Wedding Ending Chapter 36
Lee Yuseong slightly leaned his upper body back. He took a single look at Kang Seunghyun, who was approaching close, and moved his steps leisurely, brushing past Min Jaeyoon’s shoulder.
“Why are you dazed like that?”
Min Jaeyoon could hardly pull himself together. It was only after Kang Seunghyun approached right in front of his eyes that he noticed him. Min Jaeyoon shoved his upper body forcefully.
“How did this happen?”
“What do you mean?”
“You… you…!”
To think that you helped Yuseong. To think that you made it so he could marry Jion-hyung! Is that true?
Min Jaeyoon was confused, his thoughts unorganized. Moreover, if he asked the current Kang Seunghyun, would he even be able to answer properly?
“Did something happen? Why is your complexion pale again?”
Kang Seunghyun reached out his hand, intending to feel Min Jaeyoon’s forehead. Even that, Min Jaeyoon slapped away hard enough to make a sharp smacking sound. Kang Seunghyun looked down at the back of his hand, which was starting to turn red where his ring hit, then raised his head. An suppressed, unusual glint flickered in his eyes.
“You….”
It was the moment Kang Seunghyun opened his mouth. The banquet hall was in disarray. It was an atmosphere contrasting with the heated one from earlier. Secretary Song entered in a hurry. After searching here and there for Min Jaeyoon, he had spotted the two together late and ran over.
“Executive Director Kang.”
“Speak.”
Kang Seunghyun’s voice had no inflection. A sharp edge seeped into his previously impassive eyes. His gaze remained fixed on Min Jaeyoon, who was rejecting him with his entire body.
“I think you need to go quickly. Chairman Kang has arrived. Vice President Min as well.”
When the two returned to the banquet hall, everyone was looking at one place. There stood Kang Jion and Lee Yuseong. The two were standing facing each other as if in a standoff. All through the walk over there, the murmuring voices of people from all directions tickled Min Jaeyoon’s ear.
“Is that person the Cinderella tennis player, right?”
“How on earth did he marry CEO Kang?”
“They’re not on the same level. The level. A recessive Omega….”
“What was CEO Kang Jion lacking to do that?”
Min Jaeyoon bit down on his lower lip. He had never thought like that. Because Kang Jion loves Lee Yuseong. He thought they had gotten married. But looking back, Min Jaeyoon had also gotten married without liking Kang Seunghyun.
Furthermore, there wasn’t just one or two strange things. Kang Jion was the eldest son of Yeonjin Group. He was the front-runner who would lead the domestic economic market in the future. In contrast, Lee Yuseong’s father was a civil servant, and his mother was a dietitian.
The difference in family backgrounds between the two was fundamentally different from the start. That was why Min Jaeyoon was certain that the love between the two must have been that deep.
However, to think that wasn’t it. To think that Kang Seunghyun had helped the two of them!
―Please help me. I beg you. Seunghyun-ah….
On the day of Kang Jion and Lee Yuseong’s wedding, Min Jaeyoon had held Kang Seunghyun’s hand and pleaded. He begged to stop the wedding. However, Kang Seunghyun merely expressed that he himself could not help it. Min Jaeyoon returned home and took to his bed sick, and that was when Kang Seunghyun visited again and said:
―If you marry me, you can just show hyung how precious of a person you are.
It wasn’t that he believed every single word at face value.
As marriage talks with Kang Seunghyun were going back and forth in his family, Min Jaeyoon didn’t even have the energy to think of anyone else. He felt that if it was Kang Seunghyun, he could trust him and walk the same path. If it was him, who always spoke only the truth….
Min Jaeyoon arrived near the two. Lee Yuseong extended his hand forward. Min Jaeyoon stopped his two legs while looking at his fingertips. In his eyes, the surrounding people were not visible. Only Lee Yuseong’s hand moving slowly like slow motion was captured.
Lee Yuseong reached out his hand toward Kang Jion. However, Kang Jion turned away as if he hadn’t seen it. Secretary Ha hurriedly supported Lee Yuseong’s arm and moved his steps. Lee Yuseong’s lips, brushing past his shoulder, were trembling finely. All of that was clearly reflected in the eyes of Min Jaeyoon, who was closest.
“Ah-ah-”
On top of the stage, an employee hosting from the hotel’s side went up and urgently grabbed the microphone.
“Changing the order a bit, we will proceed with a special event right now. A number should be written on each invitation you received, and for the number called, we will take responsibility and host you tonight in our hotel’s Royal Suite.”
People’s eyes slid toward that side. Next to the employee, a transparent plastic box was placed. The man, changing the mood, inserted his hand as if in feigned deep deliberation. He makes a performance of mixing the papers round and round for quite a while. Shortly after, he pulled out a paper, unfolded it, and shook it.
“It’s number 76.”
“Vice President Min, you must go.”
Secretary Song approached Min Jaeyoon’s side and whispered.
“Congratulations. Since it’s too disappointing to end like this… as I please, I will draw two more people.”
At the sound of the employee’s applause, laughter spread as if pouring out.
Min Jaeyoon exchanged glances with his father, President Min, and turned around. As Kang Jion, Lee Yuseong, and Min Jaeyoon boarded the elevator, Kang Seunghyun soon stepped up beside him.
“Jaeyoon-ah.”
Min Jaeyoon said nothing. No, he didn’t want to say anything. Looking down at him like that, the gaze in Kang Seunghyun’s eyes turned fierce.
💍
A room located on the upper floor of the banquet hall.
Outside the wide window, the night view unfolded. Chairman Kang Yaogeon, who was sitting on the sofa, turned his head. White-turned hair, the traces of time were left intact between his brows and around his eyes. He set down the teacup with hot steam rising from it.
“Is that person my grandfather?”
At Kang Seunghyun’s words, Secretary Song quickly whispers in his ear. Min Jaeyoon held back his desire to question him, bowed his waist, and greeted.
“You have arrived.”
“Sit down.”
Min Jaeyoon sat on the long sofa. Kang Seunghyun took a seat beside him. In front of the two sat Kang Jion and Lee Yuseong. The Chief of Staff assisting Chairman Kang, Secretary Ha, and Secretary Song each took their positions behind the person they served.
“You’ve worked hard.”
Chairman Kang’s eyes looking at Kang Seunghyun are warm. However, Kang Seunghyun did not answer. Even so, Chairman Kang is neither surprised nor questions it. Chairman Kang shifted his gaze and said, looking at Lee Yuseong:
“An ungrateful bastard.”
The fingertips of Min Jaeyoon, clutching his knees, flinched. However, Lee Yuseong’s expression was unchanged. It seemed this kind of thing wasn’t the first time.
Chairman Kang was the person who opposed the marriage of the two. Even back when he was active as a tennis player, Chairman Kang pitied him. Because of that, he didn’t spare further support. However, it should have stopped there. For him, there was a line that should not be crossed. Lee Yuseong had crossed that line by marrying Kang Jion.
“The two of them have arrived.”
At the words of the man who stepped up beside the Chief of Staff, Kang Jion rose to his feet. The gaze of Kang Seunghyun, who was sitting opposite, naturally turned backward.
A man with short-cut hair and fiercely raised corners of his eyes, and a woman with long straight hair were moving their steps while looking at Kang Jion. Kang Seunghyun rejected Secretary Song, who was approaching to inform him, by raising his palm open. Even if he didn’t tell him, he could know. It was similar to the appearance he saw in the mirror. Kang Seunghyun resembled his father Kang Chanyoung’s eyes the most.
“All preparations are finished. Shall we bring the food inside, Chairman?”
As the feast was moved to the table and turned into a dining setup, the situation did not improve at all. Min Jaeyoon’s shoulders felt heavy. To make matters worse, the fork and knife he held also felt like a thousand pounds. It felt as if his whole body was being crushed by the heavy air spread inside.
“Nothing special happened, right?”
Kang Chanyoung seemed to have noticed Kang Seunghyun’s subtly changed attitude. Kang Seunghyun opened his mouth without hiding that his mood was ruined.
“If you’re that worried, why don’t you go to the hospital with me?”
Kang Chanyoung faltered. Min Jaeyoon was equally surprised. He wiped his pale face. Chairman Kang wore an unsatisfied expression as he looked at his son, Kang Chanyoung.
“You too, now come back to the company.”
“I won’t do it, Father.”
Kang Chanyoung was a wandering painter. He didn’t settle anywhere and traveled around the world. So it was perhaps natural for Chairman Kang to be displeased with such a son of his.
