Divorce in Bed Chapter 12
Sure enough, the greasy-faced hyenas approached.
“Ho ho, so this is the grandson of Chairman Seong whom we’ve only heard about in rumors.”
“Indeed, he is a beautiful young man. The late Chairman Seong was truly a magnificent person as well.”
“That is true. He donated so much to good causes during his lifetime. Everyone is very interested in how his inheritance will be managed. I wonder what Director Do’s expert opinion might be…”
Dowon tightened his arm around Yeohwi’s waist, greeting the attendees with a perfect, cold smile.
“My husband is still young, so management lessons are the priority. He must finish his graduation first.”
“Ah, he is still studying. Then, which university…?”
“He is currently on a leave of absence from his previous school. We are looking into Manhattan.”
“Ah! New York University. He’ll soon be an alumnus with CEO Choi over there.”
Manhattan?
New York University?
It was a story Yeohwi was hearing for the very first time, but he didn’t panic and instead smiled like the pure, beautiful trophy Dowon had taught him to be. His pink lips parted slightly, elegantly revealing a row of white teeth.
At that moment, whispering voices stuck to Yeohwi’s ears like something sticky.
While some approached wearing masks of politeness, it seemed there were others showing blatant evaluation and contempt from behind.
“Is that the kid? The only bloodline Chairman Seong left behind?”
People holding champagne glasses whispered with their backs turned.
“I heard he lost his parents at a young age and lived while nursing a grandfather with dementia? Tsk tsk, his background was good, but his life is quite tragic.”
“Anyway, the high-flying Director Dowon is finished now. Seeing as the Chairman hand-picked a kid like that to partner him with, it means the successor the Chairman actually has in mind is someone else.”
“CEO Do Jingyu was the favored one from the start. After all, on Korean soil, the image of the eldest son inheriting the household looks best, indeed.”
“Oh, how pitiful. How desperate must it have been for them to get married in secret as if running away, without even holding a wedding…”
Unpleasant gazes swept over Yeohwi’s body. They were eyes that looked not at a person, but as if appraising a broken product that had lost its value. Normally, one would have shrunk back in shame and wanted to run away, but Yeohwi instead pressed his lips to Dowon’s ear and whispered.
“Honey, people keep staring.”
“…”
“I think they’re jealous because we look so good together. Right?”
Dowon replied in a low voice, putting strength into the hand wrapped around Yeohwi’s waist.
“Yeah. Don’t pay them any mind.”
It was around the time the party was in full swing and a few glasses of champagne had gone around.
The heavy doors of the Dynasty Hall, which had been closed, swung open.
The air in the room grew heavy in an instant.
“CEO Do Jingyu has arrived.”
A group that arrived late entered confidently, as if treading on a red carpet. It was Do Jingyu and his family, who were recently considered the power players of the KD Group.
They walked with their chins tucked arrogantly, as if they were the masters of this party.
The crowd parted like the Red Sea.
Leading the way, Do Jingyu scanned the interior while receiving greetings from the flocking people. A moment later, he spotted Yeohwi standing with Dowon; he curled the corner of his mouth, sending a look full of disdain.
And in the next moment, Do Jingyu whispered something to his son, Do Jinsang, who was following behind. Do Jinsang also twitched his lips while looking this way.
“…That’s Do Jinsang.”
Yeohwi whispered softly.
Dowon didn’t respond. He didn’t even give them a glance.
There was no need. It was because Do Jingyu was approaching them. Behind him followed his son, Do Jinsang, with a mocking smirk hanging on his lips and a slouching attitude.
“Look who’s here. Isn’t it our busy nephew?”
Do Jingyu blocked Dowon’s path. It was an attitude of putting on airs and trying to crush Dowon with authority.
Dowon bowed his head slightly, pushing Yeohwi gently behind his back.
“You’ve arrived, Uncle.”
“Congratulations on your marriage. You go and get married like a thief without even a ceremony, and now you’re just dripping with affection.”
Do Jingyu’s gaze swept over Yeohwi, who was hidden behind Dowon.
“It seems your thoughts have changed a bit after bringing a young husband into the house. Right, Won-ah. It’s time to set aside company work for a bit. You should look after your family first. Leave KD to me and take a breath. Jinsang will fill your empty spot well.”
It was a clear provocation. The surrounding ears perked up.
However, Dowon didn’t even blink; he smiled leisurely and shot back.
“There is no need for such consideration. Thanks to my spouse’s internal support, the troublesome overseas branch issues are actually being resolved very well.”
“…What?”
Do Jingyu’s eyebrows flickered. Dowon smiled brightly and drove the wedge in.
“So, Uncle, you should be the one taking care of your health. I heard the prosecution’s investigations are quite grim lately; if you overexert yourself, there will be trouble.”
“You, insolent… No, fine. You’re still the same, putting on a show of bravado. I suppose you want to protect your last bit of pride that way. This elder uncle understands everything.”
Do Jingyu stepped back, acting like a kind and generous family elder. However, the veins in his neck bulged.
Do Jingyu, suppressing his surging anger, signaled to his son, Do Jinsang, who was standing behind him.
“I’ll be going now. An adult shouldn’t interfere with the kids playing. You two haven’t seen each other in a while, so greet each other.”
As Do Jingyu left the spot, Do Jinsang approached as if he had been waiting.
He was wearing a flashy gold vest and a red tie that looked vulgar no matter how expensive they were, and he had several thick gold rings on his fingers. He swirled his glass with that hand.
“Father is too much. Why tell people who already know each other’s faces to greet one another?”
Do Jinsang spoke in a friendly tone, but if one listened closely, it was full of mockery.
It was exactly as predicted—he was one hundred percent looking for a fight.
“If I’m going to do it, I should do it with someone I’m meeting for the first time. Oh, is this side the famous final heir of the Seong family?”
He didn’t even look at Dowon and immediately focused on Yeohwi. He seemed desperate to quickly pick a fight with Dowon’s young husband.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Do Jinsang. I’m the cousin hyung who is closest to Dowon.”
He held out his hand ostentatiously, but instead of taking it, Yeohwi smiled brightly and only bowed his head slightly. The other party didn’t really intend to shake hands anyway.
“Wow, I’ve heard rumors, but as expected, seeing you in person… how should I put it, you’re quite young.”
He looked Yeohwi up and down as if blatantly critiquing him.
“I didn’t know our Won-ah had this kind of taste. Since he acted so noble, I thought he was keeping his chastity because there was no partner who met his standards… but isn’t this just disgusting pedophilia?”
Because of his quite loud voice, the surrounding attention focused in an instant. As if the music had stopped, all eyes turned toward them.
Yeohwi felt Dowon’s arm, which was wrapped around him, tighten.
He stepped forward, pressing Yeohwi even closer to himself as if to protect him. A low, chilling voice directed itself at Do Jinsang.
“Hyung-nim.”
Surprisingly, Dowon was smiling.
Even if his pitch-black eyes were not, at least the corners of his mouth wore a perfect social smile.
“This is the 75th Anniversary Foundation Party. As a member of the KD Group’s owner family, I cannot let a low-class slip of the tongue uttered by Hyung-nim decorate the gossip columns.”
“What?”
Do Jinsang was momentarily speechless, then his face crumpled in displeasure.
“Ha! I didn’t ask you.”
Ignoring Dowon, he turned his gaze back to Yeohwi. Then, he looked Yeohwi over dirtily, as if despising him for being held in Dowon’s arms.
“I’m in the middle of asking our new family member here, so why are you cutting in? Now, answer me.”
Do Jinsang flicked the tip of Yeohwi’s chin with his finger.
“Don’t tell me, are you such a stupid kid that you can’t even say a word in response? Did Dowon teach you only to whimper in bed?”
It was a provocation that crossed the line.
Just as Dowon was about to cut him off coldly, Yeohwi spoke first.
“Um, I’m not sure what you mean. I just married Mister Dowon because I like him.”
“Seong Yeohwi.”
Dowon tried to restrain him, but Yeohwi didn’t back down. He even laughed, his cheeks flushing red as if he were shy. And he looked at Do Jinsang with innocent eyes.
“Mister Dowon is truly capable. He didn’t just act big by relying on his parents; he’s someone who achieved things on his own from a young age. People like that are rare.”
“…What, you brat?”
Do Jinsang’s face crumpled in an instant.
