KISS THE SCUMBAG Chapter 32
“Has Winston ever gone back on his word once he’s decided something? He’s already made his choice, so who could possibly stop him?”
“But, still…”
Lady Catherine couldn’t shake her lingering doubts and let her voice trail off. Turning her gaze away from her daughter, Mrs. Campbell looked around at her assembled children and declared:
“This is the only way we can receive the inheritance. Don’t you realize that Winston sacrificed himself for all of us? Everyone stay quiet—that is, if you can’t be of any help!”
Stung by their mother’s sharp rebuke, everyone was forced to hold their tongues. There was no flaw in her logic. Since Winston’s determination meant they would all receive the inheritance, staying quiet wasn’t such a difficult task.
However, there was another reason why they felt uneasy. It was the fact that the partner happened to be that filthy male prostitute.
“Mother, even so, are you really sure about this?”
“About what?”
Mrs. Campbell asked with a scowl at Gordon’s words. Gordon observed her expression and carefully broached the subject.
“If it goes like this, Yujin—no, the thing he birthed will end up inheriting our family name. Because it will be Winston’s child. Are you okay with that? Can we really let that happen?”
It was the question everyone was feeling anxious about but hadn’t dared to voice. Amidst the uneasy exchange of glances, Mrs. Campbell spoke up.
“Don’t worry. I have already thought about that, too.”
“How?”
Lady Catherine asked in surprise. Mrs. Campbell glanced around to ensure she had everyone’s attention before speaking.
“The easiest way is to wait until we inherit the estate in a year, and then dispose of the child. There are plenty of orphanages in this world.”
The will said nothing about the child’s future. Once born, the child’s duty was fulfilled. Mrs. Campbell continued.
“Wouldn’t all our problems be solved if Winston then remarried Evelyn and had a child?”
Seeing the faces of her children brighten, she gave a faint smile.
“So, there is nothing to worry about. We just need to wait for that thing to get pregnant soon.”
“As expected of you, Mother. You have an alternative for everything.”
As Gordon laughed out loud, his other siblings followed suit. Mrs. Campbell poured tea and brought it to her lips with a satisfied expression.
“But Mother, is there another way besides that?”
Lady Catherine suddenly asked. When Mrs. Campbell stared at her, Lady Catherine looked flustered and gave an ambiguous smile.
“You said it was the ‘easiest’ way, so I wondered if there was something else. It’s always good to consider a Plan B…”
Mrs. Campbell set her teacup down quietly and gave a slight smile. As everyone waited with bated breath, staring only at her lips, she spoke in a calm voice.
And the sunny weather continued until, finally, that day arrived.
From early on, many people were coming and going from the mansion. It was, after all, a wedding for the Campbell family, so it was only natural for it to be bustling with people. Watching the servants passing by countlessly even before the guests arrived, Yujin swallowed hard.
This day has really come.
His palms were sweating so much he nearly wiped them on his trousers several times. Thanks to the coordinator who had packed a handkerchief to ensure no stains would mar his white tuxedo, Yujin narrowly avoided disaster, straightened his chest, tilted his head back, and took a deep breath.
“Daddy, Daddy.”
At the sound calling from below, he lowered his gaze to see his daughter, who looked even prettier than usual today, standing there looking up at him.
“Don’t worry, you look very cool. You look really pretty.”
“You should say handsome.”
As Yujin bent down to pick her up, Angela pouted her lips and said as if she felt wronged.
“But Daddy is pretty. Everyone said so—that they’ve never seen an Omega as pretty as Daddy.”
“Oh… is that so?”
He wasn’t sure if he should be happy or offended by this, but he was certainly flustered. When Angela first started having doubts about her parents, Yujin had taught her about his status along with the story of her birth. So, Angela knew well that there were men in the world who could conceive children, that they were called Omegas, and that she was a child born from one such Omega.
There were rare cases of female Omegas, but she would learn the details when she went to school later. He had thought that much was enough to satisfy the child’s curiosity for now. However, he didn’t know how to respond to comments like that. Yujin broke into a sweat and said awkwardly:
“Thank you.”
“Yeah.”
Seeing Angela nod with a bright smile, Yujin said affectionately:
“But the prettiest thing in the world is Angie.”
“That’s becaaause, Daddy is mine, so I’m preeetty toooo.”
As if boasting, Angela puffed out her chest and drew out her words. Her flushed cheeks and wide-open mouth were so adorable that Yujin couldn’t help but shower her face with kisses.
“Daddy, ticklish! I said it’s ticklish!”
The sound of his daughter’s giggling eased his tension somewhat. Whew. As he exhaled, Angela, who was in his arms, called to him.
“Daddy.”
“Yes?”
As he answered immediately, Angela grabbed his face, pulled him away by force, and said while staring into his eyes:
“Don’t worry too much. You have me.”
He had no defense against a child not even half his age saying such things. Yujin felt his nose sting and hurriedly forced a smile.
“Thank you, Angie.”
He pulled his one and only ally in the world into a tight hug and inhaled. Only after taking two more deep breaths did Yujin finally let the child go. His daughter was wearing a cute dress for the wedding today. He had wanted to ask for her to be the flower girl, but his request had been met only with sneers.
“How amusing—having my own sister and daughter as the flower girl at my wedding.”
Once he heard that, he couldn’t find the courage anymore. The truth was, he felt even more inhibited thinking that people might look at Angela with strange eyes.
“Angie, what did Daddy say?”
When he asked, making eye contact, Angela replied clearly:
“That this is a play forced by the will and not a real wedding, so Angie shouldn’t mind.”
“And what else?”
“That I should just eat delicious food, have fun, and go back to our room with Daddy when the ceremony is over.”
“And?”
The daughter who had been reciting fluently hesitated a little this time.
“I can’t sleep with Daddy today.”
“That’s right.”
Yujin brushed the bangs from her forehead and said:
“Angie is three years old now, so you can sleep by yourself, right? You won’t cry, will you?”
“Yes.”
Angela nodded bravely.
“I can do it. It’s okay, I’m all grown up now.”
The sight of his daughter speaking so confidently made her look so small to Yujin. He would need to teach her to sleep alone someday, but it was still too early. They had never once slept apart. Angela had spoken bravely, but it only made Yujin want to cry more.
I need to train her for this, too.
They had only slept together out of necessity due to their impoverished environment. He should look at this as a good opportunity.
Yujin pulled himself together and stood up. Looking at the clock on the wall, he realized the time was approaching. As he had planned, he picked up Angela and left the waiting room.
“Excuse me, the ceremony is about to start…”
A servant standing outside saw him walking into the hallway and cautioned him carefully. It was evident they did not want him to cause any inconvenience before the big event. Yujin looked at the servant with a deadpan expression—entirely different from how he was with his child—and said:
“I will return on time. I’m just going to get something for my daughter to eat.”
If he wasn’t there, he didn’t know what kind of treatment the child might receive or where. Especially in this mansion, that was even more true. Yujin picked up Angela and headed straight for the kitchen. It was a place he frequented, but things were a bit different today.
“Whoa.”
Angela, held in Yujin’s arms, opened her eyes wide and let out an exclamation. Yujin’s eyes also widened at the sight, as if every servant in the entire house had gathered there.
