Divorce in Bed Chapter 11

Author: nicotine

Time flew like an arrow, and finally, the day of the KD Group foundation party—the day they had been waiting for—dawned.

The air felt different from breakfast that morning. A strangely excited feeling. Perhaps it was only Seong Yeohwi who felt that way.

Taking a deep breath, Yeohwi spoke to Dowon, who was drinking from his coffee cup as usual.

“It’s today, Mister Dowon.”

Dowon’s gaze briefly shifted from the tablet where he was checking stock prices to glance at Yeohwi. For a moment, Yeohwi thought he might be ignored, but unexpectedly, a reply came back.

“…Right.”

Yeohwi, who had been eating an avocado-topped cream cheese bagel, lifted his head brightly and looked at Dowon.

Finishing the rest of his coffee, Dowon stood up. Picking up his jacket, he announced to Yeohwi, who was looking up at him like a baby bird:

“6:00 PM. I’ll see you in the lobby. Don’t be late.”

“Oh… yes! Of course.”

Yeohwi jumped up from his chair and chased him to the front door, just as he always did.

“See you later! I’ll be making myself pretty while waiting for you, Mister Dowon! Have a good day at work! Fighting for today as well!”

Yeohwi shouted energetically toward Dowon’s back as he walked away with steady strides without looking back.

“Ah, and please check your texts! I’m only going to send exactly one today, too!”

Dowon stepped out of the entrance composedly. He seemed completely accustomed to the noisy send-offs that followed him now—and to the fact that the once-barren house had lost its silence because of Seong Yeohwi.

As afternoon arrived, the mansion became busy. Directors from top-tier brands and a team of professional stylists visited the residence, and dozens of suits entered the house in an endless stream.

Once the professionals finished setting up in the drawing room, Madam Park called for Yeohwi.

“Young Master, this way…”

For some reason, Madam Park seemed more nervous than Yeohwi himself. Yeohwi gave a broad smile and whispered confidently to her as if telling her not to worry.

“It’s okay. I’ve exercised a lot for today.”

The drawing room. Yeohwi stood before the cold gazes of the experts, still dressed in his usual tracksuit.

The middle-aged director leading the team scrutinized Yeohwi from head to toe over his green-rimmed glasses.

“Director Do ordered the very best.”

The director’s eyes shined like a hawk’s. It was the look of someone who had discovered a raw gem.

“Natural beauty. The inherent beauty that suits the individual best is what conforms to the highest standard of aesthetic. You just need to trust us and leave it to our hands.”

Immediately after, undressing and fitting were repeated.

Dozens of pieces of high-quality fabric passed over his body.

“Oh my goodness…”

When all the preparations were finished, Madam Park, who had been watching him anxiously, let out an exclamation despite herself.

The person standing in front of the mirror was not the Seong Yeohwi who went around with popcorn bits stuck to him and spilled milk.

A white suit that stood out at a glance even from a distance. After finishing the fitting to his exact body measurements, it was blatantly revealed how much more he had grown over the past few months and how much broader his shoulders had become.

Furthermore, his soft light-brown hair, touched by the stylist’s hands, was neatly arranged while maintaining a dandelion-seed-like free-spiritedness, clearly showing his sharp forehead and facial lines that had been hidden until now.

That wasn’t all. His perfectly symmetrical features, his three-dimensional eye area and high bridge of the nose that showed no humiliation from any angle, and the red lips beneath them.

Above all, what was overwhelming were his eyes, which sparkled like the universe.

Because they were not yet refined, they were precarious and rough; moreover, a wild light—an unexplored mystery that remained unknown—shimmered brilliantly in his light-brown pupils.

Inside Seong Yeohwi’s open pupils, it felt as though the Milky Way, a galaxy, was flowing.

“Young Master, you are truly… wonderful…”

“Haha, do I look alright?”

Yeohwi asked as he awkwardly fiddled with his tie.

“Of course! You’re so tall and handsome, oh my.”

“I know, right. I think I’ve grown taller. What if I reach 2 meters at this rate? Should I start playing basketball or volleyball even now?”

At the playful joke, Madam Park finally burst into laughter.

By the time the final checks of his upright posture and gait correction were finished, the long-awaited time had arrived.

Exactly 6:00 PM. Dowon had come down to the first-floor lobby first and was waiting for him.

As always, he was dressed in a flawless black tuxedo. Like a man born wearing a suit from his mother’s womb, the lustrous black three-piece tuxedo suited him perfectly.

Just then, the sound of footsteps was heard from the central staircase.

Dowon casually raised his head.

And, he faltered.

It was because, for a moment, he did not recognize that the figure descending the stairs was Seong Yeohwi.

‘Is that…?’

Seong Yeohwi, standing there in the appearance of an unfamiliar and glamorous man.

It wasn’t the look of a stupid puppy who would crouch at the entrance and sleep while waiting for him to come home.

Nor was it the look of the child who couldn’t do anything and trembled while turning bright red on their first night.

An aura of a male who possessed potential equal to or even greater than his own radiated from him, so much so that one wouldn’t think there was a 12-year age difference.

For the first time, a look of unfamiliarity brushed through Dowon’s eyes. A faint spark flickered in his lightless pupils. It was different from the irritation or annoyance he had felt until now. A strange sense of crisis. Or wariness.

However, that spark died out in an instant and soon disappeared behind a calm, expressionless face.

“…Mister Dowon.”

Yeohwi also spotted Dowon standing in the lobby and stopped in his tracks.

His heart, which had been racing slightly since a while ago, increased its volume and screamed—thump, thump—violently. It felt as if all the colors of the world had vanished and only that man was visible in vivid detail.

White light shattered as it poured over the sleek tuxedo, and the way the man slowly turned and approached him stretched out enchantingly like slow motion.

Even though he was merely approaching, his presence was indescribable. More so than any expensive masterpiece or work of art decorating this lobby. No, even compared to this entire mansion, Dowon was overwhelmingly valuable.

Overwhelmed by an unrealistic feeling, Yeohwi gazed at Dowon’s face.

His black hair was slicked back without a single strand out of place. Although it was a look he saw every day, it seemed exceptionally radiant today. His cold face, his pitch-black eyes. Everything just felt like a dream.

What had he thought when he faced him on the first night? Arranged marriage. A twelve-year age gap. A couple. Husband… He hadn’t been a match for the man who seemed like much more of an adult than himself, but now he felt as though he were floating.

He felt dazed and anxious, yet his heart fluttered so much his cheeks grew hot.

He felt like he would go crazy wanting to hurry up, go to him, and hold onto him.

He wanted to stand proudly by his side and show the whole world that this person was his. No, truth be told, he wanted to show it to Dowon more than anyone else.

Only to him. To that one person.

At twenty years old, it was the beginning of his first love.

And at the time, Seong Yeohwi did not yet know that it would eventually become so terrible.

The two of them got into the car without a single word of conversation.

In the suffocating silence, Yeohwi looked out the window, trying to suppress his heart which felt like it would explode.

Just before arriving at the party venue, Dowon spoke for the first time.

“Don’t bark until I tell you to.”

At those words, a small smile spread across Yeohwi’s lips, which had been stiff with tension. As soon as the car stopped, Yeohwi linked his arm with Dowon’s as if to show off.

Dowon glanced at him as if surprised. To that, Yeohwi winked and whispered.

“Of course. A trophy has to make its owner shine. Woof, woof.”

Dowon almost let out an incredulous scoff, but he quickly managed his expression.

“Pictures are being taken. Smile.”

Instead of unlinking their arms, Dowon, after stepping out of the car, pulled him even closer to his side. Then, he firmly wrapped his arm around Yeohwi’s waist.

As warned, flashes exploded all at once. Amidst the dazzling stage, Yeohwi maintained a relaxed, bright smile.

“Director! Please look this way!”

“I’m from Seyoung Daily. Is a brief interview possible?”

Passing through the requests pouring in from outside the photo line, they entered the party venue. The place was truly a feast of light.

As if flaunting the wealth and power of the KD Group, the entire Dynasty Hall of a domestic five-star hotel had been prepared for this day.

The thousands of crystal chandeliers pouring from the ceiling were so glamorous they were blinding, and the sounds of a soft classical quartet mingled with the laughter of South Korea’s highest-class figures.

Then, all their gazes shifted simultaneously toward the entrance of the hall.

Director Do and his young spouse.

It was the moment the truth behind the rumors, which had been shrouded in mystery and circulating by word of mouth, was revealed to the world.
