Wigenia, flustered, tried to get up, but Grecan splashed the remaining water in his hand onto her face.

Reflexively, Wigenia closed her eyes, and droplets clung to her eyelashes, sparkling in the light.

When she cautiously opened her eyes, her face was full of embarrassment. Grecan gently wiped the moisture across her forehead and cheeks.

“K-Kan?”

“If I don’t do this, you’ll get sick.”

Wigenia’s face turned even redder than before.

The children, who had been fetching water with a bucket, giggled secretly at the sight.

The mischievous kids even started teasing them.

“You two look good together!”

“Can’t you stop fooling around?”

Wigenia scolded them sternly, but the children just covered their mouths and laughed.

Embarrassed by the kids’ suggestive laughter, Wigenia softened her stern expression and glanced at Grecan.

Grecan, uninterested in why they were acting this way, noticed Mirania standing a short distance away.

Unlike before, a soft smile spread across his face.

Mirania looked at Grecan with a strange expression. Suddenly, he bent down and met her gaze.

When their eyes met, a smile spread across Grecan’s round, dark eyes.

“I did well, right?”

“What?”

Caught off guard, Mirania asked in disbelief.

“I’ve become kinder, haven’t I? At least this much.”

“…”

“No?”

Disappointment flickered in his expectant eyes. He seemed to have thought he’d be praised.

Though Mirania felt somewhat flustered, her hand naturally moved to rest on Grecan’s head.

As she gently stroked his hair, Grecan closed his eyes as if he’d been waiting for it.

“Yes. You’ve become kinder.”

Mirania muttered in a subdued voice, her expression clouding like an overcast sky.

This restless, unfamiliar feeling—what exactly was it?

She glanced over Grecan’s shoulder. Wigenia was staring at them, her hands pressed to her cheeks. Her mood grew more troubled.

Not knowing the reason was endlessly frustrating.

[My heart aches, Lady Mirania. Seeing Lord Malandor give his attention to another woman instead of me makes my heart hurt like this. I lose my appetite all day, and even happy things don’t bring me joy.]

[So that’s why you’re sitting here like this.]

[I think I’ve fallen ill.]

[You’re not ill.]

[Then what is it?]

What had she said back then?

[That’s called jealousy.]

“Hey, move aside a bit! I can’t breathe because of your legs!”

“Is that my fault? It’s not my legs—it’s your thick torso.”

“Lose some weight.”

“Says who?”

Everyone’s attention turned to the two bear beast folk bickering as they came down the stairs.

Derrick, who was having breakfast, shook his head as he looked at the creaking staircase.

“If they keep this up, the old staircase will collapse again. It hasn’t even been a week since we repaired it. Then again, with those big guys stomping around, unless the floor is made of steel, it won’t last.”

Gangchi, who had woken up unusually early and was greedily slurping soup at the table, frowned as if the comment was directed at him, even though it wasn’t.

When it came to size, no one could match him.

“Lately, there’s been a lot more of these arguments. Everyone’s on edge, fighting over the smallest things. Oh, is there not enough soup?”

As Wigenia started to get up, Kanit stood up first and brought the pot of soup to the table.

“Thank you. Anyway, we need to come up with a plan—either move or expand our living space.”

Horus, who had arrived yesterday, stared at the bickering bear beastfolk and then fixed his gaze on Gangchi.

Gangchi quietly put down his soup bowl.

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Everyone’s really big, huh.”

At Horus’s sudden remark, Derek chuckled. Gangchi frowned again.

“The biggest house around here is this one, so moving doesn’t make sense. We should expand our living space.”

“Easier said than done. The empty houses nearby are all in bad shape, covered in dust… It’s going to be a lot of work. Oh dear, we already have so much to do. This is a big problem.”

With Gangchi’s group and the rescued humans, beastfolk, and hybrids, the school was now bursting at the seams.

“What on earth did they eat to grow so big…”

“Hey, hey! Isn’t it unfair to bring us here and then give us looks like that?!”

Derrick, who had been grumbling about the increased workload, flinched at Gangchi’s indignant protest and pretended to focus on his food.

“Gangchi, Derrick didn’t mean it like that. He’s just a natural complainer, so don’t take it to heart.”

When Horus shot him a stern look, Derek nodded awkwardly. Gangchi finally relaxed his expression.

Mirania, who had been watching, smiled warmly.

The school was gradually establishing its sense of care and order.

Humans and beast folk living together—it was a situation ripe for conflict, given the deep-seated grievances.

But every time a fight broke out, it was mediated like this, with someone stepping back, and it usually ended peacefully.

‘At this rate, there’s nothing to worry about.’

Mirania felt content. A crisp pickle was placed on her spoon. She turned her head and saw Grecan.

He hadn’t touched his meal and was just watching Mirania eat.

In his hand was a jar of pickles, each the size of a palm—a rare commodity now that vegetables were hard to come by.

Truke’s eyes widened like buttonholes.

“Kan, where did you get that?”

“Does it matter where? He always brings strange stuff like this. How stingy. If you’re going to bring something, share it with everyone, not just with the Witch.”

Minella muttered loud enough for everyone to hear, though it didn’t faze Grecan’s conscience.

He just looked annoyed.

“Go find your own if you want it. Don’t you have the skills?”

“So stingy…”

Minella’s face flushed with frustration at his blunt reply.

The others mumbled under their breath but didn’t protest further.

They were used to Grecan’s habit of catering only to Mirania, and besides, there was plenty of food even without the pickles.

Minella didn’t grumble any further.

As Mirania brought the pickle Grecan had given her to her mouth, she glanced around the table.

In the past, a dozen people would share a thin soup made with a single fish and some roots.

Now, the table was filled with hearty soups and grilled fish as side dishes—a much more abundant spread.

This was thanks to the fishing nets made by humans and the diving skills of the mermaids, which allowed them to catch plenty of fish.

Farming was also going well, so they could bake bread, and the joint training between humans and beast folk was steadily strengthening their forces.

Wigenia pulled out a long strip of cloth from the table.

“This is the headscarf we proposed during the meeting. I embroidered the word ‘Milgram’ beautifully and finished it with the children. From now on, agents going out on missions can wear these headscarves.”

“Good job, Wigenia. It really feels like things are coming together now.”

Everyone looked excited.

The movement to change the world was progressing smoothly, and like sailors enjoying a favorable wind, the people were in high spirits.

“Ah, I’m so hungry. Let me eat too… Aaaah!”

Crack!

A bear beastfolk coming down from the second floor slipped on the stairs and flailed about. His thick leg disappeared through the wooden steps.

Derrick covered his forehead.

“We really do have too many people…”

💫

In the end, they decided to expand their living space. Gangchi’s group and the children would move to the building right next to the school.

It was a necessary measure, as buildings farther away posed safety risks.

Thanks to Gangchi’s gang, who had a tight grip on the local property rental business, securing a building to turn into a shelter was easy.

With plenty of strong hands, moving the belongings wasn’t difficult either.

Everyone except those out on missions pitched in, and the moving preparations were in full swing.

Mirania felt awkward just sitting around, so she tried to carry a chair.

Ouch. Her back wouldn’t straighten.

“Oh, Witch! I’ll move it. Please sit down!”

A bear beast folk from Gangchi’s group stopped her and took the chair from her hands.

Mirania sat back on the sofa, slapping her back awkwardly. Physical labor had never been her strong suit, now or in the past.

“Ah! The corner hit my hip.”

“Sorry. I’ll be more careful.”

Gangchi, carrying a bed over his head, grumbled as he passed by. The beast folk and teachers were moving around, showing consideration for one another.

Watching this, Mirania felt a warm sense of satisfaction. For some reason, her heart fluttered.

‘It will take time, but within a hundred years, the world will return to its former prosperous order.’

Of course, there were still plenty of problems to solve.

First, outside the capital, the situation remained dire.

Currently, the agents of the school, operating under the name Milgram, were only active in the capital.

Compared to the vast area of the two continents, their operational zone was very small.

It would take much more time for everyone to realize the importance of harmony over exclusion.

Second, there were the beast folk leaders.

‘You learn things when you talk to people. Most of the wandering beast folk are those abandoned by their leaders. Yet, they still hold reverence for their leaders. If we don’t resolve the issue of the beast folk leaders who have taken over the imperial palace, achieving harmony won’t be easy.’

There were two ways: either establish new beast folk leaders to render the palace leaders irrelevant or persuade the palace leaders.

“I should ask Grecan about the beast folk leaders in the palace…”

“What do you want to ask me?”

Mirania jumped in surprise and turned her head sharply.
