizontally on the outer wall of the building.

Woo Jaehee knew that pale face.

‘Cha Haeeon.’

As he thought of the name, something felt like it was pricking his brain.

But that was only for a moment; his mind became submerged in sticky tar, and no more thoughts surfaced.

An umbrella appeared in Jaehee’s hand.

Cha Haeeon opened his mouth.

“Hunter Woo Jaehee.”

Drip.

Drip.

Red rain began to fall, drop by drop.

Corrosion began to occur on Haeeon’s body. Gray smoke rose from the spots where the raindrops hit.

“As expected, it seems you can’t be completely freed from the mind control.”

Haeeon wore a bitter expression and continued.

“Do you want the inheritance?”

At the word ‘inheritance,’ Jaehee’s body reacted first. His hand twitched.

The light in Haeeon’s eyes was dyed a vivid blue.

His body began to turn black like smoke.

“Then follow me.”

Haeeon began leaping across the buildings, thud, thud.

Jaehee followed closely behind him.

The pursuit continued.

Haeeon traversed the outer walls of the buildings and began to jump from the rooftops down to the first floor.

Jaehee, following right after him, threw his umbrella.

However, the umbrella was deflected before it could even touch Haeeon’s body.

The umbrella returned to Jaehee’s hand like a boomerang.

Clutching the umbrella, Jaehee ran down in pursuit of Haeeon.

Haeeon had already reached the first floor and was heading toward the ruined road.

Thud, thud, thud, thud!

As he ran, Jaehee thrust his umbrella toward him.

It was just at the moment when it seemed Haeeon had suddenly stopped.

Right before the tip of Jaehee’s umbrella could reach Haeeon.

“…!”

Behind the Dumbo octopus hiding among the building debris, a black and dark abyss gate appeared.

A thick, black tentacle lunged out from inside the gate and coiled tightly around Jaehee’s body.

“Ugh!”

At the same time.

Woooooo—

A massive whale descended in a straight line toward this location.

The black tentacle climbed the building, and the whale snatched the tentacle up in its mouth.

Wooooooo—

As the whale soared into the sky, Cha Haeeon, who had already reached the top of a building, landed lightly on the whale’s head.

Then he looked down.

Below, he could see the yellow hazmat suit and Jino confronting each other.

Jino was huffing while explaining something, and the Scavengers were keeping the yellow hazmat suit in check.

Around that time, a few Scavengers began to look up at the sky.

Watching this, Haeeon took a deep breath.

Our location must not be discovered.

He didn’t want to use his power at such short intervals, but the situation left him no choice.

“I’ll follow soon. Go on ahead.”

Saying so, Haeeon leaped lightly down from above the whale.
