The office after Runelk Eins had left.

Killian filled a crystal glass with strong liquor.

Pour.

Along with the sound of the clear brown liquid filling the glass, a man appeared.

“Your Grace.”

It was Dupont Clancher, who had been hiding in a secret space beside the office.

Killian answered his subordinate’s call by slightly raising one eyebrow.

“Why did you give such an order?”

Dupont, who had watched everything that had just happened from behind a device that completely hid his presence, was confused.

During the lunar eclipse, his master always did all sorts of strange things.

Dupont, who had always been in charge of cleaning up after them, was already used to unexpected situations.

There had been a time when Killian had stormed into the imperial palace and held a sword to the neck of the puppet emperor.

It was because someone had tried to pair him with a princess from a certain kingdom.

Once, he had even personally delivered the head of a viscount who had repeatedly interfered with Nox’s business without knowing his place.

After making the viscount’s family, who had gathered for breakfast, open a gift box, Killian had named the second son—the one considered the most useless of his children—as the heir, then walked out of the viscount’s front gate with a satisfied look.

But never once had his strange behavior been directed toward someone within Nox.

“If Runelk Eins is someone who will cause harm to Nox, I will deal with him myself.”

“He is not someone who will cause harm.”

“Then why…”

“The reason?”

Killian, who swallowed the strong liquor as easily as water, answered.

“You heard me. It was to test his usefulness.”

“But he…”

Dupont Clancher’s gaze turned toward the spot where Runelk Eins had collapsed.

“He’ll die. It wasn’t a mission he could possibly succeed at from the beginning.”

“Do you think he doesn’t know that?”

Remembering the eyes that had burned bright blue with anger at his order to bring back Nox’s ‘darkest secret,’ Killian raised one corner of his mouth.

“Clean out the underground prison, Dupont.”

I’m bored.

At those words, as if he were casually tossing away a toy he had grown tired of, Dupont hurriedly lowered his head to hide his expression.

‘Already… over?’

I thought it would last a few more days.

Even though Killian clearly knew that Dupont’s presence had become disturbed with surprise, he merely sank deep into a chair by the window.

His golden eyes, gazing at the view of the Nox estate bathed in unusually bright moonlight, gradually became calm.

Cold water that had been roughly poured over me dripped down my black hair.

After escaping from Killian Nox’s office, I returned to my own room instead of the infirmary and locked the door first.

Then I went into the bathroom, locked that door again, and only after taking off my necklace did I feel like I could finally breathe.

“Killian Nox, you bastard.”

Even after throwing every curse and insult in the world at him, I still wasn’t satisfied.

Looking in the mirror, I scrubbed at the corner of my mouth where the blood he had forced me to drink remained.

Even if I eventually run away from you, I’ll make sure to stick a knife into your side at least once.

I gritted my teeth and swore to myself, but soon a frustrated sigh escaped me.

“Haa, damn it.”

What should I do?

“Now, no matter where you are, I can feel you. Even if you are across the sea on the Western Continent. As long as you are alive, you cannot escape from me.”

A dragon’s kin.

I had never dreamed that Killian Nox’s blood had such an effect.

I didn’t have any ability like him that could see through an opponent’s lies, but I knew.

He was telling the truth.

The moment his blood, which had given off a strange golden glow beneath the moonlight, passed down my throat, it had already healed every wound on my body.

So it wouldn’t be strange if it had some unheard-of tracking function like that.

“The effects are ridiculously good, though.”

Looking at the smooth back of my neck in the mirror, without even a mark left behind, I cursed again.

Even the lingering effects of the Varga poison had disappeared as if they had been washed away.

The fact that my body was filled with vivid energy made me feel even worse.

Splash!

I splashed cold water onto the innocent mirror to vent my anger, but nothing changed.

Through the streams of water running down it, my face only looked more distorted.

It was the price of letting my guard down.

The price of believing I was safe after infiltrating Nox.

Because of that mistake, Killian Nox had put a leash around my neck.

“No, it’s a noose.”

He intends to put a noose around my neck and slowly tighten it until I suffocate to death.

“Five days until the Day of Earth. Find Nox’s darkest secret within that time.”

He was ordering a low-ranking member of the field team, who hadn’t even received proper training, to find out ‘Nox’s darkest secret.’

It was an absurd order.

It was a mission that assumed failure from the beginning.

And yet, he said he would kill me if I failed.

It was no different from a death sentence.

“Phew.”

Wickers or whatever, I suppressed the urge to run straight out of the Nox estate right now with a deep sigh.

The red eyes reflected in the mirror were glowing bright red.

I slowly raised my hand and scratched at my pale neck.

Instead of the invisible leash, only red nail marks remained.

“I can’t die like this.”

If there was a way to turn someone into a dragon’s kin, then there must surely be a way to break that bond as well.

While carrying out the missions that bastard Killian Nox gave me, I had to find a way to escape his tracking.

After that, I’d calmly make my escape right under his nose.

Of course, it would be even better if I could put a hole in his side before then.

“Nox’s darkest secret.”

First, I had to extend the five days of life I had left.
