The royal family’s shame.

“His Majesty acknowledges that his illness is a natural progression of time.” (Prime Minister)

“Really?”

“He has changed a lot. I think it’s because he realized what’s more important than living a long life.”

Those were meaningful words. When I look at the Prime Minister, he just smiles without further explanation.

Mirania pointed out the window without prying.

“Then are we going to the palace?”

“No.”

“It’s not the imperial palace?”

The Prime Minister shook his head again and then suddenly lowered his head.

Even though it must be a heavy head it’s difficult to bow in that position and at that age, he bows deeply as he would fall forward.

A bitter smile hung around the lips of the minister, who raised his head.

“Please forgive my rudeness. Before we carry out His Majesty’s orders, there is someone who wants to meet Mirania, so I am taking you there.”

“The emperor doesn’t know,” he added.

“…such disloyalty.”

Realizing the situation, Mirania was not at all angry.

The primary reason was that there was no greed on the Prime Minister’s face, and I was curious about what he prioritized over the Emperor’s orders.

The carriage stopped before going to the imperial palace.

“Then I’ll go somewhere else for a while.”

The prime minister went down with a dim face, and Mirania leaned on the window frame of the carriage.

“He’s gone, but they’re moving on their own.”

“That’s right. Isn’t this someone who should be treated as comfortably as possible?”

I was talking to myself, but the answer came back. The slightly open carriage door opened completely, and a woman wearing a black veil walked up the stairs and entered the carriage.

Mirania’s nose twitched. It was a scent she smelled somewhere.

“We cannot let the head of the witches, who are said to wield wind and turn the earth with one hand, move around.”

Mirania stared at the veil of the woman sitting in front of her.

“Now it seems that the Prime Minister was holding out not only for the emperor but also the empress.”

A little surprised, the veil shook. Soon the gloved hand lifted the veil.

The Empress smiled, revealing her face, “He’s a distant relative of my family.”

Mirania looked more closely at the woman in front of her at those words. It was not the Prime Minister’s relaxed yet personable smile, but a cold smile.

“I don’t think you two look similar.”

“He’s a grateful person. To the extent that he went to the witch for me and even took your medicine.”

When Mirania raised her eyebrows, the empress, who looked too young to have a dying husband with old age, lowered her gaze.

“So, what do you want from me?”

“…”

“I heard that your relationship with the emperor is no longer so good that you even use potions to boost his stamina. I wonder what you want to say away from the emperor’s eyes.” (Mirania)

“Everything I have is probably not of much value to the great witch. My youthful body, money, and my fake status as an empress. All I can show you is my sincerity. I never thought I would say something so childish and empty-handed. I can’t think of anything to deal with someone who’s not human.”

“…” (Mirania)

“With all my heart, Great Witch.”

“…” (Mirania)

“When you enter the imperial palace, the emperor will ask you to heal someone.”

“You mean the person the emperor cares about?” (Mirania)

“The Prime Minister already told you.”

Mirania stared at her still, at the cold voice of the empress.

The empress lowered her hand. Her black veil fell and completely covered her face.

“I have a favor to ask you.” said the Empress, hiding her expression as if she were wearing a mask.

“…” (Mirania)

“Please don’t treat her.”

Mirania nodded. Even though she couldn’t see her expression due to the veil, she seemed to be able to guess the expression the Empress was making.

“Let her die.”

“…” (Mirania)

“That woman.”

Mirania bent her fingers forcefully. The faces that she had seen at the party flashed through her mind.

Contempt and anger also passed through the Empress’ eyes. So she could also know the target of her request.

‘Are you asking me to kill Alice?’

Mirania said nothing. Was the empress’s hatred and contempt directed at Alice, not at the emperor?

‘I thought it was hatred towards the emperor.’

She couldn’t understand, but she could tell. A person whose heart has been betrayed harbors anger in her heart.

Even if the emperor’s heart softened and the anger the empress had against him became hatred, it was not difficult.

Except for the leader, the concept of companion was unique to humans that are different from those of this race.

‘Even if I don’t understand, I still have to do it.’

Of course, I couldn’t listen to the empress.

Her demands are in perfect conflict with Mirania’s goals.

“Don’t you know the oath?” (Mirania)

“I know about the unbreakable covenant. But my request does not violate the pledge. It doesn’t directly affect the imperial family. If you do me a favor, I’ll do everything I can. That’s what I mean.”

Mirania, who had remained silent for a long time, opened her lips, “Why are you trying to kill that child instead of the emperor?”

“It sounds like you know who I’m talking about.”

“It’s not a matter of how I know it.” (Mirania)

“Yes, that’s not the point.”

“…” (Mirania)

“So does it matter why she has to die?”

The veil fluttered as the empress tilted her head. Mirania’s eyes became dull.

“Yes, it is important to me,” answered Mirania.

The Empress laughed lightly at the insensitive voice.

“Is that because of the great witch’s curiosity?”

Mirania didn’t respond at all. The empress sighed briefly, removing her veil instead of answering.

Mirania was shocked to see her fully exposed face.

The empress’s eyes, which were as cold as the winter wind, were wet.

Her face was wet as if the rain had fallen on it.

The Empress said with eyes full of hatred towards someone, “You know what? Women don’t hate only men who have betrayed them. They also hate the woman who made the man betray them.”

The image of Alice and the Emperor appeared in Mirania’s mind like a blurry afterimage and then disappeared.

Her mind was tangled like a skein of thread.
