“Okay.”

Daihan looked at Sephiel.

“Then let me ask you something. Baby Raccoon. Why did you stay quiet when you knew that woman had a dangerous scroll?”

“Umm— well, it’s not like it was real attack magic or anything. I heard scrolls are dangerous, but I didn’t really know… I was just playing with it and changed a few letters…”

Honestly, I thought maybe she brought it to teach me rune letters!”

Sephiel pretended not to know anything.

“You can read runes too? Are you sure you’re not half-dragon or something?”

“No.”

Sephiel shook her head.

‘I don’t want it to be discovered that I’ve got demon blood in my lineage. That’d be worse.”

She thought to herself, swallowing hard.

“Hmm.”

Daihan looked at Sepjiel for a long time.

“Yeah, I guess that could be the case.”

Daihan, who was so concise about everything, didn’t dig any further.

Even though Sephiel is a brilliant genius, she is still just a child.

To a child, even a bomb can look like a toy.

And even if Sephiel had known everything, she didn’t actually set the bomb off—so Daihan let it go.

Besides, dragons were endlessly generous to those they liked.

When Daihan’s gaze softened again, Sephiel almost giggled.

‘But the truth is, I didn’t turn a blind eye to Miss Miella’s scroll for nothing.’

Now that she was having classes with her again, and getting a little closer to her.

‘She might be in my top 10 enemies list, but strangely, I just couldn’t bring myself to hate her.’

So, if Miella really were a spy, Sephiel planned to try persuading her once.

‘It’s not like I expected her to switch sides or repent or anything.’

But at the very least, she wanted to tell her:

‘You’re being used. If you don’t escape from the Allegro royal family, you’ll end up dying after testing the plague cure on yourself.

And besides, all you’re carrying around are cheap illusion bombs…’

Still, just in case, Sephiel had discreetly changed the scroll’s letters.

‘So subtly that even Miss Miella didn’t notice.’

Sephiel chuckled.

‘But I never expected her to make a bold move and kidnap me using a trap before I could even try to talk to her.’

Although Miella, a brilliant wizard, was also a master of runes, Sephiel was one step ahead of her.

‘Runes are a gift-based language. Those with wizards in their ancestry have an advantage. And I’ve got demons in mine too.’

Anyway, she’d been so focused on Miella that she let her guard down around Loria.

‘I’ve only heard of this cream, so I guess I was late in figuring it out?’

‘Who’d have thought she was slowly rubbing trace amounts of pain-relieving cream into me under the pretense of a massage.’

Anyway, after listening to the whole story, Daihan nodded.

“Yes. I understand the situation. It seems to me that you, Madam Loria, are the culprit. And you’ve been spouting nonsense about my wife.”

Daihan’s sharp eyes turned towards Loria.

She had already turned pale.

“You dared to say such vile things and torment someone else’s child? You won’t get an easy death.”

—Shing

Daihan drew his sword.

‘Whoa… he’s really mad…’

Sephiel flinched.

“Y-Y-Your Grace! Please spare me! I must’ve been out of my mind when I said those things!”

Loria threw herself flat on the ground and begged.

“I was just passing along a rumor. I was being reckless.”

“A local nobleman here, insulting my dead wife? I will punish all those who spread the rumor.”

Daihan said, gritting his teeth.

“You think this child will die like my wife did?”

“……”

The surroundings became cold and everyone avoided Daihan’s eyes.

“That will never happen. This child…”

Daihan let out a ragged breath and tried to calm himself down.

“Not a single hair on this child’s head will be harmed. Do you understand? So you will pay the price for talking nonsense.”

Sephiel involuntarily shuddered.

‘Dragon Fear, it’s scary.’

A chilling pressure radiated from Daihan’s body, and Sephiel felt her breath catch—she couldn’t even think straight.

And all the vassals of the Grand Duke trembled and bowed down.

Partly out of fear of Dragon Fear. But more than that, it was Daihan himself in his rage they feared.

‘The air feels like it’s scratching my skin…’

That was all the pain Sephiel felt.

But Madam Loria, hit with Dragon Fear head-on, let out gasping sobs and began crawling on the floor.

“Forgive me! Please! Oh gods…!”

Like someone trying to escape the most terrifying being in the world.

‘Ah… it’s a total disaster again… No, wait. A dragon disaster!’

Sephiel barely managed to keep her core tight.

‘You know that Dragon Fear is a great remedy for interrogation.’

Then she shouted at Loria:

“Why did you do that?! Huh?! I almost died because of you!”

Sephiel glared at her.

“Ugh. That’s…”

Loria confessed, her whole body trembling.

“I had no ill intentions. I just hated the fact that only a lowly woman named Miella, whose identity I don’t even know, is trusted by you, even though I am a private tutor with the same qualifications!”

“Huh?”

“I just… I just wanted to be your only private tutor!”

Daihan was dumbfounded when he heard Loria’s confession and shook his head.

Sephiel was just as dumbfounded.

“So… you did it out of jealousy?”

‘What kind of nonsense was that?!’

‘So basically, she thought if she framed Miss Miella for trying to poison me and got her kicked out, she’d become my only tutor.’

Sephiel was speechless.

“Why would you even do that? If you really wanted to be someone’s tutor, wouldn’t it make more sense to aim for, like… the young master instead?”

“I think I know why.”

Elton said expressionlessly. The smile that always seemed to be on his face had long since disappeared.

“It’s difficult to approach the young master. Besides, the ducal family has little interest in ruling over human territory. They only involve themselves minimally in the affairs of the domain and rarely interfere.”

Loria flinched as if hit on the nail on the head.

“So, once Miss Baby grows up and marries the young master, there’s a high possibility she’ll act as lord over the territory. That’s the calculation you made, isn’t it?”

Elton continued, seeing that Loria couldn’t say a word.

“Ah, it seems I was right. That’s why you’ve been trying to educate Miss Baby from an early age—to turn her into a puppet, isn’t that it?”

Sephiel couldn’t help but think, ‘Huh? Is that what this is?’

‘I was just planning to be a bride in name only. What a big dream you had, madam. You backed the wrong horse.’

The idea of being the lord of the territory? Loria really had a wild imagination.

‘And from what I’ve heard, she wasn’t even interrogated by Green. Just because she’s a local noble?’

‘Tch, you really can’t trust anyone in this world. The darkest place is right under the lamp.’

“Th-that’s…”

Whether it was from guilt or being found out, Loria looked completely speechless.

“What? You hurt her for something like that?! Do you know how dangerous this cream is to children?”

Miella said in a trembling voice.

“It’s not a dangerous cream!” Loria said.

“It’s just pain-relieving cream. I heard if you apply it moderately, it just looks like they’ve been poisoned. It doesn’t actually kill.”

“Who told you that?”

Daihan asked quietly.

And he continued to pressure Loria with Dragon Fear.

Trembling, Loria got down on her knees and begged.

“I heard it from the doctor who prescribed the cream. He sneaks into our territory and performs cosmetic procedures. If you pay, he’ll prescribe anything. Sure, it’s illegal to practice outside Allegro, but he’s very skilled…”

Then Loria continued talking nonsense.

Apparently, this nameless doctor was popular in the territory, and both Loria and some of her acquaintances, regardless of gender, regularly received procedures from him.

When Loria cautiously brought up the cream—pretending it was for someone else—the doctor allegedly said:

<This cream is perfect for framing someone for poisoning a baby. No matter how much you apply, it’ll never kill them. It just creates the illusion they’ve been poisoned. In the kingdom, it’s a known tactic among elite tutors when they’re fighting for position. It’s used subtly in power struggles.>

Those in the room could not contain their anger when they heard those words.

“Are you crazy?”

“She almost killed the Miss Baby.”

“……”

Sephiel simply stared at Loria. Then, looking down at the woman now groveling on the floor, she asked:

“And, is that true?”

“Huh? What is?”

“Really? Didn’t he say more about the side effects?”

“That’s…..”

Loria said with trembling lips.

Loria, who saw Daihan, closed her eyes tightly and confessed.

“In the worst-case scenario… it… it might cause blindness. But that’s all… If Miss Baby went blind, then she’d need her closest companion even more, so…”

“You liar! There may be side effects that lead to blindness, but there’s a higher chance of death!”

Sephiel shouted, unable to contain her anger. And she wasn’t the only one.

“Ugh, ugh—!”

Loria suddenly grabbed her neck and her body flew backwards.

It was as if a massive invisible hand had picked her up and hurled her across the room.

‘Was that… Uncle Duke?’

Sepihel looked at Daihan with surprised eyes. It was as if he had some kind of power, like telekinesis.

“Take her away. Handle it,” Daihan ordered.

“Yes!”

Lev stepped forward with a face full of anger. Several elven knights followed him.

“Your Highness, please forgive me! I meant no harm! Your Highness!”

Loria cried out in despair, but no one showed her sympathy.

“Elton.”

“Yes.”

Elton approached as Daihan gestured.

“Find that doctor and investigate him.”

“Yes.”

“Everyone who received cosmetic procedures with Loria—take care of them too. It’s a system of collective punishment.”

Then Daihan added:

“Also, clean up the territory. Anyone bad-mouthing the Duchess—Arrest them. Same goes for rumors about the baby raccoon.”

“Yes. It’ll be a good opportunity to show everyone just how precious the Miss Baby is.”
