Lost in thought, Mirania casually asked, but at his response, she turned her gaze back to him.

“You trying to understand me.”

“…”

“I wish you could understand my thoughts and feelings. If you could, there’d be no reason for us to fight or get angry.”

Grecan placed his free hand over his chest.

“I want to understand your thoughts and feelings too. Then I’d know what you want, what makes you angry, and I could act accordingly.”

“…”

“Is there no magic that can swap bodies?”

Grecan tilted his head in confusion. Mirania, who had been blinking slowly, let out a soft laugh at his question.

“Even if such magic existed, it wouldn’t let you know someone’s thoughts and feelings.”

“True. What a shame.”

Seeing his genuinely disappointed expression, Mirania unconsciously reached out her hand.

Grecan naturally lowered his head for her. As she ruffled his hair, Mirania spoke in a firm voice.

“Anyway, it’s good. Emotions are meant to be felt, not controlled. In groups formed by sentient beings, especially among humans, there are many unpredictable variables, even for me. Over time, your state might change, too.

“I’ll try.

“Good. You’re being so good.”

As Mirania whispered softly, Grecan stared at her intently. Then, he took her hand from his head and gently lowered it.

She cupped his cheek with her hand, their eyes meeting.

Flustered, she tried to pull her hand away, but Grecan didn’t let go. Strangely, she couldn’t look away, and they stood there, gazing into each other’s eyes.

BANG!

The door burst open violently, as if it might shatter.

An intruder?

Mirania pulled her hand from Grecan’s and stood up. Grecan stared at the hand that had held Mirania’s, then stood beside her.

“Shh!

Startled, Minella drew her sword and pointed it toward the entrance. Her sharp eyes flashed.

Truke, despite his large frame, moved swiftly and quietly, pressing himself against the wall.

Thud, thud!

The sound of heavy footsteps grew louder. The tension in the room rose.

Minella and Truke exchanged glances, their lips moving silently.

‘What happened to the guards outside? How did an intruder get this far?’

‘Wait, hold on.’

Minella slowly lowered her sword. Soon, a figure emerged from the darkness.

A handsome face drenched in sweat. Ragged breaths. A thin, lanky body with clothes fluttering.

“Donnie?”

Wigenia, who had been protecting the frightened and restless children, gasped in surprise.

Donnie, his legs giving out, collapsed to the floor and looked up at Wigenia with wide, panicked eyes.

Between uneven breaths, his voice burst out, frantic and desperate.

“P-please, help me, Teacher.”

“What’s going on?”

Minella, who had sheathed her sword, knelt on one knee in front of Donnie.

“Calm down and explain.

“Donaty, Donaty has been…”

Gasping for air, Donnie poured out his words.

“Donaty’s been captured. By the Gangchi gang… They said they’re going to sell him as a slave. Please, you have to help.”

“First, calm down and explain everything step by step. If you just say that, there’s nothing we can do to help.”

Minella spoke bluntly. Donnie nodded, his face regaining some composure.

A short while later, a calmer Donnie sat at the table, his expression dark.

Minella, with her arms crossed, gave Wigenia a meaningful look.

Wigenia nodded and sat in the chair across from Donnie.

“How did Donaty end up captured by Gangchi?”

“The problem started this morning when we were supposed to return with Donaty. We couldn’t retrieve his assets from his hometown…”

Donnie sniffled once, then rubbed his entire face with the back of his hand before continuing.

“Another group had already taken over his property. Donaty was planning to use that money to settle in another region. It’s too hard to make a living here. He said there’s a place where, if you have money, you can live well. He wanted to take me there, but I told him not to worry about me since I couldn’t go anyway. We were hungry, and it was dangerous to stay, so we came back, but the Gangchi gang was waiting for us. They said we ran off without paying the tribute.”

The situation was almost absurdly simple, but for people like Donnie and Donaty, who lived like weeds with no power or resources, it was a cruel reality.

The Gangchi gang had taken Donaty, claiming he owed them unpaid tribute, while Donnie had barely managed to escape using magic to buy himself some time.

“I can’t save Donaty on my own. He’s the only person I can rely on in this world… Please, help him. The only place I could think of coming to was here. The security forces are useless—they only listen to the beastmen from the royal palace.”

As he spoke, Donnie’s emotions seemed to overwhelm him, and he bit his lip hard.

Tears welled up in his eyes, threatening to spill over. While Donnie struggled to compose himself, the remaining teachers exchanged serious looks and began to discuss the situation.

If it had been any other gang, the situation might have been manageable, but the Gangchi gang was the dominant force in this area. They were not an easy opponent.

“When will the professor be back?”

“He said it’ll take some time. We’ll have to handle this on our own.”

Wigenia shook her head as she looked at Minella.

The news that Horus would be delayed darkened Minella’s expression.

“I suspected it, but I didn’t think they’d go as far as human trafficking. If we leave the Gangchi gang alone, it’ll lead to even bigger problems.”

Derrick, with his stern expression, muttered while crossing his arms. Kanit nodded in agreement.

“We’ve been keeping an eye on the Gangchi gang. We’ve seen how much they torment people. This is our chance to uproot them.”

“Of course we should.”

While Derrick and Kanit insisted on taking down the Gangchi gang, Minella remained cautious.

“But we don’t have a clear grasp of the Gangchi gang’s size. Gangchi himself has divine power. Even if he’s not particularly skilled, that power alone makes him a match for four or five strong men. And it’s not just Gangchi—the other beastmen in his gang aren’t pushovers either.”

“I think Derrick and Kanit’s approach isn’t a bad idea.”

Truke, who had been deep in thought, spoke up. Minella frowned.

“Minella, we’ve all been worried about how Gangchi torments people. I always knew something like this would happen.”

“I’m not saying we should leave Gangchi alone. I’m saying we need to be careful.”

“I know, I know. But…”

Truke’s eyes shone with determination.

The usually meek and simple demeanor he showed around Minella was gone, replaced by a rock-solid resolve.

“If the Resistance doesn’t listen to the cries of the people, our justice will lose its meaning.”

“…”

Silence fell over the room. The children, while comforting Donnie, glanced nervously at the teachers, who had grown quiet.

“We have to help Donnie and Donaty.”

It was Wigenia. Her calm voice gently soothed the tension in the room.

“When we first met Donnie, we made a promise. That we’d be the ones to help him when he was in trouble.”

“…I remember that.”

Minella sighed, but the corners of her mouth lifted despite herself. Smiles also appeared on the faces of the others.

“I know the Gangchi gang is connected to the beastmen of the royal palace. If we confront them, the palace will notice us. The Chancellor might even come after us.”

Mirania glanced at Grecan. He tilted his head as if asking why she was looking at him.

“But we have to help them. As much as we can.”

“…”

“So what we need to figure out isn’t whether to act, but how to minimize the damage while helping Donnie. Right?”

“You’re making me feel ashamed of my worries, everyone.”

Minella muttered with a softened expression. Wigenia waved her hand.

“Not at all. If Minella weren’t cautious, the school would be the one to suffer.”

“…Alright.”

Minella lightly tapped the table and swept her sharp gaze over her comrades.

“First, let’s send the children away. We’ll try not to reveal our identities, but we need to be ready to relocate at any time in case things go wrong.”

Kanit led the children out of the school, and Minella turned her attention to Donnie, who was still sitting.

“Donnie, you’ll stay here.”

“Yes.”

Having listened to the teachers’ discussion, Donnie’s face was resolute as he calmed himself.

Next, Minella looked at Mirania and Grecan.

“What about you two?”

“With Professor Horus absent, you’re short on hands, aren’t you? We’ll lend a hand.”

Mirania was curious about the infamous Gangchi gang and interested in how they would solve the problem.

When she readily agreed, Minella’s expression softened.

“I was wondering how to ask you. Thank you.”

Warmth filled the gazes of the others. They seemed reassured by Mirania’s decision to join.

The people remaining in the mansion were Mirania, Grecan, Wigenia, Minella, Truke, Derrick, Kanit, and Donnie, who was a non-combatant—eight in total.

Derrick, who had been keeping an eye on the Gangchi gang, explained the plan.

“We have masks and black clothes for stealth missions. Even if we’re taking risks, it’s best to keep our identities and this place hidden as much as possible. We’ll pair up and assign roles. Kanit and I will handle infiltration.”

“Then Truke and I will deal with Gangchi and the surrounding beastmen. Wigenia, you’ll move important items to a safe location.”

Wigenia nodded. Grecan remained silent, and Mirania spoke up.

“Grecan and I will provide support from the rear.”

Wigenia’s face brightened at the idea.

“Since you’re the only one here who can use long-range magic, that’s the most efficient approach.”

“Okay. Roles are set. Since Donaty’s been captured, we can’t afford to waste time. We’ll infiltrate in a few hours. To do that, pinpointing their location is crucial.”

Derrick spread an old piece of parchment on the table and began sketching lines with a quill.

“I’ve roughly mapped out the city’s key buildings. I think their base is likely in one of these.”

Donnie, looking anxious, opened his mouth to speak.
